I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 85
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
After hearing the director’s question, Bai Gaoxing is no longer sleepy.
Not only is he wide awake, but he feels he might even have insomnia tonight.
What is this? A sudden attack?!
Bai Gaoxing turns his head abruptly to look at Li Pu. From this angle, he can only see the man’s profile. Even so, he guesses that Li Pu’s expression must be one of confusion.
But even if Li Pu asks, he wouldn’t know. After all, the matter of Xinghuo… this man has been kept completely in the dark.
Sure enough, after hearing the director’s question, Li Pu ponders for a moment before saying, “Can you say that again? What was the question?”
At this moment, Bai Gaoxing can almost hear his own heartbeat.
What should I do?
Should I stop it or wait for the butcher’s knife to fall?
The latter sounds far too bloody. Maybe he should make a little trouble and interrupt this interview entirely.
Bai Gaoxing lowers his body slightly, pressing his claws down in preparation. The next time Xinghuo’s work is mentioned, he plans to make a loud noise—enough to deafen everyone in the room!
“Of course~” The director, assuming Li Pu didn’t hear clearly, repeats the question. “Let’s talk about the pet you filmed—that is, Dabai’s work…”
Before she can finish speaking, a staff member pulls her aside and hands her a new book.
“Wrong one. Director, the question booklet you’re using is for Doug.”
“Huh?” The director blinks and glances down at the text on the booklet: Q1: Let’s talk about the () work you filmed.
Subconsciously, she fills in the blank with Dabai’s name. Flipping to the title page, she sees Doug’s name clearly written on it.
The director immediately switches books and says, “Sorry about that, the screenwriter isn’t here, and I grabbed the wrong one.” She raises her hand and calls out, “Cut this part out!”
This time, the director carefully confirms the question before continuing. “Tell me about the interesting things that happened while filming with Dabai!”
The confusion in Li Pu’s eyes fades. He thinks for a moment, then begins sharing some stories from the set.
Meanwhile, Bai Gaoxing is drenched in imaginary sweat. Parrots don’t sweat, of course, but his tense body is exhausted to the extreme.
Bai Gaoxing leans against Li Pu’s neck, utterly limp.
Noticing his unusual behavior, Li Pu turns his head slightly and gently touches him.
Bai Gaoxing doesn’t respond, looking listless.
“Dabai seems a little tired,” Li Pu says thoughtfully. After a moment, he adds, “Let’s speed up the interview.”
“No problem,” the director agrees. “I’ll combine the next questions. The second question is: What is the most memorable thing you’ve experienced with Dabai? And the third question: If your companion pet became human, would they be your ideal type?”
“…What did you say?”
Li Pu asks the second question of the night.
It’s clear he’s starting to doubt whether this production team has a legitimate script.
The director grins, eyes squinting. “The last two questions are standardized. Only the first one is personalized. Don’t worry~”
Bai Gaoxing, meanwhile, has completely relaxed. Whatever—so long as they don’t mention short videos, he’s fine with anything. Even getting married? Sure, why not!
In contrast to Bai Gaoxing lying flat, Li Pu takes the question seriously and says, “The most impressive thing… is that Dabai comforted me.”
Meanwhile, the other guests have already moved on to the third question.
“Becoming a human… I’d like that a lot!” Wang Hong nods enthusiastically. “I really like pink, so Pingke should definitely be a handsome guy with pink hair, right?”
The staff smiles. “Do you know that there’s already a character image of Pingke online? He’s the pink-haired handsome guy you just mentioned.”
“Really?” Wang Hong, who has always avoided reading program-related comments, looks surprised. “What’s he like?”
The staff shows her the image.
“Oh, so handsome!” Wang Hong exclaims excitedly. After a moment, she adds, “Are there any white-haired ones?”
“Huh?” The staff, confused by her sudden shift in interest, says, “Yes, there are many. Here, take a look.” The staff finds some images of white-haired boys.
“Tsk tsk tsk.” Wang Hong compares the two pictures. “They make quite the match.”
Staff: “???” So you’re a CP fan, huh?
But I’d suggest you buy the official pairing merchandise!
In the second room, Liu Liang is deep in thought, scratching his head.
“If Susu… became human… she should be a chubby, cute girl, right?”
“According to your imagination,” the staff replies.
“Then I’d really like her,” Liu Liang says, stroking his chin. “And she’d have a bad temper, too. She’d curse like a spoiled child—so cute. I like that.”
Staff: “Oh~~”
It’s like he’s already laid out his ideal partner.
Liu Liang suddenly realizes what he’s said and asks quietly, “Can this part be cut out?”
“Sorry, no,” the staff smiles.
In the third room, Zhang Junjun is deep in silence.
He looks at his dog, and the dog looks back at him.
“Is it okay… if the gender is based on Doug’s original?” he asks.
Staff: “Of course.”
Zhang Junjun thinks for a long time and finally says, “Loyalty, bravery, and passionate love—those are qualities I see in Doug. If he became human, it would align with what I expect in my other half.”
The staff is moved by his words. Indeed, dogs are like that—there’s only you in their eyes.
“Brother Jun, do you like boys too?” the staff jokes. “How about considering me?”
Zhang Junjun touches his nose and coughs, “Well, it’s been legal for the past two years anyway, so I don’t have any particular preferences.” Then he answers the next question, “Sorry, I’m not into your type…”
In the single interview room with Li Pu, the man finally nods.
“Yes.”
“Oh? What do you like about Dabai?” the director asks with interest.
Li Pu thinks for a moment, “…Lively and cute?”
The director is surprised. “So, you like this type?”
Li Pu doesn’t respond.
Clearly, this topic couldn’t go any deeper, or Xinghuo would be blowing up her phone in the middle of the night. The director ponders briefly before asking again, “Have you thought about what Dabai would look like as a human?”
Li Pu shakes his head, “No.”
The director raises her eyebrows. “It seems like you haven’t seen the portraits of you and Dabai online…well, there’s portraits of Dabai!”
Some things are too explosive to mention.
Li Pu shows a slightly surprised expression, “There’s that too?”
Being in the industry, the director is well aware that this movie star doesn’t care much about online content. Her reaction is exactly what she’s hoped for. She shows an expression of “wonder” and excitedly shares: “Here, take a look.”
Li Pu takes the tablet.
“…” The moment he sees the image, Li Pu falls silent.
A memory he has almost forgotten suddenly becomes clear. He suddenly remembers that he has actually seen a portrait of Dabai.
That day, in that group chat…
Because the human form of Dabai in this image is exactly the same as the one from that time.
Li Pu slightly lowers his gaze, his eyes focused on the image.
The white-haired boy sits cross-legged in a softly lit bedroom, holding a soft little yellow chicken pillow, a bright and cheerful smile lighting up his face—radiating the vitality of youth.
And those eyes are especially captivating, shimmering as if reflecting the stars in the sky.
Very beautiful and cute. Li Pu is momentarily distracted, his hand unconsciously rising to his lips, his eyes lingering on the image for a long time.
“Teacher Li? Teacher Li?” The director’s voice brings him back.
“Hmm…” Li Pu looks up.
“If Dabai‘s human form looked like this, what would you think?” the director mischievously asks.
“…I quite like it,” Li Pu replies after a long pause.
The director is stunned.
A trace of disbelief flickers in her eyes—before asking this question, she has already imagined several possible answers from Li Pu, and as per usual, the answer should have been vague, leaving room for interpretation.
But… is he really this straightforward?
This is not in line with Li Pu’s style at all!
The unexpected answer causes the director to pause. She hesitates for a moment before continuing the conversation.
At this moment, Bai Gaoxing, who is perched on Li Pu’s shoulder, is staring intently at the picture on the tablet.
He hisses inwardly. He has to admit that the artists these days are quite skilled. The person in this picture really does resemble him—except for the white hair.
But when he thinks about the fact that the artist must have made the depiction cute, Bai Gaoxing feels a pang of heartbreak.
In his past life, that was probably the most common word used to describe him.
Forget it, I’m used to it.
Bai Gaoxing is so sleepy he can barely keep his eyes open. Anyway, being cute is acceptable.
“Sleep, sleep.” He turns around and nips Li Pu’s ear to urge him, trying to wrap up this dangerous interview.
“Okay, it’s over!” The director’s voice rings out, signaling the end of the session. Li Pu stands up and turns toward the door.
Just before opening the door, the director’s voice comes from behind them: “Get some rest tonight, don’t forget you need to go out tomorrow.”
After leaving the cabin, Li Pu meets the three people who have also finished their interviews.
He gives them a slight nod, says goodnight, and goes upstairs.
“What do you think… How did Teacher Li answer?” One of them can’t help but ask, watching Li Pu’s back as he ascends the stairs.
They have all come out early, and the three of them have been paired up. They realize they have all been asked that strange question.
After hearing the answers from the other pair, they realize they all replied “yes.”
“Now that I think about it, isn’t it a bit perverted…” Liu Liang touches his chin, muttering to himself, “I wonder if Teacher Li is like us.”
“Why don’t you go and ask?” Wang Hong grins.
“Don’t dare… don’t dare…”
…
In the bedroom, Bai Gaoxing, already drowsy, seizes the last opportunity. He leaps onto the bed and presses Li Pu’s phone beneath him.
The director’s words are too dangerous. This way, Li Pu won’t come back to his senses and look at his phone. ZZZ…
And just like that, Bai Gaoxing falls asleep.
Li Pu looks at the parrot, who has suddenly plopped down on the bed, pressed the phone down, and immediately fallen asleep. He slowly withdraws his hand from the phone.
The man stands beside the bed, gazing quietly at the fluffy, snow-white ball for a long time, before finally sighing helplessly.
He slowly lifts a corner of the quilt, careful not to disturb the sleeping parrot, and makes some space for himself.
After a while, he reaches out and tries to shift the soft, warm body, only to receive a few disgruntled grumbles.
Li Pu laughs softly and gently pulls the other corner of the quilt over, covering the parrot.
…
The next day.
“Today’s mission is: go to the location designated by the program group, earn lunch funds according to the activity instructions, and arrive at the designated picnic spot by noon,” Zhang Junjun reads aloud from the card.
Good! It’s time to go out and play again!
After a long sleep, Bai Gaoxing feels refreshed. When he wakes up in the morning, he finds his mobile phone still under him, which makes him feel secure. The only downside is that it is a bit uncomfortable.
He stands in the bird bag, raises his claws to scratch his chest, shakes his feathers, and waits for the next activity.
“The three of us need to go to the shop next door first. Teacher Li seems to be going straight to the square where most people gather,” Wang Hong says, also carrying a bird bag. “The director said someone would be there to pick us up.”
“Here,” Liu Liang points to the map.
Bai Gaoxing takes the opportunity to take a look. It’s a bit far away. The map indicates that it can be reached by bus.
“Then, shall we act separately?” Li Pu asks.
The three agree unanimously.
It is still early in the morning, with the sky just starting to brighten, and there aren’t many people in the scenic area yet, though it is becoming more crowded. From a distance, they can already see a few figures standing at the bus stop.
Li Pu, with the bird bag on his back, walks to the bus stop to wait.
Suddenly, he seems to remember something, looks down, and meets the gaze of the large white parrot in the bag.
It seems the mission isn’t going well.
Bai Gaoxing and Li Pu, as if in sync, think of the same problem.
At the moment, they have not a single penny between them.
