- Chapter 122 - Chef Si Jiayang
The March Hare looked bewildered and puzzled. “Eh? Is that so? You humans are really complicated!”
Jing Qizhen: “As if the schemes and wrongful convictions in your Fairytale Kingdom are any less real.”
The March Hare was startled, “How do you know!?”
Jing Qizhen blinked and said casually, “Next time we meet, I’ll give you a storybook, a deluxe edition.”
The March Hare: “…Oh!” As long as it wasn’t a barbecue grill and seasonings for the noble Sir Rabbit!
The Earth: “Are you planning to bring a copy of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ next time? You just want to see how the characters react when they find out they’re in a book, don’t you? What if the March Hare has a mental breakdown?”
Jing Qizhen sincerely replied, “I really didn’t think that far.” If the big rabbit wasn’t an enemy, it was actually kind of cute. He genuinely just wanted to give it a book.
The Earth: “Hmm?”
Jing Qizhen sighed lightly, “Are you sure that after getting the book ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’, this The March Hare will suddenly realize that it is a character from the book, rather than being proud and smug that humans secretly wrote a biography for the noble Sir Rabbit and even published it?”
The Earth: “…” Damn! Looking at that narcissistic The March Hare, it can’t even argue!
Jing Qizhen stopped worrying about the March Hare with the Earth and casually changed the topic, “But that big rabbit really hit the mark. If the 120 emergency center does report to the police because of it, I think the scene would be pretty interesting…”
The Earth’s thoughts were quickly diverted by Jing Qizhen, “The police will come, right? But when they arrive, they’ll find out the emergency center made a false report…”
In his mind, Jing Qizhen said to the Earth, “I’m mainly curious whether the police, as outsiders to this hospital, will be ghosts or real humans, and whether they can break the current subtle balance of the hospital.”
Ever since they saw local residents in a remote mountain village in Shennongjia walk into the mist and return safely, Jing Qizhen had a vague suspicion that the erosion area itself might be a special and complete world formed by the intersection of two spaces, not just the limited area they could see.
However, as outsiders who accidentally entered from the real world, they might only be seeing the tip of the iceberg. The dense fog filled with spatial cracks was impassable for Jing Qizhen and the others as outsiders, and even the items they used for experiments would be completely crushed to powder.
But perhaps the creatures native to the erosion area would not face such limitations.
Meeting Yun Shuanghua and the March Hare this time made Jing Qizhen suspect the connections between different erosion areas even more.
Since they could leave the erosion area, return to the Earth, and move to another coordinate point in the real world, then re-enter a different erosion area from that new coordinate point, does this mean there might be other paths within the erosion area itself to achieve such displacement?
A sizzling sound came from the pan as the diced tomatoes started to release a sweet and sour aroma.
The March Hare’s nose twitched slightly and it couldn’t help but exclaim, “Smells so good!”
Si Jiayang: “Aren’t rabbits not supposed to eat tomatoes?”
The March Hare: “Sir Rabbit can eat anything!”
Yun Shuanghua was puzzled. “Didn’t you just say you’d rather eat grass outside?”
The March Hare looked at the honorable Prince in disbelief. Back in the Fairytale Kingdom, as the noble Sir Rabbit, the March Hare always sat at the table enjoying exquisite dishes!
Jing Qizhen calmly said, “Think about that pot of porridge just now. Instead of questioning why the big rabbit would rather eat grass outside, you’re not even reflecting on it?”
Although Jing Qizhen wasn’t great at cooking, at most he would either put too little water and make the rice too dry or put too much and turn it into porridge. But to fill the entire cafeteria with a burnt smell like Yun Shuanghua did, that was quite a feat…
Yun Shuanghua looked at Jing Qizhen with a slightly innocent expression. “What I made might not be as tasty as Si Jiayang’s, but it’s not that bad, right…?”
Jing Qizhen instinctively asked, “You can actually eat it?”
Yun Shuanghua nodded affirmatively. “Yes.”
Jing Qizhen: “…Then never mind.”
He was more certain of his previous assumption. Yun Shuanghua wasn’t indifferent to food aesthetics; his threshold for acceptable food was just a bit beyond the average person…
Not wanting to continue the topic, Jing Qizhen half-jokingly and half-seriously said to the March Hare, “I guess you probably don’t like barbecue.”
The March Hare looked aggrieved, even using an inverted sentence, “Why are you bullying me…?” Why suddenly pick on the noble, punctual Sir Rabbit?
The hospital cafeteria, filled with the aroma of food, was brimming with a lively and cheerful atmosphere.
In the inpatient building, Manman and Lu Lingxi exchanged glances, both hearing the commotion from the hospital cafeteria through their earphones.
Lu Lingxi, still holding his gun, quietly chatted with Manman, “I still don’t quite understand Yun Shuanghua’s situation, or that The March Hare… It just feels like it’s in the wrong scene.”
Knowing that Si Jiayang and Jing Qizhen were safe, Manman also relaxed and smiled, lowering her voice, “Seems friendly for now; let’s just observe the situation.”
Lu Lingxi nodded.
In the hospital cafeteria, the March Hare, unable to find a new topic and knowing Jing Qizhen was curious about the ghosts, began repeating the story of how it went to move the operating table but returned empty-handed.
The March Hare: “I was so focused on bringing the missing person notice to the Prince that I forgot my bed…”
Jing Qizhen: “But you were lucky enough to get a delicious midnight snack!”
The March Hare: “That’s true, slurp!”
The Earth: “Slurp! So you can actually make tomato sauce yourself? I’ve only seen bottled ones in supermarkets or small packets from fast-food restaurants.”
Hearing two simultaneous gulping sounds, Jing Qizhen was speechless.
Yun Shuanghua had already set the bowls and chopsticks neatly on the table, waiting for Si Jiayang to finish cooking. He casually asked the March Hare, “So are you still going to move the operating table later?”
The March Hare shook its head. “No, the doctors and nurses there either run fast or scream loudly. I tried opening the operating room door, but it requires a card swipe, and I couldn’t get in.”
Jing Qizhen silently pushed a key card across the table towards it.
The March Hare was shocked, “Why do you have a key card?!” However, after seeing the surgical gowns that Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang had placed nearby, the March Hare immediately understood. “Oh, you two are doctors here!”
After that, the March Hare happily took the operating room key card handed over by Jing Qizhen. “I’ll go after eating.”
Jing Qizhen: “…” Seeing this silly rabbit, I suddenly feel a bit guilty.
The rice in the rice cooker wasn’t done yet but Si Jiayang, who was quick with his movements, had already placed a plate of spicy shredded potatoes on the table. “Go early and come back early! If you see those ghosts doing something weird, let us know.”
The March Hare agreed straightforwardly and reached out with a spoon to scoop up some shredded potatoes, “Alright.”
Jing Qizhen: “…Can rabbits eat chili?”
The Earth suddenly huffed, “If it says it can eat, then let it be. Don’t worry about it!”
Jing Qizhen: “Why are you so agitated, Babyball?” Is this just the frustration of seeing and not being able to eat?
The Earth: “…”
The March Hare, seemingly fine, even chewed and swallowed the spicy sauce before nodding to Si Jiayang in approval. Then it continued, “Weird things? Everything those ghosts do is weird!”
Jing Qizhen: “Like what?”
Yun Shuanghua had already picked up his chopsticks, but he glanced at Jing Qizhen first, “Aren’t you eating?”
Jing Qizhen smiled, “I’m not hungry yet. I’ll wait and eat with Jiayang and the others.”
The Earth resentfully whispered in Jing Qizhen’s mind, “Si Jiayang came all this way just to cook for them.”
Jing Qizhen didn’t respond. He felt that the Earth’s resentment seemed to be about something else and not about Si Jiayang’s efforts. Furthermore, Si Jiayang was clearly cooking for Manman and everyone, while casually adding in Yun Shuanghua, the kitchen destroyer, and the grass-fed March Hare. Perhaps, when Si Jiayang saw Yun Shuanghua and the March Hare, he felt more sympathy than anything else…
The March Hare really couldn’t handle spicy food. While panting, it kept chatting casually with Jing Qizhen. “It’s like… just now when I met a nurse, there were suddenly a series of screams from the building across the way and those nurses turned pale with fear, babbling about the infected going mad again.”
Jing Qizhen: “What time was that?”
The March Hare, who always kept a pocket watch, was quite sensitive to time. It responded with a very exact timestamp.
Jing Qizhen: “At that moment, I was in the building across from them. Some people said they were survivors who had escaped from the hospital and those ghosts were after them.”
The March Hare’s ears stood up in surprise. “Huh?”
While they were talking, Jing Qizhen turned his gaze toward Yun Shuanghua.
That guy had been quietly focusing on his meal, adding a word or two to the conversation here and there, but his main attention was elsewhere.
Noticing Jing Qizhen’s stare, Yun Shuanghua paused and turned back, smiling. “Yes? What’s up?”
Jing Qizhen said, “I was thinking… back in Yunhai Wancheng Department Store, when you were being chased by that ghost, Miss Li.”
Yun Shuanghua clearly didn’t view that as a humiliating moment. His eyes even glimmered a little as he put down his chopsticks, his voice soft with happiness. “Ah, you remember that!”
Jing Qizhen: “I remember.”
Why did Yun Shuanghua’s reaction suddenly feel a little strange? This shouldn’t be…
Jing Qizhen lowered his gaze slightly. Currently, Yun Shuanghua is much more composed than he used to be.
The Earth’s voice appeared in Jing Qizhen’s mind as it remembered something, “Ah! And starting from the last erosion area, Yun Shuanghua seemed to avoid those creatures instead of openly engaging them like he did the first time.”
Jing Qizhen fell into deep thought. While it was true that the first time Yun Shuanghua was forced into danger by the lady ghost Miss Li probably due to the dried pork, afterwards, it seemed that Yun Shuanghua was avoiding danger more and more.
Jing Qizhen even casually speculated to the Earth, “When we saw Yun Shuanghua again after he lost his memory, he was busy with his baguette. And this time, he headed straight toward the cafeteria.”
In the end, Jing Qizhen concluded, “While his character may have changed, his nature seems to remain the same.”
Thinking back and thinking forward, Jing Qizhen suddenly fell into a puzzling realization. Was it all due to the temporary hotpot made by Si Jiayang before he left?
The Earth’s voice fell silent.
To be fair, if it were in Yun Shuanghua’s place, it would also rush toward the cafeteria. At that moment, the Earth completely understood Yun Shuanghua’s state of mind. What’s the appeal of ghosts when there’s food?
At that moment, a rush of police sirens suddenly came from a distance.
Jing Qizhen paused and turned toward the March Hare.
Si Jiayang, busy cooking, also turned his head; he still clearly remembered that emergency call made by the March Hare, a call that was definitely confusing.
Through his earpiece, he heard Lu Lingxi and Manman’s hushed voices.
“What’s going on?”
The hospital was not far away and the wails of the police car were enough to break the previously heavy silence.
Yun Shuanghua paused with his chopsticks in hand, seemingly unsure whether the police’s sudden appearance would affect their plans. He turned to Jing Qizhen and asked, “What are you going to do now?”
The March Hare was the most shocked. The spoon fell from its grip, its ears drooped, and it stuttered in disbelief, “The emergency center really called the police!?”
Jing Qizhen tried to ease its worries. “Don’t be afraid. There aren’t many cameras in hospitals these days; no one will discover it was you who made that call.”
Jing Qizhen thought to himself that, instead of a scandal about a doctor injuring a nurse while attempting to escape, those ghosts might be much more eager to tell the police a wild story about a talking rabbit, terrifying yet ridiculous…
