The man in the white shirt glanced at Xia Chenxi and said, “During this crisis of life and death, let’s not worry about these small things.”

Xia Chenxi felt a faint discomfort in his heart. He frowned but didn’t speak; instead, he avoided these two people.

The man in the white shirt was stunned for a moment; he didn’t expect that Xia Chenxi would walk away so nonchalantly. A hint of displeasure rose in his heart.

He didn’t look for Xia Chenxi again this time, but instead, like Xia Chenxi, he stood in apartment 410 searching for some clues.

At this moment, Xia Chenxi had found a clean place to start sorting out the current clues.

If he followed the logic of reality, there was definitely a reason for the monster attacking apartment 409 and only killing one of them.

But the two surviving residents said that the person who was killed did nothing and died inexplicably.

The probability of these two people lying wasn’t high.

Because…

When faced with such a powerful and terrifying monster while stuck in a room, most people would scream in fear, lifting their arms in an attempt to protect themselves.

Only a few people would launch a counterattack.

But when Xia Chenxi advanced to apartment 409, he found that in addition to the body on the ground, there were also several self-defense tools that were far away from the body.

Most importantly, these four tools showed no signs of damage or attack.

It could be seen from this that the three of them didn’t resist with weapons at all.

Most importantly, the monster had been in apartments 406 and 409, which were both occupied.

However, in the previous apartments, the monster didn’t attack anyone.

In the latter, however, it killed one person.

All of this seemed very unreasonable.

However, if he considered everything strange and unreasonable in front of him as an escape horror game…

Then there was a logical explanation for this strange behavior.

Xia Chenxi suspected that all of this was because the door of apartment 410 wasn’t locked, which led to the accident that occurred later.

The only difference between the two apartments with people present was that the monster successfully opened the door that was locked.

That was apartment 410.

The door wasn’t locked this time, so it entered smoothly.

Therefore, it had a chance to kill someone, which could explain why there were three people inside the house but only one person died.

But there was still one doubt: the reason hadn’t been found yet.

Xia Chenxi suddenly thought of something and quickly found the residents gathered together, asking, “Does anyone know which apartment the deceased was from?”

Xia Chenxi’s words stirred up the spirits of all the panicked and pessimistic people, and they quickly gathered around to ask, “Have you found any useful clues?”

“Answer me first,” Xia Chenxi said.

No one deliberately caused trouble at this moment and insisted on asking Xia Chenxi; instead, they all cooperated and recalled, but to no avail.

Finally, they decided to self-report their apartment numbers and use exclusion to find the answer.

Starting with the first apartment on the fourth floor.

Someone asked, “So who is the resident of apartment 401?”

The crowd was silent.

They all looked at each other. After several seconds, no one stepped out.

Xia Chenxi suddenly understood something.

The monster attacked an even-numbered apartment door every hour and killed the residents of the apartment.

But if the target to be killed wasn’t found, the monster would give up killing and disappear.

On the contrary, when the door wasn’t locked and the monster smoothly entered the room, even if it didn’t see the target that needed to be killed, it still had a chance to do so.

And this murder order was likely to be based on the apartment numbers of the residents.

Therefore, the resident of apartment 401 died.

But the trouble was that there were a total of ten apartments on the fourth floor, with only five even-numbered rooms. The monster had entered or attacked all the even-numbered apartments.

There were only a few odd-numbered rooms left.

So next, would the monster attack odd-numbered or even-numbered apartments?

Xia Chenxi’s unease grew even greater.

Next, everything would be unknown.

The information he just found was highly likely to be of no use.

At this point, many people had already realized something.

Since no one came forward to claim the apartment, it meant that the one who died in apartment 409 was the resident of apartment 401.

Suddenly, the white-shirted man who realized this rushed forward to beat the resident of apartment 410, wishing he could kill him.

The others were startled and quickly went over to pull them away after realizing it.

“Why did you hit someone?”

“It’s already like this; why fight someone now?”

Several residents accused the white-shirted man.

However, the resident of apartment 410 was unprepared at the time and fell to the ground in a whirlwind, unable to stand up at all.

The man in the white shirt was like a trapped beast, gritting his teeth as he spoke, “What do you know? If it weren’t for him not locking his door back then, that monster wouldn’t have attacked apartment 409. Now it’s over; we’re all done!”

“It’s all over!!”

The people who were originally criticizing the man were immediately stunned when they heard this; their expressions changed several times and finally turned into uncertainty. “What do you mean by this?”

The man in the white shirt broke free from the hands of the others and sneered, “Use your brain. Why didn’t that monster kill the people in apartment 406 before? It’s because all those rooms were locked before; only apartment 410 wasn’t locked.”

“No, there was no one in room 408, and I didn’t see any other apartment having an accident.” Someone raised a question.

The man in the white shirt felt even more that these people were foolish and didn’t want to waste his anger on them. “Didn’t you see a hole in the door of apartment 408? Only apartment 410 doesn’t have one!”

Everyone finally realized that apartment 410 was the only place that the monster had entered without the door being damaged.

They fell silent, and then someone whispered, “So what are we going to do next? Are all the apartments unsafe?”

“We can’t beat that monster at all. There’s still no signal, and there’s nothing we can do to ask for help. Will we die here?”

Xia Chenxi remained silent.

There was a hint of regret in his heart.

He never expected that after smoothly entering the house, the strange person would still have a chance to kill.

At that time, the resident of apartment 410 should have been instructed to lock the door.

But it was useless to just regret it.

Someone looked at Xia Chenxi with a hint of hope and asked, “Do you have any other way?”

Xia Chenxi pursed his lips and said, “I’m sorry, there’s nothing I can do.”

No matter which room it was, there may be danger.

The light in the eyes of many residents dimmed.

Someone suddenly erupted under the extreme silence, “It’s really not possible. Let’s fight that monster. With so many people together, we can kill it.”

“Kill, kill?” Someone trembled.

The other party said, “That monster is clearly not human. If we don’t kill it, it will kill us. This is a legitimate defense; what’s wrong with that?”

Others also gritted their teeth and made decisions in this desperate atmosphere.

“If it doesn’t die, we’ll die. Fight!”

Some of the residents were afraid that they might not be able to counterattack and instead be killed directly.

Instead of doing that, it was better to hide and bet that they wouldn’t be the first ones to be killed by that monster.

Maybe they could survive until the black fog disappeared outside.

The man in the white shirt also had this idea, but on the surface, he pretended to be like other people whose emotions had been stirred up with a desperate attitude towards the strange person.

The remaining few people were even more afraid to speak their hearts when they saw the situation. Before the monster killed them, they might even be stabbed to death by the desperate residents first.

The resident of apartment 410, who had been beaten up by the man in the white shirt, recovered and looked at the white shirt man with hatred. Finally, he reluctantly withdrew his gaze and chose to endure all of this.

Soon, everyone went to all the apartments again to find tools that could kill.

Some people sharpened their kitchen knives with the handle and iron rod intertwined so they could use them as weapons.

Someone also broke the fire cabinet and got the ax.

The few girls present all found some lighter weapons to hold in their hands.

At present, Xia Chenxi couldn’t think of a solution and could only find weapons to defend himself like the others.

“Do we still need to lock the other rooms that are unoccupied?”

Someone asked.

Others: “Lock it up, just in case.”

Xia Chenxi didn’t speak, still thinking about something.

Another hour quickly arrived.

Everyone was divided into groups of three and hid in different rooms. If the monster really started attacking a certain room, everyone had to come out to help surround the monster.

A male resident in his thirties glanced at everyone and said, “I know there may be people who don’t plan to come out and help, but don’t forget that once others die, the rest of the people have even less chance to resist. They can only wait for death and can’t take any more chances.”

The eyes of the people whose thoughts were exposed flickered, but they pretended to be calm.

At this point, all the empty apartments in the corridor had been locked, leaving only a few rooms that would be used to hide.

At this moment, Xia Chenxi was hiding in apartment 406, in a group with two other residents. These two residents were in an extremely tense state. They held their weapons tightly and leaned against the door, carefully listening to the movements outside.

The corridor was silent.

Xia Chenxi lowered his eyes, his expression was calm, but his eyebrows subconsciously furrowed, as if troubled by something he couldn’t understand.

Then the familiar sound of chains could be heard in the hallway, in less than a second, the sound of the door breaking suddenly rang out, and from afar came the heart wrenching cries of the residents for help: “We are in apartment 402, come and save us.”

Xia Chenxi suddenly lifted his head, and the other two were stunned for a moment. Seeing this, Xia Chenxi quickly turned the door handle and rushed out.

The two of them reacted and rushed out quickly.

At the same time, several other room doors suddenly opened.

However, as soon as they took a few steps, they heard an extremely brutal sound coming from apartment 402.

“Ah –! Don’t come over, don’t come over!”

Several voices suddenly came to a sudden halt.

The corridor once again fell silent.

All of this happened too quickly, and all the residents standing in the hallway looked extremely frightened, realizing that the people in apartment 402 were likely dead.

There were three residents in that room, all young men with weapons, and in less than three seconds, they all died?!!

Immediately after, a slender leg appeared outside apartment 402, indicating that the strange person was about to come out, and the sound of chains also sounded.

Someone had already backed down; he quickly retracted their feet and closed the door, hopefully thinking, What if the monster didn’t kill again?

Xia Chenxi realized that it was too late to save them now, and running out was even more dangerous. He quickly dragged the two people back to the apartment and locked the door.

Those two people were so scared that they trembled all over and couldn’t stand still.

At this moment, everyone was frightened by the sudden incident, and their faces turned pale, but they had to stick to the door and carefully monitor the outside movement.

In apartment 407, the least daring resident tightly covered his mouth and dared not cry. His spirit was like a tense thread, ready to shatter at any moment.

The sound of chains still echoed in the corridor.

Then, the sound of breaking through the door came again, and the mournful screams of two men came. In less than two seconds, it came to an abrupt end.

They didn’t have a chance to call for help until the moment they died.

Everyone was so scared that their brains went blank, their hands and feet were cold, and they couldn’t believe the sound they had just heard.

The strange person was still killing!!

Immediately after, there was a familiar sound of the door breaking, and once again, there was a mournful scream coming from inside the room.

The atmosphere of terror gradually spread.

Xia Chenxi understood that he couldn’t wait any longer.

That strange person had already started killing people recklessly. If all the residents hid inside and refused to come out, then with one person after another’s death, everyone would die here by then.

After Xia Chenxi realized this, he became frightened. But he still firmly grasped the door handle and whispered to the two people next to him, “Let’s go out and save them.”

The two of them shook their heads wildly and suppressed their voices, trembling as they whispered, “If we go out, we will definitely die. You heard the people outside shout, and then there was no movement.”

Of course Xia Chenxi knew, “But that strange person is about to arrive in apartment 406, and we will die if we don’t go out.”

Both of them knew that Xia Chenxi was right and nodded in fear.

Immediately after, one of them trembled and said, “But just the three of us won’t be able to beat it.”

“So after going out, make sure to repeat what I just said. Everyone is not foolish and will understand that if they want to survive, they can only come out to help.” Xia Chenxi earnestly instructed the two of them.

The two of them nodded eagerly; their brains were unable to think normally due to extreme fear, so they instinctively followed what Xia Chenxi said.

They didn’t have a choice anymore.
