- Chapter 25 - The Secret Realm Opens, the Seventh Elder’s Instructions
“What good news?” Shen Lian asked curiously, looking at the Seventh Elder.
“The secret realm is opening early,” the Seventh Elder replied softly.
“Secret realm?” Shen Lian was puzzled.
He had heard the term “secret realm” mentioned before, but his master hadn’t gone into details then. Shen Lian had assumed it had little to do with him, so he was surprised to be called back specifically for this.
Seeing his confusion, the Seventh Elder explained further.
A secret realm, or “blessed land,” was a unique space created by a powerful ancient sect as its base. Establishing such a place required not only immense strength but also rare materials, and conditions even beyond the reach of a sect like Azure Cloud.
Hundreds of years ago, the founder of Azure Cloud Sect discovered this secret realm. Despite mobilizing the entire sect, they couldn’t claim it alone. Only after seeking the help of the nearby Thunder Valley Sect did they succeed in entering.
Upon investigation, they found the realm severely damaged, with remnants of a powerful sect that had been destroyed in an ancient battle. From the ruins, the founder discovered the words “Lingyuan,” naming the realm the Lingyuan Secret Realm.
Over the years, Azure Cloud Sect and Thunder Valley Sect explored the realm extensively, unearthing countless treasures and rare resources, which greatly contributed to their rise to power. With time, the most valuable items were removed, leaving behind some lesser treasures, and the two sects decided to use the secret realm as a training ground, opening it once every ten years for disciples below the Foundation Establishment stage.
For Azure Cloud and Thunder Valley, the remaining items in the secret realm might not be precious, but for individual disciples, they were invaluable. Thus, every time the realm opened, spots to enter were highly coveted.
The Seventh Elder had worked hard to secure a spot for Shen Lian.
“Tomorrow, head to the Inner Sect square,” the Seventh Elder instructed. “The elders in charge will escort you to the entrance of the secret realm.”
“Yes, Master,” Shen Lian nodded, deeply touched.
The Seventh Elder paused, then added, “The sect’s requirement is that disciples entering the secret realm should be at least at the seventh layer of Qi Refinement. I know from watching you practice that your strength can’t be measured by cultivation level alone, so I fought to get you a spot.”
“However, be cautious. Even though the sects have explored the realm thoroughly, some hidden dangers may still remain. And this time, Lu E from the Third Elder’s group will also enter. He’s likely looking to cause you trouble because of past grievances.”
“But don’t worry too much; your senior brothers will also be there. You won’t be alone. Try to regroup with them quickly.”
“Also, be wary of the disciples from Thunder Valley Sect.”
“Oh?” Shen Lian’s curiosity was piqued. He had initially been curious about his senior brothers but was now more concerned with this warning.
“Will Thunder Valley Sect deliberately target us?”
“It’s more than just trouble,” the Seventh Elder said, his expression turning severe. “Back then, Thunder Valley Sect was weaker than Azure Cloud Sect. For years, we’ve held them down.”
“But in recent years, their strength has surged inexplicably, and they’re now nearly on par with us. This is known only to the higher-ups; the outside world still thinks Thunder Valley is under our thumb.”
“In reality, several minor conflicts have already occurred between our sects, and a full-blown conflict may not be far off.”
“So that’s how it is…” Shen Lian was stunned by this revelation.
“What should I do if Thunder Valley disciples provoke me, or worse…”
“Kill them. Show no mercy,” the Seventh Elder replied with a fierce tone.
“I understand, Master,” Shen Lian nodded solemnly.
“Prepare well and don’t be late tomorrow,” the Seventh Elder said with a wave of his hand.
“Yes, Master.” Shen Lian bowed respectfully and took his leave.
The next morning, Shen Lian arrived early at the Inner Sect square, only to find it already filled with numerous disciples, most of whom were there to watch the excitement.
Pushing through the crowd, Shen Lian reached the assembly area, marked by a signpost. An elder with a stern expression sat beside it, overseeing the registration of participating disciples, with a group of over ten True Transmission disciples standing quietly behind him.
Shen Lian stepped forward, presenting his disciple token to the elder.
After verifying Shen Lian’s identity, the elder nodded. “Wait over there; we’ll depart once everyone has arrived.”
“Yes,” Shen Lian nodded obediently and stood aside.
“Hey, who’s that? He’s only at the third layer of Qi Refinement and still qualified to enter the secret realm?” the murmurs started among the surrounding Inner Sect disciples.
“Tch, how could you not recognize him? Haven’t you heard of Shen Lian, the number one genius of the Inner Sect?”
“That’s Shen Lian? The one who just joined and defeated a fifth-level Qi Refinement disciple while still at the first level?”
“Who else could it be? See the ‘seven’ embroidered on his robe? He’s the lowest-ranking disciple under the Seventh Elder.”
The whispers reached Shen Lian’s ears, but he remained calm, standing silently.
Just then, the crowd parted, making way for another group of disciples reporting their arrival.
“He’s here too… the number one prodigy of the Inner Sect…”
“Of course, that’s Lu E. He’s been at the peak of the tenth level for ages. There’s no way he’d miss the secret realm opening.”
“Lu E?” Shen Lian’s eyes followed the chatter, landing on the cold-faced young man at the front of the group. He exuded a powerful aura, marking him at the pinnacle of Qi Refinement.
Behind him were several others, all with “three” embroidered on their sleeves, marking them as disciples under the Third Elder. Shen Lian didn’t recognize any of them.
It was clear that the Seventh Elder’s earlier advice was true—these disciples were among the top talents of Azure Cloud Sect, rarely seen within the sect because they spent most of their time training outside.
As Shen Lian pondered this, Lu E finished registering and turned his gaze toward him, eyes cold and unyielding.
