As the crisis with resident 408 ended, the next target would be resident 410.

Someone looked around and asked, “Who is the resident in apartment 410?”

A slightly chubby man raised his hand, and his voice shook as he spoke, “I am.”

At this moment, everyone’s emotions were relatively good; although their expressions were tense, they had already passed the most fearful time.

Taking advantage of the next hour, everyone chose to return to their homes and grab a meal.

It was already noon, and most people hadn’t had breakfast and were already starving.

During this time, someone lifted the curtains and looked outside.

The outside was still shrouded in black fog, with no visible light.

The whole city was silent, as if only the people on their fourth floor were still alive.

He couldn’t help but shudder and quickly suppressed this terrible illusion, covering the curtains tightly before returning to the kitchen.

Xia Chenxi also returned to his room and hastily ate a few compressed biscuits that could fill his stomach.

Then he sat on the sofa, seemingly pondering something.

Then there was a knock at the door. Xia Chenxi checked and found that it was the resident of apartment 406. He stood at the door with a reserved but grateful expression and said, “Thank you very much for saving me before.”

Xia Chenxi said truthfully, “There is no need to thank me. I saved you to save myself.”

Resident 406 was stunned for a moment, then understood something. “No matter what, thank you very much.”

Xia Chenxi nodded. “I accept your gratitude. Do you have anything else to say?”

The other party quickly shook his head and left.

Xia Chenxi usually didn’t rush people like this, but now his mood was a bit bad as he constantly thought about the clues he overlooked.

However, the more he thought about it, the more he lost track of time.

After sitting there for about a few minutes, Xia Chenxi glanced at the phone that had been placed on the tea table in his spare time, then took it and logged into the game.

On the screen, the little man was still sleeping with his eyes closed, and his face was much better than before.

Suddenly, Xia Chenxi didn’t know why he still wanted to open this game.

The black fog invasion mentioned in this game was completely unrelated to the real black fog; it was just a coincidence.

Xia Chenxi sighed, then put away his phone and put it back in his pocket.

Time flew by quickly.

About forty to fifty minutes later, everyone walked out of the room one after another, disrupting their order and going to other rooms.

At the same time, everyone tacitly avoided those dangerous rooms; no one chose to enter any of them.

A group of two or three people were assigned to stay in the same room.

However, Xia Chenxi and the residents of apartments 406 and 410 stayed in separate apartments because no one was sure if that monster would still try to kill these people again.

It was safer to avoid them.

Xia Chenxi closed the door and stood against the wall. He chose not to stare at the door through his cat’s eyes again.

About ten minutes later, at exactly an hour, a strange sound of chains could be faintly heard in the hallway.

Xia Chenxi’s thoughts were scattered, and suddenly a thought appeared.

Why did this strange person have to kill according to the room number? Its ability was extremely terrifying; it could completely kill everyone at once.

But it only showed up at even-numbered times like 8:00 and 9:00 and only killed the occupant of its chosen apartment.

And it also killed according to the pattern of even apartment numbers.

It was like an escape horror game; even the most powerful ghosts or monsters had to follow the rules set in the game when chasing and killing players.

Otherwise, players wouldn’t be able to survive.

At the same time, this also made it more interesting and enhanced the gameplay.

But the problem was that this was the real world, not a designed game.

As the sound of chains approached, Xia Chenxi suppressed the thoughts that had just diverged and carefully listened to the movements outside.

Soon the sound of chains drew nearer, Xia Chenxi got nervous when it was only a door away, then the clattering continued, eventually fading away.

A few seconds later, the sound of the chain suddenly disappeared.

It was quiet outside; there was no sound at all.

The corridor was silent.

Xia Chenxi showed a puzzled expression. Why didn’t he hear the sound of the strange person destroying the door?

Xia Chenxi hesitated for a moment, but instead of observing the outside through his cat’s eye, he remained quiet.

About a few seconds later, the sound of chains rang out in the hallway again, followed by a familiar knocking sound. It was then accompanied by the sound of it breaking the door and several screams of fear.

Xia Chenxi’s expression slightly changed.

The monster actually attacked the door of another apartment; now he could only bet that the monster wouldn’t harm others, just like the previous two times.

Quickly, the screams came to an abrupt end, and the sound of chains echoed again in the hallway before finally disappearing.

Although everyone was eager to know what was happening outside, no one ran out.

But after waiting for about ten minutes to confirm that the strange person had completely disappeared, a sudden cry came from the corridor: “Dead! Dead!”

After hearing these words, Xia Chenxi’s expression slightly changed.

Sure enough, something really happened.

He quickly opened the door and saw two people kneeling in the corridor.

Both of them were covered in blood, as if they were injured, but if one looked closely, you could see that the blood on these two people seemed to have been sprayed on their clothes.

In addition, Xia Chenxi noticed that the door of apartment 409 seemed to have been damaged.

But room 410 was intact.

How could it be?

He walked into the room, his pupils slightly contracting.

Shredded limbs were scattered on the floor, and blood stained the clothes and corpse.

The other person’s head was lying crooked on the cold floor, with widened pupils and a frightened expression.

Even at the moment of his death, it was obvious that he was sure he wouldn’t be killed and dismembered by that monster.

Xia Chenxi silently withdrew.

At this moment, all the other doors also opened, and the residents hurriedly ran out. They also noticed the opening of the door to apartment 409, and when they saw the corpse inside, their legs felt like jelly on the ground.

A small scream sounded.

Everyone quickly exited the room, feeling a bit panicked and uneasy, but more importantly, puzzled.

“How can this be?!”

“Wasn’t it said that it would only attack the resident in apartment 410? How did that person die?”

But now the one who died was actually one of the residents hiding in apartment 409.

This was completely different from the previous few times.

What was even more strange was that the strange person didn’t kill the three people in the room but instead let two of them go.

Someone racked their brains to find the reason and gave a possibility: “Could it be something that that person did at the time stimulated that monster, so it chose to kill that person?”

“It’s possible.”

In this way, any information from these two survivors was particularly important.

Everyone’s gaze fell on these two people, but now their expressions were frightened and confused, as if they couldn’t recover from the scene just now.

They could also understand since this was different from the previous scene of seeing a dismembered body. These two people witnessed the strange person kill someone with their own eyes, and this scene was naturally extremely terrifying and stimulating.

Even those who were timid could go crazy directly.

Fortunately, after a few minutes, the two finally recovered, and one of them stuttered and said, “The three of us stayed quietly inside the house. No one did anything; I don’t know why he was killed.”

“A lot of blood sprayed on my face,” he recalled the scene and couldn’t help but whimper softly. “That scene was too scary. The chains wrapped around his limbs and body, and he was twisted to pieces.”

Everyone’s face turned pale upon hearing this, and the scene flashed in their minds.

The man in the white shirt asked again, “Are you sure that resident didn’t do anything at that time?”

“I’m sure.” This person couldn’t help but shed tears, trembling uncontrollably with fear.

The man in the white shirt had an even more unsightly expression.

The man in the floral shirt couldn’t help but curse a few words in a low voice, as if he wanted to vent his fear in this way.

All the clues were messed up.

No one could protect themselves like before; how could they survive in the face of such a terrible monster?

After listening to those two people, Xia Chenxi arrived at the entrance of apartment 410. The door was open, and the room wasn’t damaged by any attack.

Xia Chenxi walked in and confirmed that there was no damage inside the house.

It seemed that no useful information had been found.

But these were already enough.

He had a vague guess.

The man in the white shirt had been paying extra attention to Xia Chenxi and followed over, asking, “What did you find?”

Xia Chenxi pursed his lips slightly and didn’t say anything, as there was no need to say it anymore. Instead, it might make everyone focus their resentment on the resident of apartment 410.

The most important thing now was how to make everyone, including himself, survive as much as possible.

The man in the white shirt noticed that Xia Chenxi didn’t answer, and a hint of displeasure appeared on his face. “If you find something, tell all of us. Let’s work together to find a solution. Even if you”re the only one who knows, you may not be able to beat that monster, right?”

Xia Chenxi looked at the man in the white shirt and seemed to be wondering why he thought so. He replied, “I didn’t find anything; I was just thinking that since the monster killed the resident in apartment 409, it means that all the apartments are no longer safe.”

The man in the white shirt seemed a bit skeptical.

The nearby resident happened to hear Xia Chenxi talking to the man in a white shirt and couldn’t help but speak up, “But I can’t figure out why the strange person went to apartment 409. Wasn’t he supposed to go to apartment 410?”

Xia Chenxi remained silent and then said, “Sorry, I don’t know.”

The resident became a bit anxious and spoke with a hint of complaint in his tone: “You said the strange person wouldn’t attack apartment 410, but now it’s bad luck. The person in apartment 409 was unlucky, and we don’t know who’ll be next.”

It seemed that all of this was subconsciously attributed to Xia Chenxi.

Xia Chenxi suddenly lifted his head, and his gaze became extremely cold.

The resident was suddenly speechless and instinctively lowered his head to avoid Xia Chenxi’s gaze.

Xia Chenxi withdrew his gaze, and no one could hear any emotions in his voice. “I’ve never said anything like that before, and I hope you don’t blame anyone else for this.”

The resident was speechless and tried to justify himself: “I was just too scared; I don’t really think it’s your fault.”

Xia Chenxi said, “You’re not the only one who’s afraid; I’m also afraid.”

The resident’s face turned even redder, wishing he could crawl through the cracks in the ground.
