The Yan Kingdom’s southern region is dominated by three major sects, with the Azure Cloud Sect standing at the forefront.

Numerous smaller sects also exist, most of which operate under the influence of these three main sects.

Unlike Shen Lian’s previous world, here, power resides with sects rather than monarchies.

Ordinary towns rely on sects for survival, and only under the protection of these sects can common people avoid the menace of rampaging beasts.

The Azure Cloud Sect is located in the Chongshan Mountain Range, controlling hundreds of miles of land and guarded by countless defensive arrays.

Using his outer disciple token, Shen Lian returned to the Azure Cloud Sect.

He saw the plaza bustling with disciples, some receiving tasks, others chatting or sparring—resembling a grand city from his previous life.

Following his memories, Shen Lian didn’t return to his room but headed straight for the Scripture Pavilion.

A queue of disciples was already waiting at the entrance.

Shen Lian joined the line, and after a short wait, he reached the front gate.

The Pavilion Elder, holding a recording device, glanced at Shen Lian and said, “Disciple token.”

Shen Lian respectfully handed over his token.

The elder briefly scanned the token against the device, confirming its authenticity before returning it to Shen Lian.

“Go and strike the stone monument.”

The elder pointed to a massive stone monument standing nearby.

“Yes, Elder.”

Shen Lian bowed slightly, then positioned himself before the monument.

The Body Refining stage is somewhat unique; it’s not considered true cultivation yet, so strength cannot be accurately measured by divine sense.

There’s no “Qi sense” since Qi Refining hasn’t even begun.

Thus, at this stage, cultivators assess their level based on physical strength.

The Azure Cloud Sect crafted this stone monument specifically for disciples to strike; the depth of the mark left indicates the Body Refining level.

Similar mechanisms exist in other sects.

Shen Lian steadied himself, exhaled slowly, and recalled the sensation of his recent advancement to the tenth layer of Body Refining. Then, he threw a punch with the force he remembered.

Bang!

A muffled sound echoed as a fist imprint, over an inch deep, appeared on the stone, only to slowly repair itself and return to its original smooth state.

“Hmm? Body Refining tenth layer?”

The Pavilion Elder showed a hint of surprise, but it was just a fleeting moment.

While the tenth layer is highly coveted among outer disciples, it’s not particularly rare in the Azure Cloud Sect.

What genuinely surprised the elder was that, according to his records, Shen Lian’s last visit to the Scripture Pavilion was eight months ago when he was only at the third layer of Body Refining.

Advancing from the third to the tenth layer in just eight months placed Shen Lian within the ranks of minor geniuses.

Little did the elder know, Shen Lian had only used about half of his full strength.

If he had unleashed his full power, the extraordinary toughness of his body—far surpassing the typical tenth layer—would be impossible to explain.

“Not bad, you may enter. You’re allowed to view seven techniques. There’s no time limit; if you don’t finish reading, you can continue next time. However, remember, once you select a technique, it cannot be changed. Understood?”

The elder’s voice was stern.

“Understood, Elder,” Shen Lian nodded respectfully before entering through the side door.

The Scripture Pavilion was vast inside, filled with countless martial techniques and cultivation manuals, numbering in the thousands.

Since outer disciples haven’t begun Qi Refining, the techniques available here are all of the lowest grade—Yellow Grade Lower Rank.

Even so, Shen Lian found the sight quite tempting.

While others may consider these techniques basic, focusing on quality over quantity, Shen Lian saw them as potential skill points.

With over a thousand techniques, reading them all could yield tens of thousands of skill points in an instant.

Unfortunately, this was only a fantasy.

The Azure Cloud Sect tightly controls its knowledge, and every technique viewed is recorded by the arrays guarding the pavilion. Once the set limit is reached, the disciple is expelled.

Knowing the sect’s rules, Shen Lian was in no rush.

He strolled along the bookshelves, carefully reading the introductions to each technique.

After a full hour, he selected seven techniques: three sword techniques, two fist techniques, one leg technique, and one movement technique.

Shen Lian’s choices were made with careful thought.

Having grown up idolizing the swordsmen of martial arts novels, he had a particular fondness for sword techniques.

The fist and leg techniques were chosen to cover potential gaps, allowing him to fight effectively even without a sword.

As for the movement technique, it complemented his leg technique, aiding both in combat and swift retreats—a vital asset.

After selecting the techniques, Shen Lian sat cross-legged and began memorizing them.

Once he had committed all the techniques to memory, he called up his system panel.

As expected, the newly selected techniques appeared under his skills, and his skill points had increased to seventy.

Without hesitation, Shen Lian allocated points to each technique.

Within moments, all seven techniques had reached their perfected levels.

Insights into the techniques flowed into his mind as if he had practiced them for countless years, becoming second nature.

With sixteen points remaining, Shen Lian poured them all into the Body Tempering Technique.

Warm currents surged through his body, and his physical strength increased at an astounding rate.

When the skill points were exhausted, Shen Lian felt his body brimming with explosive power.

He couldn’t quantify his exact strength, but he knew he had at least doubled in power since his last check.

Satisfied, Shen Lian returned the techniques to their original places and exited the Scripture Pavilion, eager to test his new skills in his private training room.

Outside, disciples were still queuing, so Shen Lian took a side route to avoid drawing attention.

But, by sheer misfortune, he soon encountered a familiar figure.

“Shen Lian.”

A low voice called from the side.

Turning his head, Shen Lian saw a young man in the blue robe of an outer disciple, but with a seal embroidered at the collar, marking his status.

“Wang Hui?”

Shen Lian was startled. What a small world indeed.

This youth was none other than the culprit behind the vicious attack on the previous owner of this body just days ago.

“Senior Brother Wang,” Shen Lian greeted with a polite bow, quickly assessing the situation.

“Well, well, it really is you. You look pretty good,” Wang Hui said, staring intently at Shen Lian.

Unlike Shen Lian’s calm demeanor, Wang Hui’s face clearly showed his surprise.

He distinctly remembered ambushing and killing Shen Lian earlier that day. Yet, here Shen Lian was, perfectly fine and back in the sect just a few hours later.

Confusion filled Wang Hui’s mind. Moments ago, he’d thought he had mistaken someone else for Shen Lian, but now there was no doubt.
