Hi there! I'm "One Shameless Bookworm" who thrives on novels, especially Chinese BL ones! Please let me know what do you think about this novel in the comments section. Did you like my translation? Feel free to Buy Me a Milk Tea

Jian Yuanbai closed his mouth in aggrievement and placed the back of his hand on Wei Zhenge’s forehead. It was still burning hot, but the fever seemed to be slowly subsiding, and Wei Zhenge had regained his consciousness.

“How are you feeling now?” Jian Yuanbai asked, “Are you thirsty? Do you need some water?”

Before Wei Zhenge could answer, Jian Yuanbai quickly fetched a cup of warm water from the water dispenser in the sick room, then raised the hospital bed, helping Wei Zhenge sit up.

He handed the water to Wei Zhenge, “I noticed that your mouth is very dry, have a sip.”

Wei Zhenge held the paper cup with one hand and took a sip. The warm water slid into his stomach, providing a hint of comfort to his still-shivering body.

Lowering his gaze, his voice was rather hoarse and not very loud, just enough for Jian Yuanbai to hear, “Thank you.”

Perhaps people who are sick become more vulnerable. Coupled with the fact that he had just dreamt of a scene from his childhood when his mother was still alive, Wei Zhenge felt a heavy tug at his heartstrings. His father, by blood, had never shown interest in him. Yet, a temporary guardian had helped him time and time again.

Jian Yuanbai: “Are you going to cry again?”

Seeing Wei Zhenge’s eyes turning red, Jian Yuanbai couldn’t help but feel anxious, “Don’t cry, come on, be good.”

Jian Yuanbai’s fatherly tone made Wei Zhenge feel slightly better, and he said, “I’m not crying.”

Looking at Wei Zhenge’s teary, beautiful face, Jian Yuanbai wanted to protest but was restrained by some inexplicable intuition.

Wei Zhenge, uncomfortable under Jian Yuanbai’s gaze, decided to tell him everything he’d withheld for the past few days, “Please, don’t look at me like that.”

Blinking, Jian Yuanbai asked in bafflement, “Like what?”

Annoyed by Jian Yuanbai’s gaze, Wei Zhenge clenched his teeth and said, “Like you’re looking at your son.”

Jian Yuanbai was wronged, but he couldn’t express his grievances to a sick person. Instead, he complained to the System, “Why is he like that?”

“I treat him like my son, but Wei Zhenge won’t allow me to look at him with a fatherly gaze. His demands are unreasonable.”

The System sneered, “Don’t say things you wouldn’t say to Wei Zhenge to me either.”

Why should it be the one to suffer? Doesn’t the System have rights too?

Having suffered two blows within a minute, Jian Yuanbai’s wrongful look was almost palpable. Even though he didn’t say anything out loud, Wei Zhenge inexplicably sensed his hidden meaning from his gaze.

Jian Yuanbai, who had once thought to be unapproachable and aloof, led Wei Zhen Ge to question his judgment – was his mind muddled all along?

Wei Zhenge had a solemn expression on his face, knowing that he must clarify things. He decided to reason with Jian Yuanbai, “Look, my biological father is like that. If you do this, it will only remind me of him. Do you want me to think of Wei Chengye every time I see you?”

“Besides, you’re just my guardian for this year. You’re so young, you can only be considered my older brother at most. I respect you, and I will repay you in the future. I really don’t have any interest in having one more father.”

Jian Yuanbai furrowed his eyebrows, remaining silent with a heavy expression. Wei Zhenge thought Jian Yuanbai had listened and was pondering, so he didn’t speak either.

However, Jian Yuanbai’s silence lasted too long, so long that Wei Zhenge couldn’t help but ask, “What are you thinking about?”

“I’m wondering how you could possibly think of Wei Chengye’s old, wrinkled face when you see me, who is so good-looking,” Jian Yuanbai replied with a very serious and confused expression. “That’s just not possible.”

Even though Wei Zhenge usually had good self-control, at this moment, he wanted to curse.

He really wanted to, and it was hard to restrain himself. Jian Yuanbai’s focus was always confused and angered Wei Zhenge.

Perhaps because Wei Zhenge looked exceptionally upset, Jian Yuanbai finally noticed the murderous gaze directed at himself. “I won’t think about being your father anymore. A forcefully picked melon is not sweet, and a forcefully acknowledged son is not close, right?”

He hesitated before asking, “Can I call you Xiao Zhen Tou then?”

Relieved that he wouldn’t have to recognize another father, Wei Zhenge easily agreed, “Yes, but just calling me Zhen Tou would be better.”

Jian Yuanbai conveniently ignored the latter part and gently called out, “Xiao Zhen Tou.”

Wei Zhenge’s heart skipped a beat. The next second, Jian Yuanbai said, “I brought Fu Pengyi and the others to the hospital.”

Wei Zhenge was surprised that Jian Yuanbai would bring Fu Pengyi to the hospital. Meanwhile, the system, which somewhat understood Jian Yuanbai’s character, asked, “Why do you call him Xiao Zhen Tou?”

Jian Yuanbai said, “It’s a nickname I came up with for him. It sounds nice, doesn’t it?”

System: “Hmm, I knew it.”

“What do you mean by that ‘hmm’? Doesn’t it sound good?” Jian Yuanbai defended himself, “I put a lot of thought into it.”

But no matter how loudly he called the system, it didn’t respond anymore.

At that moment, Wei Zhenge asked, “Why did you bring them here?”

Jian Yuanbai touched his nose guiltily, deciding to try and divert the subject, “You must be very angry with them for what they did to you. I brought them here so you could scold them. If you have anything to say, just speak up.”

The lines given by the system must be what Wei Zhenge would say in that situation. The only reason Wei Zhenge hadn’t said them earlier was because he had fainted.

Even though Jian Yuanbai found those words to be rather cheesy, since making threats was Wei Zhenge’s hobby, he should respect even this insignificant hobby.

Wei Zhenge, however, just looked away indifferently, “I don’t have much to say. You can let them go.”

“You wanted me to… bring them here, and…” Jian Yuanbai’s words trailed off, disbelief written all over his face, “You have nothing to say?”

Wei Zhenge simply replied, “Mhm.”

Jian Yuanbai was deeply hurt by Wei Zhenge’s simple affirmation, “How could you have nothing to say? You should point at their noses and say: Today, you rely on the Fu family’s power and outnumber me to ridicule me, but I swear I will crush the Fu family’s gates someday.”

Wei Zhenge slowly turned his head, looking at Jian Yuanbai’s astonished face and forcing a smile before patting his shoulder, “You should…”

“Read fewer cheesy novels.”

Jian Yuanbai and Wei Zhenge stared at each other, Jian Yuanbai took in Wei Zhenge’s complex expression and feeling his own honor besmirched; he indignantly shouted in his heart, “It’s him who likes those cheesy things, not me! How could Long Aotian be like this!”

However, the system still ignored him. Jian Yuanbai, who couldn’t comprehend it, insisted on trying to get through to Wei Zhenge, “Isn’t this what you like? This is how you talk.”

Wei Zhenge shook his head, denying it before patting Jian Yuanbai’s shoulder again, “Jian-ge, there’s nothing shameful about having a passion for cheesy stuff even in your twenties, but you don’t have to pass the blame onto me.”

Jian Yuanbai felt like he had taken a huge blow, his mind scattered and muttering to himself, “That shouldn’t be it…”

Wei Zhenge struggled to find the words to describe his complex emotions. After all, puncturing Jian Yuanbai’s cheesy bubble shouldn’t have dealt him such a huge blow, right?

Jian Yuanbai thought for a while and was suddenly struck by the word “humiliation” that Wei Zhenge had said earlier – his eyes lit up. He realized that Wei Zhenge, as a teenager, was too embarrassed to admit his little hobby.

“Xiao Zhen Tou, you’re right. I admit that I’m the one with a thing for cheesy stuff.”

As the day was drawing to an end, Jian Yuanbai reluctantly accepted the blame, almost in tears. He felt so wronged, having never suffered this kind of injustice in his life.

“Soon, I’ll call Fu Pengyi and the others in. Remember to say those words to them.”

Taking a deep breath and feeling incredibly defeated but still holding back his upset feelings, Jian Yuanbai said, “Please, just fulfill this one wish of mine, alright?”

The last two words had a heavy, almost pleading undertone, making Wei Zhenge even more incredulous.

Even though his resilience was legendary, Wei Zhenge adamantly refused:

“Actually…”

“Jian ge, you could wish for something else.”

The moment he heard these words, Wei Zhenge could only mask his disappointment with an emotionless facade. Despite everything, he still wanted to face the likes of Fu Pengyi with unwavering pride and head held high.

Unexpectedly, the system chimed in: “Although I usually believe that speech is generally ineffective if not spoken in the right situations, at a time like this, you could make Wei Zhenge repay you through this manner for saving him. With his personality, he won’t refuse.”

Jian Yuanbai hesitated, “Won’t this be taking advantage of him?”

The system responded with profound implications, “You’re not harming him. Maybe this is what Wei Zhenge wants to express, but he’s too shy. Isn’t this just providing him with a step-down?”

It definitely needed to capture this hilariously intriguing scene. Deep down, Jian Yuanbai was certain that Wei Zhenge had already labeled himself as a martyr of adolescent syndrome.

Jian Yuanbai assisted the system, giving it a helping hand. Since the host’s active participation was necessary for Wei Zhenge to confess, it was apparent that he wouldn’t say it himself.

Otherwise, why would he need assistance?

Jian Yuanbai was clueless about the dark twists and turns in the system’s thoughts. Suddenly, his mind cleared, and he acknowledged, “You’re right. It’s no wonder you’re the one.”

“You once mentioned repaying me in the future, right? I don’t need a future favor. Just say those words to Fu Pengyi and the others. That would be enough.” Jian Yuanbai spoke to Wei Zhenge with an expression that didn’t allow refusal.

If the goal was to let Wei Zhenge maintain his self-esteem without admitting his petty hobby, his tone needed to be more stern. It would make “Xiao Zhen Tou” look forced.

No doubt about it, the way he deduced things from one observation was commendable.

Wei Zhenge blankly stared at the needle in his hand, calculating the odds of passing out after pulling it out. Despite his desperate thoughts, the result added up to zero.

Why did he wake up? He should have stayed unconscious.

With things already coming to this point, Wei Zhenge couldn’t refuse Jian Yuanbai.

In the hospital hallway, Fu Pengyi and his companions, bored from the long wait, were finally informed by Jian Yuanbai to enter.

Fu Pengyi, with a dark expression, retorted in a forceful tone, “He has awakened, can we leave now?”

Jian Yuanbai interjected, “Wait a minute, Wei Zhenge has something to say.”

Fu Pengyi’s departing footsteps paused. “Spit it out if you have something to say, fart if you need to fart.”

The gazes of four people bore into him. Wei Zhenge struggled with the difficulty of speaking under their scrutiny. He stuttered, nearly whispering as if to a fly, “Today… I… I… came… I… “

Jian Yuanbai was becoming anxious. The voice was too held back, almost shameful. Wei Zhenge, who clearly had such a small hobby was too embarrassed to reveal it. Jian Yuanbai decided he had to help him.

More importantly, the system’s mandate continued echoing in Jian Yuanbai’s mind: to be emotionally engaging and speak with a powerful voice.

Jian Yuanbai moved closer, whispering into Wei Zhenge’s ears, “Speak louder, don’t be afraid, say it with full emotional power.”

Wei Zhenge couldn’t bear to look into his eyes. Is he supposed to be all emotional now, like some part-time language teacher?

Moments ago, he was sitting up, casually drinking water, chatting. Now Wei Zhenge feels out of breath. “Jian ge, I have a fever and my throat really hurts.”

He switched over to a whispering tone and even coughed a few times for effect.

Jian Yuanbai wore a grim expression and stood up. He glanced at Fu Pengyi and the others, then turned his gaze again to Wei Zhenge, “Wait, here. Everyone wait here in the room.”

Fu Pengyi retorted, “Why the hell—”

“I’ll delete the video when I return,” Jian Yuanbai interrupted, his comment silencing Fu Pengyi. “If you dare lay a finger on Wei Zhenge, you’re done.”

Saying this, he quickly rushed out of the ward.

Back in his hospital bed, Wei Zhenge took a deep breath of relief. His tense spirit immediately relaxed.

I dodged a bullet, he thought.

…

Twenty minutes later, a winded Jian Yuanbai rushed into the ward. His facial expression seemed to say: “Surprise!” As he presented to Wei Zhenge a megaphone that he fished out from behind, “Surprise or not, I ran three blocks to get this. Now you can say whatever you want, really loudly.”

Wei Zhenge’s face remained expressionless as he watched him.

Surprise, he thought. What a delightful surprise.

Translator’s Footnotes:

系統無法忍受 (xìtǒng wúfǎ rěnshòu): This phrase, meaning ‘the System couldn’t endure,’ indicates the System’s resistance to Jian Yuanbai’s actions, as well as the inner turmoil that the System experiences.

小枕頭 (Xiǎo Zhěn Tou): Literally means “Little Pillow”. In this context, it is a nickname Jian Yuanbai gave to Wei Zhenge. I have no idea why… LOL

有話快說,有屁就放 (You hua kuai shuo, you pi jiu fang): The phrase, when translated literally, means “If you have words, say them quickly. If you have a fart, let it out.” It signifies that if a person has something to say, they should just say it.

The system is plotting against Jian Yuanbai LOL

I can’t believe he brought back a megaphone! My belly is hurting from laughing ღවꇳවღ
