I Fed The Affectionate And Paranoid God - Chapter 12
The little man left the bedroom and closed the door.
But the game screen stopped in this bedroom, not following the movement of the little person.
Xia Chenxi poked at the bedroom door without getting any response.
Xia Chenxi frowned, feeling a bit confused.
He had played many games but had never played any games related to love development, so he didn’t know how to continue playing.
But he still remembered the message that popped up at the beginning of this game, which was that it aimed to cultivate love, and the entire game was obviously centered around this character.
Xia Chenxi didn’t know the game maker’s purpose for making this game and could only try to get to the bottom of it for the time being.
This game wouldn’t keep him in this room all the time; he had to try and find a way to open the door.
For example, reaching a certain achievement or finding something like a key.
So, Xia Chenxi poked everything in the bedroom, not even leaving out the crevices on the floor.
But still, he was unable to engage in any interaction.
Considering that this mobile game was different from other games, Xia Chenxi chose to be cautious and wait.
In order not to miss any important information, Xia Chenxi didn’t exit the game; he just let the game temporarily run in the background for easy access at any time.
The night was getting darker.
Xia Chenxi began to feel a wave of drowsiness, but he was afraid to yawn due to the back injury. He adjusted his posture and half leaned on the pillow. His consciousness gradually became hazy.
In the latter half of the night, a few residents couldn’t bear the pain and couldn’t fall asleep. They simply kept their eyes open and watched the night, occasionally turning their heads to look at the end of the corridor.
If that freak appeared, they’d immediately shout to wake everyone up and run away.
But that night, the scene that these people were worried about didn’t appear. The corridor was quiet, and it was unclear whether it was because they had taken antibiotics. Most residents only had a slightly higher body temperature and didn’t reach the level of a high fever or fainting.
The most severely injured resident, if not treated as soon as possible, may not be able to survive the last day.
At this point, all the residents had already woken up, and their first thing was to flip out their phones and confirm if there was a signal.
Unfortunately, both the signal and the WiFi showed that they couldn’t be connected.
Most residents quickly fell into a state of depression and despair, even though there was sufficient water and food on the fourth floor—enough to support them for at least half a month.
But this sense of isolation and being surrounded by corpses were constantly tormenting everyone.
At 9 o’clock in the morning, the uninjured resident cooked egg noodles for everyone and also added a handful of vegetables.
After everyone finished eating, their emotions eased a bit. At this moment, someone couldn’t help but say, “Do you guys really think that freak won’t appear?”
“It most likely won’t appear, but what’s the use? We’re still stuck here and can’t get out.” The temper of the man in the flowery shirt seemed even more irritable, like a cartridge that could ignite at any moment, and if one wasn’t careful, it would explode.
Everyone remained silent in agreement.
At such times, no one was willing to argue, especially when everyone was physically and mentally exhausted. It was better to conserve energy and wait for the black fog to disappear.
But they weren’t sure if the black fog would disappear.
The man in the flowery shirt seemed even more irritable when no one answered him. “Why aren’t you guys talking? Are you all mute?”
Suddenly, a calm voice sounded: “Wait a little longer; one shouldn’t give up until the last moment.”
Everyone looked over in surprise and found that the person speaking was the resident who had snatched the chain. Although the other was slightly pale, there was no sign of despair or collapse in his expression.
He was the one with the best emotional state among these residents.
Xia Chenxi tried to use the iron rod next to him as a crutch and stood up. The only uninjured resident rushed over to help Xia Chenxi. “Your foot is still injured.”
“I know, I just want to check something.” Xia Chenxi nodded and said to the resident, “Can you help me over? I want to see the monster’s arm.”
The resident was hiding in the room at the time and didn’t see the specific events happening outside; he had already noticed a section of an arm lying there, but he never dared to ask which resident had cut off the arm.
At this moment, seeing Xia Chenxi’s gentle attitude and how easy it was to talk to him, he helped Xia Chenxi walk forward and cautiously asked, “So, may I ask who cut off the arm of the monster?”
Xia Chenxi paused for a moment and said, “It was me.”
The resident couldn’t help but freeze, looking at Xia Chenxi in astonishment. No matter how he looked at him, he didn’t seem to be able to wield a knife and cut someone. Suddenly, his heart became even weaker, and he dared not speak to Xia Chenxi.
Xia Chenxi didn’t pay attention to the resident’s expression but carefully examined the half arm and cautiously touched it with an iron rod.
There was no response.
It seemed highly likely that there was no danger.
Xia Chenxi slowly squatted down and carefully studied this arm; he avoided touching it with his hands from beginning to end out of caution.
After a whole night, this arm was indistinguishable from when it was cut off, as if it were only wrapped in a layer of skin, with slender fingers and abnormally swollen joints.
It looked even more distorted.
The most important thing was that its nails didn’t appear sharp and hooked like those of animals, but rather looked similar to human nails, but in a grayish black color, resembling a zombie.
As for the sticky black blood left on the ground, it remained moist and emitted an extremely disgusting odor.
Xia Chenxi held his breath and accelerated his search before standing up and letting the resident help him back to the corridor on the other side.
The resident’s face was also a bit pale, and his hands trembled slightly. Part of the reason was due to the foul smell of blood, but more importantly, it was due to seeing a more brutal corpse up close.
After Xia Chenxi returned, he thanked the resident.
The resident quickly shook his head and sat quietly in the corner, trying to minimize his presence.
After Xia Chenxi sat down, he plunged into contemplation.
What was weird about this, and where did it come from? Before the appearance of the black fog, did this kind of grotesque monster exist in this world?
The most important thing was that the fourth floor seemed to be completely isolated by the community, and no matter how you tried to leave, you would always return to the fourth floor. Was it related to that creature?
Suddenly, one of the residents exclaimed with an intense reaction, “My phone has a signal; I can make calls now!”
He cried and laughed, as if he were mentally ill.
The first reaction of other residents upon hearing this was disbelief.
“Is there really a signal?”
Everyone hurriedly took out their phones, ignoring the pain caused by their extreme movements. Their eyes met the full signal displayed above the phone, and they couldn’t help but feel ecstatic. With red eyes, they exclaimed, “Finally, there’s a signal!”
“Call the police quickly and call 120.”
Some residents quickly made emergency calls, while others called their loved ones as soon as possible.
One of the residents listened to the beeping sound, and his heart seemed to be tightly gripped by an invisible big hand. After it was connected to the other side, he quickly asked, “Dad, Mom, are you okay over there?”
The parents were puzzled and tensed up afterward. “We’re both fine; it’s you; what’s wrong with you? Did something happen on your end?”
Like other residents, he immediately chose to conceal it and pretended to be okay, saying, “Isn’t it still dark? I’m just worried about your safety.”
“We’re both fine, and we’ve been eating the food at home for a long time. Don’t worry.”
“Okay, I got it; the same goes to both of you.”
After learning that their loved ones had not experienced the same terrifying situation as them, most residents had already emerged from their pessimism and despair.
Until one of the residents who was on the phone suddenly said, “Go and see if there’s daylight over here. My mom said she just saw the black fog outside the window disappear.”
After he finished speaking, he quickly turned his attention back to the phone and said, “Mom, let’s not talk about it for now. I have something urgent on my end.”
Upon hearing this, the man in the flowery shirt ignored the injuries on his body and quickly sat up to urge the only resident who was unharmed. His voice was almost hoarse: “Hurry, hurry, go take a look at the stairs.”
This building was in a straight line shape, and except for the apartment windows, only the corner of the stairs showed the outside of the community through the windows.
The resident quickly ran out upon hearing the words and disappeared around the corner.
After about a few seconds, he returned and shouted like a madman, “It has brightened up! The black fog has disappeared.”
All the residents sat there dumbfounded, and after a while, they burst into excited voices, both crying and laughing.
“The sky is really bright.”
“Great, we’re finally saved.”
Xia Chenxi rarely showed overly strong emotions in front of outsiders, but at this moment, seeing the reactions of others who survived the disaster, he also felt extremely excited and empathetic.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions, and then thought about another thing.
Since the sky was already bright, the signal had returned to normal.
So could the residents trapped on this floor also leave the fourth floor?
About less than five minutes.
The sound of the police station’s whistle came from outside, and everyone immediately realized that it was the police. They were excited and full of emotions, but then one of the residents said, “Oh no, will the police be able to find our floor?”
All the residents were immediately taken aback, then they remembered this matter and their faces turned pale.
In less than ten seconds, the sound of hurried footsteps came, and several police officers in police uniforms appeared from the stairs and ran over.
The residents looked at these police officers in shock; it felt as if they saw dawn appear. All the panic and fear disappeared.
When the police received the calls, their first reaction was disbelief. On the phone, the caller said that a monster had entered the fourth floor of the community and killed more than ten people, leaving only a few survivors.
But the police were still on high alert and rushed over at full speed, heading straight to the fourth floor at the fastest speed, and then they saw the ground full of broken limbs and lifeless bodies.
Not far away, there were several surviving individuals who seemed to have been injured and were unable to stand up.
The police had been handling cases for many years and had never seen such an extremely bloody scene with so many deaths.
It could be considered the most significant case encountered in ten years.
The police immediately sealed off the scene, and soon after, an ambulance also arrived. The police helped to lift stretchers together and carried all injured residents downstairs to the car for emergency treatment at the hospital.
The residents of the community looked at the police and ambulances downstairs in disbelief, as well as one injured person after another being carried out, feeling uneasy.
What happened?
So far, no one knew what happened on the fourth floor, and residents on all floors could only go downstairs through elevators, so they naturally couldn’t see the situation in the fourth floor corridor.
But they knew that the fourth floor had already been sealed off, and the police were guarding the fourth floor, prohibiting any residents from approaching.
This attitude made the residents of the community more uneasy.
It couldn’t be murder, right?
On the other hand, when the fourth-floor residents were lifted out, they couldn’t help but block their eyes.
The sunlight tilted down, casting a warm sensation on their bodies.
One of the residents suddenly burst into tears; the repression and fear of the past few days finally erupted at this moment.
The other residents were affected, and their eyes also turned red.
No one knew how terrifying their experiences had been these past few days.
Xia Chenxi was the least injured. As he was being carried on a stretcher, he quickly grabbed one of the police officers and reminded them, “This thing is very dangerous. Please be careful not to let it touch any part of your body.”
The police had already noticed the bloodstained chain and determined that it was likely the murder weapon.
At the first opportunity, they would bag, seal, and take this thing away.
Xia Chenxi never thought about leaving this thing behind. It posed a great threat, but he had to remind them to avoid these police officers accidentally triggering any side effects.
The police nodded in surprise and quickly replied, “Don’t worry, we will be careful.”
Xia Chenxi breathed a sigh of relief and was taken to the hospital, still lying on a stretcher.
