I Can Add Points Infinitely - Chapter 19
Before him lay a massive Ironback Centipede, thrashing and roaring just outside Chenjia Village. The creature was enormous, stretching over ten meters in length.
Surrounding the centipede were seven or eight villagers, wielding a variety of crude weapons, desperately fighting the beast. Although the villagers had clearly trained in some basic martial skills, their strength barely reached the second or third layer of the Body Refining stage.
In contrast, the Ironback Centipede was equivalent to a tenth-layer Body Refining beast, its monstrous physique naturally superior to that of humans. Known for its formidable defense, the Ironback Centipede’s metal-like shell was practically impenetrable, making these ordinary villagers no match for it.
One villager, eyes blazing red, charged forward with a giant hammer and swung it down on the centipede. The beast, seeing the incoming attack, didn’t even bother to dodge. It simply twisted its body slightly, presenting its metallic back.
Clang!
The hammer struck with a loud, metallic thud, like hitting a solid steel wall. The villager staggered back from the recoil, while the centipede remained unscathed. With a flick of its massive tail, the centipede sent the villager flying, blood spurting from his mouth before he crashed unconscious to the ground.
Emboldened by its success, the centipede’s aggression intensified. Its half-meter-long mandibles gleamed menacingly as it lunged at the villagers, completely disregarding their frantic attempts to fend it off. For the centipede, the villagers’ attacks were nothing more than annoying tickles.
One villager, directly in the centipede’s path, froze in terror as the creature’s mandibles zoomed toward him. His legs buckled, and he found himself unable to dodge. Death seemed inevitable as the mandibles closed in, ready to pierce his chest.
Suddenly, a blurry figure appeared before him. The mandibles struck, but—
Clang!
Crack!
A thunderous clash echoed alongside a sharp snapping sound. The figure stood motionless, while the enormous centipede was violently flung back as if struck by a speeding train. The beast flew dozens of meters before crashing into the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
“Wha…”
The villagers stood stunned, staring blankly, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
“May I ask, Immortal, are you from the Azure Cloud Sect?” one of the more observant villagers asked, recognizing the distinctive red robe with black patterns.
“Yes, I am. You should all fall back. I’ll handle this beast,” the newcomer replied calmly.
It was none other than Shen Lian.
Hearing his affirmation, the villagers were overjoyed, breathing sighs of relief as they quickly retreated into the village. One of the villagers, the one saved from the mandibles, glanced back and saw a broken piece of the centipede’s mandible lying on the ground.
“Did… did he just break that? How strong must he be to do something like that?” the villager muttered in disbelief, gazing at Shen Lian’s back.
Shen Lian moved forward, approaching the Ironback Centipede once more. The centipede rolled over on the ground, hissing in pain from its broken mandibles. Enraged, it whipped its massive tail toward Shen Lian.
With a calm expression, Shen Lian lightly leapt over the attack. He didn’t even bother drawing his sword. Instead, he clenched his fist and jumped directly toward the centipede’s head.
Bang!
His punch landed squarely on the centipede’s head. The beast’s upper body, which had been rearing up, was slammed into the ground with a resounding crash, creating a deep crater as its head was buried. Dazed and stunned, the centipede flailed weakly, unable to recover.
Shen Lian landed gently, then approached the centipede’s tail, gripping the sharp spike at its end. Compared to Shen Lian, the centipede’s massive body was akin to a grown man holding a chick. But the seemingly feeble Shen Lian displayed an incredible burst of strength.
With a casual tug, Shen Lian hoisted the centipede by its tail and, with a swift motion, swung it like a bat, smashing it into the ground.
Boom!
The centipede’s colossal form slammed into the earth, causing a thunderous crash. Shen Lian didn’t release his grip, swinging the centipede again in the opposite direction.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The relentless thuds continued, each impact shaking the ground and deeply shocking the watching villagers. Each powerful swing seemed to make the earth tremble, resonating in the villagers’ hearts.
After over a dozen slams, Shen Lian finally let go, tossing the battered centipede aside. The once imposing beast now lay in a pitiful heap. Its armored exoskeleton was covered in cracks and dents, and its once metallic sheen was dulled and covered in dust.
Shen Lian dusted off his hands and stood silently. Behind him, the villagers gulped nervously. They wanted to thank him, but after witnessing his brutal display of strength, they were too intimidated to approach.
Suddenly, the Ironback Centipede’s massive body twitched. The villagers gasped, stumbling back in fear.
“It’s… still alive?”
“Immortal, watch out!”
A villager shouted a warning. Shen Lian remained unfazed, standing his ground.
He knew the centipede wasn’t dead. He had deliberately held back. If he had wanted to kill it, a single punch would have sufficed. But the task required him to uncover the cause of the repeated beast attacks on Chenjia Village, and dead creatures provided no answers.
Typically, Body Refining-level beasts were driven by instinct, attacking when hungry or when their territory was invaded. Most beasts had a natural territorial instinct and wouldn’t easily leave their domain.
Shen Lian couldn’t understand why so many beasts would defy their nature to leave Shadow Forest and frequently target Chenjia Village. By inflicting pain and fear, Shen Lian intended to observe where the centipede would flee, hoping it would lead him to some clues.
The massive centipede writhed on the ground for a while, slowly regaining consciousness. It lifted its head, shook it, and turned to see Shen Lian standing calmly beside it.
At the sight of Shen Lian, the centipede’s enormous eyes shrank in terror. Its body recoiled several meters, curling up defensively. Clearly, the beast was petrified.
Shen Lian smirked, making no further movements. The centipede hesitated for a moment before cautiously extending its body, retreating another half meter.
Shen Lian continued to stand still, showing no intention of attacking. Seeing this, the centipede turned and scurried away as fast as it could, as though Shen Lian were its natural predator. The beast fled with all its might, desperate to escape.
Shen Lian watched as the Ironback Centipede disappeared from view before silently taking off after it, maintaining a discreet pursuit.
Unbeknownst to Shen Lian, far behind him, a faint yellow figure was also trailing quietly, watching his every move.
