Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Bai Gaoxing realizes he has to do something.

After hearing his agent say “he agreed,” his previously idle and laid-back life at the company begins to take some unexpected turns.

First, he has to watch cute pet videos with the other.

It’s said that this task was originally supposed to be handled by Mei Youshu, but because the young man is especially terrified of sharp beaks, the agent worries he might pass out while watching, so she decides to take over herself.

The woman with long curly hair gently rubs his head, and seeing that he doesn’t object, says, “Want to watch it with me? If you get bored, you can go to sleep~”

Sleeping is even more boring.

Bai Gaoxing calculates that since joining the company, the amount of sleep he gets has exceeded what he usually gets at home. Now he can finally watch the computer screen openly, so he perks up and raises his feather crown. “Okay!”

The large 0720 live-streaming studio has already been transformed into a suitable space for streaming. The originally empty place is now filled with soft, cute furniture, which complements the fluffy white parrot perched nearby.

At that moment, Bai Gaoxing stands beside Lei Li, watching her operate the computer.

“Then… this one?” Lei Li finds a popular pet streamer.

The streamer’s pet is also a parrot, a pink-feathered Budgerigar—a pink cockatoo. This fluffy, pink little creature is her profile picture, and just looking at it makes Bai Gaoxing want to bite it.

He clicks his tongue and thinks it looks like strawberry cotton candy.

Lei Li studies the streamer’s avatar for a full minute before turning her gaze to the parrot beside her. After thinking for a moment, she says, “The pink one is really cute, how about we dye you pink?”

Bai Gaoxing: NO!

“Okay, I was just kidding.” Noticing the parrot’s reluctance, Lei Li laughs and gently strokes its feathers.

Bai Gaoxing turns his gaze over.

The first video shows the pink Budgerigar turning on the faucet, its pale beak grasping the handle and twisting it around, starting to drink.

That’s it?

Bai Gaoxing looks at it suspiciously, noticing that this parrot can only turn the faucet on, not off. Unlike him, he can even wipe the sink for Li Pu.

“That won’t work,” Lei Li says. “You can’t demonstrate drinking water.”

Demonstrate?

When?

Bai Gaoxing blinks, then asks directly, “Demonstrate?”

Lei Li is surprised for a moment, then laughs again: “You learn so quickly?”

Bai Gaoxing bounces forward twice. “What kind of demonstration?”

“Hmm… do you really understand?” Lei Li scratches his furry chin. “Alright, it’s for a variety show. I signed you and Li Pu up for it.”

Bai Gaoxing’s eyes widen.

She pauses for a moment before smiling and saying, “After I sign you up, I think it was a bit too hasty. Li Pu says you weren’t very happy when you first came home… so I take the opportunity to visit ‘Cute Pet Diary’ a few days ago to check it out. Luckily, their filming is really relaxed, and there are no strange demands.”

Cute Pet Diary, Bai Gaoxing ponders the name for a moment—it sounds like a variety show about small animals.

But hooray! He gets to work with Li Pu, and it’s a life of acting he has never experienced before!

Bai Gaoxing bounces excitedly, and moreover, could he ride the coattails of the best actor and become an overnight sensation?

—The parrot, who lacks any self-awareness of already being famous, thinks this to himself.

Then, he eagerly watches the next video.

After watching a series of the streamer’s videos, Bai Gaoxing has already done everything he can—except for calling out “mama” and “yi yi yi.”

Lei Li is greatly pleased by this. She initially thought that if Bai Gaoxing was a silly, clueless parrot, the production team would focus on showcasing his adorable, goofy side. If he truly couldn’t adapt, she would consider switching to another guest pet or withdrawing, depending on Li Pu’s wishes.

But now it seems… Bai Gaoxing is totally capable and could even potentially deliver an unexpectedly great performance.

She hadn’t realized that when Li Pu said Bai Gaoxing was smart, he hadn’t exaggerated at all.

The manager sighs on the spot: This isn’t just a simple kind of intelligence; this kid could already go to school!

So that afternoon, Bai Gaoxing meets his new “teacher.”

A bird trainer.

As the name suggests, it’s a profession that specializes in guiding and training birds, working at a bird park attraction in Jiangcheng for sightseeing.

The bird trainer is a young man with thick eyebrows and big eyes, professional, with a little bit of talent. According to his self-introduction: Other bird trainers take five months to complete the training, but he can do it in three months, and he can also develop a deep bond with the training subjects.

“Hello, Sister Li,” the bird trainer says politely, introducing himself in a professional manner. “Our main job is to train parrots to perform. The level of performance depends on the length of training time and the talent of the parrot itself. In addition to professional training, we can also teach family pets simple commands, such as getting started, fixed-point urination and defecation, etc.”

Bai Gaoxing tilts his head. He knows all this, so why does he need to learn?

As expected, Lei Li’s words dispel his doubts. “All of these things are unnecessary. Just look at Dabai‘s various abilities. Didn’t you say you could evaluate it?” She explains further: “It’s mainly because there will be a lot of people at the shooting site, and I’m afraid it will be difficult for him to adapt.”

She had already told the trainer about the situation and the specific needs.

The bird trainer nods. “Indeed, the parrots in our park are trained from a young age and are already familiar with crowded environments. Ordinary parrots can get a little scared when they first encounter too many people.” He turns to the cage where Bai Gaoxing is. “Then I’ll give it a try?”

Lei Li nods. “Okay, but don’t scare him.”

“Don’t worry,” the bird trainer responds, then approaches Bai Gaoxing’s cage. He pauses when he sees something. “The door’s not closed?”

Lei Li blinks. “We raise it freely here.”

“That’s quite rare. Large parrots like this usually destroy things around the house,” the bird trainer says as he puts his hand in front of Bai Gaoxing, waving it gently. “No signs of aggression—seems like he has a good temperament.”

Lei Li agrees. “Dabai is very friendly.”

Then, Bai Gaoxing watches the young man open the cage door and motion for him to come out.

You think I’ll just come out because you say so? Where’s my dignity in that?

Bai Gaoxing, who has just eaten, lets out a satisfied belch and slowly steps out. After all, no matter how fancy the cage, it can’t compare to the spaciousness outside.

Facing Lei Li but keeping Bai Gaoxing in view, the bird trainer begins explaining, “The most basic test is to see if the parrot is willing to perch on a person’s hand, something even casual pet owners can try. But with our training, we go a step further, conditioning parrots to be comfortable enough to perch on strangers’ hands.”

Lei Li looks puzzled. “Wouldn’t it fly away with someone else?”

The bird trainer chuckles, “Ah, that’s why during training, we reinforce commands or rewards to create a conditioned response.” With that, he extends his hand toward Bai Gaoxing. “For example, in this case, it shouldn’t want to perch on a stranger’s hand—”

Expressionless, Bai Gaoxing steps right onto the man’s hand.

“Uh!?” The trainer is momentarily stunned.

Lei Li brushes her fingers along her cheek and says, “Continue.”

The trainer gives an awkward smile, trying to save face. “It seems Dabai’s personality is even better than I expected. Next are some entertainment skills, like skateboarding, riding a small cart, basketball—”

Lei Li interrupts. “He can already do those.”

“What?” The trainer’s expression grows even more complicated. But, remaining professional, he composes himself and continues, “Then there are command-based skills, like shaking hands, spinning, somersaulting, playing dead—surely it hasn’t learned that one yet?”

Bai Gaoxing can tell the man is on the verge of PTSD.

“I don’t think so?”

Lei Li’s answer seems to bring him some relief, and he continues, “For learning new commands, it’s best to use food as motivation. Controlled food training—”

What?? Bai Gaoxing fluffs his feathered crown and backs up a few inches.

“There’s no need for that,” Lei Li quickly dismisses the idea. Besides, it would be pitiful to starve such a fluffy creature. “Just give Dabai an assessment.”

The bird trainer thinks for a moment. “Then, I’ll start by seeing how much Dabai can already do, using our standard observation process. If needed, I can later create a targeted training plan.” He’s determined to sell a package.

Lei Li glances at him, stepping back a couple of paces. “All right.”

Bai Gaoxing watches as the trainer sizes him up briefly before giving the commands: shake hands, spin, fly to hand.

He sighs, feeling like a college student doing grade-school work, taking advantage of his human intelligence to bully others.

Soon, a large, snowy-white parrot smoothly performs every command on the table.

“Amazing, so smart!” The trainer is shocked. “Has it been trained before?”

“I don’t know about that.” Lei Li shakes her head, slipping her recording phone back into her pocket.

“It’s no problem for Dabai to interact with people… As for learning ability—I’ll try something harder.” The bird trainer feels like they’ve already hit the ceiling, uncertain of the parrot’s true limits.

Not like I can ask a parrot to do ten sit-ups, he thinks with a hint of disbelief.

Reaching into his pocket, his fingers brush against a set of cards he has forgotten about.

Bai Gaoxing watches curiously as the trainer pulls out a small stack of cards. Unlike ordinary playing cards, these cards have no suits, just large numbers printed on them.

The bird trainer introduces them, “These are cards we use to train basic arithmetic. The idea is for the parrot to perform addition and subtraction within ten. You give it a math problem, and it brings back the card with the correct answer.”

“This… is a bit of a stretch.” Lei Li, for the first time, seems doubtful. She unfolds her arms, looking slightly skeptical.

“Yes,” the bird trainer nods, taking her reaction as a compliment to his expertise. “In fact, training parrots for arithmetic at our park takes both time and skill. I’ll be lucky if I can just get Dabai familiar with the deck.” He holds up a card with a bold “1” on it, showing it to Bai Gaoxing, who observes, curious about what new tactic he’ll use.

The bird trainer continues, “If Dabai can grasp this quickly, well, there’s really nothing more for him to learn. For example, if I were to ask Dabai, ‘One plus one equals…?’ Then—”

Bai Gaoxing answers instantly, “It equals two!”

The room falls into stunned silence.

The bird trainer is frozen, and after a long moment, he stammers, “I… I’ve never seen a parrot that can actually speak the answer.”

Lei Li doesn’t see the big deal. “Oh, yeah, Dabai speaks regularly—why?”

But this is different! The bird trainer nearly bursts out in shock. Learning to grab the right card is a trained skill, but actually saying the answer? Do they train him in mental arithmetic every day or something?

Trying to compose himself, he mutters, “Alright, I’ll… continue.”

Lei Li reassures him, “As long as Dabai’s feeling up to it.”

An hour later…

“Honestly, I have no words,” the bird trainer says, utterly defeated as he prepares to leave. “Dabai should be in school! My own daughter’s IQ doesn’t compare—Dabai can calculate addition and subtraction within ten faster than she can.”

“Ah, well… that makes sense,” Lei Li replies, somewhat immune to surprises after hearing from Mei Youshu about Dabai answering the phone on its own.

“Well done.” After the man leaves, Lei Li gives him a huge compliment. “I’ll prepare some treats for you to take to the show. What would you like? Dried fruit or corn on the cob?”

Bai Gaoxing, a bit dazed, wonders if he might’ve overdone it…

He should be reserved!

…

Outside, neon lights and busy traffic fill the night.

Inside live studio 0720, the room is brightly lit, with soft, relaxing music playing in the background.

Another day passes since the bird trainer’s visit, and Bai Gaoxing is finally ready for the night of the live broadcast.

Tonight, Lei Li will be live-streaming with him.

Bai Gaoxing paces the table, thinking deeply. This is his “comeback,” right? He has to remember not to speak randomly and definitely not to badmouth Li Pu. He is supposed to act cute, show affection, and help boost Li Pu’s popularity!

These are Lei Li’s repeated instructions, which he’s already committed to memory.

As he watches Lei Li bring in a bubble tea delivery, Bai Gaoxing wonders what she has planned for the stream. Probably, she’ll want to show everyone that he is really Li Pu’s pet and let him make an appearance.

It will probably be… serious, right?

Over the past two days, he’s seen how serious Lei Li can be when handling work matters, and he imagines the broadcast will feel like an official report.

At exactly eight o’clock, Lei Li sits down in front of the camera with a calm demeanor. “Alright, let’s get started.”

Bai Gaoxing quickly steps into view.

Unlike the quiet studio, the internet has been buzzing with anticipation for this broadcast, with the topic trending higher every hour.

Lei Li announced the live stream a day prior, and with her considerable fanbase—accustomed to her occasional streams from different cities while on business trips—the fans aren’t surprised she’s streaming. But this time is different. She mentioned that she would be bringing Dabai along, and Dabai is known as the pet of Movie Emperor Li Pu…

Many think it might be some sort of announcement.

At this moment, a fierce debate erupts online, and Li Pu’s fans and detractors speculate endlessly.

“Could this be an apology? Are they going to admit something? Like, maybe Dabai isn’t actually raised by Li Pu…”

“I heard it’s all company PR. Some online sources say that.”

“Where are you reading this stuff? Those are just rumors!”

But, honestly, what everyone is most eager to see is Dabai himself.

After all, cuteness always wins!

The stream room opens.

Bai Gaoxing can’t resist and edges closer to the computer, watching a flood of viewers surge in, even causing a momentary lag. When it clears up, the viewer count jumps by a whole digit.

【Ahhh, Dabai!】

【So close up! Did you put him directly on the table? What a good boy!】

【Dabai, come here! Let me give you a kiss! It’s been ages!】

The chat explodes with excitement at the sight of the big white parrot on screen, and the stream’s gift-giving feature is already filling up.

On alert, Bai Gaoxing waits for Lei Li to start talking.

To his surprise, she doesn’t start speaking at all. Instead, she points the camera right at him.

“Good evening! The person you’re hoping to see is busy at work, but it’s not so bad to see his adorable little one instead~”

This is completely not the live-streaming style Bai Gaoxing expects!

Bai Gaoxing looks at her in horror. From the chat, he pieces together that “the agent occasionally goes live” and usually just chats casually with the audience, so it makes sense she isn’t in any rush…

As he processes this, the chat surges again, but now the comments take on a more questioning tone and even start to veer off-topic.

【Hey, why isn’t Dabai talking?】

【I remember it used to be all singing and dancing! Maybe without his owner, he’s got no motivation?】

【What do you expect? I bet Li Pu didn’t even raise him in the first place~ If I’m wrong, go ahead and drag me.】

What do I do?!

Bai Gaoxing debates whether to step in and take the initiative. But…

He glances back at Lei Li. He has no problem performing solo, but with her here, he needs to think carefully.

Just as he is about to speak up, Lei Li turns the camera directly toward him.

“It’s probably because Li Pu isn’t around, and Dabai misses him a lot,” she says.

Bai Gaoxing blinks, impressed. That’s a smart answer.

With that single line, the questioning in the chat quiets down.

“But Dabai should remember all of you. Let’s see if he’s willing to say hello.” She speaks gently, and Bai Gaoxing feels a subtle nudge at the back of his neck.

It’s the cue they rehearsed.

So, Bai Gaoxing lifts his claw and says clearly, “Good evening!”

The chat freezes for a second, then bursts with responses.

【Ahhh, so cute!】

【I called my chickens over to watch this—take notes, everyone!】

【Oh my gosh, can you show me how you train him?】

“Train him?” Lei Li laughs. “Dabai’s just too clever on his own. We didn’t train him at all, but I wouldn’t know what tricks Teacher Li might have up his sleeve.”

Eek—the comments fill with doubt.

“You don’t believe me? There’s nothing I can do about that,” Lei Li shrugs with a smile. “Getting Dabai to cooperate took me calling Li Pu for ages.” She holds up her phone, and a few sharp-eyed viewers notice yesterday’s call history with Li Pu on the screen.

Lei Li continues chatting with the audience while Bai Gaoxing chimes in occasionally, repeating some of his charming antics from the day before, sending the audience into fits of laughter.

He also keeps an eye on the comments, noticing any time someone asks, “When will Teacher Li go live with Dabai again?” Each time, his heart skips a beat.

After about half an hour, Bai Gaoxing finally relaxes and leans slowly against the speaker beside him. Fortunately, Lei Li mostly avoids these questions, or brushes them off with a vague response.

As the live broadcast continues, Lei Li glances at the clock and announces, “It’s been quite a while. Looks like our live stream is coming to an end… Hmm? Wait.”

She pauses, turns her phone screen slightly toward the camera, and smiles mysteriously, saying in a suggestive tone, “A call from Dabai’s Master.”

Master!?

Hearing those words, Bai Gaoxing, who has been daydreaming, snaps to attention, raises his voice, and calls out in an overly affectionate tone, “Master~~~!”

He remembers their code: that phrase is meant to show how close he and Li Pu are.

After his display, he sees Lei Li watching him with a wide grin. Holding back a laugh, she says, “Did you hear that? Your Dabai misses you terribly.”

Bai Gaoxing freezes, his confusion shifting to surprise as he realizes Lei Li’s phone is on an active call.

She didn’t mention this beforehand!

He stares at the phone, his full attention focused on it. After a moment, he hears a low voice on the other end: “…Hmm.”

Author’s Note:

Lei Li: My teeth hurt from the sweetness.

Dabai: Completely embarrassed.

Li Pu: …What have you been teaching Dabai? (Clutches phone tightly)
