Chapter 54: The Pitch-Black Dragon
In the Great Magic Empire, as the morning glow spread over the imperial capital…
The guards patrolling the city looked up at the sudden darkness in the sky.
“Hey, what’s with that huge black cloud?”
“Cloud… is it?”
“A dragon… it’s a dragon, but why…”
In the sky fluttered a dragon of pitch-black hue, larger than any cloud.
Even for beings of the magical realm, it was only natural to feel weak-kneed in the presence of such overwhelming power.
Meanwhile, Arus, who had just woken up, felt an immense pressure of magic and opened his window to check the sky.
“What… is that tremendous dragon… hey, Shadow, report.”
“Right away. It appears to be an Ancient Dragon. Dragons have appeared in this land only a few hundred years ago… such occurrences are rare.”
“Any damages?”
“So far, none. It seems to be just flying… but it seems to be heading this way.”
Upon receiving the report from the Shadow, Arus quickly changed his clothes and went outside the castle.
“Hey, is it planning to land?”
“What about that dragon, Your Highness?”
Rushing over, a startled Lorna stood beside Arus, raising her voice.
“I don’t know. What is going on here…”
Arus looked up as the dragon descended from high above.
Arus deployed all available defensive magic around the castle and its surroundings as he watched the dragon.
A few seconds later…
BOOOOOM!!!
With a resounding quake, the dragon landed right before Arus’s eyes.
“What do you intend, dragon…”
“Ho… So you’re the Apostle of the Creator God… Saved me the trouble of searching.”
Arus was frozen in surprise at the dragon’s words.
“You’re still young… but this aura… a reincarnated being, perhaps?”
However, the dragon didn’t cease speaking.
“How did you know?”
“How long do you think I’ve been alive? It’s easy to tell after all this time.”
“Are you here to eliminate me?”
To my suspicion of being an envoy of the evil god, the dragon chuckled.
“Hahaha… why would I eliminate you? There’s no reason for that.”
“Then why are you here?”
“I’ve come to see you. And also, to see him…”
“Him?”
Not me, but the dragon grinned menacingly and looked behind me.
And there, my father appeared.
“It’s been a while, Silva… Are you well?”
“Long time no see… Master. What brings you here this time?”
“Must I have a reason to come here? You’ve grown quite prominent… my disciple.”
The immense magical power emanating from the dragon, standing next to Lorna, who boasts one of the highest powers in the empire, causes her to tremble.
“Weren’t you supposed to enjoy your retirement in the mountains?”
“The situation has changed. I’m here to borrow your son for a bit!?”
“Why…?”
Even the usually composed Demon King Silva, who was quietly listening, is now radiating explosive magic.
Lorna has already fainted.
The nearby soldiers, too, have all fainted, leaving only the dragon, the Demon King, and barely conscious Arus with their wits about them.
“Don’t get so worked up, Silver. I’m not here to snatch anything away. Just thought I’d train the kid a bit.”
“Master… you mean Arus? The one you said you wouldn’t take away?”
“Apparently, that kid is the favorite of the Creator God… piqued my interest a bit. Besides, a disciple’s son is practically a disciple, right?”
“Nothing’s really changed, huh… Master.”
As the released magical energy subsides, light pours out from the dragon, gradually shrinking until…
Before Arus’s eyes, the dragon transforms into a dapper figure in a dark suit with slicked-back black hair.
“This is… the transformation magic of high-level dragons…”
As Arus mutters, it’s known that high-level dragons can wield magic to transform into human form. However, it’s mostly spoken of in texts, and few have actually witnessed it.
Dragons seldom descend into human settlements.
“So, Father, who is this person… no, this dragon?”
“Baldello, the Dragon Lord. He’s my mentor in combat and magic, and the former king of the Dragon Lord Kingdom.”
“Seems like you revert to your old way of speaking in front of kids, Silva.”
We’ve relocated to the inner chambers of the castle, seated in the reception room.
It’s just the three of us.
But the Dragon Lord Kingdom…
A country founded by an Ancient Dragon, believed to have existed since ancient times, even among high-level dragons.
I always thought it was just a fairy tale.
“So, uh… I’m going to the Dragon Lord Kingdom with this Baldello guy?”
“Sorry… my mentor never goes back on his word.”
“Of course. No need for further explanation.”
“Um… what about the academy?”
“It’ll have to wait for a while.”
“Going there won’t teach you much, Arus. Besides, you’re too exceptional. Who at the academy could possibly teach you?”
And so, my academy life is put on hold once again.
