- Chapter 97 - Crazy Old Lady
“My wife Qi Dan, is 1.65 meters tall. On February 4th, she went missing. That day, she was wearing a red long down jacket and a pair of leather boots…”
Chen Shu remembered the description of Qi Dan on the missing person notice. His scalp tingled, and the hairs on his body stood on end. Because through the crack in the wardrobe door, he clearly saw that as the figure slowly walked in and revealed half of its body, she was wearing exactly the same clothes as Qi Dan.
“What’s going on? Could it be that Qi Dan didn’t die? No, she definitely died!” Chen Shu had no doubts about his own judgment. So, the woman in the red down jacket before him could absolutely not be Qi Dan.
The figure walked deeper into the room, and through the narrow view from the crack in the door, Chen Shu saw more details.
From the height, according to the missing person notice, Qi Dan was 1.65 meters tall. But the woman before him was clearly much shorter. The long down jacket she wore nearly dragged on the ground.
She appeared short and bloated.
“Dan Dan.” Suddenly, a hoarse murmur came from the woman in red. In the quiet and closed environment, it was especially eerie. “Mom misses you.”
Then, like someone sleepwalking, the woman staggered as she walked, her hands straight up, moving around the bedroom. When she turned to the side, Chen Shu really saw clearly.
Damn it! Yes, it was Tang Bin’s mother. That old, deeply wrinkled, bark-like face, under the red down jacket, became especially clear.
Wait. Suddenly, Chen Shu thought of something. Why was the outfit Qi Dan wore on the day she went missing now on this woman? Had Tang Bin’s mother bought a new one to remember her daughter-in-law after Qi Dan went missing?
Or perhaps Qi Dan had two identical outfits?
No! Chen Shu rejected both guesses. Who buys clothes to remember a deceased person? Moreover, women don’t buy two identical outfits like that.
So, the red down jacket and leather boots she wore were definitely the ones Qi Dan had on when she went missing.
“Qi Dan is dead… this is an undeniable fact. Then, since the clothes are here, it means… Tang Bin and his mother actually… actually know where Qi Dan’s body is!”
“The missing person notice and the police report were just their way of covering up!”
Chen Shu made a preliminary judgment. So, who killed Qi Dan? Tang Bin! The only person Chen Shu could think of was him.
This thought had crossed Chen Shu’s mind when Wang Zheng was eating stinky tofu. Because among the stench of the tofu at the stall, he had sensed a smell different from the food, noticing strands of hair mixed in with the tofu that Wang Zheng was eating bite by bite.
The reason he didn’t warn Wang Zheng was because Chen Shu hadn’t made up his mind. That’s why he came here tonight to verify his suspicions. Now, knowing that the body was hidden in the house, the guess in Chen Shu’s mind was getting closer and closer.
Stinky tofu! The body!
Perhaps these two seemingly unrelated things would show an unexpected connection in Tang Bin’s hands, creating something disturbing.
But Chen Shu couldn’t understand one thing. If Tang Bin killed Qi Dan, it meant that a serious conflict must have arisen between them, and their marriage was not as harmonious as the neighbors claimed.
After all, every family has its own struggles, and what outsiders see may just be a façade. So, after killing Qi Dan, why would he leave her clothes behind? Wouldn’t it be easier to just burn them? If the police found them, wouldn’t that expose everything?
And why did the old lady come out in the middle of the night wearing this outfit? Just because she had mental problems? There was something fishy!
This mother and son were definitely up to something!
