- Chapter 83 - What Was Meant to Come Has Come
Early May, the weather was warming up, but at this moment, even though Liang Wei was curled up under his blanket, hugging his knees, he still felt cold to the bone, the chill seeping in.
His eyes were fixed on his phone screen. After a long time, he finally squeezed out three words, “What the hell?”
They had found traces of a corpse in the flush tank of the police station’s restroom. He couldn’t wrap his head around it.
“Chen Shu wrapped the corpse around himself and brought it into the police station?”
“Don’t they search suspects before interrogating them?”
“I need to report this. Chen Shu definitely has an inside man at the police station!”
Of course, this raised a lot of questions. Netizens were also buzzing with discussion.
“Why wasn’t the corpse found on Chen Shu when he first entered the police station? Does this even make sense? Or did they deliberately skip this step for the sake of the show?”
“They didn’t skip it. I watched the live broadcast that day, they did search him.”
“Still, how did they miss it?”
“Actually, after disposing of the bones, Chen Shu attached pieces of the corpse’s flesh onto his own skin. Just by touch alone, it wouldn’t be easy to notice. Since Chen Shu is quite thin, if he placed the corpse’s abdomen over his own, it wouldn’t feel too different to the touch.”
“Right, by the time Liu Liang died, his body hadn’t stiffened yet. It probably felt just like normal flesh.”
“The real issue is that no one ever imagined he would literally wrap the corpse around himself.”
Soon, the term ‘Corpse Wrapped in Flesh’ shot to the top of the trending list.
Meanwhile, Qin Min’s restroom analysis was clipped and shared across various platforms, garnering an insane amount of views and shares.
Finally, the viewers, who had been clueless and wondering where the body had gone, finally understood.
“New here, wasn’t the whole show live-streamed? How did you guys not see Chen Shu do it?”
“Usually, the show only has one livestream channel. Back then, the director thought Chen Shu wasn’t providing good content, so they cut to the investigation team instead. That’s why we didn’t see him carry out the ‘Corpse Wrapped in Flesh’ trick.”
“Give the director a penalty!”
“No wonder this episode has multiple live streams. Ha, the director wants to keep an eye on him at all times now!”
At this moment, in the ‘Inescapable Justice’ meeting room, Zhang Sheng’s gaze was fixed on the big screen in front of him. As soon as the investigative trio found traces of the corpse in the restroom, all the staff members shot up from their seats in shock.
Everyone was chilled to the bone! The screeching sound of chairs sliding echoed sharply in the otherwise silent room.
“He kept calling others perverts, but in the end, he turned out to be the biggest one!” Zhang Sheng sucked in a breath of cold air. Then, he exhaled deeply.
Planner Liu Hui exclaimed excitedly, “Director Zhang, we have a breakthrough! We don’t have to rack our brains anymore. After transferring the corpse, Chen Shu never went anywhere, he’s been at home this whole time. So, if the investigation team finds the corpse in his house, we can arrest him on the spot.”
“Exactly!”
The remaining staff nodded in agreement, the tension in the room finally eased. Zhang Sheng, for the first time in a while, smiled. He felt that creating individual live stream channels for this episode was the right call.
Now, every move Chen Shu made was right under the audience’s watchful eyes. Unlike last time, when a camera switch allowed him to complete the ‘Corpse Wrapped in Flesh’ trick unnoticed.
This time, after leaving the police station, the police had personally driven him and his sister home. He hadn’t gone anywhere else, for the past two days, he had stayed home.
So now, it was obvious where the corpse had been moved to. It was in his house!
Chen Shu thought he had cleared all suspicion. He assumed the police wouldn’t come knocking again. At this moment, to him, home was the safest place.
“Chen Shu, Chen Shu… you never expected that just one tiny mistake, the tampering marks on the flush tank, would let the investigation team figure everything out. All your efforts… wasted!”
“We’ve seen through your every move!” Zhang Sheng slammed his fist on the table, causing the items on it to jump. After being played for two whole episodes, he finally felt vindicated.
“Director Zhang, we’re finally going to see Chen Shu get caught. I can’t wait! I’ve already prepared the closing speech,” Zhang Bingbing said excitedly, twirling her pen.
“Hey,” Zhang Sheng snapped back to reality, waving his hand at everyone. “Stay calm. No celebrating early. No popping champagne halfway through! Hahaha!”
After saying that, he straightened his back and gave his orders, “Broadcast team, shut down all secondary livestream channels and focus the main livestream on Chen Shu and the investigation team.”
“Got it!”
The broadcasting team immediately carried out the command. A moment later, the big screen displayed two live feeds. On the left, the trio was in a police car, speeding down the highway.
On the right, a bird’s-eye view captured the entire 109 West Suburb building in dynamic detail.
Inside the police car, Qin Min was driving, Su Haoran sat in the passenger seat, and Wang Zheng leaned against the backseat, watching the scenery pass by.
The early May sun was bright, spring was in the air, golden sunlight dappled across his face.
“Qin Min, roll down the window, let in some fresh air,” he said.
As the window lowered, a warm spring breeze rushed in, carrying away the stifling tension.
At 109 West Suburb, Chen Shu stepped out of the bathroom, throwing on a coat.
“Brother, any laundry you need washed?” Su Xiaoxiao asked playfully, walking up to him.
Chen Shu shook his head. “No, I’ll do it myself. You do your thing.”
“It’s a long holiday, I’ve got nothing to do,” she said, looping her arm through his.
“If you’re that free, go clean up the yard. It’s been a while,” Chen Shu said, ruffling her hair with a smile. But suddenly, his expression darkened.
He heard something faint, police sirens wailing down the road from the outskirts. The sound grew louder, getting closer.
“They’re here,” Chen Shu said gravely.
“They’re here? Who’s here?” Su Xiaoxiao was clueless. She waved her hands in front of Chen Shu’s face and joked, “Is it a flying dagger?”
A sharp screech of brakes echoed. Su Xiaoxiao flinched and turned her head. Outside, several police cars had pulled up along the road, their flashing lights pulsating like a rhythmic heartbeat.
