Chapter 37: The Beast Kingdom
“The humans are weakened by the war with the Demon Kingdom… Now is the perfect opportunity…”
“Yes, Your Majesty. Shall I convene the Beastmen Assembly?”
“Yes… Summon them.”
A lion-like beastman instructs a turtle-like beastman from the throne.
This is the nation of the beastmen located in the eastern continent…
The Beast Kingdom.
“Bwahahaha!!! At last, the time has come to avenge our grudges against the humans!!!”
In the room devoid of the turtle-like beastman, the lion-like beastman laughs. This man is none other than the king of the Beast Kingdom, Zenos Gallion, also known as the [Beast King].
The history of war between beastmen and humans runs deep.
At its root lies the era when humans treated beastmen as slaves.
About a thousand years ago, in the southern continent, the strong and physically capable beastmen were treated as slaves.
It was the norm at that time.
Resenting this, the first king who later founded the Beast Kingdom, Gallion, emerged.
Gallion, in order to avenge the grievances of his brethren treated as slaves, rallied the beastmen and started a war against the humans.
The extremely brutal war, in which tens of thousands of soldiers were lost on both sides, somehow ended with a peace treaty by the humans, marking the end of the era of beastman slavery, and the beastman slaves were liberated.
The war seemed to end there.
However, the conflict did not end there.
Gallion founded the Beast Kingdom in the eastern continent, where only small nations of demi-humans existed.
Then, he amassed power and, by plotting against the princes of the flourishing kingdoms in the southern continent, incited acts of violence against the beastmen, using it as a trigger for starting a second war.
The war, which did not end until Gallion’s death, was inherited through generations and waged numerous times.
However, for the past decade, it had been in a state of cold war.
This was due to the invasion of the southern continent by the demon nation about ten years ago.
After the war, there was an opportune moment.
Whether the humans won or lost, they would be weakened.
That was the current king’s mindset.
But when a hero appeared among the humans ten years ago, the Beast Kingdom could not afford to act recklessly.
However, it was still the humans who lost that war.
And the death of the hero.
Upon learning this, the king began to move behind the scenes.
To ensure victory in the upcoming war.
However, then came internal strife and wars with the various nations of the eastern continent, and ten years passed.
The king grew impatient.
As time passed, the humans would gather strength again…
At such a time, the demon nation declared war on the southern continent.
Later, it was heard that the humans had kidnapped the demon king’s legitimate son.
And when the prince returned, the war ended.
It was a war where the demon nation demonstrated overwhelming power.
The humans suffered considerable losses.
Now is the time! The king thought so.
“Human scum… Let’s settle our old score here…”
Afterwards… Upon hearing the summons from the king, the members of the Beastmen Assembly understood what would happen next, and they wore defiant smiles, anticipating the events to come.
“Finally, the time has come…”
A tiger beastman with slicked-back golden hair, Bartla, the chief of the Beastmen Assembly and also known as the “Annihilation Demon”, smiled as he wiped his beloved sword.
“Yes… It will be a magnificent battle.”
Beside him, his deputy, a tiger beastman, gazed into the distance with a distant look, staring out of the office window.
“…We will settle the grudges of our ancestors.”
Elsewhere, by the riverbank near a waterfall, a giant elephant beastman sat cross-legged, deep in meditation.
Approaching him were two elephant beastmen, smaller in size but still quite large compared to the average, who joined the meditative man.
“Master… Urgent summons have come from His Majesty.”
“… … …”
The man who had been meditating opened his eyes, causing the ground to tremble as he rose.
Turning around, the middle-aged man, with a serene expression not befitting his massive stature, walked up to the two before him.
“…So, it begins. Well, I had expected as much…”
“Is it… war again?”
“It seems so. His Majesty had been waiting for this opportunity…”
“Master, will you be joining as well?”
“…I detest the shedding of blood… but if it comes to that, it’s our duty to fulfill our roles…”
This middle-aged man was none other than Zone, the second seat of the Beastmen Assembly, also known as the “Bloodless Citadel”.
“Sigh… As expected. It’s war again. How troublesome…”
A birdwoman with flowing orange hair sighed, hearing the orders, and grasped her head.
“Sis… But we can’t back out, right? Please don’t bail on us?”
Beside the complaining woman, a birdman with red hair styled into a mohawk sighed, remarking…
“Still grumbling, huh…”
“I’ll go! I’ll go already. But seriously, there probably aren’t any significant enemies, right? Just Bartla and maybe Graze should be enough.”
This discontented woman was Melina, the third seat of the Beastmen Assembly, known as the “Sky Striker”. Skilled in aerial bombardment magic attacks, she was a formidable warrior in times of war, but generally quite lazy.
“Father! It’s finally happening, huh? I can’t wait to go wild!”
In a training ground within a village nestled in the forest, a particularly large bear beastman spoke to a burly man watching over the bear beastmen’s training.
“You’re finally getting your first battle, huh… Well, this time, keep an eye on my back.”
The burly man, Graze, the fourth seat of the Beastmen Assembly known as the “Rampaging Tyrant”, bared his fangs with confidence.
In another part of the forest, a rhinoceros beastman stood holding a massive hammer.
And then,
“ROOOOAAARRR!!!”
BOOOM!!!
He swung the hammer, sending a large tree flying.
“Another war with humans, huh… What a waste of time. I’d rather go against the Demon Kingdom… Well, with that cowardly king, it’s probably impossible…”
The rhinoceros beastman muttered, looking bored.
This rhinoceros beastman was Belk, the fifth seat of the Beastmen Assembly known as the “Explosive Charge”.
The Beastmen Assembly consisted of the leaders of the five most powerful tribes within the Beast Kingdom, along with the king, and it was primarily convened for the purpose of war. As such, it was the most crucial assembly in the kingdom.
And it was about to convene once again.
As a result, the world would be engulfed in further bloodshed in the days to come.
But that’s a story for another time…
