I Can Add Points Infinitely - Chapter 56
Shen Lian’s spiritual sense continued to expand.
He focused his attention on the mortal workers laboring inside the mine. What he saw immediately caused him to frown.
In the mine, the mortals were emaciated and hollow-eyed, moving like zombies as they struck the walls, extracting spirit stones from the rock. Shen Lian watched for a long time.
Each person looked utterly numb, mechanically performing their mining tasks, without the slightest interaction between them. His spiritual sense drifted toward the nearby buildings—the homes of the workers’ families.
There, too, most people’s eyes were just as lifeless, filled with hopelessness and a deathly aura. Only a few young children showed any spark of vitality in their eyes.
Suddenly, a rumbling sound echoed.
A section of the mine tunnel, inadequately supported, collapsed. Although Shen Lian had been monitoring the entire Dongshi Valley with his spiritual sense, he had not been specifically focused on this area, but he still detected the situation immediately.
A few workers who happened to be passing through were buried beneath the debris.
Shen Lian’s brows furrowed. He immediately left the quiet room and rushed toward the mine.
Moments later…
When he arrived at the mine, Liu Zhiyong was already there.
“Hurry up! What are you all standing around for? Get in there and clear the tunnel!” Liu Zhiyong yelled, his brow furrowed. “Do you still want to eat? If today’s mining output isn’t met, all of you can starve!”
The dozen or so workers, with no expression on their faces, turned and silently entered the mine.
Only then did Liu Zhiyong nod with satisfaction. Turning around, he suddenly noticed Shen Lian standing behind him, making him pause in surprise.
“Oh, Senior Brother, when did you arrive? Haha, it’s just a minor issue; I didn’t expect to disturb you,” Liu Zhiyong quickly plastered on a smile, bowing and scraping as he approached.
“Be careful, Senior Brother. It’s filthy in there, not a place for someone of your status. Let’s head back,” Liu Zhiyong said, making a show of helping Shen Lian away.
However, Shen Lian sidestepped him, avoiding his touch. He frowned, “Judging from the noise, the collapse inside seems quite severe. Letting mortals clear it will take hours. Won’t the workers buried inside suffocate by then?”
“Oh, you’re worried about that? Don’t worry…” Liu Zhiyong said with a dismissive wave, “There are ventilation shafts set up throughout the mine. It won’t delay the mortals’ work.”
“As long as the tunnel is cleared, the spirit stones can be transported out smoothly.”
“And what about the workers buried under the debris?” Shen Lian asked, turning his gaze toward him.
“We’ll just throw them away,” Liu Zhiyong said indifferently. “It’s common for a few to die in this place. You’re new, so you might not be used to it yet. You’ll get used to it with time.”
Hearing this, Shen Lian’s frown deepened.
He shook his head, unwilling to waste any more words, and leaped into the air, transforming into a streak of light that shot into the mine.
“Huh?” Liu Zhiyong watched in surprise at Shen Lian’s actions. It took him a long moment to come back to his senses, and he muttered under his breath, “Pretending to be some kind of saint…”
He grumbled softly, with no intention of entering the mine himself.
Meanwhile, Shen Lian quickly made his way through the tunnel to the site of the collapse.
The dozen or so workers had just arrived and were preparing to clear the rubble when they saw a flash of blue light speeding toward them.
The light landed in front of them, transforming into Shen Lian’s figure.
The workers paused, surprised by his sudden appearance.
Without saying a word, Shen Lian used his spiritual sense to scan the surroundings, then wielded his Blue Jade Sword, slashing several times with lightning speed.
Swish, swish, swish!
The sharp sword light sliced through the rubble as if cutting through tofu.
Dust rose, and stones flew everywhere.
Shen Lian swiftly gathered his spiritual energy, absorbing all the dust into a small ball and tossing it aside.
The sword light flashed again, turning large chunks of rock into fine powder.
Using his spiritual energy, he pulled the debris together.
In this way, within just a few breaths, the collapse was completely cleared.
Shen Lian also cut several long, rectangular stones from nearby and placed them to reinforce the tunnel.
After finishing, he looked down.
Three mortals were buried at the center of the collapse. One was relatively fortunate, suffering no major injuries and having found shelter in a crevice between the rocks.
The other two were in far worse condition.
One had both legs crushed and twisted into a terrible shape, unconscious from the pain.
The other had a collapsed chest, his breaths shallow—more out than in—and he seemed on the verge of death.
The dozen or so workers stood nearby, their expressions numb.
They had grown used to such sights.
For them, being crushed to death was easier to accept than ending up like the crippled mortal.
Unable to work in the mines meant no food rations, only lying in the workers’ sheds, left to die slowly. When death finally came, they would be buried in a shallow grave outside.
To die in agony, lingering like this, was worse than dying outright.
Shen Lian remained silent. He took a step forward, moving to the most severely injured worker.
His spiritual sense carefully examined the internal injuries, then he flicked his wrist, retrieving two pills.
He opened the worker’s mouth and fed him one pill.
Guiding the medicinal power with his spiritual energy, the pill dissolved and spread throughout the worker’s body.
Meanwhile, Shen Lian gently stroked the man’s chest with his left hand, using spiritual energy to realign his broken ribs.
At the same time, he crushed the other pill and evenly applied it to the injured area.
Both pills were rewards from the system, extremely potent in their medicinal effects.
Within moments, the worker’s breathing steadied, his internal injuries stabilized, and his condition improved by seventy to eighty percent. Even his complexion gradually turned rosy.
Seeing that this worker was no longer in danger, Shen Lian turned to heal the next.
This one had only suffered broken legs, which was even easier to handle.
Shen Lian used his spiritual energy to straighten the man’s legs.
Under the excruciating pain, the worker let out a muffled groan, slowly waking up.
Before he could understand what was happening, Shen Lian had already fed him a pill and applied another to the broken bones.
The worker felt a warm, tingling sensation in his legs.
In a flash, the sensation faded, and his legs were fully healed as if they were new.
“You…” The worker stared at Shen Lian in shock, instinctively standing up.
His legs felt perfectly normal.
“Did you save me?” he asked again, his voice trembling uncontrollably.
The man’s once-lifeless eyes were now filled with tears.
“Don’t worry about work for now. Rest well for a few days. Your legs will fully recover without any issues,” Shen Lian said calmly.
Thud!
The worker suddenly knelt down.
Bang, bang, bang!
He knocked his head on the ground three times, choking out, “Thank you, thank you, sir, thank you…”
Shen Lian stood silent.
Seeing the tears streaming down the face of this sturdy man, he felt a tightness in his chest.
“Rest for a few days and help carry this man back,” he continued gently. “The conditions here will soon change. I promise you, you won’t have to suffer anymore.”
Only Shen Lian understood the immense anger and determination behind this seemingly casual statement.
Having said that, he turned and walked away.
At that moment—
Thud!
Thud!
…
Behind him, the dozen or so workers suddenly all knelt down.
They looked at Shen Lian’s departing figure with intense emotions.
When Shen Lian had appeared in a flash of blue light, their expressions had not changed.
When their coworkers were buried under rocks, their expressions had not changed.
When their coworkers were dug out with horrific injuries, their expressions still hadn’t changed, remaining numb as before.
But now, with Shen Lian healing two of them, they were finally moved.
All of them began to wail.
The lifeless eyes that had been filled with despair now seemed to show a faint glimmer of hope.
