“Uh…”

Shen Lian turned his head to look behind him.

He saw a Thunder Valley disciple in white robes, laughing smugly. The man’s face was full of arrogance, his eyes fixed on the broken bronze mirror, completely ignoring Shen Lian as if he didn’t exist.

It was no surprise—Shen Lian appeared to be merely at the third level of Qi Refinement, while the other was a solid eighth-level Qi Refinement expert.

“Kid, hand over the item and get lost while I’m still in a good mood, and I might just let you live,” Fang Qing said arrogantly.

“Idiot.”

Shen Lian rolled his eyes, not bothering to respond. He casually flipped his hand and stored the broken bronze mirror into his storage bag.

“Huh? Are you courting death?”

Seeing Shen Lian’s actions, Fang Qing’s anger flared, and he drew his sword with a sharp “shing.” However, before he could make a move, Shen Lian’s figure turned into a blur.

Swish!

A faint blue light flickered and vanished. Before Fang Qing could react, Shen Lian was already standing behind him, his back straight, gripping the ethereal blue-glowing Blue Jade Sword.

“You…”

Fang Qing’s eyes widened in shock, trying to turn his head to look at Shen Lian. But as soon as his body moved, the world around him spun, and everything went black.

Thud!

Fang Qing’s headless body fell to the ground, his severed head rolling far away, eyes still wide open in disbelief. Blood spurted violently from his neck, quickly staining the ground.

Shen Lian’s expression remained calm. He flipped his hand, storing the Blue Jade Sword, which was unsullied by a single drop of blood.

Turning around, he bent down and began the familiar task of looting the corpse, methodically and emotionlessly, like a machine programmed to scavenge.

Before coming, the Seventh Elder had specifically instructed him not to show mercy to Thunder Valley disciples, advising him to kill whenever possible.

Shen Lian, of course, followed his master’s orders to the letter.

Fang Qing’s storage bag contained a good amount of items, including over a hundred low-grade spirit stones and various miscellaneous pills, all of which Shen Lian happily pocketed.

Only the elite disciples of these two major sects could enter the secret realm, and each carried valuable belongings. Even an idiot like Fang Qing had treasures worth far more than the broken bronze mirror.

After looting, Shen Lian couldn’t be bothered to dispose of the body. It wasn’t a Azure Cloud Sect disciple he’d killed, so he didn’t care if others found it.

The unfortunate Fang Qing was left to rot in the wilderness.

Meanwhile, Shen Lian calmly continued searching the area. After a thorough sweep and confirming that there was nothing else worth taking, he turned and headed east.

Shen Lian’s pace was unhurried, his focus mainly on the surrounding ground, hoping to spot any overlooked treasures.

After wandering for more than an hour without finding anything else, Shen Lian couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at his poor luck.

Buzzing~~~

The sudden sound of wings flapping caught his attention.

Shen Lian looked up and saw a small bee slowly flying nearby. He glanced at it, initially dismissing it as unimportant, but then suddenly froze as he realized something was wrong.

“This doesn’t feel right. Why would a bee randomly appear here?”

Just as this thought crossed his mind, he heard a faint sound of something slicing through the air.

Shen Lian instinctively halted his steps and stepped back.

Swish!

A black streak shot past where he had been standing just a moment ago.

“Huh?”

A soft exclamation of surprise came from a short distance away.

Shen Lian’s eyes turned cold as he looked in that direction, spotting a figure hiding behind a large tree just a few meters away.

Realizing he’d been discovered, the figure stepped out of hiding—a sinister-looking young man in white robes, clearly another Thunder Valley disciple.

“Heh, nice reflexes. No wonder someone at the mere third level of Qi Refinement was chosen to enter the secret realm.”

The man sneered, and without waiting for Shen Lian to respond, he began rapidly forming hand seals.

Buzzing~~~

The buzzing of wings grew louder and more intense. The small bee, initially of ordinary size, suddenly swelled to the size of a fist, its tail ending in a sharp, menacing stinger that gleamed with a dangerous black sheen.

Swish!

The bee’s tail flicked, sending another black streak darting toward Shen Lian.

He sidestepped, dodging it effortlessly.

This time, Shen Lian could see clearly that the black streak was the bee’s stinger. It was evidently a special breed of bee that the young man had tamed for surprise attacks.

“Are all Thunder Valley disciples this stupid?” Shen Lian asked coolly after easily avoiding the attack.

“What did you say?”

The young man’s face showed disbelief.

Before he could react, a shadow flashed, and Shen Lian appeared right in front of him in an instant.

The young man instinctively tried to retreat, but the shadow was far too fast.

Just as he lifted his foot, a ghostly blue light slashed across his vision.

Swish!

The young man froze in place, his shocked expression still on his face. A moment later, his neck split open, and blood gushed out.

His body remained standing even as his head tumbled to the ground with a heavy thud, following in Fang Qing’s footsteps.

“When a sneak attack fails, your first choice should be to flee. Got it?”

Shen Lian said calmly.

But by then, the young man could no longer hear his words.

Retrieving the storage bag from the young man’s body, Shen Lian let go, and the corpse finally slumped to the ground.

Buzzing~~~~

The bee, enraged by its master’s death, buzzed furiously and charged at Shen Lian, its wings beating rapidly.

It seemed intent on avenging its owner.

But without the young man’s control, the bee’s movements were clumsy. Shen Lian didn’t even bother to look, casually swinging his sword and slicing the bee in half.

The annoying buzzing ceased instantly.

Storing the Blue Jade Sword, Shen Lian opened the storage bag, intending to check its contents, when suddenly—

“Tang Yao…”

“Junior Brother, is that you?”

“What happened?”

Several voices called out from a distance, followed by the sound of numerous footsteps approaching.

“There are more of them?”

Shen Lian’s mind raced. He quickly stowed the storage bag and, after a brief thought, leapt into the treetops, concealing himself.

Swish, swish, swish…

Moments later, three figures arrived together.

“Junior Brother?”

Seeing the body on the ground, the trio’s faces turned pale.

“Who did this? Junior Brother Tang Yao might not be strong in direct combat, but he was still at the eighth level of Qi Refinement. How could he have been killed so quickly?”

“Did he encounter one of Azure Cloud Sect’s prodigies?”

“Hmph, whoever it was, this debt must be paid in blood!”

“He couldn’t have gone far. Let’s pursue!”

The lead youth barked, and the three immediately set off, quickly determining the direction and giving chase.

Tang Yao and these three were all direct disciples under the same Thunder Valley elder and shared a strong bond. Upon entering the secret realm, they had quickly regrouped.

Their plan was to lie in ambush while the main groups hadn’t yet gathered, aiming to assassinate and loot other disciples for their spirit stones and treasures.

The four had split up to guard different areas but stayed close enough to support each other in case of trouble. However, Tang Yao’s misfortune led him straight to Shen Lian, whom he underestimated as merely at the third level of Qi Refinement, and his overconfidence left him vulnerable.

By the time his comrades arrived, his body had already gone cold.

The three figures darted off in pursuit.

Hidden among the branches, Shen Lian quietly peeked out, a cold smile playing on his lips.

He silently descended from the tree and, like a ghost, transformed into multiple shadows, stealthily tailing the three Thunder Valley disciples.
