I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 141
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
This scene is truly a bit eerie.
The weather isn’t great today, the sky is dark and gray. Li Pu stands under the cloudless sky, the parrot perched on him looking even whiter, almost glowing faintly.
If the parrot doesn’t tilt its head and scratch itself with its claws, showing the typical behavior of a small animal, Director Sun might truly think that Dabai has turned into a spirit.
… And Li Pu isn’t the type to intentionally scare people.
Director Sun wipes the cold sweat from his forehead. “I didn’t expect that after a year, you’ve completely trained Dabai under your control.” He glances at the large parrot on Li Pu’s shoulder, still feeling uneasy, and asks, “Are you sure… it’s really fine like this?”
Li Pu nods. “Really, it’s fine.”
Director Sun tries to scare him. “If Dabai flies away, I’m not taking responsibility!”
Li Pu smiles. “Dabai won’t fly off randomly.”
As if in response, the snow-white parrot rubs against the man’s face and lets out a squawk.
Birdsong is being filmed at a villa in the suburbs, which, according to Director Sun, has been provided by a friend and has been abandoned for a long time. It stands alone in the mountains.
On the outside, it seems like a rather delicate and beautiful house, but after being unattended for so long, with wild grass growing in October and vines creeping up the walls, coupled with the cloudy weather, it gives off an eerie atmosphere.
“Why does this place feel so creepy…” Bai Gaoxing mutters in Li Pu’s ear.
Li Pu pats the parrot’s head.
“Huh? Did you say something, Teacher Li?” Director Sun turns around.
Bai Gaoxing coughs a few times and pretends nothing happened.
Director Sun is driving them up the mountain. The road leading to the villa is paved neatly and beautifully, wide enough for three cars to pass side by side. However, Director Sun explains that during the filming, the actors will have to walk from another path, the one with no road, as it will create a better effect.
Bai Gaoxing glances at the so-called “path with no road” — overgrown with weeds and uneven, it looks like something might jump out at any moment, like a snake or the chance of falling into a ditch.
It’s rather frightening.
Finally, as they near the villa, Director Sun parks the car and hesitates for a moment before turning off the engine. He opens the door and asks, “Teacher Li, there’ll be a lot of people later. Are you sure you don’t want to put Dabai in the bag?”
Li Pu exchanges a glance with Bai Gaoxing and replies, “No need.”
“Just put it in, just put it in.” Director Sun is genuinely worried.
To avoid leaving Director Sun with any lasting mental scars, Bai Gaoxing voluntarily climbs into the birdbag and lets Li Pu carry him.
As they approach the villa, they see that the equipment has already been set up, and the area where the filming won’t take place has been cleared, with tables and chairs arranged. The tables are covered with bottles and jars, all containing insect repellent.
“Ouch, it bit me…” A woman, dressed in a long-sleeved dress and sandals, swats away the mosquitoes around her feet.
“Ha-ha, Qing Jie, let me light a mosquito coil for you,” a young man holding a fan offers, fanning the air.
Bai Gaoxing squints his eyes and observes for a while, realizing that the woman is a familiar face — Huang Shaqing, who plays the Empress in The Long Song.
At the moment, Huang Shaqing’s face is full of frustration, her once pure expression now showing her desire to strangle everyone around her.
As for the young man beside her, Bai Gaoxing doesn’t recognize him.
While Bai Gaoxing observes, Director Sun and Li Pu have already approached. Huang Shaqing notices them and stands up to greet them. “You’re back, Director Sun, Teacher Li — hey, Dabai!”
Bai Gaoxing immediately pops out from the unzipped bag and greets them, “Hi~~”
“You’ve worked together before, so I won’t introduce you two. Huang Shaqing, Xia Tian — this is Teacher Li, and his Dabai is your co-star for this shoot.”
Xia Tian, a stranger, seems to have heard of Dabai. After Director Sun’s introduction, Bai Gaoxing notices Xia Tian’s curious gaze as he approaches and asks, “Can I touch him?” Xia Tian asks, extending his finger.
Bai Gaoxing opens his beak wide and suddenly bites down.
“Ah—!” Xia Tian winces in pain but then calmly says, “That didn’t even hurt.”
Huang Shaqing also steps forward and speaks warmly, “Dabai, do you still remember me?”
Bai Gaoxing nods. “I remember, I remember~”
Director Sun says, “Everyone’s here, so let’s familiarize ourselves with the location today.” He turns to ask, “Teacher Li, would you like to take Dabai around, or should we?”
Li Pu smiles gently. “I have time today. I’ll do it.”
Li Pu lifts the birdbag, and Huang Shaqing reaches out to block Bai Gaoxing, whispering for him to be careful. However, in the next moment, Bai Gaoxing flies straight up, heading for the villa that has already caught his interest.
The sound of flapping wings fills the air, and everyone present sees a flash of snow-white feathers shoot out before flying far away.
The closest to him, Huang Shaqing and Xia Tian, both freeze in place.
“Ah, ah, ah, there’s no flight leash, what do we do?!!!”
“Quick, quick, quick, help!”
“What do we do??? Is there a net?”
The two of them immediately start panicking, spinning around in circles, almost bumping into each other. Only Li Pu, standing aside, remains calm, as if the bird isn’t his.
“Teacher Li, please do something!!!” Huang Shaqing is so terrified that she loses all composure.
Li Pu replies calmly, “It’s fine, Dabai will come back.”
Really???
Everyone looks at the sky, which is now completely clear of any sign of the bird. Their hearts pound in their chests.
Meanwhile, the bird in question has already flown to the back of the villa.
Unlike humans, Bai Gaoxing can see everything below him in full view, and he can choose any angle he wants — something he’s been itching to try for a long time. He’s wanted to do this back on the set of The Long Song, but Li Pu kept a close eye on him then, worried he’d break free and fly off.
In truth, there isn’t much to see in the wilderness, so Bai Gaoxing quickly loses interest and turns back.
By the time the others see the bird’s figure becoming clearer in the sky, it finally lands back on Li Pu’s shoulder, and the admiration in their hearts surges like a river.
“Goodness, did Dabai go to school this past year?” Huang Shaqing asks, trembling.
It has to be said, from a certain perspective, this is the truth.
Bai Gaoxing squawks.
“It’s good that Dabai doesn’t fly off randomly… but still, be careful,” Director Sun says, clutching his chest. “Let’s head up.”
…
The villa has three floors.
The protagonist of the story is exploring the strange and quiet villa, and by chance, he ends up on the third floor, where he sees a bird in a shabby cage. Curious, he approaches, puzzled as to why there’s a bird locked in a cage in a villa with no one around.
Just as his hand is about to touch the cage door, the bird lets out a woman’s tragic cry.
The protagonist freezes, then hears the bird pecking the perch inside the cage with its beak. After three repetitive knocks, the bird pushes the door open and flies out through the already broken window.
The prop team is setting up the birdcage—it was originally intended to look more cozy, but after Director Sun’s repeated suggestions, it has turned into a twisted, slightly rusted iron cage.
“This door is broken, but it can be opened from the inside,” Director Sun points to the small mechanism behind the cage door. “We’ll need to teach Dabai how to open it when the time comes.”
Li Pu glances at it and simply says, “Okay.”
Okay? Director Sun looks at Li Pu in confusion. He has even hired a trainer this time. Could it be that Li Pu is planning to teach it himself?
“We also made a fake tail feather for Dabai to wear,” Director Sun continues. The prop team pulls out some messy, curled, and slightly dirty feathers, and Director Sun explains, “Dabai looks too clean right now.”
Fair enough. Bai Gaoxing glances at himself. Well… that’s true. His feathers are a bit too sleek and pristine.
Xia Tian, a young actor in his early twenties, looks very youthful and has the kind of face that immediately makes him seem like the protagonist.
As Bai Gaoxing’s only co-star, Xia Tian is instructed to get familiar with Dabai.
Watching the young man walk around him, trying to feed him, Bai Gaoxing raises his paw in refusal: It’s fine, we’re already familiar enough.
Half an hour later, Bai Gaoxing is already able to shake hands with Xia Tian in a friendly manner.
Xia Tian still feels a chill around him but can’t figure out where it’s coming from. He gently rubs the paw that’s holding his hand.
Li Pu directly says, “That’s enough. I’ll teach Dabai now.”
Xia Tian quickly lets go of his hand, “Okay, okay, please, please.”
Bai Gaoxing watches Li Pu gently press on his paw and quickly shrinks back.
Why is this guy still jealous?!
…
News that Dabai has “returned to the arena” spreads quickly.
As fans eagerly await, someone posts a video from the set showing the large white parrot spreading its wings and flying, which quickly results in a flurry of panicked comments:
【What’s going on? Did Dabai fly away?!】
The scene of the bird suddenly taking off in the wild is terrifying, and it’s clear that Dabai has no flight leash attached to his foot.
【It’s over, it’s over, it’s free now】
【I’ve done this before—watched my chicken fly away. Hope it meets a kind person. TAT】
【This is in the mountains, right? Can it even be found? There could be wild beasts or snakes around…】
There are cries, wails, and complaints about Li Pu being irresponsible. The comment section turns into chaos until Director Sun posts a new video.
“Don’t worry, Dabai didn’t fly away. Teacher Li…” The video cuts to a scene showing Li Pu releasing the parrot — and then calmly calling him back. “Teacher Li is doing special training with Dabai.”
Netizens: ???
What kind of large white boomerang is this?
Dabai was too clingy!
【Dabai is my dream chicken】
【Wodema, that clingy feeling that won’t go away no matter what! I’m done】
Fans’ moods fluctuate, and the high level of discussion creates a wave of topics.
Meanwhile, just two hours after arriving on set, Bai Gaoxing has already begun rehearsing.
“The sound the bird makes when pecking is actually a distress signal. The universal distress signal is SOS, which, in Morse code, is three short, three long, and three short.” The trainer mimics the rhythm with his fingers on the table. “It sounds like ‘dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot.’”
“Dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot.” A similar sound echoes.
The trainer nods. “Yes, that’s right. Teacher Li, you—”
But Li Pu just stands there with his arms crossed, not moving at all.
Bai Gaoxing happily taps the cage, making the same rhythm: dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot.
The trainer feels useless.
This is supposed to be the most difficult signal the parrot needs to perform in the entire movie. How has he picked it up in a second?!
【I think Dabai’s turned into a spirit.】 That night, the trainer posts this comment on his personal Weibo.
It sparks a flurry of discussion.
The trainer himself has some fame, and his words are supported by fans who believe Dabai is equal to Xiaobai, and then he’s warned by the official blog to stop promoting superstitions.
Luckily, this world is very scientific.
That night, Bai Gaoxing lies on the bed, scrolling through a stream of strongly supportive comments before he puts his phone down.
He casually pushes Li Pu away, opening his slightly swollen beak to suck in some cool air.
Seriously…
With filming set to begin the next day, he should rest up and embrace his parrot form for a good night’s sleep.
