Chapter 27: Arus Dislikes Snakes (Side Story)
“Hey, El, what’s that? Can we eat it?”
“Well, Captain… I don’t think that’s… uh…”
As someone responsible for soldiers who are always hungry, I often ventured into the forest to hunt, feeling that military rations alone wouldn’t suffice. However, in this world, it’s honestly hard to distinguish between regular animals and magical beasts. Plus, some magical beasts are edible. So, lately, I’ve been bringing El, who grew up in a village of hunters near the forest and knows a lot about magical beasts, with me more frequently.
And now, in front of us, there’s a lizard-like creature about the size of an adult man with a pig-like pink color.
“Captain, there’s no way we can eat that. I mean, did you really think about making that food when you saw those bright pink color and deep red spots on it?”
El looked at me incredulously, shaking his head with a wry smile.
“No, I wasn’t seriously considering eating it… It was just a joke… Hey, don’t give me that look…”
As I desperately tried to explain,
“El, can we eat that thing?”
Gaizen, who was in charge of carrying the prey, pointed behind us.
Following his finger, we turned around and saw a snake-like creature, about the size of a large tree with green and purple stripes, hissing at us with predatory eyes.
“Gaizen… Are you kidding me?”
El exclaimed incredulously, pulling out a magic gun the size of a fist from his pocket.
“W-what do you mean by kidding?”
Gaizen, looking annoyed, raised his large axe.
“Hey, Gaizen… Even I know for sure that thing’s absolutely off-limits…”
I drew my sword, keeping my distance from the large snake.
“Captain, Gaizen, please be careful. This large snake is a subspecies of Poison Snake. If its bodily fluids get into a wound or into your mouth, it’s instant death.”
Upon hearing El’s words, I sheathed my sword and raised my right hand, using telekinesis to grab the snake and lift it high above my head, then throwing it upside down a distance away.
The sound of trees falling and the earth shaking was accompanied by a tremendous impact, but just to be sure, I further unleashed a downpour of rain and thunder in the direction the snake fell.
An immense roar echoed through the forest.
“Captain, isn’t that a bit excessive?”
Gaizen, who usually goes overboard, remarked cautiously.
But to be honest, I really hate snakes. And if I heard it’s highly poisonous, there’s no helping it if I go this far.
They’re gross and dangerous.
I’m not the bad guy here.
Definitely not.
Later, when we returned to where the rest of the team was, we were scolded by the colonel who had come to see us for causing such a commotion in the forest.
