I Fed The Affectionate And Paranoid God - Chapter 5
It seemed that the deceased was indeed the resident of this room.
Xia Chenxi turned the key and pushed open the door.
Although it wasn’t good to enter someone else’s room rashly, given the special situation now, Xia Chenxi had to find out the similarities between the resident in apartment 402 and the second resident who was killed.
That monster was definitely not a random killer. Xia Chenxi remembered very well that this monster purposefully ran towards the apartment and launched an attack after confirming that there was someone inside.
The most convincing reason for this was that it could have chosen the nearest apartment as it walked down the corridor.
At this moment, the resident across from door 402 happened to walk out of the house and was stunned when he saw Xia Chenxi standing at the door. “How did you open the door?”
Xia Chenxi turned his head and glanced at the other person. “I found it in the pocket of the corpse in the hallway.”
This person had no idea that Xia Chenxi was so brave, daring to search for the key in the bloody corpse. His scalp immediately tingled.
Others heard the commotion and walked out one after another.
One of them suddenly said, “So, the hallway corpse is the resident of apartment 402?”
But others were even more puzzled: “But why did he die in the hallway?”.
“Perhaps it was because he happened to be going out and was unlucky enough to be killed.”
“No matter what the reason for his murder is, let’s leave the apartment as soon as possible.”
They didn’t want to stay here for a moment.
Xia Chenxi looked around the apartment but couldn’t find any useful clues. Then, as if he had thought of something, he quickly walked back to the room opposite the door.
This was the second resident room that had been targeted and dismembered, and his gaze fell on the open door.
He closed the door and glanced at the sign.
[404]
At first glance, the two apartment numbers didn’t appear to have any similar correlation, but the numbers were exactly double.
Was the next person to be killed in apartment 406?
Xia Chenxi wasn’t sure.
At this point, all the people who were preparing to leave had gathered and were holding self-defense tools, walking in the direction of the elevator.
Some people said that if an elevator accident occurred, they would be trapped inside, so it was better to take the stairs.
But some people also said that if they took the stairs, they might encounter the monster that was hiding.
After weighing the pros and cons, these people ultimately chose to go to the elevator.
After arriving at the elevator, due to the weight limit, only up to five people were allowed to get in, and the remaining three people had to wait for the next round.
At this moment, no one would intentionally cause trouble. The five people closest to the elevator entered the elevator one after another in tacit agreement, maintaining silence throughout the entire process.
The three people, who were one step slower, stayed in place, anxiously waiting.
No one dared to make a noise.
Quickly, the elevator moved, indicating a descent from the 4th floor to the 1st floor and then an upward movement from the 1st floor.
The elevator door opened.
People outside and inside the elevator stared at each other.
The scene was quiet for a while.
Residents outside the elevator were anxious, but the five people inside were even more terrified and anxious.
“Why don’t you go out when you reach the first floor?” said one of the residents outside the elevator, with a tone that seemed somewhat resentful.
An observer noticed that the faces of the five people in the elevator were not right and immediately asked the others to remain quiet. Then they asked, “What happened when you went down?”
One of the people standing in the elevator spoke, “We were supposed to be on the first floor when we got down, but for some reason the elevator didn’t stop and kept descending. When the elevator finally stopped and opened, we saw you all.”
After speaking, he suddenly felt a little scared and said, “Shouldn’t it be an evil elevator? Otherwise, why would it keep descending and still be on the fourth floor?”
They never felt the elevator stop from start to finish.
“Impossible; we all saw the elevator indicating that you arrived on the first floor.” A resident who had been paying attention to the elevator floor didn’t believe this explanation. “You come out; the rest of us will go in.”
The five people inside the elevator all walked out, and they all felt that there was something sinister about the elevator. It didn’t seem like it was caused by a malfunction.
The remaining three people walked in and pressed the button to close the elevator door.
The elevator continued to run, and everyone stared at the display screen. It showed that the elevator was descending smoothly and finally arrived at the first floor.
Then, the elevator came up again.
The door opened and the people outside saw the three people inside, they all looked surprised.
Now everyone was in uproar.
The three people inside were also a bit scared and quickly walked out. The man wearing a short-sleeved shirt said after coming out, “The elevator never stopped from beginning to end. I saw the numbers inside showing that it didn’t stop until the first floor, but the elevator stopped on the fourth floor.”
The elevator really had a problem.
Everyone immediately moved away from the elevator.
The quiet elevator now seemed like a fierce ghost with a big mouth, ready to devour the residents at any moment.
Until someone’s voice rang out. “How about taking the stairs instead?”
“That’s all we can do.”
Everyone agreed to this proposal and returned from the elevator, just in time to meet the group of people who decided to stay.
After hearing about the eerie experience of the elevator, the residents who stayed couldn’t help but shiver and secretly warned themselves not to enter the elevator.
Soon, these eight people left again.
They arrived at the stairs and looked down at the winding staircase, each person holding their breath and concentrating on walking down, trying to make as little noise as possible.
They quickly walked to the third floor.
Then there was the second floor.
Finally, on the first floor, they saw the entrance of the hallway ahead. Everyone glanced at each other, and the person in charge took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
Immediately after, his expression became horrified, and he muttered, “This is impossible.”
He rushed in as if stimulated.
The door immediately closed.
The seven people standing in place immediately became nervous and dared not approach the door. After about two minutes, footsteps could be heard from above the corridor, and everyone became nervous and guarded until they saw the person running down.
They were all stunned.
This person was obviously the one who just ran out inexplicitly stimulated, but the question was, how could he come down from upstairs?
After seeing the seven people on the first floor, the person seemed to have finally determined something; he shouted impossible again and then ran down to open the door and rushed out.
Once again, there were seven of them left in the hallway.
This eerie scene made the seven of them both scared and confused, completely unaware of what had happened. One of the more daring people clenched his jaw and took the initiative to approach the hallway door, pushing open a small gap to look outside.
The person’s expression also became frightened.
At this point, he finally understood why the man had reacted so strongly and why he had somehow run down the stairs, even though he had left the building.
The outside of the door wasn’t the community garden shrouded in black mist, but a corner on the fourth floor.
He strode in and walked forward until he arrived at the hallway, where he saw the fourth-floor residents not far away.
For a moment, he was both bewildered and frightened.
If the incident in the elevator was caused by a malfunction, what about the staircase in front of him?
First floor.
The remaining six residents couldn’t hold back and entered the entrance one after another. When they saw the corner of the fourth floor, fear erupted.
“This is impossible! How could it be on the fourth floor?”
“I don’t believe it.”
Someone ran back again, wanting to try returning the same way to see if they could leave the apartment, but soon the person walked out of the door again.
There was a person who didn’t believe in evil. He didn’t run from the first floor to the fourth floor like others did, but he ran from the fourth floor to the third floor and pushed the door open.
As a result, he inexplicably returned to the fourth floor.
That was to say, no matter which way they went, they would always return to the fourth-floor corridor, or, in other words, they were trapped on the fourth floor, not to mention escaping this apartment; they couldn’t even go to other floors.
Because when they entered the door, it was always the fourth floor.
Quickly, all eight people gathered on the fourth floor, each with fear and unease on their faces.
“Let’s go back and gather with the other residents on the fourth floor. It seems we can’t leave the fourth floor anymore; we can only stay and fight against that monster with them.”
The male resident who was the first to see the body in the hallway was already trembling uncontrollably and said in a crying voice, “Is there no other way?”
Everyone remained silent.
Soon, the eight converged with other residents and told everyone that they couldn’t leave the fourth floor.
All the residents suddenly became restless, and no one wanted to believe it. It wasn’t until a few people went to the hallway and encountered the same thing that they finally believed, and their expressions became even more ugly.
This meant that their final retreat was no longer possible.
They could either wait for that monster to kill them or rise up in rebellion and nip the crisis in the bud.
Everyone chose the second one.
But the specific plan still needed further discussion. There were a total of 22 residents on the fourth floor, three of whom were girls.
A room with only one living room and one bathroom, where 22 people were hiding, would be very crowded and must be separated into two groups.
But most people expressed their unwillingness to separate and preferred to squeeze together, believing that this would be safer.
A man who was still in college couldn’t help but say, “You think it’ll be safe to have lots of people together? If that freak does break in, it’ll be too crowded to do anything, let alone resist; just wait to die.”
Xia Chenxi remained quiet throughout the entire discussion and didn’t participate. Instead, he took out his phone from his pocket, which showed that it was three minutes until exactly ten o’clock.
He became increasingly anxious and uneasy, feeling as if he had overlooked some clues and details.
Except for Xia Chenxi, the remaining 21 tenants ultimately agreed to the plan of dividing into two groups, but the division still needed further discussion.
It had been a while, yet the strange person never appeared. With so many people gathered here, it gave everyone a great sense of security.
Two minutes had passed, and they had almost formed their ranks. Just then, Xia Chenxi suddenly spoke, “Who stays in apartment 406?”
Everyone was stunned, looking at Xia Chenxi in confusion.
It seemed unclear why Xia Chenxi asked that at this moment.
“Who exactly is the resident in apartment 406?” Xia Chenxi asked again, with a hint of anxiety in his voice.
In the crowd, the boy with glasses trembled as he raised his hand, seeming to be infected by Xia Chenxi’s expression. He also became nervous. “I am.”
When Xia Chenxi wanted to say something more, he caught a glimpse of a tall and slender figure at the end of the corridor.
It stood there quietly, with a sly smile on its face, slowly lifting its hands and making a crazy dance posture before finally charging forward.
The iron chains made a piercing and rapid clattering sound on the floor, and everyone suddenly regained their senses. When they saw the strange spider-like figure, they each let out chaotic screams.
“Ah.”
“It’s here!”
“Run, hurry up, and run.”
