Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

At this moment, the snow-white parrot nests against the man’s face, panting heavily, looking quite angry.

What happens?

Everyone in the restaurant stares as Dabai suddenly begins plucking his own feathers, surprising them all. Their attention quickly shifts to Li Pu, who now holds one of the feathers.

Li Pu frowns slightly, worry flickering in his eyes.

The feather hasn’t fallen far but lands on his collar. After a couple of attempts, he carefully plucks the feather from his shirt.

It is a snow-white tail feather—slender, with a rounded tip. Perfectly neat and beautiful, it still retains a trace of warmth from Dabai’s body.

This scene should be amusing, even endearing, but Li Pu’s thoughts turn grim. He remembers the initial time Dabai starts pecking at his feathers.

Is this a relapse of his psychological issues?

Concerned, Li Pu gently grabs the parrot off his shoulder and inspects its chest.

It is still round and plump, soft and docile beneath his touch.

Bai Gaoxing, however, seems uninterested in Li Pu’s examination. Turning to Pingke, he squawks, “See that!”

“Gah!” Pingke, the pink parrot, responds with a wounded expression, quickly followed by a flare of anger. “He’s just a human!”

What a strange remark.

Bai Gaoxing glares, his patience wearing thin. “So what? I like humans!”

Pingke retorts, “But I like you! So I have to hate him!”

This kid is impossible!

Bai Gaoxing is certain he has been deceived by Pingke’s initial shyness— Was this the same parrot who barely spoke because he was too timid to even look at him? He isn’t the reserved type at all!

The restaurant falls silent as everyone watches the two parrots bicker mid-air. The snow-white one is particularly loud, its feathers puffed up like fireworks.

Suddenly, Wang Hong’s chuckle breaks the tension, startling everyone.

Li Pu glances at her, silently questioning her with his eyes.

“Hahaha… I just think this is hilarious,” Wang Hong says, covering her mouth as her cheeks turn red. “Pingke plucks feathers for Dabai, but Dabai plucks feathers for you, Teacher Li…”

However, she doesn’t mention the most amusing part—the man holding the feather looks as if he is facing a dire threat, which makes the whole situation even funnier.

“Plucking feathers… why?” Li Pu’s expression remains serious.

Wang Hong coughs to compose herself and explains, “Plucking feathers is a courtship behavior.”

Li Pu freezes in shock.

“Parrots give their feathers to the one they’re pursuing,” Wang Hong continues, “especially their most treasured feathers. If they only pluck one, it’s for their chosen mate.”

She glances at her pink parrot. “Pingke has given me a few feathers before, but I didn’t expect him to do this during the show…”

Wang Hong straightens her expression. “It seems Pingke has fallen for Dabai.”

Li Pu: “…Pingke is a girl?”

Wang Hong: “Huh? Isn’t Dabai a girl?”

Li Pu: “…”

Wang Hong: “…”

Wang Hong quickly adds, “Well, maybe Pingke is just smitten by Dabai’s beauty. Pingke can be quite the hopeless romantic.”

Li Pu doesn’t comment.

He turns his gaze to the snow-white parrot perched on his arm. It has to be said, Dabai does look stunning—soft, pure feathers and an undeniably charming demeanor. Perhaps in the parrot world, Dabai truly is the type to be ardently pursued.

Li Pu twirls the feather in his hand and considers placing it into his jacket pocket.

“Don’t!” Wang Hong suddenly exclaims, breaking the moment.

Li Pu looks at her, puzzled.

Wang Hong hurries to explain, “You can’t accept it! This is a parrot’s way of proposing. If you keep it, Dabai will think you’ve accepted him as your mate. If you ever get close to other birds in the future, he’ll be jealous, angry, and maybe even depressed!”

Li Pu pauses.

Wang Hong continues, her tone growing graver. “Worse, he might start plucking all his feathers out!”

Bai Gaoxing, who has been quietly listening, freezes, dumbfounded.

…That’s not me! That’s not true! It’s not like that at all!

Equally shocked are Liu Liang and Zhang Junjun, who both wear expressions of newfound enlightenment, nodding repeatedly.

“So what should I do?” Li Pu asks.

Wang Hong is at a loss as well.

Wang Hong frowns, clearly conflicted. “Normally, you’d need to throw it away in front of him. But if you do that, he might ignore you forever.”

Li Pu twists the feather again in thought and turns to Wang Hong. “How did you handle it with Pingke?”

Wang Hong coughs awkwardly. “Pingke’s a bit naive and doesn’t hold grudges. I pretended to throw away the feathers, but I actually kept them tucked in the pages of a book.”

Just throw it away already!

Bai Gaoxing stares intently at Li Pu, his eyes practically glowing. He even places a claw on Li Pu’s hand—as if to say, Fine, I’ll do it myself if I have to!

Li Pu glances at Dabai, thinks for a moment, then moves the feather back and forth in his hand a few times.

Bai Gaoxing’s gaze follows every movement of the feather.

Seeing how worried the parrot seems about him discarding the feather, Li Pu chuckles softly. After some thought, he finally places the feather into his jacket pocket.

“Alright, I’ll take responsibility for it,” he says with a smile in his eyes.

Bai Gaoxing freezes, staring blankly at Li Pu. For a moment, he looks almost foolish.

Pingke’s earlier words suddenly echo in his mind: Men and men can be together… Men? I like it more…

In all his 18 years, Bai Gaoxing has never seriously considered matters of the heart. His brain short-circuits. His body, however, acts faster than his thoughts. In one swift motion, he lunges forward, trying to grab the feather with his beak to throw it away—No way! We’re completely different species! There’s reproductive isolation!

Although it makes no difference whether there are two men or not.

Li Pu lowers his head to watch the parrot rummaging around on his chest. Thinking it just wants to get closer to him, he reaches out his palm and gently presses the fluffy little head against his own chest.

Bai Gaoxing freezes, unable to move.

Wang Hong, watching this heartwarming display of bond between pet and owner, gets carried away by her emotions. She turns to her own parrot, Pingke, and says, “Pingke, look! Your proposal failed. Dabai already has someone in his heart.”

She extends her hand. “Give it to me. I’ll keep it for you.”

Pingke tilts his head and takes a few steps back, clutching the feather tightly in his beak.

Clearly, he doesn’t want to give it to her.

Wang Hong cries out in mock pain, “Do you not love your mom anymore? You used to give it to me!”

Pingke, still holding the feather, seems intent on running toward Bai Gaoxing instead.

Wang Hong gasps, “You’ve abandoned your owner for a pretty face!”

Fortunately, it is free time after the evening activities, and the group quickly disperses, bringing an end to this absurd and melodramatic parrot love triangle.

“That’s incredible,” someone from the production team exclaims once the guests have left.

“Who would’ve thought something like this could happen? Dabai and Pingke are amazing!”

“Did we catch all of that on camera? We absolutely need to include this in the final edit.”

During this period, the program isn’t live-streaming. Guests are free to do their own activities or return to their rooms, where they can stream from their own setups. Each guest’s room is equipped with live-streaming gear, and while there is a daily minimum time requirement, there is no upper limit. They can stream all night if they want.

In their bedroom, Bai Gaoxing, exhausted from the day’s events, collapses onto the bed and gives up any plans to enjoy the night view.

Meanwhile, Li Pu sits at the table, organizing his things before opening his live-stream room for the night.

【Wow, I’ve been waiting for this!】

【Perfect timing—I can watch it in bed after dinner!】

【Oh my god! Is this real?!】

【Finally! Teacher Li is live! I’m crying!】

The live-stream chat explodes as Li Pu’s fans flood in. The barrage of messages covers the screen, their excitement practically spilling out into the room.

When the initial chaos settles down, someone notices something odd.

【Teacher Li—wait, where’s Dabai?】

On camera, Li Pu is sitting at the table, a neat white wall with decorations and a bed visible in the background. But there is no sign of the big white parrot.

【Dabai! Dabai! Where is Dabai?】 Dabai’s fans can’t hold back their concern.

Li Pu notices the comment, shifts to the side, and adjusts the camera to show the area behind him.

The viewers immediately spot the snow-white parrot sprawled on the bed, motionless.

【What happened to Dabai? Is he asleep?】

【He must be tired. Filming must’ve been exhausting.】

【The way it’s lying there is so funny~】

The next second, the white parrot suddenly stands up, flapping its wings and landing on Li Pu’s shoulder.

【Ahhhhh, it came over!】

【So cute and well-behaved!!】

Li Pu feels the breeze by his ear and the weight settle on his shoulder, followed by a cheerful “Good evening!”

The chat explodes.

【OMG, it greets us!】

【Help, I feel like Dabai flew over just because it saw us and wanted to say that. I’m so touched!】

【So smart!! And it speaks so clearly!!】

Li Pu glances sideways in surprise. He can’t quite figure out how Dabai knows he’s live streaming—maybe it’s just a coincidence?

At this moment, Bai Gaoxing faces the camera with a sense of accomplishment.

After so long, he’s finally live-streaming again!

Even if it’s thanks to Li Pu.

And though he can’t talk freely.

Bai Gaoxing spreads his wings wide and says,  “I missed you guys~”

【It actually says ‘you guys’! Such a charitable parrot!】

【Ahhhhh, can you do a performance again? Like the one on Xinghuo!】

【My mom just asked why I’m watching a parrot while eating. XD】

Dabai’s fully spread wings block most of the screen. Li Pu sighs helplessly as the parrot hops closer to the camera, clearly gearing up for a performance. Shaking his head, Li Pu stands up to give Dabai more space.

【It’s happening! Teacher Li is using his old tricks again.】

【He keeps getting Dabai to help with the streams. This parrot’s back must be sore from all the work! (dog head emoji)】

【Wow, Teacher Li, when will you update Xinghuo? I’m starving for new content!】

Unfortunately, no one responds to these requests.

Meanwhile, Bai Gaoxing tilts his head, watching Li Pu step out onto the balcony with satisfaction. Turning back to the live chat, he radiates confidence.

For the next hour… nonstop effort!

In front of thousands of viewers, Bai Gaoxing can’t be too obvious—this is the show’s live stream, and it will definitely be edited later. Saying too much will give him away!

So, he frantically collects information from the chat and responds with vague, unrelated comments.

Even with such perfunctory replies, he sees countless praises in the chat:

【Dabai is the clearest-speaking parrot I’ve ever seen!】

【It’s so articulate!】

【With this level of fluency… is the kid going to school? (facepalm emoji)】

It almost makes him feel embarrassed—so maybe he should say a little more.

When Li Pu returns, he sees Dabai talking to the camera.

And it isn’t just any conversation—it’s the same cold jokes it often tells at home.

Li Pu falls silent for a moment.

It seems like Dabai isn’t tired at all. If anything, he’s getting more energized the longer he talks.

The man can’t help but find it amusing.

He wants to let Dabai play a little longer, but seeing how late it’s gotten, he decides it’s time to call it a night.

Li Pu approaches the camera, smiling gently at the audience. “It’s already quite late. Everyone should head to bed early.”

With that, he mercilessly ends the stream, cutting off the viewers’ last-minute cries:

【No! Stay on a bit longer!】

It is indeed time for bed.

Bai Gaoxing, understanding the routine, flies to the bed. Before Li Pu can bring the bird stand over, he buries his head in the quilt and pretends to be asleep.

Anyway, he has already decided: he’s sleeping in the big bed tonight.

Li Pu sets the bird stand down, covers the camera with a coat and towel, and returns to the bedside. He gently pokes the parrot nestled under the blanket.

“Dabai?”

Bai Gaoxing, his head still buried, mutters softly, “I’m asleep.”

The unique, adorable voice of a parrot is captured by the recording equipment. Downstairs, the director monitoring the feed jolts upright in excitement, and the screenwriter beside him furiously scribbles notes.

Li Pu gazes at the parrot in silence for a moment before finally giving up. He lies down next to the stubborn bird, resigned.

…

A week of recording flies by. The production team works tirelessly to finalize the first episode, preparing it for broadcast.

The first episode, Rural Life, is warm and laid-back, mainly designed to help the adorable pets adapt to life in front of the camera. The results exceed their expectations.

“These pet guests are so charming and entertaining,” the director remarks, pleased.

“And full of surprises…”

The director and scriptwriter exchange a knowing look, each seeing a shared understanding in the other’s eyes.

No doubt, the viewers will be even more obsessed than they were.

And so, on Saturday during prime time, the sixth season of Cute Pet Diaries officially premieres with its first episode.

Author’s Note:

[After the broadcast]

Dabai: You people really can ship anything, huh? (suspicious glare)

Li Pu: Coughs awkwardly.
