Chapter 2 – Blessing of the Elven King

“By the Light God, you truly are a fortunate little fairy!”

Sayah cupped her face in her hands, gazing enviously at the tiny creature nestled in the flower bed. A faint golden glow emanated from its forehead—the Blessing of the Elven King.

Every ten years, a new generation of adorable little fairies is born in the Faerie Forest.

These darlings of nature gestate within flower buds, absorbing the essence of heaven and earth to coalesce their souls. When the buds bloom, the fully developed fairies gradually awaken.

Like elves, fairies are children of the Light God, sharing a deep bond of kinship, mutual affection, and mutual aid.

Sayah had welcomed three batches of fairy cubs in the nursery, but she had never witnessed a cub fortunate enough to receive the Elven King’s blessing.

Today was the fairies’ birth day, and the Elven King happened to be visiting the Faerie Forest on inspection. He joined Sayah in welcoming the new lives.

This last fairy cub to awaken appeared rather clumsy and dim-witted, yet its luck defied all reason.

Having received the Elven King’s blessing, it would not only gain a unique name but also enjoy the Elven King’s personal protection.

“Sperien,” the Golden-Haired Elf King murmured, his fingertip lightly tapping the air. Starlight shimmered, coalescing into a tiny floral crown that settled upon the Little Fairy’s head.

The Little Fairy, noticing the crown, curiously patted it with his chubby hand.

“Sperien! Oh, what a wonderful name!” Sayah exclaimed.

After bestowing the name, the Elven King gave Sayah a few instructions and departed the Nursery.

Sayah bowed gracefully, seeing him off until his figure vanished. Then she clapped her hands and called out to the Fairy Cubs hidden among the flowers, “Little darlings, come out! It’s mealtime!”

At her clear, magically infused call, tiny creatures radiating a faint green glow emerged from every corner of the Nursery.

These thumb-sized beings, naked and smooth-skinned, each possessed a pair of delicate wings that scattered stardust with every gentle flutter.

The Nursery was an immense garden, brimming with rare and exotic plants—many extinct in the human world. Here, spring reigned eternal, with flowers blooming in profusion. Sunlight streamed through the transparent skylight in golden shafts, like the strings of a celestial harp, while the sweet fragrance of blossoms permeated the air, intoxicating the senses.

On a long table crafted from woven vines, a row of small silver bowls sat neatly arranged. The Red-haired Elf held a beautifully shaped long-spouted pitcher, carefully pouring Flower Nectar into each bowl.

A single drop filled each bowl, the golden liquid emitting a sweet, cloying aroma that drew the newly born Little Fairies.

Having explored the Nursery, the Fairy Cubs’ stomachs were already rumbling with hunger. The moment they caught the scent of the sweet Flower Nectar, they scrambled toward the vine table.

“Aiya, don’t rush! There’s enough for everyone,” Sayah called out gently, swiftly separating two cubs vying for the same silver bowl.

The cubs, their wings gently restrained, remained obediently still, blinking their pure, watery eyes.

With gentle movements, Sayah placed them before their respective bowls. The little ones twitched their noses and buried their faces in the nectar, drinking with gusto.

Watching the Fairy Cubs drink so contentedly, Sayah’s heart melted with tenderness.

“Hmm? Why is there an extra bowl?”

The leftmost silver bowl remained untouched, its Flower Nectar undisturbed. Sayah counted the cubs and realized one was missing.

At that moment, Shu Li lay sprawled beside the Flower Bed, gazing longingly at the distant vine table.

Ever since the Golden-Haired Elf had touched his forehead, strange symbols had appeared in his mind—a series of bizarre glyphs. Before he could decipher their meaning, the elf spoke a few words in a voice like celestial music, then turned and departed.

Shu Li felt a pang of reluctance, instinctively leaning over the edge of the Flower Bed to watch him disappear into the distance.

Suddenly, he heard the Red-Haired Elf call out, and countless winged sprites emerged from the flower thicket.

These tiny beings were completely naked, their hair a riot of colors, each sporting a pair of wings in various forms: some resembled butterfly wings, others dragonfly wings, cicada wings, or even shimmering veils, all radiating a starlight-like glow—utterly enchanting.

Yet, no matter how beautiful they were, they wore no clothes.

Shu Li touched his own bare chest and promptly draped the Flower Petal blanket over his shoulders, wrapping it around his body.

As a newly eighteen-year-old adult, he possessed a strong sense of modesty. Even in a dream, even shrunk to this tiny size, he would never allow himself to run around naked.

He couldn’t understand what the Red-haired Elf was saying, but judging by the Fairy Cubs’ eagerness, he guessed it was mealtime.

A sweet, fragrant aroma filled his nostrils, making his stomach rumble loudly.

Shu Li swallowed hard, his eyes fixed longingly on the vine-covered table. He hesitated, wondering if he should fly over.

That’s right, fly!

Shu Li loosened the Flower Petal draped over his shoulders and reached behind him, his hand brushing against something soft.

So ticklish!

He quickly withdrew his hand.

He actually had a pair of wings!

How marvelous!

Overcome with curiosity, Shu Li wrapped the Flower Petal around his waist and focused on controlling the wings on his back. He strained forward, revealing four translucent, gauze-like wings. Their surfaces seemed coated with a protective film, shimmering with a faint golden light.

What an intriguing dream.

I wonder how much I’ll remember when I wake up.

Shu Li gently stroked the wings, a tingling, numbing sensation instantly flooding his brain.

The senses in this dream felt so real, so vivid, that he almost believed he had transmigrated to another world.

But he wasn’t some chosen one. How could something as fantastical as transmigration possibly happen to him?

Sayah noticed one of the fairy cubs was missing. After a quick search, she soon spotted the little fairy blessed by the King, sitting in the Flower Bed, playing with its wings.

She pressed a hand to her forehead and leaned closer, asking, “Sperien, aren’t you hungry?”

The fairy cub reacted a beat late, tilting its head to stare blankly at her, its green eyes filled with confusion.

Sayah sighed and gently scooped up the little one, carrying it to the vine table and placing it before a small silver bowl. “This is freshly gathered Flower Nectar from this morning. It’s delicious.”

Shu Li, suddenly moved to a new location, felt disoriented. He clutched the Flower Petal tightly, determined not to expose himself.

The sweet, cloying scent made him swallow hard as he glanced down at the golden liquid in the silver bowl.

Looks good.

Shu Li reached for the bowl, but the Flower Petal wrapped around his waist slipped down. He quickly tugged it back up.

Whew, close call! Almost mooned them!

Sayah had been keeping a close eye on the cub the Elven King had named Sperien. When she noticed the Flower Petal around its waist, she blinked in surprise.

Hmm, do newborn cubs get shy too?

The sight of the little one wanting to drink the Flower Nectar but struggling to stay covered was utterly adorable.

Sayah gently coaxed, “Fill your tummy first. Aisha will bring you clothes later.”

Aisha was an adult Fairy responsible for the daily care of the cubs.

Of course, Shu Li couldn’t understand her words. Tilting his little head, he politely asked, “Hello, do you have a spoon?”

With a spoon, he could hold a Flower Petal in one hand and use the spoon to drink the Flower Nectar with the other.

His perfect, clear Chinese sounded to Sayah’s ears like the chirping of a tiny insect.

She smiled, unable to resist gently tapping the little fellow’s head with her fingertip. “Be a good boy and don’t be picky!”

Shu Li persisted, “Spoon, do you have a spoon?”

He freed one hand and gestured to illustrate the shape of a spoon.

Sayah shook her head and sighed. “Little Sperien, if you don’t drink your Flower Nectar, another cub will snatch it!”

“But I just want a spoon!” Shu Li frowned in frustration.

The two were speaking at cross-purposes, neither understanding the other’s words, locked in a wide-eyed staring contest.

A Red-Haired Fairy Cub finished the Flower Nectar in his silver bowl, patted his little belly, and looked around for more. Spotting another silver bowl nearby, brimming with Flower Nectar, he flapped his wings excitedly and darted over, burying his face in the bowl to gulp it down.

Shu Li froze, watching helplessly as a Red-Haired Fairy Cub stole his Flower Nectar right before his eyes.

As the Shu Family’s most doted-upon youngest son, Shu Li had always gotten everything he wanted. No one dared to take what was his.

Now, in his own dream, having his food stolen right in front of him left him utterly stunned.

The red-haired cub guzzled down the Flower Nectar, burped contentedly, and grinned at Shu Li.

This was blatant provocation!

Shu Li trembled with anger.

His body had shrunk, and his tear ducts had become more sensitive. Overwhelmed by a surge of injustice, he lost control of his emotions and burst into tears. Tears streamed down his face like pearls, rolling down his cheeks in torrents.

Sayah was startled, momentarily at a loss for words. “Oh dear, oh dear! Little Sperien, don’t cry… there’s plenty more Flower Nectar!”

Shu Li couldn’t understand her words and continued to wail uncontrollably, gasping for breath between sobs.

He didn’t know what was happening to him; his emotions were completely out of control, and tears streamed down his face.

Ahhh—how embarrassing!

Thank goodness this was just a dream, not reality. If his brothers ever found out, they’d tease him relentlessly.

The Red-Haired Fairy Cub was startled by his loud wails. Its pointed ears drooped, its mouth opened wide, and it began to cry loudly as well.

Through tear-blurred eyes, Shu Li stared in speechless exasperation.

He hadn’t been crying for long when the cub who had snatched his food began wailing even louder.

But the worst was yet to come. The crying proved contagious, triggering a chain reaction among the other Fairy Cubs, who all joined in the cacophony.

Sayah felt her head spinning, frantically trying to soothe one cub after another, but with little success.

Just as she was at her wit’s end, a gentle voice rang out, “Oh, Light God above, what’s happening? Why are all the cubs crying?”

Sayah looked up at the palm-sized, silver-haired Fairy hovering in the air, her eyes burning with relief as if she had found a savior. “Dear Aisha, you’ve come at the perfect time! Please help!”

Sayah was the Elf responsible for nurturing the cubs in their flower buds, singing them songs and poems while infusing them with magical energy. Once the Little Fairies awakened, Aisha and the adult Fairies took over their education.

True to her role as a Fairy godmother, Aisha calmly flew to the vine-covered table, opened the box she carried, and released garments woven from natural silkworm silk. One by one, the clothes floated gracefully toward each Fairy Cub.

Distracted by the beautiful garments, the Fairy Cubs gradually forgot their tears.

Shu Li stared at the clothes drifting toward him, his tears abruptly ceasing.

Wow!

Clothes!

Finally, he wouldn’t have to run around naked anymore!

Forgetting his bare bottom, Shu Li quickly released the Flower Petal and grabbed the garment. The fabric was delicate and silky smooth, as thin as gauze and incredibly comfortable to the touch.

No wonder it’s my dream, he thought, it’s full of exquisite details.

Shu Li examined the garment from all angles, trying to figure out how to put it on. But as if by magic, the fabric slipped from his grasp and began to drape itself over his body.

The designer had thoughtfully accounted for the Little Fairy’s wings. Several straps deftly looped around the wing roots, securing with a graceful bow.

Shu Li curiously touched the garment. It was a pleated robe in the style of ancient Greece, cinched at the waist with a golden cord. Slits on both thighs allowed the skirt to drape naturally to mid-calf.

Light, flowing, and form-fitting, the robe felt as smooth as water against his skin. It was incredibly comfortable to wear.

The only drawback was the lack of underwear.

Any wide leg movements risked exposing his bare bottom.

Still, having a garment to cover his front and back was a vast improvement over being completely naked.

Shu Li tried his best to ignore the minor imperfection.

After all, once he woke from this dream, everything would vanish like fleeting clouds.

Now that he had clothes, it was time to fill his belly. He held up his empty silver bowl and tilted his head to ask Sayah for more food.

“Miss, where’s my Flower Nectar?”

Sayah, seeing the cubs completely absorbed in the joy of wearing clothes, secretly wiped away a bead of cold sweat. Hearing the familiar “chirp,” she glanced down and saw the Little Fairy blessed by the King, tears glistening in the corner of his eye, holding out his empty silver bowl and gazing at her with a pitiful expression.

Give it to him! Give him everything!

Sayah’s heart screamed with overwhelming cuteness. She grabbed the Flower Nectar jar and poured a single drop into the cub’s silver bowl.

Shu Li beamed at the Red-haired Elf and began to drink politely.

Mmm, so sweet, fragrant, and smooth! No wonder that Red-Haired Fairy Cub wanted more and even tried to steal mine.

He finished the bowl in one gulp, let out a satisfied burp, and savored the lingering taste.
