Chapter 43: Not Happening!

***

Bai Ning picked up the fruit juice and held it in her hand, shaking it around, but she didn’t drink it for quite a while.

Nan Ziyue, who was secretly observing from not far away, was getting anxious. Why was Bai Ning holding the juice but not drinking it?

Bai Ning seemed to be playing with her like a monkey, picking up the glass and putting it down, picking it up and putting it down again. Nan Ziyue was getting so frustrated she was about to explode.

Was Bai Ning really not doing this on purpose?! But there was no way she could know that she had spiked this glass of juice.

As someone who holds grudges, Nan Ziyue definitely wouldn’t let things slide after Bai Ning had embarrassed her earlier. At the banquet, she didn’t dare do anything else, nor did she dare confront Bai Ning directly.

Setting aside the fact that the Bai family and Nan family were roughly equal in power, the key issue was that when Bai Ning said she’d fight, she really meant it.

A month ago, she had gone to Nan Zha’s company to cause trouble for her as usual. Originally, she just planned to make some snide remarks to disgust Nan Zha a bit.

But Bai Ning appeared out of nowhere, and when she heard someone insulting Nan Zha, her face immediately darkened. She launched into action with zero hesitation, delivering a punch straight to her stomach, then before she could react, followed up with a combo of punches and slaps.

That complete combo attack left Nan Ziyue completely stunned. She had to recover for nearly a month before the swelling on her face went down, and even now she still felt phantom pain on her face.

It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about revenge against Bai Ning. Over the past month, she had her people do many things, including staking out at school to ambush Bai Ning, and getting the school bullies to go after Bai Ning.

But all of this failed due to inexplicable reasons. The stakeout failed because Bai Ning’s class schedule changed, forcing them to stand in 30+ degree heat for an entire afternoon.

After the stakeout failed and she got a bit sunburned, she chose to work from the inside. Since she couldn’t get into the school as an outsider, she would just have the bullies who were already at school do the work.

She just needed to give them some money and use the Nan family’s influence to pressure them. Most bullies would obediently comply, this method had never failed Nan Ziyue before.

But this time she suffered a crushing defeat. That person called Li Yue actually dared to refuse her?!

Even when she brought up the Nan family, Li Yue only looked troubled, gritted her teeth, and still refused her. This was completely unexpected.

Every subsequent attempt would fail due to inexplicable circumstances and reasons.

So when she saw Bai Ning pick up the spiked fruit juice, Nan Ziyue was extremely excited. This was the closest she had come to success.

Sure enough, Bai Ning looked around and still didn’t see any sign of Jiang Xiyue. Feeling bored, she took a sip of the fruit wine.

Nan Ziyue, who was observing from the side, almost jumped up in excitement. That was spiked with strong stuff, she had finally succeeded once!

After a short while, Bai Ning seemed to get drunk, her face starting to flush red, and her whole body began to feel feverish.

“Does fruit wine have this much kick? Am I really this lightweight?”

Rubbing her somewhat aching head, Bai Ning picked up the fruit wine in her hand and looked at it.

Although she knew her alcohol tolerance was poor, she shouldn’t be knocked out by just a few degrees of alcohol, and this was barely anything.

But she couldn’t think of any other reason, so she could only blame it on being too tired these past few days.

A female waitress standing nearby seemed to notice Bai Ning’s abnormal condition and walked over.

“Miss, you seem to be drunk. Would you like me to help you to a guest room upstairs to rest?”

“Yes, thank you.”

“It’s my duty.”

Bai Ning nodded. Her head was dizzy, and she really did want to rest for a while. She didn’t like banquets anyway, so going upstairs fit her wishes. She could just send Nan Zha a message later telling her which guest room she was in.

The waitress led her upstairs. Since banquets always had some drunk guests, the entire second floor was provided for those guests to rest after drinking too much.

The waitress carefully helped Bai Ning to the guest room and thoughtfully settled her by the bed.

Bai Ning felt her body getting hot and kept fanning herself with her small hands.

“Thank you, you can go out now. I want to rest.”

She waved her hand, signaling the waitress to leave first.

“Alright, please rest. I’ll come wake you when the banquet ends.”

“Mm.”

The waitress opened the door and walked out. She looked around left and right, then walked downstairs while opening her phone to send a message.

[Everything went smoothly, ready for the next step]

[Received, coming right away]

After receiving the message, Nan Ziyue’s already mean face showed an excited smile. After so many attempts, Bai Ning had finally fallen into her trap.

Her plan was simple: drug Bai Ning to make her look bad, then go record it, and release this footage of Bai Ning to ruin her reputation.

Although the plan was old-fashioned, it was effective. Even if people felt something was off, as long as this video existed, Bai Ning’s reputation would definitely be damaged.

As long as Bai Ning’s reputation was damaged, her goal would be achieved.

Originally, she had planned to send someone else to do this, but after consideration, she chose to do it herself.

Previous attempts with hired help always went wrong, so this time she would do it personally. She didn’t believe there could still be problems.

With a slight smile, Nan Ziyue excitedly stood up ready to go, but just as she stood up, a familiar-looking waitress approached her, seemingly with some bruises on her face.

“Miss, Miss Nan Ziyue, the head of the Jiang family wants to see you.”

Nan Ziyue naturally recognized this as the waitress she had bribed, but due to the dim lighting and the waitress keeping her head down, she didn’t notice the bruises. After hearing her words, she felt puzzled and surprised.

Why would the head of the Jiang family want to see her? Was it about what happened earlier? Or was he planning to cooperate with the Nan family?

But regardless of which it was, as long as she could meet the head of the Jiang family, it would be a victory for her. Because of what happened earlier, at first glance she would definitely appear to be the victim. When the time came, she just needed to slander Nan Zha a bit, and the matter between the Jiang family and Nan Zha would definitely fall through.

As for Bai Ning, she couldn’t run away now, and comparatively, the Jiang family matter was more important.

Thinking of this, Nan Ziyue smiled. Tonight was truly her lucky night.

“Let’s go, lead the way.”

“Yes, please follow me.”

The waitress led Nan Ziyue all the way to a guest room on the second floor. Although Nan Ziyue was somewhat puzzled, she didn’t suspect anything.

Perhaps it was here to avoid prying eyes, since he was going to compensate her after all. She would definitely need to act pitiful when she went in.

With a face full of grievance, she pushed open the door. Unlike what she expected, the room was pitch black inside, and she could only vaguely see someone sitting in a chair by the bed.

“Bang!”

The sound of the door closing immediately rang out, startling the puzzled Nan Ziyue and causing an ominous feeling to rise in her heart.

“Hmm?”

The suddenly bright lights made Nan Ziyue squint uncomfortably.

Using this light, she could see the person on the bed, and the grievance on her face instantly turned to terror.

Because the person on the bed wasn’t the head of the Jiang family as she had imagined, but rather…

“Nan Zha?!”
