I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 102
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
So, on the way back, the two of them purposely go to an eyewear store and buy a pair of black-framed glasses with no prescription.
“This way, I definitely won’t stand out!”
Since the store is crowded, Bai Gaoxing quickly picks a pair that seems suitable and makes the purchase. Back home, he puts them on and stands in front of the mirror for a closer look.
Bai Gaoxing nods in satisfaction. He feels the glasses transform him into someone plain and unassuming. If he adds a hat, he thinks he could blend into a crowd without drawing attention.
“How is it?” he asks, turning his head to seek a second opinion.
The boy in the mirror has soft, fluffy white hair—a rare and striking color. Rather than making him look ordinary, the black-framed glasses only emphasize his unique charm. His clear, bright eyes, partially hidden by the lenses, make one feel it’s almost a pity to cover such beauty.
Li Pu stands a short distance away, watching the boy who seems entirely unaware of his own appeal. With a slight nod, he says, “Yeah.”
Encouraged by this approval, Bai Gaoxing decides he will adopt this look when going out in the future. Still wearing the glasses, he dashes back to the sofa and grabs his phone, clearly in a cheerful mood.
This won’t do.
Li Pu purses his lips, his gaze settling on the young man, who is curled up and focused on his phone. The warm winter light shines in from the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a faint glow over him.
It looks like he is going to stay in that spot all day.
Li Pu takes a step forward, heading for the sofa. It isn’t that he minds being ignored—he is more concerned that staring at the phone for so long might strain the boy’s eyes.
At that moment, Bai Gaoxing is browsing a webpage when he suddenly feels the sofa dip beside him. Turning his head, he finds that Li Pu has somehow gotten very close and is quietly watching him.
“!?” Startled, Bai Gaoxing’s hand trembles, almost dropping the phone. “What’s wrong?”
Then he sees Li Pu pick up a folder from the coffee table and flip through it. “Nothing.”
The sight of his slender fingers pressing against the pages is surprisingly captivating, but Bai Gaoxing is puzzled. He stares at Li Pu for a moment, but when it seems the man is just reading a script, he turns his attention back to his phone.
Still, something feels off.
Bai Gaoxing’s fingers slide across the touch screen, but the words on it seem like gibberish. After a while, he realizes the problem, raising his head and feeling dizzy as he stares blankly for a moment.
He isn’t sure if it’s because someone is sitting next to him—but he clearly isn’t someone easily influenced. The familiar presence beside him feels oddly distracting. And besides, there’s no reason to feel sneaky or guilty about using his phone now!
Bai Gaoxing chalks it up to the aftereffects of a parrot suddenly learning to surf the internet. Still, he can’t shake the feeling that something is up with Li Pu. Suspicious, he asks, “Are you sure nothing’s wrong?”
Li Pu turns a page, his expression calm. “Isn’t this just like before?”
Before?
Bai Gaoxing thinks for a moment, blinking. Then it hits him—this is exactly how things used to be. Li Pu would quietly read scripts while he, as a parrot, would sit beside him for company.
Even though he has turned into a human now, it doesn’t seem all that different, does it?
Bai Gaoxing nods thoughtfully, leans against the warm body beside him, and returns his attention to his phone.
But no matter how hard he tries to focus, the nagging feeling persists.
Something is… different.
…
It isn’t until evening that realization strikes.
Later that night, Bai Gaoxing suddenly realizes: Wait a minute—wasn’t it always him who clung to Li Pu in the past? This time, though, hasn’t Li Pu come to him first?
When this thought occurs to him, Bai Gaoxing’s expression twists in disbelief. It sounds absurd, almost as if Li Pu taking the initiative is harder to believe than a parrot turning into a human.
But… maybe it isn’t impossible. He has probably just gotten used to it.
Bai Gaoxing thinks back to their shared routines. For a long time, they’ve been in a rhythm where Li Pu’s silence and solitude contrast with his own self-made entertainment.
Especially when he was still a parrot, time had seemed to stretch endlessly.
Could it be… that Li Pu misses the parrot?
Bai Gaoxing curiously glances at the man, now sitting with a script after dinner. He can’t help but wonder—does Li Pu prefer the parrot or the human version of him?
Perhaps his gaze is too intense because Li Pu eventually notices. Looking up, he asks, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m thinking about whether I should buy you another parrot,” Bai Gaoxing says, voicing his thoughts without hesitation.
Li Pu pauses before asking, “Why would you think that?”
“Well, you originally wanted to raise a parrot, right?” Bai Gaoxing reasons. “But you don’t have one now, so I feel like I should make it up to you.”
The more he thinks about it, the more logical it seems. Since becoming human, Li Pu has lost the simple joy of raising a pet. Even though Bai Gaoxing can still transform back into a parrot, it wouldn’t be the same as just having a pet bird to enjoy.
Bai Gaoxing’s eyes light up as he asks eagerly, “What do you think? Do you want one?”
He has already started considering which kind to buy. Of course, it can’t be another Wutong parrot—there can only be one Wutong parrot in Li Pu’s life!
Li Pu’s deep voice sounds, “No need,” he says. “Having you is enough.”
“…Huh?”
Bai Gaoxing freezes.
Then— Ahhhhhhh?!
His face flushes a deep red.
The main culprit is the tone of Li Pu’s voice—soft, warm, and surprisingly sweet. Bai Gaoxing, who has never heard such words directed at him before, feels his cheeks and ears heat up as if they’re on fire. Unable to process it, he buries his face into the nearest pillow.
How can Li Pu say something so easily misunderstood?!
No, no—it has to be a script line.
Bai Gaoxing quickly adjusts his mindset. He hasn’t forgotten that the man in front of him is a seasoned actor, having recited countless lines for scripts. He speculates that when Li Pu says “enough,” he probably means “had enough,” considering parrots make a lot of noise, cause a mess, shed feathers, and scatter food.
…Though he doesn’t actually have those traits.
Still!
But!
But he can’t think of anything to say. Flustered, Bai Gaoxing grabs the remote control and turns on the TV in a desperate attempt to distract himself. “Let’s watch Cute Pet Diary! The latest episode is airing tonight.”
Li Pu nods. “Okay.”
Li Pu closes the script and sits down next to him.
This time, Bai Gaoxing doesn’t dare to move. Sitting together like this feels warm—perfect for a winter evening. He switches to the channel playing Cute Pet Diary, just in time for the episode to start.
Before long, Bai Gaoxing is fully immersed in the show, completely forgetting his earlier embarrassment.
Meanwhile, fans online are eagerly watching the show, posting their thoughts about the latest episode.
In this episode, the guests bring their adorable pets to set up little booths, earning points to cover the cost of their lunch to enrich their picnic ingredients.
As soon as the show starts, viewers begin commenting.
【It’s so early—everyone looks half-asleep!】
【Haha, is Susu so tired that she’s bumping into walls?】
【Liu Liang looks the same, poor thing, so sleepy.】
【Dabai looks energetic though! Did he sleep on Teacher Li’s phone all night? Does he like sleeping on hard beds?】
Bai Gaoxing doesn’t expect the production team to include a shot of him glued to the phone. The way it’s edited makes him look especially… particularly silly.
Watching himself flutter his wings and land on Li Pu’s shoulder, Bai Gaoxing silently covers his face with both hands.
While the episode primarily focuses on individual perspectives, the editing cleverly weaves together shots of all four participants after they split up.
【Ugh, Teacher Li goes off to the square alone. Something seems off.】
【Did he get left behind? The other three are together, it seems easier for them.】
【I’m dying, Teacher Li’s phone runs out of battery! Dabai is the culprit!】
【Ugh, I’m so jealous of those people! They actually get Teacher Li’s autograph! If I’d known, I would’ve tried my luck too!】
【Let’s see… Liu Liang is selling vegetables, Wang Hong is selling small trinkets, and Brother Jun is selling watermelons!?】
【Wait, what is Teacher Li even doing?! Ring toss? Really?】
【….】
【Hahahahaha, I can’t stop laughing! That old grandpa asks Liu Liang how much Susu is per kilogram, haha! Poor Liu Liang!】
【Help, Pingke looks so handsome as a model with the bracelet! Did it really compliment the beautiful lady?】
【I’m shocked, Doug can actually smell if the watermelon is ripe or not! Does he guarantee it’s ripe and sweet?】
【I think so… My dog can pick durians for me (laughs).】
As the three guests work hard selling things, the scene switches to Li Pu.
Bai Gaoxing laughs so hard that he almost falls over, ending up against Li Pu. The sheer hilarity of other people’s perspectives has him clutching his stomach in mirth. “This is way more fun than ring toss!”
Li Pu looks at the boy laughing to the point of clutching his stomach, shaking his head with a helpless smile.
When the show reaches the part where the parrot, Dabai, calls out to customers, the viewership of Cute Pet Diaries starts to soar, and the number of online viewers grows exponentially.
【Shit, I was wrong. I thought Teacher Li was relying on his personal charm to make a profit, but it turns out it’s Dabai who’s making the owner famous!??】
【Teacher Li looks so handsome while picking up rings. Hilarious.jpg】
【This group’s vibe is totally different from the others!】
【Dabai is unbelievably smart!!! What a genius!!!】
On screen, the snowy-white parrot perches arrogantly on a high shelf, its sharp eyes scanning the crowd as if looking down on the world. Its provocations—”Come on, come on~”—make viewers squeal with delight at its cuteness.
Watching himself on screen, Bai Gaoxing is mortified. His over-the-top antics as the ultimate social butterfly make him cringe, and he covers his face, unable to watch further.
Li Pu sighs as he observes the scene. The show does a great job highlighting Dabai’s extraordinary intelligence through subtle details.
By the time the episode finishes, Cute Pet Diaries has two trending topics soaring to the top.
Riding the wave of popularity, Wang Hong and Zhang Junjun go live to interact with fans. Even Liu Liang, who has been busy with new projects and hasn’t appeared in ages, joins in with a live broadcast of his own.
Fans of Cute Pet Diaries are all hyped up, shouting for Teacher Li to join in for a dream collaboration in all three live streams!
Bai Gaoxing holds his phone, looking at the comments in the live stream, a little dazed.
“Do you want to do a live stream?” Li Pu asks after looking at him for a while.
“No…” Bai Gaoxing sincerely replies, wiping away tears from the hundred past embarrassing moments. “I’m not really in the mood for it, not in the short term.” He also reminds, “We have more important things to focus on.”
…
The more important thing is the audition.
Auditions require mastering lines.
The character that Li Pu is auditioning for speaks English most of the time, but since the character is of French descent, there are key personal lines in French.
As Bai Gaoxing flips through the script, he exclaims in surprise, “So you’re auditioning for the second male lead!”
Following the principle that the male lead centers on the heroine while the second male lead captivates everyone else, this role is both richer in complexity and more compelling than the lead’s.
The film itself revolves around a dramatic story set in a Las Vegas casino. Though it depicts a gritty and imperfect world, it carries themes of redemption, culminating in a heartwarming happy ending.
What exactly the plot is doesn’t matter for now; the most important thing is to make sure to teach all of the second male lead’s lines.
“Well, let’s get started!” Bai Gaoxing says, rubbing his hands together, eager to begin.
Over the next several days, they rarely leave the house except for essential errands. The intense study sessions go smoothly, with Bai Gaoxing listing out pronunciation tips and areas for improvement. He is impressed by Li Pu’s ability to quickly absorb and refine his performance. By the end, their one-on-one coaching is complete.
“I think you’ve got the conversational parts down perfectly,” Bai Gaoxing says confidently as they head to the airport for the overseas audition.
“Then I’ll count on you both once we get there,” Mei Youshu chimes in from the driver’s seat. Having recently returned from annual leave, he chats with them as he drives. Though fluent in English and Japanese, he admits his limitations with other languages.
Soon, they arrive at the bustling Jiangcheng Airport.
Lei Li is already waiting for them.
As always, the airport is crowded. Jiangcheng, being a major transit hub, often hosts celebrities traveling for events. Fans holding signs and bouquets are everywhere.
Feeling slightly nervous, Lei Li mutters, “Let’s head this way and hope no one recognizes us.”
In the past, they’ve always been spotted, but this time they have an unexpected advantage—Bai Gaoxing.
Lei Li has even tied her long hair into a sleek bun and hidden it under a hat.
The group moves smoothly through the airport. Bai Gaoxing looks around, his excitement evident. Though he’s flown before, this is his first time boarding as a human rather than tucked inside a bird carrier. Being able to sit next to Li Pu instead of in a bag feels like a whole new experience.
But of course, their luck doesn’t last.
As they approach the boarding gate, Lei Li notices flashes from a camera in the distance. Turning her head, she sees someone holding up their phone to snap pictures.
When they see her looking, the person excitedly waves.
Fans must have recognized Li Pu. Remaining calm, Lei Li quickens her pace and ushers the group onto the plane.
Once seated, she turns off her phone, bracing for the long flight ahead.
However, just as the plane takes off, Weibo explodes with a trending hashtag:
