Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

The next morning.

The living room curtains are drawn open, and warm sunlight streams through the French windows, casting light onto the parrot’s white belly.

The white ball on the sofa seems restless in the sun, rolling over and burying its head beneath its broad wings.

Li Pu watches it quietly for a while, killing time in the slow pace of the morning.

When he wakes up the previous night, he finds that Dabai has wandered out of the bedroom at some point—there is no Dabai beside the pillow, and the perch is empty. Looking around, he discovers Dabai has fallen asleep in the corner of the sofa.

This can only be because the weather has been too hot, and he hasn’t turned on the air conditioner. The living room, well-ventilated, is always cooler than the bedroom.

Li Pu gazes at the white ball for a long moment before changing into sneakers and gently pushing open the door.

Daily morning exercises are also recommended by psychologists. Keeping the body active can help reduce the energy consumed by too many thoughts. Although it isn’t strictly necessary anymore, it has become a habit.

“Click.” As the door closes, the bird on the sofa suddenly wakes up and blinks its eyes.

He seems to have had a strange dream.

Bai Gaoxing scratches his head, trying to remember the vague fragments of the dream. He has the odd feeling that he might have been a person in the dream…

But that can’t be, right?

Bai Gaoxing glances at the brightly lit balcony, his mind drifting. The breeze lifts the gauzy curtain, brushing against his heart.

At first, he thought about returning day and night, making a wish before bed each night.

But now, several months have passed.

Life is still so peaceful—so peaceful that nothing has changed. The hope he once held has gradually faded with time, now a mere bubble that can’t even be seen.

It’s nice to be a pet bird, isn’t it?

Someone to feed him, someone to sleep beside him, someone to play with, and he could even fly…

Weighing the benefits of being a bird, Bai Gaoxing stands up from the sofa, shakes his feathers, clears his mind of all the messy thoughts, and hops into his cage to eat breakfast.

Well, the food wasn’t as good as human food.

Soon, Li Pu returns from his morning run with a hot breakfast in hand.

Bai Gaoxing’s eyes light up, and he pounces immediately. However, Li Pu, having anticipated this, raises his hand to dodge, and Bai Gaoxing misses, almost crashing into the wall.

Frustrated, Bai Gaoxing glares at Li Pu, twisting his head to stare at him, as if waiting for his conscience to kick in.

However, all he gets is a light tap on the head and Li Pu’s laughter: “You can’t eat this.”

Bai Gaoxing, fuming, shouts: “Yes, I can!”

Not only can he eat it, but he can also show off a lot!

The morning and afternoon pass slowly. When there are people around, time doesn’t seem so boring.

In the afternoon, Bai Gaoxing yawns as he watches Li Pu walk out of the room after lunch.

Should he go to the library? Or somewhere else? When he is home alone, he can act as he always does…

Wait!

Something isn’t right.

Bai Gaoxing suddenly panics.

Suddenly, he realizes that he has only thought it is good for Li Pu to have someone to keep him company at home, but has completely forgotten that the other person has no work to do and can just lie at home, staring at him all day!

With this thought, Bai Gaoxing stares at the man on the sofa, his feather crest drooping almost all the way down his back.

This is terrible… He never imagined this situation!

Li Pu notices the parrot’s sudden change in mood and straightens up slightly on the sofa, reaching out his hand to gently beckon, “What’s wrong?”

Ah, I don’t want to pay attention to you.

He rolls on the ground, then onto the sofa a few times, before staring at the ceiling.

It isn’t so bad. Life goes on peacefully. Except that Li Pu keeps wondering why Dabai runs out of the bedroom every day and turns on the air conditioner.

After staying up for three consecutive nights, Bai Gaoxing finally decides to give in and sleep with his precious owner.

During this time, Bai Gaoxing is also taken downstairs to get some fresh air—and he finds an unexpected surprise. The old man downstairs is carrying two birdcages. In addition to the starling that has grown into a pair, there is now a nest of young starlings, growing stronger by the day.

The female starling nestles sweetly in Xiaoguai’s arms, while Xiaoguai puffs out his chest, looking like the winner of bird life.

When they first meet, the female starling throws him a wink:

“Hi~ handsome boy!”

Ahhh, I knew it! Two types of birds can’t sleep in the same bed!

Then, the young starling chimes in:

“Mom mom mom mom…”

No, wait, it seems to be:

“Damn it, mom mom mom mom…”

Help!!

Bai Gaoxing is stunned, determined not to disturb the young couple again.

A week later, Li Pu’s agent calls to inform him that the advertisement he has agreed to film with Gino is to be filmed.

…

Gino is a high-end brand well-known both domestically and internationally. Currently, its most popular products are luxury goods like clothing and accessories.

But in fact, Gino started out as a car brand. Gino’s cars are the best in both appearance and quality, widely praised by the public. However, due to the brand’s controlled production, it has become the “white moonlight” in the eyes of many. Each time a new model is released, it creates a wave of excitement.

This advertisement is also meant to promote Gino’s latest off-road vehicle and capture a share of the international market.

“We’ve used the most popular line design for this car… The key advantages are low fuel consumption and environmental protection…” Gino’s staff carefully introduces their latest model to Li Pu.

Although the product information has been sent to Xingyu by email, he still needs to experience the car in person when he arrives at the shooting site.

“Would you like to try it?” The staff kindly opens the door, revealing an interior as simple and beautiful as the exterior.

Li Pu’s gaze drifts to the other side.

Not far away, the marketing director is crouched in front of the birdcage, clapping excitedly and exclaiming in delight.

Perhaps due to his love for animals, or because he wants to get to know the actors he’ll be working with, the director has been focused on the birdcage for quite some time.

Lei Li has also arrived on set today. She stands off to the side, her face showing an expression of disbelief.

“Dabai can actually talk!” The director points to his mouth. “It imitates me talking!”

Li Pu walks over and chuckles. “Dabai can indeed imitate people. For example, he often imitates me at home.”

Lei Li glances from the director to Li Pu, her expression shifting to something more perplexed. “Dabai is learning… German.”

The marketing director, who is born in Germany, has subconsciously spoken a sentence in his native dialect while playing with the bird.

To his surprise, Dabai has repeated it.

After hearing Lei Li’s explanation, Li Pu thinks for a moment before turning his gaze to the parrot, who is shaking hands with the director.

“Maybe…” Li Pu pauses, “Dabai just wants someone to play with.”

“I believe that,” Lei Li raises an eyebrow. “Dabai has been busy since he got here this morning.”

Since arriving at the shooting location in the morning, Gino’s staff is extremely enthusiastic, circling around the parrot whenever they can. It’s clear they are all entranced by Dabai’s cuteness.

Dabai seems just as excited, happily responding to anyone who speaks to him.

If the director hasn’t shown up, the shoot likely would have been delayed.

“Very standard, very standard!” Director Gino nods approvingly, praising the colleagues gathered behind him.

Amid the busy chatter, Bai Gaoxing falls silent the moment Li Pu glances over.

One look.

Another look.

Once Li Pu is quickly called away by someone else, Bai Gaoxing lets out a sigh of relief.

Why had he talked to a foreigner?

It had been a spur-of-the-moment decision.

His short life has been quite eventful. In addition to his major in college, he has picked up a few words in other languages.

Luckily, if Li Pu hadn’t intervened in time, he might have ended up chatting with that person.

——Will it be reliable to explain that I was originally a parrot picked up from abroad?

Bai Gaoxing shrinks his head in, feeling uncertain.

The shoot is about to start, and the staff around him begin to prepare.

The advertisement’s shooting location is set outdoors, a vast area surrounded by expansive green land with towering mountains in the background. Nearby, there is a large, strangely-shaped studio, something like a tunnel.

Bai Gaoxing looks around and lets out a big yawn. He has gotten out of bed before dawn—he even thought at the time that he might have been sleepwalking.

Apparently, the manufacturer has chosen this time because they believe the early morning light is especially beautiful.

Now, the sun has barely risen.

“Come on, look here, get closer to Dabai…”

Li Pu is wearing a pure white suit, also from Gino’s haute couture collection, with a black shirt underneath. He doesn’t wear a tie, but has left the shirt slightly open at the collar.

The most eye-catching detail is the red rose pinned to his chest pocket.

In keeping with the theme, Bai Gaoxing also wears a matching bow tie. The main point is unity!

The promotional video is being shot in a relatively simple studio. The setup is straightforward—cars, people, and birds, with any arrangement of positions producing a shot. Bai Gaoxing cooperates perfectly, and the results are satisfactory with almost no adjustments needed.

The staff are visibly excited. Small animals are usually hard to work with, and it often takes multiple attempts to get the perfect shot.

They have been prepared for a long, frustrating day of shooting, but everything goes so smoothly that it’s almost unbelievable!

Bai Gaoxing: !!!

Bai Gaoxing shudders for no apparent reason.

But then, Gino’s idea for the advertisement catches Li Pu off guard.

“The design concept of this car is freedom and love. We want to reflect that feeling…”

They introduce their idea—filming a scene where Dabai will fly outside the car while Li Pu is driving.

This will capture the image of the parrot spreading its wings and soaring alongside the vehicle, while also highlighting the car’s powerful performance.

Gino’s team adds, “The original script planned to use a dog, but that felt a bit too ordinary. Many brands have used that idea.”

Bai Gaoxing perks up at this. Could it be that he can fly freely in this beautiful nature?

But before his dream can take flight, Li Pu shatters it.

“No,” the man says, frowning slightly. “This is in the wild. It’s not safe.”

Hiss, Bai Gaoxing freezes. If he says he would never run off, would they believe him?

Bai Gaoxing takes a sharp breath. Unexpectedly, Gino’s team seems to have anticipated this response and smiles as one of them says, “So, we’ve prepared a special studio for this.”

It’s the “tunnel” Bai Gaoxing has noticed earlier.

“We plan to use a green screen for this part. The space inside is big enough for a sports car, so Dabai flying in here won’t be a problem. He definitely won’t get lost.”

With that, they decide to give it a try.

The studio space is indeed very large. Facing the camera, Bai Gaoxing flaps his wings, feeling more nervous than he has during any sports competition.

What posture should he use? How many times should he flap his wings to avoid casting a shadow? Where should he stop?

“Dabai, fly.”

Before he can overthink it, Li Pu’s voice reaches his ears, and Bai Gaoxing takes off, flapping his wings and rushing to the front of the car from the back.

The advertising director watches closely through the camera. Every feather of the snow-white parrot is perfectly shaped, and when it flies, its movements are graceful. Its fluff shifts slightly, making it as cute as a dandelion in spring.

The director stands up from behind the camera and nods in approval. “Very good, let’s keep one more shot.”

Great, he passes!

It’s worth the effort to fly just now! Bai Gaoxing sighs in relief.

The next scene involves a real-life shot of the car speeding through the mountains, demonstrating its horsepower and stability.

Since the commercial has a plot, Bai Gaoxing sits in the car to experience Li Pu’s driving skills firsthand.

Through the window, the beautiful natural scenery speeds by. Bai Gaoxing can’t help but reflect:

I usually know that Li Pu drives steadily on the road, but I never realized how well he drives in the mountains—

“Swoosh–!”

Wuhu~

Bai Gaoxing leans back in the seat, glancing at the man driving ahead, regretting that he can’t sit in the passenger seat.

They spend three whole days filming for this commercial.

The first day’s dusk isn’t quite right, and the second day is too cloudy. It isn’t until the third day that they capture the perfect shot Gino had envisioned.

By the afternoon of the third day, Bai Gaoxing is so sleepy he can barely keep his eyes open.

It’s completely true—getting up early and being busy all day is exhausting.

The filming of the advertisement is finally over. As Gino and Lei Li discuss production and broadcast schedules, Bai Gaoxing loses interest and drifts off to sleep.

After that, time passes slowly once again.

After filming the advertisement, Bai Gaoxing has a few days of leisure.

Finally, on a sunny afternoon, he takes advantage of Li Pu being out and, disdaining the pile of abandoned drafts in the box, points the video camera at himself.
