- Chapter 94 - Smellier Than Before
“That’s true,” Su Xiaoxiao put down her chopsticks. She touched her face; these days, with all the filming, she hadn’t been taking care of her skin. If she ate something spicy now, and broke out in pimples, that would not be good!
Yes, she needed to control herself! No more eating!
“I’ll take you to eat something else later,” Chen Shu added.
Su Xiaoxiao smiled, her eyes curving with delight. “Hehe, that’s great.”
Then, Chen Shu poured both his and Su Xiaoxiao’s portions of stinky tofu into Wang Zheng’s plate.
“Eh?” Wang Zheng was startled. “Are you getting heat rash too?”
Chen Shu nodded. “Yeah, I’m feeling a bit heated right now.”
“Well, it seems like you two really don’t have the luck for this. This stinky tofu is really delicious,” Wang Zheng said without hesitation, popping piece after piece into his mouth, oil dripping down the corners of his lips.
He chewed with satisfaction, sighing, “Ah, it’s really delicious!”
Chen Shu quickly grabbed a napkin and handed it to him. “Captain Wang, take it easy. No one’s going to fight you for it.”
Wang Zheng wiped his mouth and said, “Last year, before Tang Bin’s wife went missing, I came here once to eat. But the taste back then wasn’t as good as it is now.”
Su Xiaoxiao said, “Maybe… her disappearance caused him a lot of pain, so he poured all his energy into work, trying to ease the longing for his wife.”
Wang Zheng nodded. “Yeah, that’s probably the case.”
Half an hour later, Wang Zheng was stuffed. He took out his phone and went to the stall to scan the QR code to pay.
Tang Bin hurriedly said, “Captain Wang, no need, no need! Let me treat you. You all work hard every day…”
“Don’t say that,” Wang Zheng interrupted him, waving his phone. “I’ve already paid. By the way, can you make two more portions? I’ll take them back for Haoran and Qin Min. They’re both craving your stinky tofu.”
Tang Bin nodded and grabbed a slotted spoon to scoop tofu from the bucket, but the bucket was empty, it was clear that he had sold out. “Captain Wang, we’re out,” Tang Bin said. “Are you in a hurry?”
“If you’re not, I can go back home and get some more, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer,” Tang Bin said.
Wang Zheng shook his head. “It’s fine, no rush. Go ahead.”
“Alright,” Tang Bin picked up the bucket and walked toward the two-story house behind the yard.
After he disappeared from view, Wang Zheng turned back to Chen Shu and said, “Three months ago, when I came here to investigate, the neighbors said Tang Bin and his wife had a very loving relationship, no issues between them, and they hadn’t gotten into any trouble with the wrong people. So her disappearance has become a mystery.”
“Chen Shu, the next episode is still a while away. If you’re bored and have nothing to do, maybe you can help out. You live in the West Suburbs, so it’s not far from here.”
Chen Shu thought for a moment and said, “Alright.”
As night fell, the streetlights grew brighter and more glaring. They illuminated the stall, making everything look unnaturally white. While waiting for Tang Bin to return with more tofu, Chen Shu, feeling bored, walked towards the back of the stall, toward Tang Bin’s yard.
But just before entering, a large yellow dog suddenly darted out from the yard and started barking at Chen Shu non-stop.
This dog was very fierce. It stood in the doorway, blocking Chen Shu from stepping inside.
“Brother, come back! Be careful, it might bite you,” Su Xiaoxiao called out.
Chen Shu ignored her and slapped the dog on the head with a backhand. He then asked aloud, “Am I lucky this year?”
The dog bared its teeth, barking, “Woof! Woof! Woof!”
“Thanks,” Chen Shu said, turning around and walking away.
