Chapter 17: Ocean Abyss Dungeon Part 3 – I’ll absolutely never forgive you

◆ Rinne and Perseus – Ocean Abyss Dungeon [Floor 4]◆

We were having so much trouble finding the portal on the 3rd floor, it was to the point where we honestly questioned, how can it possibly be this hard to find it…? That being said, the location of the portal was randomized and with a map of this size, it was so big that not even the borders were visible at a glance. We turned on the trace feature on the minimap to remember our path and went through the map like a paint roller. Only then did we finally spot it.

The verdict was that the portal was located diagonally across from the 3rd floor’s starting point, on the opposite end of the map. Furthermore, it was hidden behind the shadow of a big stone. How could the portal generation be this cruel…!? That’s just unforgivable…! Do you know how many times we’ve been cornered by those abominable squids? Aurelia-chan was even killed as if it was nothing once! I’ll absolutely never forgive you, got that!?

“At any rate, we did come across that treasure chest, didn’t we…”

“I wonder if floors 1 and 2 had them as well.”

“They might’ve, but we’ll never know…”

We made a great discovery! While we were employing our paint roller tactic, we found a chest! There was a wooden chest left on its lonesome. For a moment I almost skipped over it, thinking it must be part of the backdrop or something… but no, I had to confirm it for myself!!

Once I came to my senses and checked, it was a treasure chest!! When I think about how we could’ve missed possible chests back in floors 1 and 2, I was dumbfounded… but we can’t go back so there’s nothing we can do about it. Nevertheless, the stuff we found in the chest were 『? Clothes』『? Armor』『? Book』. Let’s appraise them after we get back to the town.

“Cute as always, those things…”

Now then, we’ve encountered a monster… but it was this dungeon’s most therapeutic monster. These things were pretty cute…

Its name was [Macho MAX Penguin]. From the name alone, you’d think they’d be macho, right? You’ll be surprised once you see the real thing though… that bouncy, plump, stout body. Hnnnnn, it’s a chubby penguin…! Yet, it comes at you posing like, “Here, look at my double biceps!” or “Behold, my side chest!!”

See? I told you it only comes at us posing. What’s with this thing and its cuteness… What are you even trying to show off here… with that jiggly body…

And this excellent experience. It’s weak, it’s cute, it gives out delicious EXP… I wish a certain squid would follow in this one’s example, seriously. The staff member that designed that squid must’ve placed it in the wrong area, didn’t they. Considering this penguin’s capabilities, they must be in the wrong place too…

I harbor nothing but a grudge against these squids… Sure, it’s a lot better now that we found a way to combo them down but why on earth do they give less EXP than those penguins… I will not tolerate this…

This time, a pufferfish was approaching us, but it was pretty big. It had to have been a tad bit smaller than a volleyball, perhaps? Nnn, this one has an endearing face too though… Why are a majority of the monsters in this dungeon cute? Even the Insquidious are cute in appearance…

It did so much damage… Unforgivable. I’ll never forgive that damn monster… Seeing how Pers-chan deflected it with Aegis, I suppose that must mean the needles that were shot out from its self-destruction were treated as projectiles. Isn’t this dungeon too harsh for anyone other than Pers-chan? Actually, maybe it’s just that Pers-chan had a great defense against these kinds of foul plays? Then again, Aegis usually breaks when she gets caught by those sharks or moray eels, so I guess it just shines in extremely advantageous situations…

Ahh, so that’s why it’s called, “I’ll Definitely Never Forgive This Pufferfish With A Deathwish”… I wonder if it was named by Napping-san, Eris-san, or maybe both of them… I get the feeling they’d be the ones to have a strong sense of bloodlust… but that is a monster that should never be let off easy. I’ll never forgive this pufferfish…!

In any case, next time it shows up, we’ll leave it to Perseus-sensei… Aurelia-chan’s AoE annihilation spell was actually a cause for concern when those things appear…

Like she said, Aurelia-chan seemed to be able to charge up her broom by giving it a tight squeeze… and she looked so cute hugging it, just adorable… Uwaah, something’s here…! It’s the one that’s cute but not so cute at the same time!! This thing spawns here too..!?

This is the absolute worst combo. Having the Insquidious shoot the pufferfish at us directly is seriously the worst!!! And it even causes it to self-destruct…!!! Still, that was some quick-thinking on Pers-chan’s part! She applied Aegis to Donta and all of us took cover behind Donta. With this, we don’t even need to waste Bone Shield!

Nice, Donta! But isn’t it unfair that squid’s still alive and well? Please get caught up in the explosion and die!!! What’s up with this thing, it’s just messing around at this point…!!

Pers-chan could use Aegis on others but it would only have a single stack of Penetrate… Furthermore, she couldn’t have two instances up so if she applies it on Donta, her’s would be lifted… With that being the case, you’re up, Donta.

Good boy… let’s revert the damage log… Still, those damn Insquidious… the fact that it even cooperates with other monsters is a whole new level of evil… and I’ve come to really understand why the “I’ll Definitely Never Forgive This Pufferfish With A Deathwish” had an additive “definitely” in its name. There’s no way anyone would go easy on it after that.

Was this really alright? I’m complete deadweight here. I’ve become some type of device that just occasionally puts up shields and does miniscule damage. I’m a curse applying apparatus. Oh, but I was able to buff them, wonder why?

Donta’s level was maxed out, we didn’t find any ☆3 magic crystals we needed as evolution materials, and we’ve hit a pretty decent level so this is a good place to leave off on! If the death penalty is just our experience, let’s just hop on Donta and bulldoze our way through the portal! And so, with that grand ole strategy in mind!

Oh no, that thing’s totally bad news. We’re dead if it catches up! I might be able to endure a hit with Bone Shield but after that it’s over!! Though on the off-chance, by some miracle, what if that thing’s not exactly strong, but another one of those 1 damage type monsters!?

If I remember correctly, the effect of the curse should decrease some of its stats, AGI being one of them. It wasn’t a whole lot but I think… we’re gaining some distance!

Portal, portal, faster, quicker. The other monsters can’t match our speed. Donta was faster than the super tough sharks but once the curse wore off on the orca, Donta would be the slower one. It’s catching up with us. First of all, that name is just scary, what do you mean by Slaughterer!?

Since we were able to take a peek at the information listed for the Slaughterer, we checked it out before teleporting back but this… explains it…

・A penalty monster. If it detects any players progressing through the dungeon at a fast pace, it’ll give chase using its Screw Attack skill.
