- Chapter 121 - The big rabbit just spoke Chinese!!!
Inside the hospital ward building, Lu Lingxi, wearing infrared night-vision goggles, had been monitoring the route Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang were taking. When he suddenly saw a figure at the hospital cafeteria door, and after hearing Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang confirm through the earpiece that it was Yun Shuanghua, Lu Lingxi was shocked.
It was already late at night. Grandma Fang, Jin Guijuan, and the others were lying down to rest. Only Manman, worried about Si Jiayang, kept her earpiece on while monitoring the video feed of the adjacent survivor’s ward on her phone.
Although Lu Lingxi couldn’t see what was happening after Jing Qizhen and Si Jiayang entered the cafeteria with Yun Shuanghua, he could roughly infer from their conversation that the situation was under control. It made him relax slightly.
Then, not long after, a new figure appeared outside the cafeteria.
When Lu Lingxi saw the newcomer wearing a top hat and having two furry, upright rabbit ears, he was completely stunned. For a moment, he didn’t know whether to be more shocked by Yun Shuanghua’s appearance or the arrival of the March Hare.
“Manman,” Lu Lingxi called softly.
Manman looked up and held her phone as she walked over. “What’s going on?”
Lu Lingxi pointed in the direction of the March Hare. “Take the binoculars and look over there.”
Manman did as instructed and fell silent immediately. She happened to see the March Hare just arriving at the cafeteria entrance, waving something in its hand.
Lu Lingxi murmured, “Is that the March Hare…?”
Manman felt unsettled, but her tone remained calm. “A large, upright-walking rabbit like this isn’t common. Especially one wearing a little tuxedo and a jazz hat with ear holes. I only know of one, The March Hare.”
Lu Lingxi: “I’ve only seen this one too…”
To be fair, the March Hare from ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ has a very distinctive appearance.
Manman and Lu Lingxi exchanged a glance, both seeing the silence and complexity in each other’s eyes.
The erosion area was already peculiar and Yun Shuanghua, who kept appearing in the erosion area, was full of suspicions. But now, the appearance of the March Hare raised a completely new issue.
Manman frowned slightly and whispered, “It seems that different erosion areas can connect with each other…”
***
Over at the hospital cafeteria, the March Hare entered while holding the missing person notice. When the March Hare spotted Jing Qizhen sitting at the dining table with its ruby-like eyes, it was as if someone had suddenly grabbed its throat. Its once-enthusiastic voice came to an abrupt halt.
“Why are you here?!” The March Hare choked out, incredulous.
Especially since the scene was the hospital cafeteria, with the lingering burnt smell from Yun Shuanghua’s cooking. The March Hare felt a sense of panic and despair, reminiscent of when it was once covered in barbecue seasoning.
Si Jiayang, who was holding a ladle and washing rice, froze at the sight of the March Hare’s shocked and distressed gaze. Suppressing his own surprise, Si Jiayang smiled and waved the ladle in greeting. “Yo, we meet again. What are you doing here?”
Jing Qizhen also glanced at Yun Shuanghua, casually asking the same question, “Are you two together?”
The March Hare immediately responded, “Of course! I came with His Highness the Prince!” The furry rabbit waved its paw, causing the missing person notice in its hand to flutter in the wind.
Both Jing Qizhen and Yun Shuanghua’s attention was drawn to the missing person notice.
The Earth suddenly shouted in Jing Qizhen’s mind, “Why does the March Hare have the missing person notice?!”
Jing Qizhen calmly replied, “It means it went to the old hospital building and might have met that ghost nurse.”
The Earth speculated, “Maybe it can smell the scent of the missing person notice with Yun Shuanghua’s picture!”
Jing Qizhen paused for a moment and reminded the suddenly imaginative Earth, “Yun Shuanghua just said the March Hare went to eat grass…”
The Earth: “Oh, right…”
Yun Shuanghua showed no intention of hiding his association with the March Hare, as if there was no need to lie about it.
Compared to Jing Qizhen’s calm reaction, Yun Shuanghua, who took the missing person notice from the March Hare, looked surprised for once. His usually sunny and bright face showed a hint of unexpected emotion. “Someone… is looking for me?”
He stared seriously at the photo of himself on the notice and the heartfelt message below it. [Buddy, do you still remember your name?]
The March Hare moved its three-part mouth and mumbled, “I don’t know who wrote it, but they’re looking for His Highness the Prince.”
Jing Qizhen admitted bluntly, “I wrote it.”
The March Hare’s expression froze.
Yun Shuanghua chuckled softly and a trace of unexpected tenderness appeared on his handsome face. After a moment of silence, Yun Shuanghua looked at Jing Qizhen and blinked, his bright smile almost reaching his eyes. His deep, dark eyes seemed to sparkle, as if filled with starlight.
“How did you know I was here?” Yun Shuanghua couldn’t help but ask.
Jing Qizhen answered honestly, “I didn’t know. I just had to try.”
Yun Shuanghua didn’t mind the straightforward answer. Instead, his smile grew purer, as if the stars in his eyes had awakened. Yun Shuanghua’s voice was full of laughter, “Were you worried that I’d lose my memory and get into trouble?”
Jing Qizhen hesitated slightly, thinking back to when Yun Shuanghua had objectively commented that the ghost lady Miss Li wasn’t that powerful, showed incredible physical endurance, and remained unaffected after eating Si Jiayang’s ‘enhanced’ food. Clearly, Yun Shuanghua’s physical condition was far beyond that of an ordinary human. It didn’t seem like there was any need to worry about his safety.
It felt like Yun Shuanghua had imagined something on his own and was overly happy about it…
Jing Qizhen awkwardly changed the topic, “… So, this time, you remember your name?”
Yun Shuanghua nodded with a smile. “Of course, you don’t have to worry about me!”
Although the name was something he made up on the spot when browsing the supermarket shelves at Yunhai Wancheng Department Store, it still sounded quite smooth, so he had no intention of changing it.
Jing Qizhen unconsciously blurted out, “Last time you… never mind, it wasn’t like you completely forgot your name.” It just felt weird, as if Yun Shuanghua’s name belonged to someone else…
Yun Shuanghua didn’t shy away from the topic, nodding as he replied, “Sometimes I’m a bit out of it, but it’s nothing serious. If you need help with anything, just ask.”
Jing Qizhen looked at him, thinking to himself, ‘Does that mean after asking him for help, I’ll need to ask Si Jiayang to cook for him as a thank you?’
Unaware of Jing Qizhen’s thoughts, Yun Shuanghua continued to smile with his eyes curved.
The smell of burnt porridge still lingered in the cafeteria, but Si Jiayang had already rinsed the rice and started a new batch. He also found some fresh potatoes from the kitchen’s sack, skillfully peeling and soaking them.
Si Jiayang, half talking to himself and half asking the others, said, “It seems like there are only potatoes here. I’ll make some fries and a few vegetable potato pancakes. Manman prefers those over stir-fried potatoes or cold shredded potatoes. As for other dishes, what do you want to eat?”
Jing Qizhen: “I’m not picky. Just make whatever you think is good.”
Yun Shuanghua couldn’t help but say proactively, “There are cucumbers, tomatoes, and spicy sauce in the cabinet over there.”
Si Jiayang: “Eh? Then I’ll fry some fresh tomato sauce for Manman. I’ll use the spicy sauce to make a cold potato salad!”
Jing Qizhen, looking at Si Jiayang with a complicated expression, “…”
Why do this couple, even when they’re not together, each master the skill of single-handedly flaunting their relationship? Enough already!
Si Jiayang didn’t mind at all, even proudly raising an eyebrow at Jing Qizhen. Then, standing in front of the cutting board, he grabbed a kitchen knife and skillfully chopped several large potatoes into strips, shreds, and slices.
Yun Shuanghua watched Si Jiayang’s swift movements as he chopped the potatoes, his eyes filled with envy.
The March Hare, still trembling at the door, felt a bit relieved after His Highness the Prince took the missing person’s notice from its hand and seemed to ignore it. However, when the March Hare saw Si Jiayang’s skilled chopping motions, it couldn’t help but twitch its long ears.
But the March Hare had celebrated too early.
As soon as the March Hare’s ears twitched, Jing Qizhen looked over curiously from the dining table and asked, “Why are you here? I know you came with your prince, but isn’t this place far from the Fairytale Kingdom?”
Based on the Earth’s coordinates, it was practically across the entire Pacific Ocean! Jing Qizhen and his group came by plane, but how did the March Hare and Yun Shuanghua get there?
Of course, the most important question was, could two entirely different erosion areas be connected?
The March Hare glanced cautiously at Yun Shuanghua. Seeing that His Highness the Prince showed no reaction, it blinked its red eyes and mumbled, “It’s not that far! I just walked and walked, and somehow got here. Besides, since you’re here, of course, I can follow His Highness the Prince’s footsteps!”
As it spoke, the March Hare seemed to find its reasoning more convincing and became increasingly confident.
Seeing the March Hare’s reaction, Jing Qizhen realized that he wouldn’t get a clear answer from it.
He turned his gaze to Yun Shuanghua, who kept smiling but didn’t seem inclined to explain, so Jing Qizhen suppressed his urge to ask further. Considering Yun Shuanghua’s current friendly attitude, Jing Qizhen hesitated to push too hard, fearing it might upset the current balance…
In Jing Qizhen’s mind, the Earth excitedly exclaimed, “The big rabbit just spoke Chinese! It actually knows more than one language!”
Jing Qizhen paused, realizing that something had felt off earlier. It was because of that!
The Earth continued, “Ask that big rabbit! What about those ghosts? It just went to the old hospital building, it couldn’t have missed the ghosts!”
Jing Qizhen: “It must have encountered them since it brought back the missing person’s notice.”
Meanwhile, Yun Shuanghua carefully folded the notice and tucked it into his pocket, patting it to flatten it.
Jing Qizhen fell into thought. What could he possibly do with that thing?
After a moment, Jing Qizhen asked the March Hare, following the Earth’s suggestion, “Did you encounter any ghosts earlier?”
The March Hare looked confused, “Ghosts!?”
Jing Qizhen: “Those ghost doctors and nurses.”
The March Hare: “Oh, oh, yeah, I did.”
Then, the March Hare recounted the whole story of how it called 911 to report an emergency.
After hearing the story, Jing Qizhen exchanged glances with Si Jiayang who was still cooking.
Jing Qizhen sincerely said to the March Hare, “Don’t you think the emergency center might have misunderstood your report as a case of a doctor injuring a nurse and then fleeing out of guilt?”
