The moonlight shone coldly on the small courtyard beneath the Hongqi Apartment Building, and the air was heavy with chill. The three exorcists turned to look back at the old building looming in shadows. Thinking of how they had just been trapped inside made their skin crawl.

Luckily, they finally managed to escape!

Their gazes naturally fell on Wang Qi, eyes full of gratitude. If not for running into this young man, who knew what might have happened? But before they could say a word, Wang Qi simply waved at them and strode right back into the building with the selfie stick in hand.

“Friends, thanks for waiting! Now that I’ve sent those three downstairs, let’s continue exploring the third and fourth floors…” His voice faded as he disappeared into the crumbling doorway of the apartment building.

“…He sent us out, and then just went back in?” Old Chen muttered, dazed.

“Xiao Gao, have you ever heard of an exorcist like him?” Linlin asked. She knew Xiao Gao loved collecting information and was practically a walking encyclopedia. But Xiao Gao frowned and shook his head. “Never heard of him before…. Wait!”

He suddenly remembered something and pulled out his phone. Inside the building earlier when they were trapped in the ghost maze, their signals had been cut off, but now that they were outside, his phone reconnected instantly.

He quickly opened a livestreaming app. Seeing the puzzled looks of his two companions, he explained, “He mentioned his livestream channel number earlier…”

That’s when Xiao Gao realized something odd.

The world really did have ghosts, and all kinds of supernatural things existed. But the State and official agencies had always denied their existence to prevent mass panic and unrest in society.

In accordance with the rules, exorcists had to work in the shadows. There was no way they would ever be allowed to stream their missions. If someone does exorcise spirits live, their channel would be blocked in minutes!

Full of curiosity, Xiao Gao searched for Wang Qi’s channel, and upon seeing his username, he was first stunned, then filled with a strange feeling.

—Atheist Xiao Qi’s Paranormal Appraising Case Files.

“This…” No wonder his stream wasn’t banned. It turns out he was here to debunk supernatural claims!

Old Chen and Linlin leaned over to look too. Suddenly, they felt a surge of respect. They finally understood this master’s true intent.

He livestreamed from haunted sites to promote the idea that there were no ghosts in the world. Even if he encountered spirits, no problem—he could quietly get rid of them and then smile at the camera, “See? No ghosts here!”

He wasn’t promoting superstition! Of course, his stream wouldn’t be shot down. This was what an expert’s atheism was all about! Best of all, while exorcising spirits, he could also earn money from his stream.

As Wang Qi re-entered the building to continue exploring, netizens were already going crazy with virtual gifts in his livestream!

“Why didn’t I think of doing this?” Old Chen murmured thoughtfully. “I want to be a streamer too!”

Linlin gave him a look of pure disdain.

Xiao Gao hit back, “Do you have the skills?”

The reason why masters could be so free and unrestrained was because they had the strength. Not to mention his abilities, the spiritual value of 3000 was already astonishing enough!

Old Chen fell silent, muttering, “I wonder if this expert needs an assistant…”

Linlin and Xiao Gao ignored him and tuned into the livestream.

This was Wang Qi’s very first stream, but because he started out with a famous haunted hotspot in Qingling City, he had already drawn an audience of over ten thousand, with three thousand followers, and the numbers were climbing fast.

[This host is insane!]

[Respect! You’ve got guts of steel!]

[Keep going, host! If you die, I’ll burn paper money for you next year!]

[I don’t dare to watch any more…]

[Want to see pretty girls? Go to XXXX’s channel.]

On the livestream platform, paranormal exploration was a very niche category. Although people on social media often claimed ghosts weren’t real, many more people had encountered some weird phenomena in real life.

Livestreams of haunted sites had existed since the advent of the digital era, but the majority of those channels died after their anchors met with tragedy. Over time, people stopped tempting fate. Those who still claimed to do paranormal exploration were usually just faking it.

But Wang Qi was different. Hongqi Apartment Building was a well-known haunted location, and yet here he was, daring to go in solo. That level of courage was practically insane.

The camera view shook as his flashlight beam swept across dark walls. Even through the screen, viewers felt the suffocating creepiness. But Wang Qi’s voice remained steady, and he occasionally interacted with the barrage of comments.

“We’re back on the third floor. Let’s start from the east side and look through each room. Who knows, we might even find something interesting.” Back inside, Wang Qi pointed the camera into the dark and began inspecting the rooms one by one.

Most people—even seasoned exorcists—would be tense and anxious in this atmosphere, and they would want to leave immediately. But Wang Qi was the complete opposite. If anything, he seemed worried he might finish too quickly and explored everything in detail. He left no corner untouched.

Even if a cabinet was broken, he’d open it and shine a light inside.

The chat exploded in gasps.

[Brother, forget you not being scared, we’re scared out of our wits here!]

[What if something really jumps out of those dark corners?!]

Wang Qi just chuckled. “I’m here to prove there are no ghosts. If I’m not thorough, how will I convince you?”

Of course, that was only part of the truth. The real reason was that Hongqi Apartment was just a four-story building. It wouldn’t take long to explore it completely. If he didn’t waste some time, the stream would be over in a blink of an eye. Streaming was serious business for him!

Just when Wang Qi finished inspecting the last room on the third floor, suddenly—thump, thump, thump—sounds came from the ceiling. All the viewers could also hear it faintly through the broadcast. It sounded as though something was moving upstairs.

Wang Qi froze mid-sentence and shone the flashlight towards the ceiling.

[Holy crap, what’s that noise?]

[Host, run!]

[It’s coming! Don’t just stand there!]

[It’s over, he’s done for!!]

The chat went berserk.

Outside the building, the exorcists felt their scalps tingle. They had heard the exact sound seconds before getting trapped in a maze. Although Wang Qi’s spiritual energy was frighteningly high, allowing him to ignore illusions, this place was still haunted. That noise meant the spirits had decided to act!

What would this expert do?

The three stared at the screen in dead silence.

For a moment, the stream was quiet. Then—

“HIYAAAH!’’

Wang Qi suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs. The sound was explosive!

It wasn’t known what happened to the audience in the livestream, but the exorcist trio nearly collapsed to the ground in fright.

“Don’t worry, everyone. That was just a stray cat. I am trying to scare it off,” Wang Qi’s cheerful voice followed. “We often hear noises from neighbors upstairs, don’t we? These are just everyday sounds and a part of life. We shouldn’t be jumping gun at every chance here.”

…Everyday sound, my ass! The three exorcists nearly had heart attacks. Couldn’t he not jump-scare them in the process? But they also noticed that after Wang Qi yelled, the weird noises vanished as if truly scared away…

And Wang Qi, now even more excited, hurried up the stairs at the corridor’s end toward the fourth floor.

“Let’s see what’s really up there!” His voice was full of excitement.

The tension was high, the show’s highlight was about to begin!
