I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 104
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
A few minutes later, Bai Gaoxing walks out of the restroom.
He takes off his mask, which he has been wearing for a long time, and removes the glasses that have been pressing on his nose. As he looks up, he freezes on the spot.
Earlier, when he was following Li Pu, he hadn’t noticed anything unusual, but now, looking around, the audition scene is almost entirely filled with tall foreign people, especially the men. Whether young or older, they stand like sturdy telephone poles. Most of them are wearing dark suits, exuding a strong aura and an undeniable sense of pressure.
In comparison, he is the only short, weak, and helpless one among the many poles.
The atmosphere is overwhelming. Bai Gaoxing sighs inwardly as he maneuvers through the crowd, trying to find the corner where he had been sitting earlier. However, he can’t tell which way to go. After circling twice, he still can’t find where Li Pu had sat.
At this point, he notices that some people are looking at him and whispering among themselves.
Bai Gaoxing tilts his head as calmly as possible. Being out and about, he doesn’t want to attract attention, so he decides to sneak past through the aisle.
But in the next second, two men and one woman stop him.
“Hey, are you here for the audition too?” asks the man with chocolate-colored skin.
Is… that Italian? Bai Gaoxing pauses for a moment as his brain automatically starts to process the language.
He looks up and sees the three people in front of him displaying looks of surprise, taking an exaggerated breath.
“…?”
Perhaps his confused expression makes it seem like he doesn’t understand, so before he can respond, the short-haired blonde woman asks him again in English, offering a friendly smile.
Bai Gaoxing is a bit surprised, not understanding why they mistake him for an actor coming for the audition. Just as he is about to speak, he sees the chocolate-skinned man nudge the other man and wink at him, saying, “See? He really fits the role.”
Fits? Fits what role? What do they mean?
Bai Gaoxing is baffled but politely replies in English, “Sorry, I’m not here for the audition. I’m just an assistant.”
The three of them are clearly stunned. The chocolate-skinned man says in surprise, “Really? I thought—”
Thought…?
The three exchange glances and realize their reasoning isn’t solid.
It was just a casual glance, and they had noticed the young man standing by the window. The gentle sunlight falls on him, giving off a pure and serene vibe. Among so many people in the venue, the young man seems like the brightest and most lively part of a painting, drawing everyone’s attention.
And after seeing his face, with those clear eyes and adorable features, they are even more astonished.
He looks exactly like Noah from the script…
But the young man isn’t here for the audition, which is completely unexpected for them.
The three of them can’t help but feel a little disappointed and then respond to the looks being cast at them from around the room. In fact, many people have noticed this young man—after all, anyone who comes here could potentially be a co-star in the film, so it is important to observe and see if there are any competitors or potential partners.
Now, they might regret it, but the actor auditioning for Noah would probably be pleased.
“Why are you still here?”
Suddenly, Bai Gaoxing feels a hand on his shoulder, and then a figure appears in front of him.
It’s Li Pu.
The man’s words are directed at him, but his gaze is focused on the three people in front of him.
Bai Gaoxing freezes for a moment, feeling both relieved and a bit surprised, then answers, “They seem to want to talk to me, so I got delayed.” He pauses and whispers, “Also… I couldn’t find you earlier.”
Bai Gaoxing turns back and sees the corner where he had been sitting earlier. Mei Youshu is standing there, staring straight at them.
It seems like… Li Pu came specifically to find him?
Lost in thought, Bai Gaoxing barely notices that Li Pu has already exchanged a few words with the three people and received three apologetic smiles. Then, Li Pu turns and places a hand on his back, saying, “Let’s go back.”
“Oh…” Bai Gaoxing nods dizzily, puts his mask and glasses back on, and follows Li Pu. He can’t help but glance back, seeing that the three of them are still happily waving at him.
Back at their spot, Mei Youshu lets out a sigh of relief. “We were about to have a heart attack, waiting for you to come back.”
Especially when he saw the young man surrounded by three tall, burly foreign individuals, Mei Youshu notices Li Pu immediately put away his phone and head toward them.
Bai Gaoxing doesn’t pay attention to Li Pu’s expression and sighs. “I didn’t expect the venue to be so large… There are so many people.” After speaking, he gives a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, I won’t get lost.”
Li Pu doesn’t respond and flips open the script again.
“Well… be careful next time.” Mei Youshu glances at Dabai, then at Li Pu, saying this before quietly closing his mouth.
When the time comes, the audition begins.
As a staff member calls the names, the actors start walking into a room not far away—the director and screenwriter are waiting inside.
Sometimes one person at a time, sometimes two, but without exception, it adds to the tense atmosphere. The crowd suddenly falls silent, and the only sounds in the room are the shuffle of feet and occasional sighs.
It isn’t long before someone comes out.
Most of them walk out with disappointed faces, clearly not selected; occasionally, someone exits with a smile, but it seems they don’t care much.
It doesn’t seem as easy as he imagined.
Bai Gaoxing swallows and subtly shows signs of worry.
On the side, Lei Li notices his mood and reassures him, “Don’t worry. If there’s nothing wrong, the chances of success in the audition are pretty high.”
Then, Bai Gaoxing hears Director Frank, upon receiving Li Pu’s first audition, show genuine interest and express a willingness to work with him.
“Among these black-haired, dark-eyed candidates, the only one really competitive is the one from Paohui Entertainment.” Lei Li nods in the direction.
Bai Gaoxing follows her gaze and sees the sullen-faced mixed-race man.
What was his name again?
“Park Jiahui, debuted as a child star, very popular domestically, his acting is decent.” Lei Li briefly introduces the person. “But…”
Her expression grows darker.
“But what?” Bai Gaoxing asks curiously.
Lei Li looks at the young man’s clean expression and ruffles his hair with a smile. “You don’t need to know about such things.”
It seems to be some industry secret. Bai Gaoxing rubs his nose and suppresses his curiosity.
Soon, it’s Li Pu’s turn for the audition.
Just as Bai Gaoxing is about to say a few words of encouragement, the staff calls the next name.
It’s Park Jiahui.
Whether lucky or unlucky, this time it’s a two-person group.
In the distance, the tall man slowly stands up, his eyes filled with challenge. He then raises an eyebrow, his lips curving into a relaxed smile.
Lei Li frowns slightly and tells Li Pu, “Be careful,” as she watches him walk toward the audition room.
Bai Gaoxing watches Li Pu walk farther away, and Park Jiahui, still smiling, waits for him before also turning around. In the end, only their backs are left in view.
…
In the audition room, Director Frank is arguing fiercely with the screenwriter.
“Alright, my dear, I know you rely heavily on instinct for this, but we’ve already seen over two hundred ‘Noahs’ in the last audition. And now, this time we have one hundred and twenty more—don’t we need to choose one?”
“I’ve said it many times, ‘Noah,’ I need to find the most suitable person!”
“With your requirements… Ah, do you want to leave the role of Noah empty? Didn’t you see all those beautiful young men earlier? And there are so many pretty girls too!”
“None of them work! Didn’t you see those people earlier? Each of them was huge, with broad shoulders and thick waists—if they took their shirts off, their muscles could suffocate someone! As for the girls… there were two or three who were okay, but I still want a boy.”
“You’re so stubborn! At this rate, we might not even start filming next year!”
“Who cares? Even if Noah only lives on in memories, I don’t want to pick someone just to torture my eyes!”
“…”
When Li Pu pushes the door open, he sees the bearded director with his hair tied in braids and the brown-haired woman next to him glaring at each other. The others sit nearby, unmoved, as if they’re used to it.
Seeing them arrive, the two quickly change their expressions and smile. “Alright, welcome.”
Director Frank has a strong impression of these two Chinese actors. After watching so many eye-torturing audition clips, he finally feels cleansed by both their looks and acting.
Unless something unexpected happens, the role of the second male lead, “Adonis,” is likely to be chosen between these two.
“Okay, let’s get to the point,” Frank switches to English. “Both of your performances were outstanding, so this time, I want to see your improvisation.”
The blonde, blue-eyed director stares at the two with intense scrutiny and anticipation. “Adonis is a character full of tragic elements. His ending is the complete opposite of the male lead’s, but on a spiritual level, he surpasses the male lead and never regrets anything he’s done.”
“And emotionally, there is only regret,” the screenwriter adds.
Frank smiles. “Now, I want you to perform—”
…
In the lobby, Bai Gaoxing sits on a chair, idly swinging his legs to kill time.
It has been more than half an hour since Li Pu entered, a stark contrast to the others who came out in five or ten minutes. He’s so distracted that he doesn’t even feel like checking his phone.
Looks like there’s a chance?
But Park Jiahui also hasn’t come out. Could they be stuck in a dilemma about the decision? Bai Gaoxing muses, biting into a macaron that Mei Youshu bought for him.
… So sweet!
Bai Gaoxing’s face scrunches up as he glances at the door of the room opening in the distance and sees Li Pu walking out.
Lei Li and Mei Youshu both turn their heads to look, and he has already stood up from his seat and jogged over to Li Pu.
“How was it?” Bai Gaoxing cranes his neck to look toward the room, but all he can see is a corner of a prop chair, nothing else.
The door is promptly closed by the staff from the inside.
“Very smooth,” Li Pu replies as he walks, reaching over to pat Dabai’s head.
Lei Li now knows what’s up, her eyes showing a hint of a smile, though it’s soon replaced with confusion. “Then why is Park Jiahui still inside?”
Li Pu shakes his head. “Not sure.”
Bai Gaoxing doesn’t care about that person; just passing the audition is something worth celebrating! He throws an arm around Li Pu’s shoulder but, due to their height difference, ends up wrapping his arm around his arm instead. “So, how about we go for a big meal?”
Meanwhile, in the audition room, Frank gives Park Jiahui a kind smile. “Though we have already selected someone for Adonis, there’s another role I think you’re perfect for.”
He seems regretful that this handsome man hasn’t been selected for the role. “Your performance was impressive as well, but I still prefer the feeling that Teacher Li Pu’s performance gave me.”
“So, would you be willing to try another role?”
Park Jiahui smiles, though no one sees his left hand tightly clenched.
“Of course, sir. It would be my honor.”
…
Thanks to the efficient audition process, their trip to France ends with a big meal.
It has been drizzling lightly, so they don’t linger too long, canceling plans to sightsee in France and instead choosing to return home that evening.
On the flight back, Bai Gaoxing relishes the foie gras, cheese, and escargot, snuggling next to Li Pu as he dreams of eating extravagantly.
After a night of travel, they arrive at Jiangcheng airport at dawn.
Bai Gaoxing takes off his eye mask, yawns, stares blankly out the window for a moment, rubs his eyes, and gets up, ready to follow Li Pu down.
But just as they’re about to step out of the first-class cabin, Lei Li raises her hand to block their way.
“Li Pu,” she says, “I didn’t tell you earlier because I was worried it would affect your audition.”
Mei Youshu nods in agreement.
Lei Li silently raises her phone and opens the trending topics from the day before in China.
Bai Gaoxing’s eyes widen, all sleepiness gone—there’s a photo of him and Li Pu boarding the plane.
When does this happen!?
He stares incredulously at Li Pu, suddenly realizing that he missed the news because he hasn’t been on the internet for a whole day.
So, what’s going on now?
Do all the fans, and maybe even more people, now know there’s a stranger next to Li Pu?
And a… mysterious person who suddenly appeared and can’t be tracked down?
Bai Gaoxing can’t help but shiver.
Seeing Li Pu’s equally shocked expression, Lei Li clears her throat and says seriously, “So, before you get off the plane, have you thought about how you’re going to explain this to your fans?”
