I Fed The Affectionate And Paranoid God - Chapter 1
C1 — Love Nurturing Game
In the middle of the night, as the city quietened, the world was enveloped in a black fog that melted into the night.
People woke up to find that darkness still shrouded the world. Everyone was apprehensive.
It was clearly morning, but no one could see the sun or any light.
Some people tried to illuminate the front with a flashlight, but they could only see vague shadows, which were the cars downstairs.
“How could this be?”
“Why is the sky still dark?”
One person after another grew nervous about the darkness, turning on their televisions and cellphones to get outside information.
Soon, official information was released.
[Hello, everyone. Please do not panic; do not leave the house at will, and keep the doors and windows closed.]
It was August, but everyone’s hearts and bodies were as cold as ice.
The official statement was that the sky had actually brightened and the sun was still hanging high in the sky.
All cities were shrouded in black fog, with visibility only ten meters away, which gave people the illusion that it was still night.
The fog was urgently tested, and no harmful substances were found in it.
But out of caution, everyone was asked to stay at home and not leave the house at will. The authorities pledged to investigate the cause as soon as possible.
Chinese people always had strong execution abilities. Although it wasn’t ruled out that some people would insist on going out, everyone quietly stayed at home.
Many households didn’t stock up on food, but they could persist for three days, relying solely on the items in the refrigerator.
Fengnian Community.
At 9am, Xia Chenxi woke up with a yawn, got out of bed, and opened the curtains. When he saw the dark night outside, he blinked and looked in disbelief at the clock hanging from the wall.
The clock was pointing up to nine o’clock.
“Why isn’t it bright yet?”
Shaken up, Xia Chenxi quickly picked up his phone and saw the official announcement.
Black fog…
Could there really be such a coincidence?
With some apprehension, Xia Chenxi closed his doors and windows despite the heat of summer, not even daring to turn on the air conditioner, he relied on a fan to absorb a shred of cooling.
During this time, he called people he knew, made sure they were safe and still at home before calming down.
Although the authorities hadn’t detected any harmful substances in the fog, there was an unsettling and frightening air to the thick fog, which seemed incapable of refracting light.
Later, Xia Chenxi sat down and looked at the app on his phone.
Just after 10 a.m. yesterday, his phone inexplicably had an app called Love Nurturing, which had a pink, soft logo that seemed girly at first glance.
But Xia Chenxi didn’t like games like this.
He preferred thrilling, scary games, which he streamed live for a living. Every month, he gave half of the money he earned to the dean.
He wanted to uninstall the game, but unexpectedly, as soon as he touched it, the screen immediately went black, and finally, a black fog-like image slowly dispersed, revealing a room.
The drawings were realistic, the furniture and fixtures looked lifelike, and there seemed to be a gloomy but impossibly beautiful little man sitting by the bed.
He sat there quietly. His body was covered in blood, but he didn’t seem to feel any pain.
He was hurt.
At the same time, a selection box and text content popped up.
[It seems to be injured! Dear player, will you take the mission to obtain medical tape to help it? Completing the mission can earn you a mysterious title, which can be used to protect yourself during the invasion of the black fog.]
At that time, he was sleepy and uninterested, so he simply exited the game and went to bed.
But now, Xia Chenxi’s gaze fell on the words ‘black fog invasion’, murmuring to himself, “Could the fog outside be related to this app?”
Xia Chenxi had always been very cautious. He didn’t intend to hastily take on the task or uninstall the game, but was prepared to wait for official information.
Xia Chenxi glanced at the little person still sitting there on the screen; his eyes were lowered with an unclear expression on his face. His clothes were a bit messy, and his arm was bleeding profusely.
Xia Chenxi pursed his lips slightly but still chose to leave the game.
In the afternoon, as the fog still hung over the world, Xia Chenxi kept up to date with the latest news and received some very bad news.
It turned out that it wasn’t just here; other countries were all caught up in this horrible fog, and no one could figure out exactly where it came from or why it hadn’t cleared.
During the waiting process, Xia Chenxi felt a bit agonized, so he searched for information about the game on his phone, but surprisingly, he didn’t find anything relevant.
It was like this game didn’t exist; otherwise, in this age of big data, no news could be hidden so perfectly that no trace could be found.
At the same time, the fog was at the top of the hot search list, and everyone was discussing it. Weibo posts were full of fear and anxiety about its appearance.
Xia Chenxi scrolled down and saw some people expressing their intention to go out and explore. Below the comments were people who were kind enough to dissuade them but didn’t receive a response.
Then, twenty minutes later, these people posted on Weibo again, with photos, stating that they had already gone out and stayed outside for five minutes without any incident.
It seemed to have eased many people.
After reading these posts, Xia Chenxi suddenly thought of something and immediately opened the live streaming software. As expected, the name of the live streaming room at the top was ‘Brother Shen takes you to explore the world of the black fog.’
The viewers were getting closer to one hundred thousand.
Many people were obviously curious. Clicking into the live broadcast room, the shaky image revealed the darkness shrouded in black fog outside, as well as the high-intensity flashlight illuminating the road ten meters ahead.
But nothing after that was visible.
As he spoke boldly, the anchor, Brother Shen, stepped into the dark fog. Most of the comments discouraged him from going further, but some praised him for being bold and rewarded him with many planes.
When the anchor named Brother Shen saw these tips, he could only grit his teeth and continue walking ten meters forward. He looked around, struggling to leave the community under the light of the flashlight.
Black fog shrouded everything; nothing could be seen. The whole world was pitch black and extremely quiet.
Brother Shen gulped nervously. “Usually, we could hear birds chirping here, but now there’s no sound at all. It’s really scary.”
The audience became nervous as they watched, sending comments urging him to hurry back, while some people urged him to continue moving forward.
Brother Shen hesitated until a few more planes flew past the screen. He decisively stated that he wanted to continue moving forward, but relying only on a flashlight made it harder.
The thick fog made him uneasy.
As Brother Shen walked, he felt more and more regretful. There was silence around him, except for his breathing and footsteps. He seemed to be the only one in the whole city.
Only the comments on the screen could give him a sense of security.
After about half an hour, Brother Shen walked to the entrance of an office building and vaguely saw someone in the security room waving at him.
The pale face stood out in the darkness.
Brother Shen was so scared that he screamed; his phone fell on the floor, but he didn’t dare pick it up. He turned and ran, until an urgent voice came from behind: “Ah?! What are you running for?”
Brother Shen was startled and quickly turned around, but he couldn’t see anything. The thick black mist enveloped everything.
But the sound still came from not far away.
“Brother, come over quickly. It’s too dangerous outside.”
“You, who are you?” Horrified, Brother Shen asked with trepidation.
After a while, the sound of footsteps approached, and the person pointed a flashlight at him. “I’m the security guard of this building.”
Brother Shen was still on guard until he got closer. The face of the man, who was about 25 or 26 years old, became clear. The man spoke first, “I was waving at you from the building. Why were you running?”
Only then did Brother Shen realize he had misunderstood. Slightly relieved, he wiped the sweat from his face and walked over. “I was too nervous.”
The security guard nodded. “You and I should go back to the security room first. The authorities said we shouldn’t come out.”
Brother Shen was even more embarrassed; if he hadn’t run, the security guard wouldn’t have followed him out.
On his way back, Brother Shen recovered his phone. The security guard looked at the screen and exclaimed, “You’re a big anchor!”
Brother Shen wasn’t a big anchor, but his live content attracted a lot of viewers, making the comments look dense.
As the two men walked back to the security room, Brother Shen asked the security guard, “Why didn’t you go home?”
The live broadcast continued since the security guard didn’t mind being on camera. He replied, “I dare not go back alone. Besides, there’s a lot of stuff in the security room that can support me for half a month. Maybe in a few days the fog will be gone.”
Brother Shen nodded and started chatting with the security guard. He didn’t have to go into the black mist anymore.
Xia Chenxi turned off the broadcast room and sat there, thinking.
It took a while.
He opened the game again.
Inside the room, the little man was still motionless, his face slightly pale.
At the same time, another prompt popped up.
[Dear Player, It appears to be getting worse; there is a high probability that the wound will become infected. Will you take on the task of getting medical tape to help it?]
Only by accepting the task would he be able to see the task content. Xia Chenxi pursed his lips and wondered whether to report this mysterious app. Then a strange red prompt suddenly popped up on the game interface.
[The game is only visible to you; if you tell others, there will be incalculable, horrible consequences.]
Xia Chenxi was surprised. Could the game discern his thoughts?
Before Xia Chenxi could test it, there seemed to be screams coming from outside, accompanied by the eerie sound of chains dragging on the ground.
