Chapter 56: She’s Simply a Superhuman

***

Night fell, and the city’s neon lights flowed past the car windows like a brilliant dream. The black Maybach drove smoothly along the winding mountain road, the interior filled with a faint scent of perfume and the temperature of the air conditioning.

Nan Zha sat beside Bai Ning with a somewhat serious expression, her fingertips lightly tapping the edge of the car window, her face showing a thoughtful look.

Everything had gone very smoothly. Bai Ning hadn’t been injured, and their relationship had even made significant progress. She had also reached a cooperation agreement with the Jiang family. Tonight should have been a night of danger safely passed.

But for some reason, she now felt an uncomfortable sensation in her heart, and as the vehicle continued driving, that feeling became more obvious.

Thinking about what happened tonight, her mind conjured up Nan Ziyue’s venomous and crazed eyes before she left. She had a feeling that Nan Ziyue would cause her big trouble.

But she wasn’t too afraid. Even if Nan Ziyue didn’t come looking for her, she would eventually settle accounts with Nan Ziyue over tonight’s events.

Rubbing her temples, she forcibly suppressed the uneasiness in her heart.

“What’s wrong? Why do you look so troubled?”

The concerned words pulled Nan Zha out of her thoughts. Looking at Bai Ning’s worried face, Nan Zha shook her head and said:

“Nothing, just thinking about how to deal with Nan Ziyue.”

After hearing Nan Ziyue’s name, Bai Ning’s expression also didn’t look good.

“I hope she doesn’t get caught by me, or she’ll definitely get what’s coming to her.”

Bai Ning said through gritted teeth, recalling tonight’s humiliating experience.

Although the drug Nan Ziyue used tonight didn’t cause any particularly bad consequences, one thing was one thing, Bai Ning would definitely settle this score with her.

Nan Zha rested one hand on the window sill and gently brushed away a strand of fallen hair with the other, saying thoughtfully: “I’ll handle it.”

Just as she finished speaking and opened her mouth as if to say something more, her expression suddenly became grave. In the area illuminated by the headlights ahead, the thick fog suddenly became heavy.

The driver also noticed this and gradually slowed down. Mountain areas were prone to fog at night, and driving slowly could avoid some dangers.

Looking at the environment outside, the uneasy feeling reached its peak. Nan Zha’s nerves instantly tensed, one hand reaching toward Bai Ning, her eyes fixed intently on the outside of the car.

Not only her, Bai Ning also had this feeling, her face heavy with concern.

“Nan Zha?” Noticing Nan Zha’s abnormality, she sat up slightly, but had just looked toward the car window.

The next second—

A heavy truck suddenly charged out from the opposite lane without warning, its blinding high beams exploding like daylight. Nan Zha’s pupils contracted sharply.

“—Hold on tight!”

The driver also looked terrified, jerking the steering wheel hard, while Nan Zha placed one hand across Bai Ning’s front, pressing her firmly into the seat. Before Bai Ning’s cry of alarm could escape, the world spun in a deafening crash.

The explosive roar of twisting metal tore through eardrums, severe pain accompanied by brief tinnitus. Glass fragments flew like rain, cutting her cheek, warm blood droplets sliding down.

Her vision went black, but she still protected Bai Ning desperately, her arm going numb from the massive impact. The car body rolled several times, and her head struck the door heavily.

Bai Ning’s terrified and worried expression was the last thing she saw before losing consciousness.

……………

Darkness squeezed in from all sides like thick asphalt, lung alveoli collapsing, oxygen turning into millions of ice needles flowing through blood vessels.

Heavy suffocation instantly came, broken scenes flashing before her eyes, flames reaching the sky, Nan Zha covered in blood collapsed in front of her.

“No!”

With a cry of alarm, she instantly woke up on the bed, gasping for fresh air, eyes wide open, a trace of panic in her gaze as she constantly looked around.

“Huff~ Huff~”

Smelling the slightly pungent scent of disinfectant and seeing the bright hospital room, Bai Ning felt her wildly beating heart finally gradually calm down.

She wiped the cold sweat from her forehead and collapsed back onto the bed as if exhausted.

Her eyes showed a trace of fatigue. After relaxing, she felt pain all over her body.

She wasn’t missing any limbs, just felt somewhat sore, similar to the aching sensation after exercise.

After relaxing, she suddenly remembered Nan Zha. Looking around, she didn’t see her figure. Nan Zha had protected her during the impact.

Although Bai Ning didn’t know the extent of the impact, based on her own physical sensation, she only remembered the world spinning before remembering nothing else, so the impact must have been severe.

She was the female lead, so she definitely wouldn’t be seriously hurt, but Nan Zha was uncertain. Worry instantly filled her heart as she murmured softly:

“Nan, Nan Zha?”

She struggled to get up, but her body seemed still very weak. She had just forced herself up through the soreness when she hadn’t even had time to get out of bed.

Just like suddenly standing up after crouching for a long time, her vision suddenly went black, accompanied by tinnitus, and Bai Ning directly fell downward.

Closing her eyes, she prepared to wait for pain to strike, but what she felt wasn’t the cold floor and severe pain, but rather a warm body and familiar fragrance.

“Your body hasn’t recovered yet. Why are you in such a hurry to get up?”

The familiar voice made Bai Ning suddenly open her eyes, looking at the person in front of her.

Wearing a white coat, leaning against a chair, with porcelain-white skin, striking golden hair, a high nose bridge, and neck lines that gave off the sharp feeling of a Northern European girl.

Jiang Xiyue!?

It was Jiang Xiyue who caught Bai Ning, her face showing a completely different seriousness and solemnity from what she had seen at the banquet. The stern words made Bai Ning instinctively shrink back.

But the next second, she anxiously asked the Jiang Xiyue in front of her:

“Where, where is Nan Zha?”

After asking, she stared nervously at Jiang Xiyue, afraid of hearing bad news.

Fortunately, Jiang Xiyue just smiled at her.

“She’s fine. The impact point wasn’t on her side. She just has a mild concussion. Her physical condition is very good, she’s barely injured at all. She’s outside making phone calls right now.”

She’s simply a superhuman.

After hearing that Nan Zha was okay, Bai Ning sighed in relief, her worried heart finally settling as she slowly lay back down.

It seemed that not only was the female lead hard to kill, but even the villainess was equally hard to kill.

Looking at the relaxed Bai Ning, Jiang Xiyue was filled with interest and confusion.

“As for you, you were on the side that took the impact, yet you only suffered minor external injuries. You’re really lucky.”

Jiang Xiyue was the first person to arrive at the scene, so she naturally knew how severe the impact was. One side was almost completely crushed inward.

After all, a hundred-ton truck wasn’t joking around. If it weren’t for Nan Zha’s legally modified car with strong crash resistance, it might have been directly run over like a speed bump.
