- Chapter 30 - Hidden Secrets of the Cave Heaven, Spirit of the Blessed Land
The world around Shen Lian shifted as if he was once again traveling through the void tunnel he had first entered when arriving in the secret realm. Before he could fully grasp his surroundings, the immense pressure holding him vanished, and his vision cleared, revealing a completely new space.
Thin red curtains billowed gently as a soft breeze stirred the air, accompanied by the delicate sound of wind chimes. It looked like a bedroom, or more specifically, a young lady’s private chamber, judging by the color scheme and decor.
A small, ornate cauldron sat on a table near the bed, emitting faint wisps of smoke that filled the room with a subtle floral scent. The floor was made of an unknown type of jade, radiating a gentle warmth with every step. The walls were richly adorned with gold inlays and embedded with numerous agate and gemstone beads. The warm, soft light illuminated the entire room, making everything easily visible without the need for torches.
“How did I end up in this place all of a sudden? Did I trigger some kind of formation? And is this still within the secret realm?” Shen Lian pondered as he took in his new surroundings, his mind racing with questions.
“Damn, I didn’t even get a chance to grab that storage bag before getting pulled here. What a loss…” Shen Lian recalled the final details before being whisked away. He had just killed the last Thunder Valley disciple and hadn’t had the chance to retrieve the storage bag before some mysterious force had brought him here. He couldn’t help but feel it was a missed opportunity.
“Hehe… you’re quite amusing, little one. Instead of being scared in an unfamiliar place, you’re still worried about some measly spirit stones. Should I call you brave, or just brainless?”
A playful, gentle voice suddenly chimed in. The voice was sweet and pleasant, like soft cotton candy melting in the air.
Shen Lian turned towards the sound, spotting a small figure that had somehow appeared on the bed behind him. It was a little girl, appearing no older than seven or eight, with pointed fox ears and a bushy tail playfully swaying behind her. She wore a colorful dress, and her bare feet swung back and forth in the air as she rested her chin on her hands, blinking at Shen Lian with big, curious eyes.
“Little girl, was it you who just spoke?” Shen Lian asked softly.
“How rude! Who are you calling little girl? I’m older than your grandmother. Call me Lady Fox Immortal!” The little girl’s eyes widened, her voice rising in mock indignation.
“Uh…” Shen Lian couldn’t help but find her outburst adorable, more like a child pretending to be an adult. Despite her playful demeanor, Shen Lian knew better than to let his guard down in such a mysterious place, especially with such a peculiar figure appearing out of nowhere.
After a brief pause, he nodded readily and respectfully said, “Greetings, Lady Fox Immortal.”
“Hmm, that’s better.” The little girl’s lips curled into a sweet smile, clearly pleased with his response. She nodded approvingly and said, “Not bad, little one. You seem quite sensible.”
She paused, then casually tossed a storage bag toward Shen Lian. “Here, weren’t you worried about those spirit stones? I brought them back for you.”
“Huh?” Shen Lian caught the bag, eyeing her suspiciously.
Seeing his doubt, the little girl explained, “Don’t overthink it. This is the storage bag you missed earlier. I picked it up for you. Aren’t you going to thank me?”
“Uh… Thank you, Lady Fox Immortal,” Shen Lian said instinctively. He opened the bag and saw the Thunder Valley disciple’s token inside, confirming its authenticity. With this, his mind filled with speculation as he began sorting through the items inside, transferring them to his own storage bag.
After finishing with that bag, Shen Lian pulled out two others he had not yet checked, meticulously organizing all the items.
“Tsk, tsk…” The little girl watched his actions with mild disdain, shaking her head. “Is the cultivation world this pitiful now? So broke… What a sorry sight.”
With a sigh, she couldn’t stand watching any longer and casually tossed a ring to Shen Lian. “Take this, a storage ring. Stop messing around with those shabby storage bags; it’s a pain.”
Shen Lian hesitated briefly before catching the ring, instinctively channeling his spiritual energy to refine it. As it was unowned, the refinement process was smooth and swift. In moments, he had gained access to the enormous storage space within, which was several times larger than any of his storage bags. The space allowed for instant retrieval of items, merely by thought, a vast improvement over the cumbersome search method of storage bags.
“This storage ring is incredible. Its value might even rival a supreme-grade spiritual weapon,” Shen Lian quickly assessed, delighted by the newfound convenience. He transferred all his belongings into the ring and then sincerely thanked the little girl.
“Don’t mention it; it’s just a trinket, nothing to fuss over.” She waved dismissively, clearly unconcerned about the ring’s worth.
After securing his items, Shen Lian hesitated briefly before asking cautiously, “Lady Fox Immortal, could you tell me where this place is?”
“Hehe… You finally couldn’t hold back, huh? I was wondering how long you’d last before asking.” The little girl giggled before explaining, “This is the core of the Qinghuan Blessed Land. Without my permission, no one can enter. If someone tries to force their way in, the blessed land would simply shatter and disappear.”
“Qinghuan Blessed Land?” Shen Lian repeated, bewildered.
“Yeah, it’s what you people call the secret realm,” the little girl replied with a snort. “Those old geezers have no clue and just make up names. If not for fulfilling my master’s last wish of finding a worthy inheritor, I wouldn’t even bother letting them in.”
Shen Lian was stunned, his mind racing back to what the Seventh Elder had said about the secret realm. The Azure Cloud Sect’s ancestor had discovered it and explored it with Thunder Valley. But now it seemed it wasn’t an accidental discovery at all; this little fox spirit had let them in deliberately?
“You’ve been aware of all our explorations in the secret realm?” Shen Lian asked.
“Of course,” she replied. “Without my secret cooperation, do you think you could have waltzed into the blessed land so easily? I originally intended to use this method to slowly select a worthy inheritor. But after hundreds of years, all the people who’ve come in were useless. They practiced incomplete techniques and couldn’t even perfect a single realm. I was starting to regret opening the realm at all.”
“For years, I handed out so many treasures, and although they were mostly junk, they were still assets of the blessed land. But finally, it seems I didn’t waste everything—now that you’re here.”
“Me?” Shen Lian pointed to himself in surprise.
“Yes, you,” the little girl nodded, but then she frowned slightly, muttering, “You’re a bit strange, though. Your talent is awful, your techniques aren’t great, yet you somehow manage to reach perfection. How do you even cultivate?”
“Uh…” Shen Lian was at a loss for words, uncertain of how to respond.
