Chapter 2: The Aloof Yokohama

So satisfying!

The moment he entered the game, Yunxi instantly switched attitudes.

Not bad, not bad! The player was very satisfied—the prodigal noble had returned to the palace!

But where am I now? Seems like I’m on the rooftop of some residential building… Wait, is my age not quite right?

While exploring earlier, Yunxi had vaguely sensed something unusual about his body. After stopping to examine it, the feeling became even more pronounced.

His arms and legs had shortened, and his height had shrunk considerably. He used to be 180 cm tall, but now he was at most 173 cm.

How old was he at this time? Fifteen? Or just turned sixteen?

Never mind, it’s not important. In any case, he definitely hadn’t started university yet!

How infuriating! Is it because college students and working adults aren’t worthy of being the Savior? Careful, I’ll report your company for secretly engaging in age discrimination!

While muttering to himself, Yunxi began searching for a way down.

Ten minutes passed.

Bad news: Yunxi still hadn’t found the door leading downstairs, nor had he discovered any small tools on his person that could help him escape.

His innate basic skills as the Fourth Calamity—such as [Probe] for living creatures, [Appraise] for inanimate objects, [Nimble Hands] for NPCs, and the player’s backpack with 100 slots—were completely useless on this empty rooftop.

Good news: Yunxi found that he might be able to climb down from one spot. If he mastered the force properly, he might be caught by the semi-open balcony of one of the residents on the floor below.

Relying on this body’s innate good physical strength, Yunxi lowered himself over the edge of the rooftop.

Yunxi realized that the hyper-realism of the Holographic Game had its downsides too.

Unlike his previous gaming experiences, Yunxi now wasn’t tall enough to reach the balcony inside. He had no idea how to swing himself in with the right force.

He wanted to climb back up, but he wasn’t strong enough for that either. If he let go, he would fall straight to the ground below and become a mangled mess.

Yunxi’s Identity Card came with a resurrection skill, so dying wasn’t a big deal.

However, using this skill required sacrificing a special item. And right now, the only special items he had were this set of clothes automatically issued at the game’s start!

Yes, his clothes were even counted as a set. If he used resurrection now, he would lose his clothes and something even more important…

No choice! He could only opt to seek help from the game’s NPCs!

Is there any kind soul? Would any kind soul be willing to save the great Savior who has just descended into this world?

When I successfully save the world, I’ll appoint you as the Banner General and grant you a life of wealth and honor!

It was a lie. After saving the world, he would die. NPCs wanting to gain benefits from him? Not a chance.

… Only dead silence responded to Yunxi.

Really, no one? I’ll sweeten the deal—I’m willing to help you with your Pinduoduo cuts for a lifetime. How about that?!

Still a lie. He didn’t have that much patience. When the time came, he’d just click a couple of times and blame the Pinduoduo program.

… Still no one answered.

Yunxi gradually began sweating profusely.

He looked up at the sky, down at the ground, and at his own trembling arms.

In an instant, overwhelming sorrow welled up in Yunxi’s heart.

I was wrong, I was truly wrong… I never should have started playing this game from the very beginning. If I hadn’t played, I wouldn’t have drawn such a terrible Identity Card. If I hadn’t drawn such a terrible Identity Card, I wouldn’t have been forced into this game, only to end up stranded in such a heartbreaking place…

His sorrow gradually turned into anger, and the flames of his rage burned brighter and brighter.

In the end, when Yunxi caught a glimpse of a white-haired head peeking out from the window below, he felt only a brief moment of shock. There was no relief or joy, only sheer fury.

Fine, fine! So you were here all along? You didn’t come to save me because why? Because you felt you had no obligation to help, is that it?!Such a dark society, such indifferent interpersonal relationships… and he was supposed to be the great Savior here?!

Thanos, Yunxi misses you dearly in Yokohama!

Meanwhile, Gogol, who had merely been stopping by and had no idea why someone had suddenly appeared on the rooftop, chose to observe from a distance: ?

He really had no obligation to help, did he?

He was currently in Yokohama illegally, helping his dear friend investigate information about Fukuchi Ochi.

Besides, he was a pleasure-seeking criminal who did everything in pursuit of freedom, not some kind-hearted police officer.

Moreover, since this black-haired boy could appear here directly, he must be an Esper too—most likely a space-type ability user like himself.

So, what was the point of putting on such a performance now?

Gogol wasn’t sure; he needed to observe further.

Fortunately, Yunxi hadn’t expected an NPC to respond anyway.

Feeling his arms growing weaker, Yunxi took a deep breath and voluntarily let go.

Just before falling, he used [Nimble Hands] on this heartless, wicked NPC as fast as he could.

[Nimble Hands] showed as used, but Yunxi was falling too quickly. He didn’t have enough time to open his Game backpack and check whether his theft had succeeded or if the stolen item could be offered as a sacrifice.

Yunxi simply gave up trying. He flipped two middle fingers at this evil game world.

Yokohama might lose its Savior from now on! Are you happy now?!

If he failed to obtain a sacrificial item other than clothes, he would exit the game immediately upon death! Let the people of this world regret it years later!

But this world… this world that needed a Savior to save it…

Yunxi’s teal eyes gazed at the azure sky above, feeling the weightlessness of free fall.

The wind roared in his ears, his vision blurred into patches of color… Once again, he felt how real this world was.

A faint, indescribable reluctance suddenly welled up in Yunxi’s heart.

Before hitting the ground, he sighed inwardly.

If that white-haired guy knew he was still a new user in this world, would he have treated him this way?

Of course not!

Thud!

Yunxi’s world went completely dark.

Back on the rooftop, after witnessing the strange boy’s fate, Gogol warily pulled his head back in.

How strange, Gogol murmured. Wasn’t he a space-type ability user?

But he had clearly sensed the spatial fluctuation when the boy appeared, and just now…

Just now!

Gogol’s eyes widened slightly as he reached out to touch the spot where the special ability fluctuation had just occurred.

Unsurprisingly, his hand found nothing.

His belongings had been taken away by the other party using a space-type special ability.

Hmm, didn’t expect something like this to happen… but no matter! A clown is an expert at magic tricks!

Gogol activated his special ability, attempting to teleport his possessions back.

His special ability [Overcoat] could connect everything within a 30-meter radius, and his current position was barely 20 meters away from the young man downstairs.

He could retrieve what belonged to him and keep it properly, as a memento of the soul that had gained freedom before his eyes…

Huh? Nothing? Gogol showed a slightly stunned expression.

Buzz buzz. A message from [Rats in the House of the Dead] happened to appear on Gogol’s phone at that moment.

Gogol chose not to check the message. With his special ability activated, the phone displaying a purple rat head was sliced in half and fell to the ground with a dull thud.

Well, sorry about this, my dear friend. I’ve encountered something interesting and don’t plan to leave Yokohama for now, Gogol said with a laugh. Whatever it is, we can talk about it later!

Yunxi had come back to life.

No, strictly speaking, he hadn’t actually died in the first place.

In this incident, his full 30 health points played the second most crucial role.

The most crucial role was played by an NPC who happened to be passing by downstairs carrying supermarket shopping bags.

Yunxi landed on them, and they served as a cushion, preserving Yunxi’s last bit of health. This also led to Yunxi being taken back by their guardian, who happened to be a doctor.

Now, this doctor was sitting by Yunxi’s bedside, introducing himself:

Young man, hello. My name is Mori Rintarō. As you can see, I’m a doctor.

Yunxi casually replied: Oh, hello, Mr. Forest. My name is Yunxi, and I’m a Savior.

Mori Rintarō, whose actual identity was the Port Mafia leader Mori Ōgai: ?

Mori Ōgai chose to ignore the overly absurd parts of Yunxi’s statement and continued: Alright, Yunxi-kun, but my surname is actually Mori, and my given name is Rintarō…

Okay, Rintarō.

It’s Rintarō…

Never mind.

Mori Ōgai decided to change the subject: Young man, while I don’t know why you chose to end your life, jumping from a building in a crowded area clearly isn’t a good choice.

Not only does it show disrespect for your own life, but it also easily affects others. My assistant Dazai-kun was hit by you when you fell…

Yunxi still showed no intention of paying attention to the other person.

He wriggled around in bed a few times, looking at the clinic-like surroundings and the bandages on his body.

His health points were down to just 10, but that wasn’t a big problem! His mobility wasn’t significantly affected!

In that case, it was time to begin exploring as a player!

Wait!

Yunxi suddenly thought of something and opened his player inventory.

He still didn’t know if [Nimble Hands] had been successfully used!

Please, please let it have been successful, and hopefully yielded some valuable items too – after all, he was really broke right now…

The backpack interface unfolded before the player’s eyes. The moment Yunxi saw the small icons representing the items and the accompanying text descriptions, her pupils slightly dilated.
