I Was Supposed to Be the Villainess, Now You're Telling Me I'm the Female Lead? - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: White Ice Cream
***
“Xiao Xue, Youmeng, what would you like to drink? I’ll go buy some.”
Bai Ning stood up, asking Ning Xue and Su Youmeng beside her with a normal expression.
“Just juice is fine.”
Ning Xue seemed somewhat dazed, but after hearing Bai Ning’s words, she still spoke softly to Bai Ning.
“I want cola!”
Su Youmeng, who was in the middle of ordering, raised her hand and said with a grin.
“Okay.”
Bai Ning responded and walked outside. There was cola available in the store, so she didn’t need to go far. Orange juice would require looking outside, but it didn’t take long either. After all, food stores are generally clustered together, so Bai Ning returned quickly.
She held two cups of orange juice, one cup of cola, and three straws in her hands.
“Here you go.”
Placing the drinks on the table, Bai Ning sat back down in her chair.
Taking the drink Bai Ning handed her, Ning Xue said thanks.
The scene suddenly fell silent. Su Youmeng had already finished ordering, while Bai Ning, pretending nothing was wrong, picked up her phone and started scrolling.
Ning Xue picked up her drink and took a sip, feeling the ice-cold orange juice as her thoughts began to wander.
She realized something seemed off about herself now. Whenever she was with Bai Ning, her thoughts would become strange, and she couldn’t help but let her mind wander.
Looking at the glimpse of snow-white skin that Bai Ning inadvertently revealed while eating with her head down, Ning Xue covered her nose. Though she felt it wasn’t right, her eyes still kept glancing over to the side.
It seemed her nightly massages had been effective after all.
She remembered they used to be only |··| this small.
But now they were a full (·Y·) this big.
There was no comparison at all.
But for her, this was another kind of appeal, size didn’t matter.
After all, only children make choices; as a mature adult, she naturally wanted it all.
Besides, her preferences weren’t focused on that area anyway…
Her gaze gradually moved downward. Since it was summer, Bai Ning was wearing sandals, so Ning Xue could see clearly.
Round toes, snow-white skin, the arch forming a perfect curve, it looked absolutely appetizing.
Although she had already tasted plenty during the nights, who would ever think it was too much? At least for Ning Xue, she wanted to try it right now.
And previously, it was all done while Bai Ning was unconscious. Not once had she done it while Bai Ning was awake. She was suddenly curious, perhaps the ticklish Bai Ning would keep struggling.
But Ning Xue was just thinking about it. After all, there was nothing she could do now; she’d have to wait until tonight.
“What are you looking at? Did you drop some food?”
“Ah!”
She had been admiringly lost in thought, but suddenly a pretty face appeared in front of her, startling Ning Xue so much that she jumped.
“There’s nothing there. What were you looking at? Such a big reaction.”
Startled by Ning Xue’s sudden cry, Bai Ning patted her chest and asked Ning Xue with a strange expression.
How strange, how strange.
For some reason, Bai Ning had just felt a familiar gaze staring at her, making her scalp tingle and her toes curl involuntarily.
Looking around, she only saw Ning Xue in a daze, looking down at the floor.
Bai Ning felt she really had some PTSD now, these past few days, Nan Zha had made her nerves constantly tense.
Ning Xue must be mentally distracted because of Li Yue’s bullying today, but Bai Ning couldn’t ask directly.
“Are you okay today? I feel like something’s off about you, Xiao Xue.”
“Ah, no, nothing’s wrong. I’m just a bit hot.”
Her delicate face was somewhat flushed, and Ning Xue’s eyes were a bit evasive.
Seeing Ning Xue’s red face, she did look a bit overheated. Thinking that Ning Xue didn’t seem to handle spicy food well, and the orange juice in front of her was already finished.
Bai Ning pushed her own orange juice in front of Ning Xue.
“I still have some orange juice left here. You drink it, I’ll go buy more later.”
“Ah, okay.”
Looking at the orange juice pushed in front of her, Ning Xue kept her head slightly lowered, but her gaze kept inadvertently looking at the straw on the bottle.
Her throat moved slightly as she swallowed, took a deep breath, and with a normal expression, picked up the orange juice and took a sip.
“Well then, if there’s anything wrong, just tell me. Don’t worry about being a bother, we’re good friends, aren’t we?”
Friends?
Hearing this, her heart, which had been somewhat excited just moments ago, felt like cold water had been poured on it, instantly cooling down.
What she wanted wasn’t just friendship.
Seeing Ning Xue’s normal expression, Bai Ning’s wariness completely relaxed. She had done this intentionally, she wanted to see Ning Xue’s reaction. If Ning Xue really had a problem, her mood would definitely be off right now, and the system would notify her.
[Ning Xue reluctant, upset, feedback value +122]
Perfect!
Bai Ning gave a mental cheer. This was the first time she felt happy after hearing the system notification, though Ning Xue’s mood didn’t seem very good, which also concerned her.
While it was worth celebrating that she’d ruled out the option of Ning Xue liking her, she also felt bad that her friend was unhappy.
In a couple of days, she’d invite Ning Xue over to play at home, sleep together, and help counsel Ning Xue.
After making this decision, Bai Ning felt more relaxed than ever before.
It was precisely because the system had notified her that Bai Ning was certain Ning Xue had no strange thoughts about her. She must have been too sensitive before.
The system was really useful in this regard, it could clearly sense others’ emotions and general thoughts about her.
“Holy crap!”
Just as Bai Ning was about to comfort Ning Xue, Su Youmeng, who was eating beside them, suddenly exclaimed, startling Bai Ning.
“What’s wrong with you now? Making such a fuss.”
“The deadline is coming up, and I just remembered I haven’t started drawing my manuscript…”
Su Youmeng’s expression looked somewhat collapsed. She had come here happily to eat, but halfway through the meal, a flash of inspiration in her brain suddenly reminded her of this matter.
She had originally planned to draw yesterday, two days of drawing should have been enough to submit it.
But she’d gotten addicted to gaming these past two days and only just remembered this now.
“That’s really bad.”
Bai Ning looked at Su Youmeng’s expression of having no will to live and laughed somewhat unkindly.
The fact that Su Youmeng was a doujin artist had surprised Bai Ning greatly when she first found out, not because of the profession itself, but mainly because this little rascal always drew content featuring small characters with older partners, and the content was quite bizarre, truly refreshing Bai Ning’s understanding.
Looking at Su Youmeng’s pained expression, Bai Ning couldn’t help but smile slightly.
This feeling was like when she was in high school, playing games too much before the holidays ended, thinking she had finished her homework, then on the last night before school started, opening the class group chat only to discover she had forgotten to buy a whole set of test papers, that feeling of despair.
