Chapter 25: What’s My Level, What’s Her Status?

***

“Hehe, doesn’t Sister Nan still have a lot of company business to handle? This is just a small matter for me, I can handle it alone. I think career is more important, right?”

The smile on her face was somewhat stiff. Bai Ning felt she could still struggle a bit more.

Nan Zha had a smile on her face as she stared at Bai Ning. For some reason, every time she saw Bai Ning’s flustered appearance, she would feel extremely happy.

“Today’s business has been handled pretty much, and I haven’t eaten yet. Let’s go up and have a meal first.”

When it came to eating, Bai Ning immediately broke out in cold sweat.

A villainess smiling while inviting the delicate female lead to eat, this looked wrong no matter how you looked at it.

Moreover, Bai Ning still vividly remembered what happened last time. Last time, she was lucky to be a drug resistance king, otherwise she would have been done for.

If she got another performance like that this time, who knew what would happen.

She was just about to refuse, but seeing Nan Zha staring straight at her with an expression that said “you can’t refuse me,” Bai Ning forcibly swallowed back her words of refusal.

“Okay, alright.”

Bai Ning decided that during the meal, she wouldn’t drink anything at all. Even if the food hadn’t passed through Nan Zha’s hands, she wouldn’t drink it. Even when eating dishes, she would follow Nan Zha’s lead, whatever Nan Zha ate, she would eat.

Besides, there was still the system’s alerts. As long as Nan Zha had any strange emotions, she would know.

She didn’t believe that she could still be drugged under these circumstances. If that happened, she would admit her bad luck and let Nan Zha deal with her as she pleased.

Although the restaurant they chose wasn’t the same as last time, it was very close by, the face-to-face kind. Bai Ning suspected that Nan Zha was doing this on purpose.

She wouldn’t look at Nan Zha’s expression to guess her thoughts anymore. The more beautiful a woman was, the more deceptive she could be.

Unexpectedly, Nan Zha didn’t seem to plan on doing anything strange. Throughout the entire meal, the two of them were just eating. Although Bai Ning sometimes felt her scalp tingle from being stared at by Nan Zha’s gaze, nothing else happened, which made Bai Ning breathe a sigh of relief.

It seemed Nan Zha was really hungry.

Since Nan Zha didn’t plan on doing anything, she could let loose and eat to her heart’s content. She would eat, eat, eat, no matter what happened, eating was the most important thing.

She would get revenge on Nan Zha by eating her out of house and home.

Thinking of this, even the braised pork in her bowl seemed much more fragrant.

Although she was a bit afraid to talk to Nan Zha, there was still one thing she wasn’t quite clear about that she needed to ask. While eating the food in her bowl, Bai Ning tentatively asked:

“What exactly is the weekend banquet about?”

Hearing this, Nan Zha first looked at her with surprise, seemingly finding it strange that Bai Ning didn’t know.

“You don’t know?”

“You know I don’t like banquets. I attend so few of them, I never bothered to ask around.”

Bai Ning really didn’t know. At first, she thought it might be some charity gala or something, so she specifically asked the system about it. But the system told her that this banquet wasn’t mentioned in the original story.

This immediately raised her guard. Now she could only use the original plot as reference, since she had already stirred things up into a mess. Her intuition told her that this banquet was not simple.

“It’s the Jiang family’s banquet. The Jiang family’s new head of household has taken power and is apparently expanding the market. They’re holding a dinner party in Yun City first.”

Sure enough, after hearing Nan Zha’s words, Bai Ning felt terrible.

The Jiang family?

Mentioning the Jiang family made her think of Jiang Xiyue, and thinking of Jiang Xiyue made her feel uncomfortable all over.

Although she already had a rough idea in her heart, she still wanted to confirm it.

“The Jiang family? The one from Magic City?”

“Yes.”

“What’s the name of the Jiang family’s new head of household?”

“Jiang Xiyue.”

When Nan Zha replied, Bai Ning’s anxious heart finally settled.

Jiang Xiyue becoming the head of the Jiang family ahead of schedule was completely beyond Bai Ning’s expectations. In the original story, at this time period, Jiang Xiyue’s mental state didn’t seem very good, she was still in that dark state.

Moreover, in the original story, after Jiang Xiyue took power, didn’t she become a medical expert and basically not manage the Jiang family? Why was she suddenly holding banquets now?

Although Bai Ning felt somewhat ominous in her heart, she wasn’t particularly panicked.

Her relationship with Jiang Xiyue was basically non-existent, at most they were gaming buddies, and they didn’t even play games that frequently. The most they ever talked was when she comforted Jiang Xiyue a few times during her daily emo posts on NetEase Cloud Music and played some abstract games with her.

As the head of a major family, how could Jiang Xiyue possibly remember a small fry like her? Even if she walked right up to Jiang Xiyue now, Jiang Xiyue might not even recognize her.

Thinking of this, Bai Ning’s originally somewhat bad mood also improved.

Nan Zha sat beside her, quietly watching Bai Ning. Seeing Bai Ning go through four or five different expressions in a second, she wanted to laugh. Bai Ning could never hide her emotions, they were always displayed on her face, yet she always thought she was hiding them so well.

Although she found this side of Bai Ning very cute, she was also a bit curious about why Bai Ning would suddenly pay attention to the banquet and be so interested in the Jiang family.

“Do you know the Jiang family’s new head of household?”

While picking up a piece of green vegetable, she asked in a seemingly casual manner.

“How, how is that possible? What’s my level, what’s her status? Am I worthy?”

Bai Ning looked incredulous, pointing at herself with her small hand, seemingly finding it unbelievable that Nan Zha would ask such a question.

Jiang Corporation was a famous large corporation nationwide. The Bai family only had some reputation in Yun City and couldn’t compare at all, let alone a small fry like her from the Bai family who was just freeloading and waiting to die. How could she possibly know the Jiang family’s new head of household?

Although she did indeed know Jiang Xiyue, the other party might not necessarily know her. Even if she did know her, she wouldn’t tell Nan Zha about it.

“I’m just curious. I’ve often seen Jiang Corporation on my phone before, but I never thought they would suddenly come to Yun City.”

Bai Ning explained her reason for asking earlier. Nan Zha didn’t continue questioning and just nodded.

She was just asking casually anyway. If Bai Ning really said she knew Jiang Xiyue, she would just take it as a joke.

After all, the Jiang family’s new head of household was no pushover. Although young, she was even more formidable than the previous head.

Nan Zha had been thinking for several days but couldn’t figure out why Jiang Xiyue would come to Yun City. Although Yun City had a large market, it was still an inland city, thousands of kilometers away from Magic City. Instead of continuing to cultivate the large market near headquarters that they had already figured out, they were running to a new market, this seemed very strange no matter how you looked at it.

Moreover, her intuition told her that Jiang Xiyue’s primary purpose for coming here wasn’t to develop the market, but had another objective. However, she couldn’t figure out what could attract Jiang Xiyue.

Nan Zha looked at Bai Ning, who was still eating and drinking heartily. Her temples, which had been aching a bit, now felt much better.

Never mind. Whatever was happening had nothing to do with her and wouldn’t affect her surroundings. As long as she and Bai Ning lived their lives well together, that was more important than anything else.
