Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

The middle-aged man who suddenly appears is dressed in a suit, with a gentle and polite smile that gives him the air of an elite.

However, the look he gives the parrot is clearly not as calm.

Li Pu doesn’t recognize the man, but Peter Wang feels that he looks familiar. As Trend Media frequently collaborates with major domestic and international business giants, and pays close attention to news across various industries, this person seems like someone he’s seen before…

“Is there something I can help you with?” Just as Peter Wang racks his brain trying to think, Lei Pu speaks up directly.

“It’s like this,” the man answers seriously, “I noticed something during your shoot just now. It feels very much in line with the kind of vibe we’re aiming for, and I want to learn more about it.” He then asks, “Is this parrot a model you hired?”

“Sort of… but not really,” the bearded man replies. “Peter says it’s a friend’s parrot, just borrowing it.”

The man’s eyes reveal a hint of regret, then he eagerly asks, “Can you give me its owner’s contact information? Our company, Gino, would love to hire this parrot as an actor for our advertisement.”

Gino?

Everyone present immediately understands.

Peter Wang finally recalls who the man is and whispers to Li Pu, “Gino is entering the domestic market soon, and this person is the marketing director for Gino’s European branch.

So he’s a big shot!

Upon hearing this, Bai Gaoxing looks up at the man, receiving a mysterious smile in return.

It seems like he has been paying attention to him… Hiss, this feeling of being stared at.

Bai Gaoxing quickly flaps his wings and climbs onto Li Pu’s shoulder under the man’s surprised gaze.

“The owner of Dabai is him,” Peter Wang takes the opportunity to point at Li Pu.

The next moment, the man eagerly steps forward to shake Li Pu’s hand, even speaking in a mix of languages: “I really hope you can give us a chance… we truly need it… Please!”

The man is about the same height as Li Pu, and Bai Gaoxing, perched on his shoulder, is nearly face-to-face with him.

Looking at the reflection of himself in the man’s eyes, Bai Gaoxing can’t understand what makes him so noticeable… There are so many animals on this floor, could it be that this man prefers ones that can fly?

— Little does he know, he has caught the man’s attention by speaking loudly, playing around with people, and wearing a necklace.

Facing the man’s request, Li Pu pauses for a moment before saying, “I need to contact the company.”

Although Dabai is his personal pet, commercial ventures like advertising still require someone responsible for such tasks.

“No problem!” The man’s eyes light up as he looks at the snow-white parrot on Li Pu’s shoulder.

God knows how hard it is for him to refrain from interrupting during the shoot. They have been worried about not having the right animal—dogs are smart and trainable but not unique enough, cats are cute but hard to train, and beautiful snakes have been rejected during the early stages of planning… In the end, they realize there simply hasn’t been a suitable candidate.

If he hadn’t suddenly decided to come and see the filming site today, he would have missed this opportunity!

The man watches as Li Pu walks farther away, almost as if he wants to take his parrot back immediately.

Meanwhile, Li Pu takes out his phone and calls his agent.

“Gino?” Lei Li sounds a bit surprised, “Did Xiao Mei tell you?”

Now it’s Lei Pu’s turn to be surprised. “Tell me what?”

“About Gino wanting to collaborate with you.” Lei Li flips through some files. “We just discussed it yesterday, and since I thought you’d be busy today, I hadn’t mentioned it yet.”

Bai Gaoxing leans in close to Li Pu’s ear, listening to the conversation on the phone. He nearly bursts out laughing.

What a coincidence—both the owner and the pet are being sought after.

Li Pu is silent for a moment before mentioning the offer regarding Dabai.

“Hmm?” Lei Li seems to still be processing the situation. “Didn’t you say Dabai was going to shoot a magazine? What’s Gino got to do with that?”

“Gino’s people are here too,” Li Pu pauses, sounding a little helpless, “They’ve taken a liking to Dabai.”

There is a brief silence on the phone.

“This… I’ll talk to them,” Lei Li says, sounding like he has a slight headache. “Since you called me, I take it you’re agreeing?”

“Hmm,” Li Pu replies. “I was just looking for an excuse to turn them down.”

Lei Li chuckles, “I didn’t expect you to take the initiative for Dabai. Didn’t you even turn down ‘Cute Pet Diary’ before?”

Li Pu’s expression softens slightly. “Dabai really likes it.”

He should’ve realized long ago that Dabai actually enjoys interacting with people.

Whether it’s actively asking to go out and play, or responding with a “Go!” to everything—even during filming, he reacts to others teasing him—all of these are signs that Dabai craves company.

Thinking about it now, he shouldn’t have left Dabai alone at home in the first place.

Li Pu raises his hand and gently strokes the parrot’s head on his shoulder. Feeling the smooth feathers calms him down.

At first, he was somewhat hesitant about agreeing to the offer, but after hearing it would be for an advertisement, his doubts completely disappeared.

Li Pu relaxes his expression, pinching the soft down feathers.

Bai Gaoxing closes his eyes and lets Li Pu rub his head.

Really like it… Don’t say it like that—so—so—

He can’t find a word to describe the tone of Lei Pu’s voice.

Bai Gaoxing’s mind keeps turning over the five words Li Pu has said. Embarrassed, he tries to hide his face in the man’s collar.

Li Pu soon returns to the man.

“Okay,” he says, “but we still need to discuss the collaboration through the company.”

“Hey? This parrot has a company?” the man asks in surprise. “Where?”

“Star Entertainment.”

“Oh~” The man’s eyes light up at the familiar name. “I know! We just discussed business cooperation with them yesterday! With an artist named Li.”

Li Pu smiles.

The man pauses, then looks at him with some surprise in his eyes. “Suddenly, I realize you look a bit like him…”

They have seen Li Pu’s photos and agreed that no one else would be more suitable. But now, it seems there is someone even more fitting…?

Li Pu takes off his mask, his expression softening. “That’s me.”

…

As the man walks away, muttering, “This is too coincidental,” Bai Gaoxing finally feels less embarrassed. He rubs Li Pu’s shoulders, shedding a few feathers in the process.

Then, they throw themselves back into the intense and busy shoot.

Considering the attention span and endurance of animal models, the shoot is done in segments with frequent breaks. The disadvantage of this approach is that it makes the process much longer than usual.

Sure enough, by the time everyone finally snaps out of the day’s filming, the sky outside has turned into a starry night.

“You’ve worked hard today,” Peter Wang says, wiping sweat from his brow. “I didn’t expect we’d finish shooting in just one day.”

“Because Dabai cooperated very well,” the bearded man says, giving a thumbs up.

Looking around, the other teams are wrapping up too, but upon asking, their progress is still insufficient, meaning there will be work left for tomorrow.

“How about a big meal?” Peter Wang suggests.

“Not this time,” Li Pu declines the invitation. “I plan to go home, pack, and return to the crew tomorrow afternoon.”

“That tight?” Peter Wang raises an eyebrow but doesn’t press the issue. “Alright. When you come back next time, you’ll probably see Dabai‘s magazine.”

Listening to the conversation, Bai Gaoxing starts to feel sleepy and lets out a big yawn.

Li Pu notices and reaches up to stroke the top of the parrot’s head, then says to Peter Wang, “Then we’ll go first.”

“Go ahead~” Peter Wang waves his hand. “I’ll show you the sample when it’s ready.”

Bai Gaoxing is put back into the bird bag and carried all the way to the car. As the car drives, his eyelids grow heavier, and he soon falls asleep.

…

When he wakes up, he finds himself in a spacious, bright living room.

Ha… I’m back…?

Bai Gaoxing mutters groggily and rubs his eyes in the bag.

Where’s Li Pu?

He takes a step back, aims carefully, and with a leap, successfully wriggles out of the bag.

“Thud.” The bird carrier tips over.

Bai Gaoxing doesn’t bother to check, flapping his wings and scampering around the living room.

Where is he?

He lost track of him after they went out?

Bai Gaoxing blinks his big eyes and even looks under the sofa.

Just then, he hears rustling from Li Pu’s bedroom. His eyes light up, and he darts over, but skids to a halt at the door.

Li Pu is crouching in front of the bedroom trash can, a complicated expression on his face, as he pulls out one, two, three… four bags of melon seeds.

Oh no!

Bai Gaoxing suddenly remembers that when he was left alone at home, he was so bored that he rummaged through the drawers for snacks, cracking open five bags of melon seeds over five days!

The last bag had been shoved into the crack of the bed because the trash can couldn’t hold any more…

Bai Gaoxing swallowed nervously, his eyes trembling slightly.

How come you’re the one going through the trash?

Although, with such a large pile of bags, it’s a little obvious…

Bai Gaoxing quietly backs away, trying to disappear before Li Pu notices him.

“Dabai.” Suddenly, Li Pu’s voice comes from behind.

Bai Gaoxing freezes, his heart skipping a beat.

“What is this?” Li Pu shakes the four bags, producing a rustling sound.

“Ah~” Bai Gaoxing turns his head slowly, shrinking his neck, and opens his eyes innocently. “Look! There’s a flying saucer!”

Li Pu stares at him expressionlessly.

Bai Gaoxing lets out a soft whimper.

Li Pu sighs helplessly.

Although he had gone home first after returning to Jiangcheng, he was in a rush to leave for a magazine shoot, so he had only taken a quick glance around the room, leaving with ease when he saw nothing amiss.

He certainly hadn’t expected this.

Lei Pu tries tugging at the blanket. Aside from a layer of dust, there are a few sunflower seed shells scattered on top.

But there are no melon seed shells.

Ah, yes. Bai Gaoxing straightens his chest proudly. He had thrown all the shells in the trash.

Li Pu has obviously noticed the pile of trash and seems like he wants to say something but is momentarily speechless.

“Come here,” Lei Pu says calmly after a while, waving him over.

Bai Gaoxing hesitates, takes two steps, then quickened his pace and runs over, receiving a gentle pat on his head.

“Sorry, I won’t leave you home alone again.”

Bai Gaoxing blinks in surprise, his eyes wide.

The man looks at him calmly, his gaze fully reflecting his figure. His cold eyebrows and eyes seem gentle at that moment.

So… so touching.

Yay!

Bai Gaoxing feels a sense of relief, finally no longer needing to worry about how to stay in the crew.

That evening, he once again enjoys Li Pu’s cooking skills. The crew’s boxed lunch is actually quite decent, but it’s completely off-limits to him after he swiped the trainer’s dish a few times early on. What a pity.

Later, Bai Gaoxing skillfully climbs into Li Pu’s bed.

The quilt has been replaced with a fresh, warm, and soft one. It isn’t too hot that evening, so it’s fine to cuddle up.

“Go to sleep.” Li Pu glances at him for a while but doesn’t push him out. Instead, he raises his hand and turns off the light.

Bai Gaoxing nestles against Li Pu’s shoulder, the familiar scent comforting him, and closes his eyes, feeling at peace.

Li Pu also lies down, but a nagging feeling lingers, something feels off.

Ten minutes later, the lights flick back on. The soft glow makes Bai Gaoxing open his eyes in confusion.

Under the light, Li Pu’s dark eyes seem unusually bright, making Bai Gaoxing feel a little uneasy.

Then, he watches as Li Pu takes out the last bag of melon seeds from under his pillow and asks calmly:

“Dabai, what is this?”
