I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 79
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
A Beautiful Morning
The first floor of the small villa is quiet.
A white shadow glides down from the second floor, its broad wings held steady and level, making almost no noise.
Great, no one notices.
Bai Gaoxing glances back up the stairs. After confirming there are no familiar figures, he sneaks into the kitchen.
He remembers that the fried shrimp balls from last night are still out! There are also crispy corn and squid rings!
Sure enough, on the clean table, several plates are covered.
Do they really think this can stop him?
Bai Gaoxing flies to the table with ease, stretches out his claws, and lifts the cover—!
“Dabai.” A faint voice comes from upstairs.
Bai Gaoxing immediately retracts his claw and droops his “injured” wing. “Caw, caw…”
“Don’t pretend. You’ve been fine for a long time,” Li Pu says coldly.
Bai Gaoxing lets out a pitiful whimper but folds his wing back in.
Li Pu quickly comes to the kitchen, picks up one of the dishes, and puts it in the refrigerator. They stayed up late last night working on a project and forgot to put the leftovers away.
The table is very close to the refrigerator. Seeing that Li Pu is almost finished putting the dishes away, Bai Gaoxing quickly opens the cover when Li Pu turns around, snatches a fried shrimp ball, and flies away with a guilty conscience.
Li Pu: “…”
Looking at the parrot’s completely unrepentant behavior, Li Pu deeply regrets that he has indulged Dabai these past few days when it had been injured, letting it eat whatever it wanted at every meal.
And Dabai seems to understand why, cleverly finding a way to trick him—like pretending to be injured when caught eating secretly to avoid being scolded.
If Li Pu isn’t worried that the parrot might suffer adverse effects from eating too much human food, he actually applauds Dabai‘s cleverness.
With a sigh, Li Pu walks toward the parrot, who is “destroying the evidence.”
As expected, Bai Gaoxing keeps eating shrimp as fast as he can. He catches a glimpse of Li Pu approaching from the corner of his eye and tenses up, ready to ditch the stolen goods and run. But then, the screenwriter from the opposite production team rushes out the door and says, “Have you seen the trending topic?”
Bai Gaoxing’s takeoff is interrupted. He stares at the other person, confused.
Li Pu also asks, “What trending topic?”
“…This one.”
A few minutes later, the four guests gather together to watch the latest trending topic with the production team.
“The second episode of Cute Pet Diary,” says Liu Liang as they find the keyword. “What about it?”
“Look further up,” the director replies.
Since the filming of Cute Pet Diary began and the fixed live broadcasts started every day, related topics frequently appear in Weibo’s hot searches. However, those topics rarely make it to the top spots before. Even when they do, they’re quickly overshadowed by newer news, unlike now…
“#1!? It’s trending?” Liu Liang exclaims before reading out the title, “The perfect cooperation between Dabai and Doug. Could this really not be special effects…?”
He looks up and asks, “Wasn’t this old news?”
The director has a strange expression. “Click on it and see.”
Could it be about my heroic figure?
Bai Gaoxing eagerly comes over to join in the fun. To be honest, he has seen the photos taken by passers-by before, but they were all blurry and didn’t showcase his handsome side. Plus, the production team has deleted some of them, so there isn’t much left to see.
He hops onto Li Pu’s shoulder, finds a good angle, and lowers his head
—
The blogger is @IWantToGraduate! According to the introduction, he is a college student majoring in photography who usually posts beautiful scenery and videos he captures around him.
On Weibo, he excitedly shares his feelings about being able to capture this moment, expressing a bit of disbelief.
【I came to Jingcheng today for a specific reason! I don’t expect this! I feel like this video could be used in a movie… Of course, I’m sure this isn’t a movie plot! #Bai Gaoxing and Doug’s perfect teamwork, could this really not be special effects?#】
On the phone screen, the cameraman’s perspective is very low, almost capturing only the lower body and thighs. This height perfectly frames Doug. Amidst the dense crowd, with varying walking speeds, you can see a German Shepherd suddenly appear from the crowd not far away, making its way toward the stone steps by the riverbank as if being pushed forward.
Bai Gaoxing feels something is wrong.
“Doug is waiting for me.” Zhang Junjun interrupts, “If we get separated, he’ll definitely stay there and wait for me to come back.”
“Woof!”
The video continues.
It smoothly moves forward, showing Doug sitting in the same spot. But the next moment, this image of Doug waiting for his owner is broken as a large, snow-white bird lands on the military dog and flaps its wings rapidly.
“Dabai?” The director pauses and looks up at Li Pu. “Wasn’t Dabai in the bird bag? Did you let it out?”
“No.” Li Pu is also confused. “Dabai must have opened the bag itself.”
“Impressive~” Wang Hong exclaims.
Li Pu shows a helpless expression.
Wang Hong adds, “But doesn’t this also mean Bai Gaoxing doesn’t just run off? He knows to come back after flying out.”
Li Pu replies, “Maybe…?”
After thinking about it, Li Pu realizes that when he brings Dabai back, the parrot doesn’t show any signs of wanting to escape. Even when it secretly follows him downstairs, it comes back as soon as Li Pu calls it…
Thinking this over, Li Pu glances at the parrot, only to find it avoiding his gaze for some reason.
…I still feel like I can’t trust it too easily.
At this moment, Bai Gaoxing is already frozen.
Even when Pingke leans in and whispers, “What’s wrong with you, beautiful lady?”, he doesn’t respond.
It’s over. He thinks. Who would have guessed that someone would take a video in such a chaotic situation?
Bai Gaoxing nervously watches the faces of everyone present, all of whom are focused on the video on Weibo.
As he frantically thinks about how to play dumb and make it more convincing, the video progress bar reaches the end.
“That’s it?”
Liu Liang is puzzled and drags the video back to the beginning to watch it again.
The video clearly starts with Doug appearing on screen and ends with the white parrot landing on him and grabbing the straps on his vest. The whole thing only lasts a few dozen seconds.
The crowd who comes to Weibo to find out the truth has varying reactions.
【This shot! So impactful!】
【Am I the only one shocked by how well-behaved they are in the crowd? Especially Dabai—there are so many people around, but he’s not scared at all.】
【Well… can we just say he’s socially successful? Or, better yet, just say he’s become a spirit.】
【The parrot riding the dog, it feels like an anime~】
Aside from those who think the trending topic is overly exaggerated and are a bit confused, most netizens react well, thinking this must be a gimmick created by the blogger to grab attention.
…So, they don’t capture it?
Bai Gaoxing calms down a little.
But the director doesn’t think so. She says, “I think there might be more, but I’m not sure why it wasn’t all posted.”
The others in the room understand what she means. This is a common situation. Like on websites, sometimes private photos are more valuable, and the official accounts will pay to acquire them.
The director is hinting at this as well. “I’ve already asked someone to contact the blogger. If there’s any follow-up, we’ll reach out.”
Bai Gaoxing takes a deep breath again.
Please, let it not have been filmed, please let it not have been filmed, please let it not have been filmed… Bai Gaoxing prays fervently.
He is so nervous all day and can’t muster the energy for anything.
In the afternoon, Li Pu takes him to Dr. An Lu again.
“Oh, what’s wrong? Dabai looks so listless.” An Lu, still eating a box lunch, puts down her chopsticks when she sees the parrot.
Bai Gaoxing is lost in his thoughts.
He can’t help but wonder about all the possible outcomes if the video is exposed, including but not limited to: how to play dumb, how to act clueless within reason, how to use simple, effective, and unpretentious methods to let the other guests know he can imitate voices—he remembers doing this in front of Li Pu a few times, but based on this man’s personality, he definitely wouldn’t bring it up with anyone else…
His brain is working overtime, and the little brain of this parrot is about to burn out.
Bai Gaoxing’s crest droops sadly.
“Did you eat something bad?” Li Pu asks, mentioning the fried shrimp balls Bai Gaoxing secretly snatched earlier that morning.
The way she says it, it’s like blaming all a child’s problems on playing with a phone.
“Could be…” An Lu turns him around, “Is the stool normal?”
“Normal.”
“It doesn’t seem sick…” An Lu looks a little puzzled. “Let’s observe it first.” She changes the subject. “But try not to feed it fried food, give it something healthy instead.”
Bai Gaoxing stares at her quietly. Do you know how much happiness this little parrot will lose once you say that?
However, An Lu doesn’t catch his gaze. She thinks for a moment, then pulls out a bag of snacks from the drawer. “It just so happens I have some pet snacks here—share some with Pingke and the others!”
Dried meat, dried fruit, various grains.
Dog snacks, parrot snacks, and even duck snacks.
Once in the living room, Dr. An Lu hands out the snacks to the guests.
“This brand of snacks? Pingke likes it the most.” Wang Hong looks at it and inadvertently promotes the brand again.
The parrot snacks come in a large cereal box, mixed with various dried fruits and vegetables, with a faint fruity aroma.
The pink parrot picks through the box and pulls out a red item.
But instead of eating it, it hops over to Bai Gaoxing and offers it to him. “Here you go!”
Bai Gaoxing isn’t in the mood. He doesn’t even glance at it and mutters sullenly, “Eat it yourself.”
The pink parrot doesn’t get the hint. “Don’t be so considerate to me, you eat~”
Bai Gaoxing: “…”
Wang Hong has already noticed the interaction and raises her phone—she has seen how much Pingke likes Dabai over the past few days. Even she doesn’t understand why Pingke is so obsessed with Dabai.
But though she doesn’t understand, she sees clearly that Pingke doesn’t seem to leave much of an impression on Dabai.
The pink parrot waits quietly for a response. When none comes, he doesn’t wait any longer. He places the snack in front of Bai Gaoxing, then hops off to find something else to eat.
Bai Gaoxing pauses for a moment, then feels hunger creeping in. He lowers his head and takes a bite of what Pingke has brought over.
“Gah!??”
It’s so spicy!
Bai Gaoxing jumps up and down, flapping his wings to try and blow some air into his mouth, but it doesn’t help.
Finally, he sees what Pingke has brought over—damn, chili pepper!
Bai Gaoxing stares wide-eyed, noticing that Pingke has a red chili pepper in his paw as well.
But his expression is normal.
Seeing Bai Gaoxing looking over, Pingke takes another bite.
Bai Gaoxing is a bit dumbfounded. He can’t tell if Pingke is the abnormal one, or if it’s him. So, embarrassed, he flies to the living room to drink some water.
However, the pain and numbness don’t go away.
He opens his mouth to gulp down the air, and when he returns to the table, everyone turns to look at him.
“Haha, did you get burned by the spice?” Zhang Junjun is the first to laugh.
“Impossible! Parrots can’t feel spice,” Wang Hong also laughs. “See, it’s a blind spot in your knowledge~”
“Dabai might’ve just… eaten too quickly and hurt his tongue,” Liu Liang adds.
An Lu nods and turns to Li Pu. “Chili peppers are rich in vitamins, you can let him eat them in moderation.”
Bai Gaoxing is stunned.
It seems like there is some truth to that—parrots can’t feel spice, so that means he’s the abnormal one?
But then again, he isn’t really a parrot… But now that he has become one, he doesn’t have the taste buds a parrot is supposed to have.
Why is this?
Maybe it’s a good thing after all. This adventure has allowed him to try human delicacies…
Bai Gaoxing feels a little down. He isn’t fond of spicy food. Even now, as a parrot, he can’t drink spicy soup without flinching.
He can’t fake it. But before he can feel too sorry for himself, the director informs the guests that the second episode has already started.
The activities for Cute Pet Diary Season 6 in Jing City don’t end that day. After much deliberation, the production team decides to save what happened on the first day for the end of the episode.
They also edit out some parts that could be manipulated and focus on highlighting the incidents involving Zhang Junjun and Li Pu, as well as the brave confrontation between Doug and Big Bai against the villains.
The netizens are excited and nervous, and with the police notice that has surfaced a few days ago, the ratings reach an all-time high since the show began airing!
【I’m so scared! Who would’ve thought that person was carrying a knife? What if… I can’t even think about it!】
【I’ll be the first to say that the human traffickers should die! Pah!】
【It makes me anxious, angry, and want to cry… Luckily, everyone’s okay..】
【Brother Junjun’s biceps, wow, I swear I think that guy’s arm is about to snap.】
【Dabai’s bite, no way it could’ve really snapped it, that beak can cut lead wire 23333.】
【Look at Doug, even though the key parts are pixelated, you can tell from the color that it’s a bloody mess—】
But what really pushes that night to its climax is the new Weibo post from @IWantToGraduate!
【There’s something wrong with the machine… My classmates and friends contact me, and I realize I’ve accidentally cut half of the video and sent it out. I’m so sleepy, I sleep all day. I’m really sorry, I’ll post the full version below.】
After the snow-white parrot lands on the military dog, it grabs the belt and flies up, as if trying to direct the dog. However, Doug doesn’t understand and just wags his tail.
But the next second, the German Shepherd’s expression changes from lazy to sharp. It sniffs the ground, its focus shifting.
In the noisy background, a voice belonging to Zhang Junjun stands out, particularly deep.
“Doug, go!”
In the living room of the villa, Zhang Junjun’s straight back suddenly becomes even stiffer.
“I’m more than ten meters away from Doug at the time,” he says, surprised. “I don’t remember giving any orders.”
Li Pu frowns, deep in thought.
The video continues to play.
The snow-white parrot enters the frame, opens its beak, and a deep male voice comes out: “Doug, pounce!”
The moment Doug receives the command, he immediately goes into combat mode and lunges at the man.
The truth is revealed.
The living room falls into silence.
Everyone is first in disbelief, then turns their astonished gazes toward the parrot on the table.
And to its owner, Li Pu.
Bai Gaoxing silently backs away, stepping further back.
Uh, you guys… let me explain—
