Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

At this moment, Bai Gaoxing is staring at the marriage certificate photos posted by Li Pu on Weibo, as well as the one he posted himself, and falls into deep thought.

Imagine this: you’re peacefully sleeping, only to be abruptly awakened by your partner, who says he want to go to the civil affairs bureau early to line up for the marriage certificate. How would you feel?

Time rewinds to three hours earlier.

Still in the midst of a sweet dream, Bai Gaoxing suddenly feels some movement beside him. The soft bed turns into a hard, familiar surface.

A gust of cool wind slips into his collar, forcing him to open his heavy eyelids. The first thing he sees is Li Pu’s handsome profile, half-shadowed in the dim light.

“What!”

What kind of strange dream is this!?

Bai Gaoxing jolts awake, wondering if he’s been thinking too much about their upcoming certificate and ended up dreaming about Li Pu.

“Are you awake?” The man looks at him, leans closer, and gently strokes his face with a warm, broad hand. “I was planning to wait a little longer to wake you.”

What… What’s going on?

Bai Gaoxing blinks in confusion, grabs Li Pu’s hand, and feels the firm warmth of his grip in return.

This isn’t a dream!?

“Li Pu… what are you doing?” Bai Gaoxing swallows, realizing his sleepwear has somehow been changed. “Are you sleepwalking?”

Li Pu smiles, his eyes reflecting the soft light. “We’re going to the civil affairs bureau. Today is a good day. There will probably be a lot of people, so we should go early to queue up.”

Bai Gaoxing isn’t fully awake yet and unconsciously glances at the alarm clock on the nightstand.

The glowing white numbers read: 05:17.

His eyes widen in shock.

“Five o’clock???” Bai Gaoxing looks at Li Pu, who is buttoning his shirt for him. “Are you crazy?”

But Li Pu leans down and kisses him lightly, tying a fluffy scarf around his neck. “I heard that if we’re late, we’ll have to wait a long time. There will be traffic on a workday, and… I can’t wait anymore.” He pauses, a smile in his dark eyes. “Happy birthday.”

Happy 20th birthday.

So you planned to marry me right on the dot?

Bai Gaoxing’s expression is indescribable. He hasn’t expected Li Pu to be so eager—if not for what happened yesterday, he would think they’d find a more convenient time to get the certificate.

“Is getting a certificate really this troublesome…” Bai Gaoxing, having no experience with this, gets up, tidies his clothes, grabs his ID and household register, and follows Li Pu to the civil affairs bureau.

Sure enough, there are people there.

The wind blows coldly, and couples stand in line in front of the bureau, making them less noticeable. Bai Gaoxing wears a hat, carefully tucking in his hair, looking like any other ordinary couple.

Even so, their impressive figures still attract attention.

Thankfully, the light is dim, and everyone is tired, so they aren’t recognized.

However, it seems Li Pu’s announcement yesterday has spread widely, as Bai Gaoxing and Li Pu overhear several young couples discussing it while waiting in line.

Bai Gaoxing stands there, quiet as a quail.

Seeing this, Li Pu reaches out and pulls him closer, holding him intimately.

Once the Civil Affairs Bureau opens, they follow the steps one by one. When the clerk asks, “Is this voluntary?” Bai Gaoxing pauses for a second.

The clerk’s voice is a little shaky. Their eyes are wide and clearly glowing with recognition.

“Twenty! Xiaobai, you just turned twenty today!” After confirming their information, the clerk glances at the date on the certificate and sighs. “Teacher Li, just how eager were you to tie Xiaobai down?”

Li Pu smiles and replies, “Very eager.”

He is so different from the cold, aloof Teacher Li usually seen in public. When he looks at the young man, there is tenderness and light in his eyes.

Since they haven’t brought their own photos, they take them on-site.

“Come on, the two of you, get a little closer—closer still—”

How much closer? Bai Gaoxing feels a little nervous. With Li Pu’s breath so close, he can’t help but smile a little.

After the photographer takes the picture, he comments, “This picture looks great even without any touch-ups. Truly a star.”

With their two red marriage certificates in hand, Bai Gaoxing sees Li Pu take out his phone, clearly intending to snap a photo and post it to Weibo.

Bai Gaoxing can’t help but smile. The corners of his lips curve upward as he looks at the pictures of himself and Li Pu side by side on their marriage certificate.

Just then, a phone call interrupts Li Pu — the jeweler has called to say their wedding rings are ready.

Finally, with the freshly minted certificates and rings in hand, Li Pu posts a Weibo update.

Bai Gaoxing quickly follows suit.

The topic of their marriage soars in popularity, quickly overtaking the earlier breaking news about the collapse of Paohui Entertainment. Several related topics dominate the hot search rankings, making the online buzz particularly lively.

Netizens have already started a lively discussion.

【Hey, why didn’t they post the marriage certificate right after the announcement yesterday? Did they just remember to post it today?】

【Wake up, because Xiaobai didn’t reach the legal marriage age until yesterday!! Look at the date!】

【Ahhhhh, Li Pu, you’re really ruthless! [dog head emoji] Did you drag Xiaobai to get the certificate the moment the clock struck midnight? What kind of domineering CEO plot is this?!】

There are also comments about the two of them:

【Teacher Li is getting married early, really!!! If I’m not mistaken, he just turned 26 after his birthday this year?】

【I think Teacher Li will wait until after 30 to get married, but no, this man secretly finds someone—】

【Xiaobai is 20?? Time flies, he’s only 18 when he debuts two years ago! So young!】

【The two of them are quite similar, Teacher Li starts acting before he’s 19, right? Then Xiaobai also acts in his first project around this age~】

【Wait! Did the on-screen couple turn into a real couple? Ahhhhh!】

Once netizens realize this, Casino’s search ranking also rises sharply, holding steady alongside the marriage-related Weibo post at the top.

In the midst of the enthusiastic promotional atmosphere, Casino holds its premiere.

It’s unclear exactly how many people go to see the movie, but the data shows that Casino quickly climbs to the top spot at the box office that day.

Perhaps it’s the regret that creates perfection. The popularity of the second male lead’s pairing even exceeds that of the main leads. Countless people are drawn to the chemistry between Adonis and Noah—the cold, reserved man and the fragile, sun-loving youth. The former’s love, the latter’s smile, and the pure white light between them feel like the brightest glow in the movie.

No one can help but pity the young man as he languishes on his sickbed, feeling the sharp pang of watching him slowly step into death. The tear at his last moments breaks every viewer’s heart.

The movie becomes a massive hit, and so does Bai Gaoxing.

Even those who don’t care about current trends are attracted to the pure white-haired youth in the promotional photos and follow the lead to inquire online about who he is.

“Double happiness.” Lei Li congratulates both of them. “Congratulations!”

Getting married and having the movie become a huge success—this is indeed double happiness.

“But Dabai, you’ll need to be careful now. Even your human form is so popular; be careful of being chased for autographs on the street,” Lei Li says with a smile.

As it turns out, Lei Li’s concerns are valid.

After Bai Gaoxing returns to school, he’s watched by others wherever he goes, prompting him to put his hat back on.

When he returns to the dorm, he’s met with a barrage of comments from his roommates.

“Oh my God, you’re really something.” Wang Xue’s phone screen even shows the trending topics about Li Pu and Bai Gaoxing.

“I always think you wear a ring to look cool, but you’re telling me it’s an engagement ring?” Yang Juan looks complicated. “I should’ve just asked you directly.”

Bai Gaoxing coughs awkwardly. “Who wears a ring just to look cool?”

“Plenty of people,” Yang Juan replies confidently. “I used to wear one on every finger.”

That’s peak middle school syndrome. Bai Gaoxing nearly laughs just picturing it.

“It looks like… I’m not mistaken the other day. You and Teacher Li are really holding hands,” Wang Xue says helplessly. “I’m stunned.”

“You traitor,” Yang Juan leans against the backrest, arms crossed. “While the rest of us are still single, you went and got married? Your relationship speed is out of this world!”

Yan Mingyi says seriously, “It’s still good. Getting married gives you bonus points.”

Bai Gaoxing can’t help but blush at their teasing.

For a whole week, Casino maintains its spot as the top-grossing film, and by Friday afternoon, it’s time for Bai Gaoxing to return home.

The silence in the dorm is suddenly broken by a loud noise from downstairs.

“Who’s making all that noise… Ah Bai, come look!”

Yang Juan stands by the window, looking down, and spots a cold, handsome man standing downstairs surrounded by Jiangcheng University students.

The key thing is, that man looks somewhat familiar.

“What’s going on?” Bai Gaoxing walks up to the window, glances down, and sees the man waving at him.

It’s Li Pu.

!!!

He doesn’t expect Li Pu to come pick him up.

Stunned, Bai Gaoxing says goodbye to his friends, grabs his bag, and hurries downstairs, heading straight to Li Pu.

“Why are you here…?”

Before he can finish, Li Pu grabs his hand firmly — right there in public, without hesitation.

Bai Gaoxing is startled, trying to pull his hand back, but then remembers they’ve already gone public, so he holds on to Li Pu’s hand.

…Still, he can’t help feeling embarrassed.

Bai Gaoxing follows Li Pu, feeling his face flush as excited screams from the crowd echo around them.

Back in Room 303, three figures squeeze by the balcony railing, watching the scene unfold below.

“This… this is brutal,” Yang Juan mutters.

“That public display of affection… I’m not jealous at all,” Wang Xue grumbles. “Not even a little!”

…

That evening, Peter Wang shows up.

As Li Pu’s childhood friend, the blonde man comes over as soon as he hears the news.

From the moment he enters, he remains silent until half an hour later, when he looks at Li Pu in disbelief and says, “I just go abroad for a business trip, what on earth did you do!?”

Bai Gaoxing sits up straight, hands resting on his knees, his heart racing a bit.

Peter Wang gestures at the white-haired boy and asks Li Pu, “Do you remember this is the parrot you raise? Did I register him for you just to… do this?!”

Li Pu: “…”

No one knows that Bai Gaoxing is actually human — only Li Pu. It’s a secret Li Pu guards carefully, but that also means taking certain risks… such as being mistaken for a lunatic.

Words are hard to come by, and it’s a painful yet happy situation.

Peter Wang is visibly agitated. He kicks the good wine he’s brought in, walks around the large living room several times, and then plops down next to Bai Gaoxing. “Kid.”

“Huh!?” Bai Gaoxing sits up straight, becoming alert.

“Tell me, are you doing this willingly? Or are you forced?” Peter Wang stares seriously at the youth, his brown eyes burning hotter than the candlelight. “Or is this… some kind of biological instinct to stick to the closest person?”

Bai Gaoxing: “I’m doing this willingly!”

Ah… that sounds weird. He hurriedly adds, “I like Li Pu!”

Peter Wang: “……”

Peter Wang stays for dinner and opens the wine he brought with him.

He gets drunk, slaps his thigh, and says, “Alright, humans and birds have been good friends since ancient times, their bond is so deep, it’s no surprise it develops into love…”

Bai Gaoxing: “……”

Li Pu: “……”

There’s really no need to be that philosophical.

Peter Wang starts babbling nonsense, letting his imagination run wild, and in the end, he staggers off to take a taxi home, shouting, “My world view has been shaken, I demand compensation! I must have compensation!”

Watching the taxi disappear into the distance, Bai Gaoxing can’t help but laugh out loud.

Li Pu pinches his face. “Laughing, huh?”

Bai Gaoxing reaches up, placing his hand over Li Pu’s. Grinning, he teases, “Well, Mr. Li Pu, your image has completely collapsed in front of your friend.”

“Whose fault is that? Hmm?” Li Pu laughs lightly and slowly bends down.

Bai Gaoxing looks at him — his eyes reflecting the stars and Li Pu’s face — then slowly closes his eyes.

…

Time passes, and September arrives.

In the past few months, the movie Birdsong has been released, and the parrot Dabai becomes popular again. Li Pu’s Xinghuo account also features more images of Dabai.

Bai Gaoxing has successfully moved up to his second year of college.

For those still studying, there isn’t much of a honeymoon period. After getting their marriage certificate, he and Li Pu continue living much the same as before — except for more frequent activities, a sore back, and more puffy eyes, not much has changed.

But for Bai Gaoxing, the most troublesome part is the fans’ requests for him and Dabai to appear together on screen.

Of course, that’s not going to happen!

He can only say he’s too busy with school and can’t reply to any comments.

“This is indeed a problem because you’re about to face a choice about it.”

At that moment, Lei Li sits at the desk, hands crossed as she looks at the couple in front of her.

“As for the Iris International Film Festival at the end of the month, both of you have been nominated. At the same time, Casino and Birdsong have both been shortlisted.”

Wow. Bai Gaoxing nods. That’s good news.

“But there’s one problem.” Lei Li’s expression turns thoughtful.

“What problem?” Li Pu asks.

Lei Li smiles and says, “The organizers specifically sent me a letter… saying that an actor is just an actor and should not be treated differently because of their identity.”

Bai Gaoxing suddenly has a foreboding feeling.

Lei Li reveals a very interested expression:

“Dabai and Xiaobai are both nominated. Who will go?”
