- Chapter 96 - Red Down Jacket
Thud. After about forty seconds, Chen Shu’s agile figure lightly landed on the ground. He pushed open the balcony’s glass door and walked inside. What greeted his eyes was a hall furnished with a sofa, a coffee table, and a 42-inch LCD TV.
Chen Shu moved slowly and exited the hall, ahead was a long corridor. At the end of the corridor was a staircase leading down.
On both sides, there were rooms. Chen Shu walked toward the center of the two rooms, looked around, and then closed his eyes. Soon, he sensed a faint sound of steady breathing from the room on the right.
So, the right room was where Tang Bin’s mother slept, the left side was the master bedroom. That’s where Tang Bin and his wife slept.
Chen Shu turned the doorknob. A slight creaking sound echoed in the still, quiet environment. As the door slowly opened, Chen Shu walked inside.
“Captain Wang said that after checking all the city’s surveillance, there was no trace of Qi Dan’s last appearance. As a criminal, where would they hide a body?” Chen Shu thought to himself.
If it were him, he would hide it in a place that seemed dangerous but was actually the safest. This was his usual style, of course, Chen Shu didn’t know who killed Qi Dan. But he was certain of one thing, Qi Dan was really dead.
And it was a gruesome death. It was even more horrifying than when he dismantled the fake corpse of Liu Liang on the show, more unsettling and nauseating.
Chen Shu entered Tang Bin’s bedroom and casually closed the door. The bedroom was simple, a bed, two nightstands, some clutter by the wall, and a wooden wardrobe. Above the bed hung a wedding photo.
In the photo, Tang Bin and Qi Dan were dressed in wedding attire, holding hands and smiling happily.
Chen Shu’s nostrils flared as he sensed an unusual smell. He scanned every corner, from the inside out, leaving nothing unchecked.
Suddenly, just as Chen Shu was deep in thought, footsteps echoed from the corridor outside. Cautiously, Chen Shu opened the wardrobe and hid inside.
“Could it be Tang Bin coming back?”
“It shouldn’t be. From the market, it would take at least an hour to return, especially since he still needs to pick out ingredients, which would take even longer!”
Chen Shu shut the wardrobe door, he left a small crack.
Creeeek. The door slowly opened with a harsh, screeching sound, echoing loudly in the quiet bedroom.
In the faint light, Chen Shu saw a figure enter.
“Who is it?” Chen Shu held his breath, his brows furrowed. If someone opened the wardrobe and found him hiding inside, things could get complicated. Although he was here to search for Qi Dan’s body, his less-than-legal actions might lead to misunderstandings.
If the police were called, it would be a difficult situation.
Thud, thud. The footsteps interrupted Chen Shu’s thoughts. He peered through the crack in the wardrobe door to look outside. The figure slowly entered, moving as if weighted down by iron blocks on their feet, each step slow and heavy.
Finally, the figure appeared in Chen Shu’s line of sight.
Suddenly, Chen Shu’s breathing quickened. Despite having done dangerous things before, he couldn’t suppress the anxious pounding of his heart now.
It was a person wearing a red long down jacket.
And on their feet, they wore leather boots.
