Before we could find the portal to floor 4, we came across it. It was as big as two volleyballs, had a plump and white cone-shaped body, sorry-looking fins, dark round cute eyes, and 10 whole limbs! But most importantly, it had a shiny effect!!!

This twinkling effect was proof that it was a rare monster. Rare monsters exist to be hunted. We can’t let it escape, we must defeat it at all cost!!!

… Eh!? All that and it didn’t die!? Isn’t this squid way too sturdy!? This thing is even tougher than that tough shark, you know!? Is that why its name is “Insquidious”!?

This squid!!! It’s durable, it has incredible resistances, and it even uses magic! I completely understand the reason behind naming it Insquidious! This thing is strong!

I-It was strong… At any rate, it was really strong… After the four of us launched an all-out attack and went as far as to have Aurelia use two Blizzard Crackers, it finally died… On top of that, at the very end it even put up an Ice Shield in response to Aurelia-chan’s Blizzard Cracker. What the heck is this, the log says, “damage from ice attacks have been reduced by half!” Don’t you think the AI for the monsters in this game are way too adept…?

“My! I have high hopes for that one too! Sounds good to me!”

Nevertheless, I got a hat drop. Man… I hope it turns out to be good.

“Nn? Ah, you were amazing, Aurelia-chan! Super strong! Good girl!!”

Thanks to Aurelia-chan’s suggestion, I got my hands on the corpse of a rare monster. What a great harvest… If I reanimated this thing with Undead Creation, it should be useful but it would be good to make a fetish out of it too… Then again, it is a squid. Although it looked cute, I probably wouldn’t get anything out of petting it and it doesn’t seem like it would really have a response to it either. Can I even use it on the surface in the first place? Yeah, I’m kind of doubtful about this one. Material for fetish, it is then!

“Oh? Are you not turning it into an undead?”

“An undead squid sounds like it would just be dried squid or something…”

“… I kind of don’t like the sound of that for some reason!”

In any case, I’m happy with the results from our rare monster subjugation. All that’s left to do is to find the portal to the fourth floor! Well then, let’s get to the next one!

We can’t find the portal to the fourth floor… and on top of that, the monsters that have been spawning in were all Insquidious… Even when we attack ’em this much, they won’t go down. They really are insidious… My Curse Spear was a piercing attack and the damage is supposed to increase by 1.5x but my overall damage is too low, it makes me wanna cry. The squid just brushes it off like, “so what?” The situation is only getting worse. Aurelia-chan would cast Blizzard Cracker the moment her MP came back, then wait for her MP and cast another Blizzard Cracker. Furthermore, the MP used in the magic from Luna, the Black Cat, was also held by Aurelia-chan. It’s no wonder her MP is depleting in these circumstances.

It only gave a little more experience compared to the other monsters but… it’s bad when it’s this tanky… this is really bad… The cost efficiency was atrocious… If possible, we’d want to avoid dealing with them but if another one pops up as we’re running away and we get entangled with two of them, that would spell bad news for us. In addition, its Icebolt was a nuisance. It shoots an arrow made of frost which could deal damage to us from afar. To make matters worse, my Bone Shield doesn’t react to magic which is extremely troublesome.

“The Insquidious are one to be feared…”

“I wonder if there’s anything we can do about this. When these guys show up, the fight gets a whole lot more difficult…”

Is there not an easier way to kill these things…? Instant death won’t work since Calamity Wave wasn’t effective and since it has so much HP, Curse was ineffective as well. Blizzard Cracker with Perfect Chanting would be halved by the Ice Shield. Even if Donta gets a stun in with Headlong Rush, by the time Donta could retreat, the stun would wear off and it would counter with an Icebolt…ugh…

“… Come to think of it, it hasn’t attacked us physically yet.”

“… That does seem true”

“Oh? Then shouldn’t I just go in and beat it up until it dies?”

“Eh, but you have to watch out for the Icebolts… ah…!”

“Ah… is correct! I forgot about Aegis’ ability!”

These squids only attacked with magic! Pers-chan can just invalidate all that with Aegis! Ugogoh, the power of its Icebolt was so intense, we were completely distracted with it. I see. It’s possible that Pers-chan could outmatch them!

These Insquidious spawn at a freakish rate! It wasn’t just their specs that were crazy but their spawn rate was wild too! However, if we can defeat them with Pers-chan, the only thing we’d consume is Pers-chan’s MP. Give it your best, Pers-chan!

Gyoeee…. Killing only after slashing 10 times was a bit much, but it was a complete shut-out! Amazing! Now we’ll be able to take down these Insquidious without spending much but I must say, what is with the frequency of those Icebolts… How fearsome… When it gets into an attack stance, it’ll fire one off every two seconds…

Well, regardless, if I work out the math and check the damage log for all the Insquidious we defeated up until now, its HP appeared to be around 5500, give or take. The Super Tough Shark-sans had about 2500 HP so these things had double the HP. Double, I tell you. No, more than double. That’s actually ridiculous. Even though they’re just squids. They’re mere squids, but they’re such a pain!!!

“I, defeated it, but… ugh… is right.”

“Ugh, indeed…”

It’s great to have a way to defeat it safely and keep everyone healthy but it took time… Human greed is bottomless so now that we figured out a way to safely defeat them, next time, we want to be able to beat them as quickly and smoothly as possible…

“Your basic attack damage can’t go any higher, can it?”

“If I take a bigger swing, it’ll increase to some extent but that’s about it…”

“Hmm… I’m curious about the reason why Babylon-chan said ‘that’s it?’ back then. There has to be something else to the magic sword.

Babylon-chan said, “that’s it?” in response to seeing Pers-chan’s magic sword, Harper, so I was thinking maybe there’s something else to it, but yeeeah, if we want to increase the power, the amount of effort we have to use would also increase. “By the way, after you pull out your longsword, can you not also pull out the dagger too?”

Two blades… came out… That explains why she was upset at how short-sighted we were…

“While we’re at it, m-maybe they can combine or something…”

She could even combine them to make a bigger sword. It truly is a magic sword. We were definitely too strait-laced about it. No wonder she scolded us…!!!

“Woof!! (They’re here again, the tough pale monsters!)”

“What do you want to do? You could probably fire one shot off!”

“Stand back…!! I’m gonna kill it…!!!”

Pers-chan looks frustrated with herself… her eyes were tearing up a bit… I totally get it, I never imagined she’d be able to pull out two swords… then again, it’s not as if the Guide to Magic Swords explicitly stated you couldn’t unsheathe two or anything…

Uwaah, the Hyper Slash in this magic greatsword mode expanded to around 4 meters long… and as expected, it was strong…

“This is consuming twice as much MP…!?”

In an instant, 200 of her MP was gone. What an expensive mana cost. Pers-chan had 1600 MP and the speed of her mana recovery was a little slower because of her class. These Insquidious are still giving us a hard time… We could defeat it within a shorter period but… nothing ever goes according to plan in life.

“In terms of damage, we might not need that last Hyper Slash…”

“Maybe we should have Don-chan use headlong rush on it, then I go in for the attack after.”

“I wonder if it’ll be more cost effective for your MP if we don’t use Hyper Slash. Donta, from now on, you’ll initiate on those guys with Headlong Rush, okay?”

Let’s settle with this rotation for the time being. Hahh. I wanna hurry up and get out of this squid zone already… Still no 4th floor yet…?

[Insquidious]

The only thing cute about it is its appearance. When it comes to the most unbalanced monster in the Ocean Abyss Dungeon, it’s at the top of the list. It’s durable, strong, and doesn’t give enough EXP. A troublesome type of opponent that will force you to expend your resources. Seriously sucks whenever more than one shows up or if it appears with other monsters. Since everything about it was just dreadful, it was given the simple name of Insquidious.

Only uses magic attacks, has next to no physical attacks. It’s weakness is [Pierce]
