Chapter 50: Zen, the Blue Oni
Meanwhile, on Emilio’s side, the battle had already begun.
The enemy’s commander, a blonde demon likely presumed to be female based on her appearance with a yellow oni mask, wielded a staff to assist her magic and unleashed powerful magical attacks one after another. However, none of her magic attacks managed to hit any of Emilio’s soldiers, as they were all nullified by Emilio’s defensive magic.
“It seems we’re dealing with quite a skilled magic user… but she still lacks both skill and experience.”
Emilio remarked confidently on the battlefield, unlike the Emilio who usually felt intimidated by Arus. Without using any magical aids, Emilio continuously defended against the enemy’s magical attacks with multiple defensive spells and, at the same time, unleashed her own offensive magic.
Emilio Astra was a young individual who had achieved great success within the Magic Kingdom’s army. Known for her tremendous magical prowess and strategic acumen, she had surpassed her peers and seniors to climb the ranks swiftly. Her moniker was the “Bombardment King,” feared by both friend and foe alike for her ability to unleash high-powered magic spells successively without incantations.
For Emilio, a magical battle like this was not much of a challenge.
“Astra-sama… most of the enemy soldiers have been obliterated, leaving only their commander and those around them.”
A subordinate reported.
“I see… have our allies withdraw. It’s regrettable not to even know their names, but those who oppose us must face the consequences… Besides, our magical reserves are running low. It’s time to settle this here.”
Emilio commanded.
With a gesture towards the sky, Emilio caused a surge of magical energy to sweep through the surrounding area. Despite the enemy’s frantic attempts to erect defensive magic barriers, Emilio merely smirked at their efforts. Then, after a few moments, a massive object resembling a meteor appeared in the sky.
“Farewell to you, unknown enemy soldiers. Stardust Rain!!!”
Emilio declared as she unleashed her devastating spell.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
One by one, the somewhat small-sized meteorites, but with monstrous sizes when it comes to individuals, rained down, shattering the enemy’s magical barriers and causing them to explode into smithereens.
By the time the magic subsided, there was no longer any trace of people left.
“Astra-sama… That was a bit excessive.”
Remarked the vice-captain.
“…Indeed, it seems I may have gone too far.”
Emilio responded with a wry smile.
“Please teach me that magic you just used.”
Arus suddenly appeared and muttered.
“W-Wait, Your Highness! When did you…?”
“I just arrived. Since the enemies over there have been obliterated, it’s time to report that and confirm things here.”
Arus stated.
“We’ve also wiped out the enemies on our side.”
Emilio reported.
“It appears so. Next, we plan to strike their base. But you’ve been casting magic continuously, are you ready to move?”
Arus inquired.
“I have almost no magical reserves left.”
Emilio replied.
“I see… Then wait here for now. Your vigilance would be appreciated. We’ll take down the base ourselves.”
Arus instructed.
“Got it. And later, teach me that spell.”
Arus said before disappearing from the scene.
“They truly are remarkable individuals, aren’t they?”
“Yes… Indeed, our country’s future seems secure.”
“It appears so.”
The two seasoned warriors gazed at the sky for a moment, smiling.

Meanwhile, at the abandoned castle serving as the Revolutionary Army’s base, another officer, Zen, stood by in attire reminiscent of a hakama, with a sword at his waist.
One of his subordinates, who had been sent out for reconnaissance, returned with a report.
“I see… Beldor and Sutea have been defeated. As expected of the Imperial Army. Despite my repeated warnings that we should have abstained from this endeavor… Well, we’ve boarded this ship. Let us meet our end here.”
Zen remarked.
Shortly afterward, the abandoned castle was reduced to rubble by a storm of high-level magical attacks.
Accompanied by his subordinates, Zen marched towards the enemy for the final battle.
As he approached the group casting attack magic, the magicians ceased their assault and began to retreat.
Then, a young man dressed in agile yet luxurious attire, accompanied by a boy who seemed to be of a similar age, emerged from the rear.
“I am Zen!!! The last remaining officer of the Revolutionary Army and entrusted with this base!”
Zen declared loudly, to which the boy observing from a distance grimaced slightly.
“So, you’re the base commander, Zen. In other words, there isn’t a true leader of the Revolutionary Army here… Just as we suspected, it’s a decoy. Well, that’s fine… We’ve also left Gazef and Lloyd over there…”
The boy muttered, indicating that he had already discerned our true intentions.
Rather than being surprised by this revelation, Zen found himself breaking into a cold sweat at the sight of the boy before him, whose understanding surpassed even that of a seasoned warrior like himself.
“My apologies for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Arus Silva Belzebute, Crown Prince of the Great Demon Kingdom.”
The boy announced.
Upon hearing the boy’s introduction, Zen nodded in acknowledgment.
“No wonder… such a tremendous presence.”
“At the very end, let us express our gratitude to the gods for setting up such a stage.”
Having abandoned his country and crossed over to the Demon Kingdom, wandering aimlessly through perilous lands, Zen found himself involved in this reckless plan and encountered the ultimate death ground.
Truly, it must be fate.
“Your Highness!! If it’s possible… please, at least listen to the story of the leaders of the Revolutionary Army… before the end.”
Zen expressed his concern, something that had been on his mind until the very end.
For Loki and Lorna… and for the world… it was nothing more than a mere blight.
“Ah, I shall handle it accordingly.”
The boy replied before vanishing.
Literally disappearing from that spot, and in the next moment… Zen found himself looking up at his lower half standing without his upper body.
Ah, we truly have challenged an extraordinary opponent.
That realization struck him once again.
He didn’t even feel the sensation of being struck.
There was no way to react to something like that.
The boy looked down at him.
Then, he muttered softly.
“In this case, can it be healed?”
It was a strange thing to say… Zen gazed at it as his last memory.
Large wings, tinged with gold, sprouted from the boy’s back.
How divine they appeared.
Was it not that the gods bestowed this death ground upon me, but rather, did the gods themselves come to kill me?
“Well then… it’s time for the experiment…”
As the boy muttered, a warm breeze rushed forth, and with its force, Zen closed his eyes.
And then, despite thinking he would never open his eyes again, he found himself opening them once more.
Looking around, he found his lower half intact.
Not only that, but he was uninjured, and he felt better than usual.
What… what is happening here?
“Have I been resurrected?”
“Strictly speaking, I healed you just before you died.”
“Are you… a god?”
“No… well, it’s not something I desired, but for now, I’m acting as a messenger of the gods.”
“…Messenger…”
Zen had been searching for a death ground.
And he had certainly died… only to be revived.
What should he seek to live for from now on?
“Zen… I appreciate your help with the experiment. But if you have nowhere else to go, would you like to join me in a grand battle for the fate of the world?”
The boy grinned boldly, a face Zen would never forget.
His whole body trembled with joy.
To join in a grand battle for the fate of the world, as the apostle handling god-like deeds… Could Zen truly participate in that?
“I am… a member of the Revolutionary Army…”
“Such trivial matters don’t matter. Become my subordinate, Zen.”
“Heh… hahaha!! To think being a member of the Revolutionary Army is a trivial matter… You truly are an extraordinary individual. Yes!! I gladly become your subordinate… I entrust you with my life.”
And thus, following in the footsteps of Beldor, Arus also made Zen his subordinate.
