I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 84
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
To enhance the enjoyment of the afternoon’s activities, the program team specially arranges an afternoon tea session.
Guests sip drinks, enjoy snacks, and interact with their pets while engaging in casual conversation.
Incidentally, today’s sponsor, featured prominently in the camera advertisement, is disinfectant wipes.
Bai Gaoxing surveys the scene from a high vantage point, clearly pleased with the variety of snacks provided by the program team. Just as he prepares to swoop down for a treat, Liu Liang arrives with two large plates, announcing, “The snacks for pets are here too~.”
Bai Gaoxing’s eyes lock onto the offerings:
Dog food? No.
Dried fish? No.
Lettuce? Definitely not.
Fruit? Acceptable.
Biscuits? Acceptable.
Having identified his target, Bai Gaoxing spreads his wings, descends gracefully, snatches a biscuit, and dashes off.
Liu Liang freezes for a moment before chasing after him. “Wait! Don’t eat that!”
Bai Gaoxing flaps his wings with extra vigor, landing in a secure spot where he takes a triumphant bite to show off.
Out of breath, Liu Liang puts his hands on his hips and calls out, “Dog biscuits… Can Dabai eat them?”
Bai Gaoxing freezes.
The biscuit in his mouth suddenly loses all appeal.
“It’s fine,” Wang Hong interjects with a chuckle. “My Pingke eats dog food all the time and loves it.”
Bai Gaoxing: “…”
Nope. Not happening.
He flaps his wings and flies off.
The pink parrot perched on Wang Hong’s shoulder tilts its head, then flies over to snatch the biscuit.
“Pingke! You shameless suck-up!” Wang Hong exclaims, frustrated.
Almost forgot about that.
Bai Gaoxing quickly turns back, reclaims the biscuit, and, showing great civic responsibility, tosses it into the trash can.
Wang Hong is stunned.
Then she slaps her leg and laughs. “See? Even the parrot disapproves!”
Pingke stares blankly at his now-empty claws for a long time before finally letting out a soft “Caw.”
The footage featuring the guests is soon ready. The order, determined by a draw, is Doug Yaya, Pingke, and then Dabai.
“In fact, before this season of Cute Pet Diary began filming, fans were already excited,” the director’s voiceover announces. “They send countless messages asking when we’ll release footage of the guests interacting with their pets.”
“After much discussion, we decided to showcase it today.”
“Let’s see how everyone bonds with their adorable pets at home~!”
As the voiceover ends, the big screen lights up, starting with Doug’s VCR.
Bai Gaoxing forces himself to stay calm, though his mind drifts. He stares at the big screen, feigning interest but clearly distracted.
If the production crew really has a video of Xinghuo, then… then just pin the blame on the company first!
After all, the program is still being filmed, and they can’t verify anyone’s testimony yet.
Bai Gaoxing calmly analyzes the situation: since the company assumes that the current Xinghuo video was shot by Li Pu, then the reverse is also completely plausible. Perhaps Li Pu thinks the company filmed it instead!
But no matter what, it is safest to avoid the Xinghuo footage entirely.
The production crew absolutely can’t get their hands on the material he shot!
Bai Gaoxing’s feathers bristle with tension.
Except for the few times he considers revealing his identity to Li Pu at the beginning, he now feels it’s better not to.
Remaining as a parrot means he and Li Pu can interact naturally and easily. Any extraordinary actions he takes would simply be seen as the cleverness of a pet. But if Li Pu finds out the truth and starts treating him as a person, that relaxed dynamic would likely vanish.
And… the way Li Pu looks at him would definitely change.
That is something Bai Gaoxing doesn’t want to face.
Most importantly, Li Pu might develop a psychological scar!
Bai Gaoxing can’t help but empathize. If a pet turns out to be a person, wouldn’t just thinking about it give someone nightmares?
For example, imagine relaxing at home, doing your own thing, enjoying some alone time—only to realize a pair of intelligent eyes has been secretly watching you from the shadows the whole time.
How terrifying!
Bai Gaoxing shudders at the thought, nibbling on his claws in distraction. Suddenly, Liu Liang, who is sitting next to him, stuffs a vegetable leaf into his claws.
He chews it absentmindedly. Ugh, it tastes awful.
But it is something to kill time. Bai Gaoxing moves his tongue and spits out a mouthful of green foam.
Time passes as the videos on the big screen play one after another, immersing the living room in a relaxing atmosphere.
Wang Hong glances over and notices the stark difference in eating habits between the big white parrot and her own pink parrot.
The snow-white parrot eats slowly, keeping its pristine feathers spotless.
Meanwhile, her parrot, Pingke, has just chewed on a small tomato and now looks like it has become part of a crime scene.
Wang Hong sighs in admiration, “Dabai eats so elegantly~”
Li Pu glances over and says, “…Because it thinks it tastes awful.”
Wang Hong blinks. “Huh?”
At that moment, the big screen begins playing Li Pu’s video.
By some uncanny coincidence, the first clip to appear is the one of Bai Gaoxing at home, gnawing on rape leaves.
For a brief moment, the scene on the screen perfectly mirrors reality.
“Is it delicious?” Li Pu’s voice echoes from the video.
The parrot on-screen whimpers, “You’re abusing me.”
The guests erupt in laughter, some even doubling over, while the parrot in question sits there, deeply offended.
Bai Gaoxing’s feathers bristle, his crest puffing up in alarm.
This embarrassing footage still exists?!
Before long, all the clips have been played.
Bai Gaoxing takes a Buddhist approach to summarizing the situation.
Among the four guests, the others carefully and deliberately showcase their pets’ best moments. Whether staged or not, as long as it looks impressive, it’s good enough. Only Li Pu genuinely records their daily life—or, more accurately, captures moments for comedic effect. Either way, the variety show impact is fantastic.
Forget about maintaining dignity—just let it go!
Besides, Li Pu comes off as really funny in the video.
He truly loves me.
With the mindset of dragging everyone down together, Bai Gaoxing shouts loudly, “I want—meat!”
“You want meat? Let Teacher Li make it for you.” Wang Hong laughs even harder. “Teacher Li, let’s have meat tonight!”
“Don’t get too excited,” the program team interjects. “These works were all prepared by the guests themselves. Next, we’ll select the most impactful clips from each guest.”
The faces of the three people and the parrot freeze simultaneously.
Wang Hong recalls herself weeding in the strawberry greenhouse, wearing a hoodie, covered in dirt, looking like a refugee, and with her hair braided into a messy nest…
Zhang Junjun remembers walking with Doug and encountering a swimming female German Shepherd. Doug drags him into the lake, forcing him to swim 200 meters with him…
Liu Liang pictures himself shopping with Susu and stopping by a roast duck restaurant. He even lets Susu nibble on a duck head…
Meanwhile, Bai Gaoxing reflects on the ninety-nine masterpieces he works so hard to shoot.
No matter which one gets picked… Oh no!
Bai Gaoxing inhales sharply.
The staff smiles. “Whose clip should we watch first?”
“Theirs!” The three immediately point at each other.
Li Pu, however, stays out of it entirely.
Shocked, Bai Gaoxing quickly flies to Li Pu’s hand, grabs one of his fingers, and points it at the others.
Li Pu: “…?”
This moment is later edited into a classic animated clip. The production team, brimming with mischief, pans through the four of them before announcing, “Let’s go in the same order as before.”
The three guests force strained smiles. “Fine.”
As the first up, Zhang Junjun’s expression remains particularly composed, but his clenched fists betray his inner tension.
Is he really that nervous?
Bai Gaoxing notices this detail and grows curious.
Next, he witnesses what it means to struggle and create chaos—a clip of Doug dragging Zhang Junjun into a late-night lake swim for the sake of a pretty female dog. This escapade ultimately alarms nearby passersby, who mistake Zhang Junjun for someone attempting suicide and call the police. The officers proceed to comfort the young man, advising him that life is worth living.
Social death. Absolute, catastrophic social death.
“My teammates see this on the news and call me… Then the whole squad knows about it.” The usually composed tough guy says this with a calm tone but reaches up to wipe his face, unable to hide his embarrassment.
“…That’s rough.” Liu Liang pats his shoulder sympathetically but can’t help giving an encouraging smile.
But when it’s his turn, Liu Liang can’t laugh.
Because the program team pulls out a video showcasing his most humiliating moment.
“It’s over. I’m terrified of you all for doing this,” Wang Hong mutters, looking visibly shaken. After hearing that the clips selected by the team for the others were exactly the ones they find most socially disastrous, she adds, “Turns out the one who knows you best is yourself.”
Hearing this, Bai Gaoxing’s little head spins furiously.
Social death?
Do I have any socially embarrassing videos?
No way!
Reflecting on the clips he films, most of them are serious, or at worst, a little silly or funny—nothing that could qualify as “social death.”
So… could it be something else?
Flapping his wings in relief, Bai Gaoxing feels a glimmer of hope.
“It’s finally over,” Wang Hong says, visibly relieved. Having endured her own segment, she exhales deeply. “Now we can watch Teacher Li’s clip.”
“Let’s watch it~~” Bai Gaoxing chirps with newfound courage, feeling unafraid.
Li Pu chuckles and gives him a light pat on the head.
The next moment, Lei Li’s figure appears on the big screen.
After confirming that it’s not Li Pu’s “Xinghuo” videos, Bai Gaoxing is completely relieved.
Nothing that comes next matters. If the riskiest clip is off the table, he’s invincible!
But… why does this background look so familiar?
Bai Gaoxing narrows his eyes, carefully studying the surroundings in the video. It looks like… the company?
The memory feels distant. He can’t immediately place the exact location but concludes that Lei Li must’ve recorded it when he wasn’t paying attention. Was it something from his sleep? Did he curse Li Pu in a dream or something?
Then, Lei Li’s cheerful voice rings out from the screen: “A call from Dabai’s Master.”
A bad feeling surges through him.
Bai Gaoxing’s heart sinks sharply, but before he can remember what happens during that moment, a sweet, syrupy voice rings out from the screen:
“Master~~~”
Ah—
Ahhh—!
AHHHHHHHH—!!!
He remembers now.
It’s from that time he teamed up with his agent for some antics, thinking it would be funny to act out a skit.
But… why does it feel so suffocating now, when it seemed so amusing back then?!
Bai Gaoxing looks around the room in a daze and realizes everyone—except Li Pu—desperately tries to suppress their laughter.
The program team has gone all out, creating a ridiculous ghost-style video. One loop of “Master~~~Master~~~Master~~~” isn’t enough; they make sure it echoes repeatedly throughout the living room.
Was this aimed at Li Pu’s social demise, or mine?!
Bai Gaoxing’s mind buzzes with embarrassment, and the next thing he knows, he’s crawling across the floor in utter shame.
But crawling makes his chest ache, so he decides to roll instead.
The guests in the living room are dumbfounded.
The big white parrot, who is perfectly fine just moments ago, suddenly stiffens as if struck by lightning, topples onto the carpet, and begins clawing and crawling. Moments later, it starts rolling around as though trying to shake off imaginary lice.
“What’s going on?!”
The video is entirely forgotten as everyone gathers around to check on the parrot. Even Doug, the dog, comes over to sniff curiously.
Let me just die, Bai Gaoxing thinks, staring at the ceiling in despair and tilting his head to avoid Doug’s damp nose.
“Teacher Li, what’s wrong with Dabai?” someone asks.
Li Pu squeezes through the crowd and crouches next to Bai Gaoxing. Observing the bird’s antics, he guesses, “He’s probably just bored.”
This isn’t an unusual sight at home. Li Pu has often caught Dabai rolling on the sofa, bed, or floor while he reads scripts.
He isn’t wrong.
Hearing this, Bai Gaoxing stops his dramatics, climbs back onto his feet with an expressionless face, and flies up to perch on Li Pu’s shoulder.
If he keeps this up, the program team might call in a vet. That would be the real social death.
Thankfully, dinner time is approaching, and after confirming that Dabai is “back to normal,” the program team suggests preparing the meal.
The good news? Dinner includes plenty of meat.
“Red-braised pork, twice-cooked pork, stewed pork ribs with potatoes… Wow, tonight’s menu is incredible!”
“What are you staring at? Teacher Li made this for Dabai, haha~”
“It’s a shame that Dabai can only eat a little bit. The rest is for us!”
“Don’t overdo it!” The program team hurriedly intervenes as the guests start eating like starving wolves. “We’ve still got individual interviews to do after this.”
Ah, another individual interview.
Ah, another individual interview, Bai Gaoxing thinks, yawning. The tension from the day has left him utterly exhausted. He quickly finishes eating and is ready for bed.
After dinner, he and Li Pu are led to a small room for the interview.
The setting is familiar: the same camera, the same director, and the same whiteboard for prompts.
Bai Gaoxing lets out a long yawn, prompting the director to laugh. “Oh, feeling sleepy?”
She turns to Li Pu. “Let’s get started quickly so Dabai can go to bed.”
Li Pu nods. “Alright, let’s get started.”
The director pulls out a notebook, flipping through it before landing on a page and reading aloud, “Talk about the works you’ve filmed featuring Dabai.”
Li Pu thinks for a moment. “The works… those would be The Long Song clips, right?”
The director coughs lightly and clarifies, “I mean the everyday clips you’ve taken—like the ones for Weibo, Xinghuo, behind-the-scenes footage, all of it. Didn’t you record quite a lot?”
Li Pu is taken aback.
“Huh…?”
