- Chapter 125 - The March Hare and the Daytime Monster
Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang left the cafeteria, heading directly towards the inpatient building with their supplies.
Yun Shuanghua hesitated for a moment but eventually decided to follow them.
Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang noticed Yun Shuanghua trailing behind and exchanged a quick glance, but said nothing.
Yun Shuanghua offered, “Want me to help carry something?”
Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang didn’t refuse, handing over some of the potatoes, tomatoes, and noodles.
Then, Yun Shuanghua naturally walked to the other side of Jing Qizhen and curiously asked, “Where are we going?”
Jing Qizhen replied, “To the inpatient building.”
Yun Shuanghua pointed out, “The entrance is that way—”
Before he could finish speaking, Yun Shuanghua caught sight of the rope ladder that Lu Lingxi had lowered from the window in the night, and he hesitated, asking, “Do you all go through the window? Is there a reason for this?”
Jing Qizhen: “Mainly, we don’t want to attract the attention of the other survivors.”
When they arrived at the inpatient building, neither Jing Qizhen nor Si Jiayang said a word. Naturally, Yun Shuanghua also fell silent.
Manman walked to the bedside, looked at the three people below, and fell silent as well.
Could Yun Shuanghua really be a trigger NPC for the specific places in the erosion area?
Manman couldn’t help but suspect that the reason they didn’t encounter Yun Shuanghua last time in the remote village of Shennongjia was because their initial exploration range wasn’t big enough…
The inpatient building was just two floors high and with the rope ladder, Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang climbed up without much effort. Yun Shuanghua, without being reserved, followed them up as well.
Inside the ward, seeing the others sleeping soundly on the beds, Yun Shuanghua was about to speak when Jing Qizhen gestured for him to be quiet.
Yun Shuanghua obediently fell silent.
Lu Lingxi had already begun retracting the rope ladder and then carefully closed the window, leaving just a small gap wide enough to set up a sniper rifle.
Wilcox, who had been asleep, drowsily opened his eyes and muttered softly, “What’s that smell? Smells so good… I dreamed I smelled fries.”
Si Jiayang quietly stuffed a fry into his mouth and whispered, “You’re dreaming, keep sleeping!”
Manman: “…”
Wilcox’s eyes suddenly widened, “…!!!”
He had been half-asleep, but as soon as the fry was in his mouth, he was jolted awake. Seeing that it wasn’t a terrifying ghost but Si Jiayang who did it, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. Chewing the fry and swallowing it, Wilcox whispered, “You almost scared me to death. I thought a ghost stuffed a human finger in my mouth. It’s terrifying.”
Si Jiayang gave a silent laugh, then handed the fries and freshly made tomato sauce to Manman. “Want some? Are you still sleepy?”
Manman let out a light sigh and smiled slightly. “I’m fine.”
She then handed her phone to Si Jiayang and Jing Qizhen. “Those four police officers are still discussing things with the ghosts, but it looks like they can’t reach a consensus.”
Jing Qizhen nodded. “Who knows how long it’ll last, probably until eight in the morning at the latest.”
Lu Lingxi turned around. “You guys get some sleep first. We’ll switch night shifts every two hours.”
Jing Qizhen chuckled softly. “For the last shift at six in the morning, we can call Grandma Fang. She usually wakes up early.”
The ward had six single beds. Originally, there were eight people; Jing Qizhen, Si Jiayang, Manman, Lu Lingxi, Grandma Fang, Jin Guijuan, Wilcox, and Old Xiao. Add the newly arrived Wang Feizhou, making them nine.
Earlier, when Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang went out to explore, Manman and Lu Lingxi kept watch. Meanwhile, Grandma Fang, Jin Guijuan, Wilcox, Old Xiao, and Wang Feizhou lay down to rest, so the five beds were enough.
Now that everyone had returned, with the addition of Yun Shuanghua, the six beds suddenly became insufficient.
Jing Qizhen glanced around the room and pointed to the last available bed. “You and Manman take a rest,” he said to Si Jiayang.
Manman looked at Jing Qizhen. “What about you?”
Jing Qizhen pointed at the table and chairs nearby. “I’ll just nap on the table. School life trained me to sleep on desks.”
Given the situation, no one fussed over the sleeping arrangements.
Besides, it was already late at night and making noise to move another bed or find more blankets was impractical.
After a slight hesitation, Manman quietly suggested, “How about this, I’ll squeeze in with Guijuan and you can pull one of the bedding layers from the bed and spread it on the table. That way, we can all rest a bit more comfortably.”
Jing Qizhen thought about it and agreed.
Since both girls were relatively petite, although the single bed was narrow, it was just manageable.
Jin Guijuan was already lying on the inside of the bed by the wall and Manman quietly lay on the outer side. When she noticed Si Jiayang looking at her, she smiled softly and mouthed, “Good night!”
As for the last available bed, Jing Qizhen gestured to Yun Shuanghua, considering it polite to offer it to the newcomer.
Yun Shuanghua shook his head. “I don’t need it.”
Jing Qizhen raised an eyebrow but didn’t question it. Instead, he whispered, “Then sit with me on the chairs. Jiayang, go to sleep.”
Si Jiayang didn’t argue, saying, “I’ll switch with Lu Lingxi later.”
Lu Lingxi gave an ‘OK’ gesture.
At the table, Jing Qizhen pulled over two chairs.
Since Yun Shuanghua was there, Jing Qizhen didn’t bother lying down and instead leaned on the chair, resting his arm on the table.
Following his example, Yun Shuanghua also sat down next to Jing Qizhen, using his opposite arm to rest on the table.
The two of them sat face-to-face, leaning on the table. Yun Shuanghua looked perfectly at ease, while Jing Qizhen found himself at a loss for words at Yun Shuanghua’s bright, gentle smile.
Jing Qizhen: “…”
The Earth chimed in, “Honestly, this guy keeps staring at you. Don’t you humans have trouble sleeping when someone’s watching you like that?”
Jing Qizhen calmly replied in his mind, “It’s not a big deal.” After that, he simply crossed his arms, turned his head away, and faced the opposite direction, showing only the back of his head, still partially covered by his hat, to Yun Shuanghua.
Yun Shuanghua: “…”
The Earth: “Huh…” Right, human eyes can only see within a range of less than 180 degrees, completely different from its own 360-degree vision as a planet!

On the other side, the March Hare was busy digging a complete rabbit hole under the hospital, making sure that if the police came looking for it, it could jump into the hole and escape without being taken to court!
After thinking it over and feeling secure, the March Hare finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Taking out a golden pocket watch from the vest of its jazz tuxedo, the March Hare seriously checked the time. It was already six in the morning. Only then did it climb out of the hole and head toward the hospital cafeteria.
However, when it returned to the cafeteria looking for Yun Shuanghua, all it saw was the smoke dissipating. Although the air was no longer choking, the stove was blackened, the walls were smoke-stained, and the pot contained a pile of something supposedly stir-fried shredded potatoes that looked utterly unbearable.
The hospital cafeteria looked as if it had just survived a fire and the March Hare stood there, ears upright in shock.
Still wearing its red jazz tuxedo, the March Hare widened its eyes, ears pointed straight up, and couldn’t help but sneeze several times. Its already bright red eyes became even redder. After looking around and finding no trace of Yun Shuanghua, it began to shout anxiously everywhere. “Your Highness the Prince, where have you gone?! Please don’t abandon your loyal Sir Rabbit!”
Of course, there was no response from the hospital cafeteria.
The March Hare, growing more anxious, started searching all over the hospital, loudly calling out.
In the special environment, no one could sleep soundly.
By six in the morning, most of the people in the hospital ward building had already woken up. At most, a few still feeling sleepy were lying down for a bit more rest.
That was until they all heard the March Hare’s shouting.
Earlier, when Wilcox and Old Xiao took the night watch, they had already given up their beds to Jing Qizhen and the newly arrived Yun Shuanghua.
Hearing the March Hare’s calls now, Jing Qizhen’s heart couldn’t help but skip a beat, not knowing what kind of new chaos the giant rabbit might stir up in the hospital.
Jing Qizhen reached out and pushed Yun Shuanghua hard, “It’s looking for you!”
Although Yun Shuanghua had kept his eyes closed, as soon as he opened them, they were instantly clear. As he sat up, he noticed that not only Jing Qizhen but everyone else in the ward was also staring at him with bright, piercing eyes…
For a moment, Yun Shuanghua, feeling at a loss: “…”
The March Hare’s shouting continued. After a moment of confusion, Yun Shuanghua hesitantly said, “…Should I go call it?”
Jing Qizhen: “Wait a minute.”
As he spoke, he was already checking his phone to look at last night’s surveillance footage.
Upon seeing him, Granny Fang immediately said, “I already checked earlier. Around six in the morning, those four policemen and the ghosts finally stopped their standoff. It was as if they had never discussed the topic, the policemen just went back on their own and the ghost doctors and nurses returned to their offices.”
Jing Qizhen: “Around six, that’s about sunrise time.”
Granny Fang nodded.
Outside, the March Hare’s calls grew closer. Yun Shuanghua looked at Jing Qizhen and asked, “Are we just going to let it keep shouting?”
Jing Qizhen rubbed his forehead in frustration. Just as he was about to respond, a sudden, terrified scream erupted from the neighboring ward.
Before they could react, someone started banging on their door from the outside, accompanied by desperate cries, “Wake up! There’s a new monster outside!”
“Daytime isn’t safe anymore! None of us can escape, we’re all going to die…”
“Help, someone save me!”
Everyone in the room looked at each other, completely worn down by the relentless knocking.
If it wasn’t the March Hare looking for the Prince but a real monster outside, the racket those survivors were making would have surely drawn it in.
Even the March Hare, hearing the shouting from upstairs, perked up its ears.
Although it could tell that the voice wasn’t from the honorable Prince, it still decided to go and ask if anyone had seen the prince.
The March Hare mumbled to itself, “There’s someone on the second floor. Where’s the entrance to this building? Oh, found it! Sir Rabbit can go and ask for information!”
Jing Qizhen looked at Yun Shuanghua, “That rabbit is coming here on its own.”
Yun Shuanghua: “…”
He didn’t expect this development.
Wang Feizhou, unfamiliar with the March Hare, had naturally looked out the window when he heard talk of a ‘daytime monster’ and was immediately stunned by the March Hare’s striking appearance.
After hesitating for a moment, seeing that Jing Qizhen and the others didn’t seem tense, Wang Feizhou relaxed a bit and even joked, “That big rabbit downstairs looks like it wandered off the set; it should be at Disneyland, not at Binhai City’s Second Municipal Hospital.”
Wilcox: “Actually, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ is a part of Disney’s princess series.”
Wang Feizhou: “Oh, I was just saying.”
Jing Qizhen had already gotten up to open the door for the panicked survivors.
One of them immediately grabbed his arm, panic-stricken, and shouted, “We have to run! That monster is already coming upstairs!”
Jing Qizhen grabbed the doorframe to steady himself, not planning to flee with them, but nodded seriously, “Thanks…?”
*
Although they were the ones who attracted the March Hare, the fact that they still warned others at a time like this showed they were decent people.
At that moment, Jin Guijuan, who was watching the surveillance footage with Manman, suddenly exclaimed, “I figured out the problem! It’s those four policemen!”
