Chapter 20: First Surprise Assault Unit
As a declaration of war echoed against the fortress on the outskirts of the Tyran Empire, the forces of the Demon Nation were simultaneously pressing forward onto the Mariana Principality.
“I’m Randle, leading the Demon Nation’s First Surprise Assault Unit.”
“In the name of the Demon King, I declare war here!”
“His Majesty has commanded the return of what your nation took away to stop this conflict.”
“Well, I couldn’t care less about that!!”
“Now then, let the onslaught commence! Unleash overwhelming force!”
In the large port city of the Mariana Principality, there was a floating fortress surrounded by dragon knights and a swarm of large aquatic monsters.
“They’re enemies!! Intercept them, you bastards!!!”
A rare figure with the unusual background of a former pirate captain, Vice Admiral, shouted loudly at his soldiers, a rough bunch of powerhouses, as he himself repelled the swarm with a spear twice his height.
Then, a tempest of fire and lightning magic began.
Soldiers fell one after another.
“Darn it! Hey! Take down those flying dragons above!!!”
He commanded the magic unit to intercept.
However, the magic attacks, despite their excellent mobility, couldn’t reach the dragon knights stationed far above.
We couldn’t hit them, yet a continuous onslaught of magical attacks rained down from them.
The soldiers, who were meant to have a numerical advantage in the fortress, were slowly transforming into lifeless corpses.
If only reinforcements from the royal capital’s flying mage unit could swiftly arrive.
Then, the advantage in the air would be gone.
The Vice Admiral held onto the thought that there was still a chance of winning.
However, the hope was quickly vanished when a man descended into the fortress.
It was Randle, the captain of the Demon Nation’s unit, who had declared war first.
Tall, with golden hair, and a striking appearance.
However, he had large black wings on his back.
Clearly, he belonged to the demon race.
Randle, with a large halberd slung over his shoulder, landed in the middle of the fortress, right in the midst of the soldiers.
The soldiers were taken aback.
Randle muttered something under his breath, then took a deep breath with a whoosh, and…
“Haaaaaa!!!”
He shouted loudly.
The Vice Admiral wondered what was going on.
However, he quickly understood.
Dark attribute, intermediate-level, confusion magic.
The soldiers, wide-eyed and trembling, began to attack their allies with strange cries.
“Giyaaaah!!!”
“Waaah!! It hurts!!”
“You!!”
“I’ll kill you!!!”
The Vice Admiral swallowed hard as he watched the scene.
In this crowded environment, it was an incredibly effective magic.
As expected of the powerful Demon Nation… Wait, where is that guy?
In the instant Vice Admiral was left dumbfounded watching the soldiers attacking each other in confusion, Randle had already disappeared.
A magic-resistant soldier nearby who wasn’t affected by the confusion shouted.
“Vice Admiral!!! He’s above us!!!”
Before he could even ready his spear, the Vice Admiral felt intense pain in his right shoulder, left arm, and thigh at astonishing speed.
In pain, the Vice Admiral dropped to one knee.
“You probably can’t move anyway, so why don’t you rest for a while?”
After that, Randle’s swift hand blade rendered him unconscious.
After that, it was just a ruthless rampage.
The soldiers, now without their leader, easily lost morale. They were attacked by monsters, struck by the dragon knights’ magical assaults, and the confused soldiers engaged in mutual combat. The Vice Admiral’s subordinates, who took over command, were also beheaded one by one by Randle.
By the time the Vice Admiral regained consciousness, the fortress was already in ruins.
“You… Why did you spare me?”
The Vice Admiral bit his lip, letting blood drip.
“If you have any information about what occurred with His Majesty’s possession during the war ten years ago, taken by the alliance and the hero, spill it now. Otherwise, I’ll kill you right here.”
“…What!? Something like that… No, there’s no way I wouldn’t know about such a thing happening in a place I don’t know…”
“Tch. You don’t know. Well, forget it then.”
Smoothly and casually, Randle severed the Vice Admiral’s neck, widening his eyes.
Then, amid the pile of corpses that once comprised the fortress officers, Randle directed his subordinates, raised the Demon Nation’s large flag, and casually tossed the declaration of war paper nearby.
“Alright, all of you are next!!”
