Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Before receiving the news that his parents are coming back for the New Year, Li Pu and Bai Gaoxing are lying in bed, enjoying each other’s company.

It’s still morning, with large snowflakes falling outside the window. The curtains are half-drawn, casting faint shadows inside the room.

In this couple, where one is an actor and the other a university student, meeting every week is still too idealistic. One has a busy schedule flying around for work, while the other is swamped with exams. As the second half of the year passes, the chances of meeting become fewer and fewer. Finally, when the winter vacation comes, Li Pu, who has finally been able to take a break from work, has time to hold his little parrot.

Though they aren’t yet legally married, the two have long embraced the meaning of the word.

Hugging, kissing, and then eagerly seeking something even more intimate.

Even in human form, Dabai still has those same clear, black eyes—enough to melt anyone’s heart. He also keeps his parrot-like habits, rubbing against Li Pu, leaning on him, and gazing at him intensely.

Having stayed up too late the night before, Li Pu raises his hand to stroke the boy’s soft hair. “Close your eyes and sleep.”

Bai Gaoxing flips over, propping himself up with one arm and looking down at Li Pu. “I’m not tired, I want to look at you more.”

His eyes sparkle with laughter, making it hard to look away.

Li Pu, however, is focused elsewhere—on the hickeys running from the boy’s neck down to his chest, which stand out starkly against his snow-white skin. Only Li Pu knows how many more there are on the boy’s back, trailing down to more private areas.

But what draws his attention even more is the faint white scar on the inside of the boy’s arm.

He has only noticed it today, and upon recalling, they remember it’s from when the boy was scratched by a knife on a variety show.

Li Pu’s gaze shifts slightly, and he pulls the boy underneath him but doesn’t go any further. Instead, he reaches out to gently trace the scar.

“Don’t do dangerous things like that again.”

“I know, you’ve already told me once.” Bai Gaoxing squeezes Li Pu’s arm.

“Told you? When?”

Bai Gaoxing remembers clearly. “On the variety show.”

At the time, he had been surprised that Li Pu would say something like that to a parrot, as if he believed a parrot could understand him.

Seeing the thoughtful look on Li Pu’s face, Bai Gaoxing finds it amusing and cute. He raises his arm, cups Li Pu’s face, and begins to rub it. “It’ll go away in a while, it’s just taking time to heal.”

Li Pu smiles faintly, leaning down slowly, their noses nearly touching…

“Buzz—” The phone on the nightstand rings.

Li Pu reaches over and picks it up, showing a slightly surprised expression.

Bai Gaoxing curiously leans forward. “Who is it?”

The caller ID: Mom.

Li Pu answers the phone, and a joyful voice comes from the other end. “Son, I’m downstairs! Come get the things!”

After the call ends, Li Pu and Bai Gaoxing exchange glances. In a flash, Bai Gaoxing is out from under Li Pu, frantically getting dressed.

Li Pu is just as quick.

Bai Gaoxing spreads the quilt back over the bed, opens the curtains, and then freezes.

“I’ll clean up! No, wait, should I go out and hide? No, I should—”

Seeing Bai Gaoxing flustered, Li Pu can’t help but laugh as he pulls him back. “Don’t worry, they’re just here to celebrate the New Year.”

But it’s so sudden!

Bai Gaoxing’s mind goes blank. He knows that Li Pu’s parents are usually busy and that they rarely see each other. He has been wondering if they wouldn’t come back this year, but it turns out to be the opposite.

“Then… how do I introduce myself to Uncle and Aunt?”

Li Pu looks at Bai Gaoxing, his smile deepening slightly. “They already know.”

Bai Gaoxing: ???

…

Before opening the door to welcome Li Pu’s mother, Li Pu quickly buttons the top button of Bai Gaoxing’s shirt, covering the hickey that’s a little too high up.

“I’m back!” The moment Li Pu’s mother enters, she pulls him into a bear hug. Then she stands on tiptoe to kiss his cheek as a show of affection. Even with her heels on, she can’t quite reach and eventually gives up.

Watching this sequence unfold leaves Bai Gaoxing stunned. He has seen Li Pu’s mother during video calls and knows she’s an energetic, outgoing person, but he hadn’t expected her to be so enthusiastic in person!

Seeing Li Pu’s familiar yet resigned expression, Bai Gaoxing can’t help but smile. He realizes that this dynamic between mother and son explains a lot about Li Pu’s calm personality—likely developed as a counterbalance to his mother’s liveliness.

Before he can figure out what’s going on, Bai Gaoxing sees Li Pu’s mother turn around and set her eyes on him.

Target locked.

Bai Gaoxing freezes and starts to panic, watching Li Pu’s mother walk toward him with a beaming smile and give him a hug.

“Xiaobai, I’ve been wanting to meet you for a long time, but I’ve been too busy. I’m so glad to finally see you. I hope you don’t think I’m neglecting you,” Li Pu’s mother says affectionately, her gaze full of fondness, making Bai Gaoxing feel very embarrassed.

Just as he’s about to say it’s fine, he hears the next sentence: “Mom brought you a present, see if you like it?”

Bai Gaoxing is stunned.

Mom… Mom… the word echoes in his head. He looks at Li Pu in surprise, unsure of what expression to convey.

Li Pu coughs. “Mom, we’re not married yet.”

His mother knows him well. After he told her he’s with Bai Gaoxing, she immediately responded with, “You two must be planning to get married, right?”

Of course, the answer is yes.

But he hadn’t expected—or perhaps he had forgotten to mention—that they aren’t actually married yet.

Li Pu’s mother is momentarily taken aback but quickly resumes her warm smile, takes out the present, and turns to Li Pu. “Go help your dad with the stuff!”

Bai Gaoxing quickly volunteers to go too.

On their way downstairs, Li Pu’s mother finally finds a chance to pull her son aside.

“Why haven’t you gotten the marriage certificate yet? Don’t you like him very much? I know the entertainment industry cares a lot about public opinion, but this kind of responsibility isn’t something you can’t handle… You don’t want to take responsibility for him, do you?”

“No,” Li Pu replies helplessly. “He’s not of age yet.”

Li Pu’s mother suddenly stops in her tracks. “What did you say?” She grabs Li Pu’s sleeve with a very serious expression. “Your father and I aren’t asking for much, we just want you to be a law-abiding person…”

The scene feels oddly familiar.

Li Pu begins to question his image in the eyes of his loved ones.

But he has experience with this. He replies calmly, “Mom, Bai Gaoxing is already an adult. He’s soon old enough to get married.”

Li Pu’s mother lets out a relieved sigh. “Oh~ Well, that’s good.”

Finally, after everything is sorted, the four of them sit down together.

If Bai Gaoxing thinks Li Pu’s clingy nature comes from his mother when he first meets her, he now understands where Li Pu’s calm and composed side comes from — his father.

Li Pu’s father, sitting on the sofa, calmly flipping through a newspaper, has the exact same aura as Li Pu reading a script!

… But where does this newspaper even come from?

Li Pu’s father has an aura of authority, as if he’s the older version of a domineering CEO from a novel. Bai Gaoxing watches him with a mix of respect and anxiety.

The nervousness disappears after Li Pu’s mother feeds Li Pu’s father some fruit. Seeing him soften and even say, “Thank you, dear,” makes Bai Gaoxing feel more at ease.

The New Year’s Eve dinner is prepared by Li Pu and his father, while Bai Gaoxing is pulled into the living room to chat with Li Pu’s mother.

It seems that cooking is also a male family trait?

Bai Gaoxing glances at the kitchen, and Li Pu’s mother smiles at him. “I thought Li Pu would be single his whole life. That child has always been so independent; neither his father nor I could control him… I never expected…” She sounds a little sentimental, but in the end, her emotions turn into words as she pulls something from her pocket and hands it to Bai Gaoxing.

Bai Gaoxing looks at it closely. A bank card?

He hurriedly declines, “No, no, no, Auntie, I can’t—”

“Soon you won’t be calling me Auntie anymore,” Li Pu’s mother smiles even more brightly. “Last year, what you called me was just right. What’s the point of being polite when we’re family?”

Bai Gaoxing’s cheeks flush slightly. He remembers the wrong title he had called her back then, and it’s something he’ll probably never forget in this lifetime.

He had originally thought that the wish of having a family would never be realized, but the reality is the opposite… Words can’t describe how he feels in that moment. A mix of sourness and touching emotions stirs in his heart, almost bringing him to tears.

The New Year’s Eve dinner lasts quite a while, and the four of them make the house feel livelier. The casual chatting is enjoyable and never tiring to listen to. Bai Gaoxing starts out just listening, but eventually gets caught up in the conversation, almost blurting out a few times.

Especially when it comes to questions like these:

“Son, where’s the parrot you’re raising?”

Bai Gaoxing: “Ah…”

Li Pu remains calm, “He has a recent gig, so I’ve left him with my assistant to take care of.”

“How did you and Xiaobai meet?”

Bai Gaoxing: “Uh…”

Li Pu: “Peter’s cousin, we met by chance.”

Just like when they arrived, Li Pu’s parents leave in a hurry too.

“There’s some work at the company, so I’ll go back with your dad. We won’t stay longer,” Li Pu’s mother says as she heads downstairs. Bai Gaoxing follows her to see them off, while Li Pu’s father slowly comes down the stairs, chatting with Li Pu about father-son matters.

After seeing the two elders off and watching them get in the car, Bai Gaoxing suddenly feels something familiar pressed into his hand. This time, it’s from Li Pu’s father.

Looking at the car disappearing into the distance, he raises his hand, and under the moonlight, he sees two bank cards.

He deeply feels the warmth and generosity of Li Pu’s parents.

…

The rest of the winter break passes joyfully.

Bai Gaoxing and Li Pu go on short trips, skiing, ice skating, and admiring ice sculptures. Their pictures are taken by tourists who recognize them, sparking discussions on Weibo and forums.

【Teacher Li and Xiaobai have such a great relationship~】

【Really, I saw Teacher Li picking up Xiaobai on the first day of the break. Proof from Jiang University students!】

【Aren’t you used to it? They’ve been feeding each other with their hands in M country before!】

【Hey, you can’t say that. Teacher Li had an injured hand at the time! Though you can always see them together on set, even when other actors post photos, they’re always standing together…】

【….】

【Seriously, are they together or not?】

【….】

【….】

【No! Xiaobai, you’re still young, Mama doesn’t allow you to date, woo woo!】

【I fully support it! Please get married! I ship them so much!!】

【Teacher Li is excellent in every way, so is he ahead of his peers in relationships too?】

【Wow, look at this [shoulder embrace] [waist hold] [sweet eye contact]~】

The CP of Li Pu × Xiaobai reaches new heights, even overshadowing the Li Pu × Dabai pairing at one point.

At first, curious onlookers think the two fanbases will clash, but after some digging, they realize—these two groups are actually very overlapping!

It’s one big harmony.

As the winter break comes to an end, netizens have gotten so used to the idea of Li Pu and Xiaobai being together that when Li Pu drops him off at school, it doesn’t cause much of a stir.

—Yes, by the previous semester, Bai Gaoxing has already been recognized by his classmates. What starts as curiosity among the class spreads to the whole faculty and eventually the entire school, all in less than two months.

Then the innocent, cute college students get used to it, and Bai Gaoxing successfully finds a peaceful environment on campus.

However, having so many people know him also has its drawbacks, like being constantly stopped for greetings during walks, leaving him exhausted and parched.

A new semester, a new look.

The dormitory atmosphere is also new.

Within just a few days of the new semester, the situation in the dorm has changed completely from the beginning of the previous one.

Entering the room, Yan Ming isn’t there—clearly off to a work-study job. Yang Juan is wearing headphones, live streaming while playing games. Wang Xue is trying on his new clothes, giving a sly smile.

It seems like a coincidence from another world—after just two weeks of hiding, his dear roommates begin to gradually reveal their true nature and jobs:

Yang Juan is a gaming streamer. Wang Xue is a cross-dressing streamer and a “female crossdresser” at that.

Who would’ve guessed, Wang Xue!

It’s oddly in sync with the characteristics of his former roommates from the other world.

And their behavior, too.

After the first week of the new semester, Yang Juan extends a sincere invitation to him: “Wanna play a co-op game? It’s pretty fun.”

Bai Gaoxing instinctively asks, “Are you streaming?”

“Of course.”

“Then forget it.” Bai Gaoxing quickly shakes his head.

Yang Juan takes the refusal as an issue of adjustment, so he asks, “Xiaobai, haven’t you ever streamed?”

Haven’t I ever streamed? Bai Gaoxing silently repeats the question in his mind, wanting to say, “How could I not? I have over a hundred streams! I’m super experienced!”

But all he can say is, “Haha, yeah, right.”

At the start of the new semester, many people begin preparing for their exams and certifications.

Under the influence of the academic achiever, Yan Ming, the whole dormitory often goes to the library together in the evenings to borrow materials and read.

This Friday, after Bai Gaoxing and his roommates go downstairs, they see a familiar figure at the intersection leading to the library.

“Is that…?” Yang Juan quickly notices where Bai Gaoxing is looking and squints.

“Li Pu?” Wang Xue asks incredulously.

How could Li Pu be here at this time? Isn’t he leaving tomorrow? Bai Gaoxing is still wondering when Li Pu walks over.

He explains that he’s “borrowing” Bai Gaoxing for a bit, and the roommates all express understanding.

It’s probably for work! Work is important.

Bai Gaoxing has no choice but to greet everyone and follows Li Pu as they gradually walk away.

With doubts still on his mind, Wang Xue turns around at that moment, patting the shoulders of the two people on his left and right.

“Do you guys see… are they holding hands?”

…

The two of them have already walked out of sight.

Bai Gaoxing asks curiously, “What brings you here tonight?”

Li Pu looks at him, his deep eyes holding a hint of meaning. “Your birthday is coming up.”

Birthday…

Bai Gaoxing’s ears heat up. He wouldn’t forget—it’s the day they’ve agreed to register their marriage on his 20th birthday.

“But that’s next week,” he asks awkwardly, “Isn’t it too early?”

“It’s not early.”

Li Pu answers and then stops, a smile playing on his lips. “I’ve already booked the designer. We’re going tomorrow.”

Bai Gaoxing hasn’t processed it yet, until he hears the next words:

“What kind of wedding ring do you like?”
