- Chapter 82 - Hahaha, Sheep!
The officer’s words instantly ignited what was once a calm livestream.
“So everything Chen Shu said was true! He actually hid the body in the police station restroom!”
“He said he never lied to Su Xiaoxiao from the beginning, and it turns out he really didn’t. My God, I thought he was joking.”
“No wonder we couldn’t find it no matter how hard we looked. Who would have thought of this?”
“Wait, but Liu Liang was a grown man. How did Chen Shu even bring him in? That doesn’t make any sense!”
“So on the day Su Xiaoxiao was interrogated, he came to the station not just to clear her name but also to retrieve the last piece of evidence!”
“No, no, no, what if he was only there to retrieve the evidence? Helping Su Xiaoxiao could’ve just been his way of manipulating her.”
“I think he genuinely wanted to clear her name. Don’t forget, he said he never lied to Su Xiaoxiao!”
“Ugh, my brain hurts. Chen Shu’s words feel contradictory, but… forget it. Let’s wait for the investigation team to uncover the truth step by step.”
Back at the Criminal Investigation Office, Wang Zheng and his team froze upon hearing the news. The restroom at the police station, all the flush covers had been pried open? Why? Who would go out of their way to pry those open?
“Qin… Qin Min, you… you need to repeat what you just said,” Su Haoran swallowed and spoke.
Qin Min replied, “I said, Chen Shu is innocent. He rushed to the station to clear Su Xiaoxiao’s name.”
“That doesn’t add up,” Wang Zheng said. “If, as you all suggested earlier, Chen Shu used the diary to eliminate everyone, then why did he come here without knowing whether Su Xiaoxiao would take the blame for him? Clearing her name was just a cover, he was actually here to…”
Mid-sentence, Wang Zheng dashed toward the restroom. Inside the men’s restroom, aside from three urinals lined up, there were also three toilet stalls on each side, separated by partitions with doors.
Wang Zheng flung each door open, the scene inside came into view.
“Captain Wang,” Qin Min stepped into the first stall, running a hand along the edges of the pried-open flush cover. “There’s barely any dust. This was done within the past week.”
Then, Qin Min lifted the cover, he bent down and took a deep breath. Instantly, his brows furrowed, he recoiled. “The stench… it’s not just the usual restroom smell. It’s the smell of rotting flesh!”
“Rotting flesh… haha… rotting flesh…” Wang Zheng’s face twisted in horror. He shook his head, half-laughing, half-crying. “No wonder… no wonder we could never find it. He hid Liu Liang’s body right under our noses, in a place we walk past every day, in a place we could have reached out and touched, the flush tank!”
Su Haoran was in disbelief. “The time Chen Shu hid the body must have been when we first brought him to the station. But how? How did he manage to bring Liu Liang’s corpse in right under our noses?”
Qin Min stroked his chin. “Liu Liang was just a high school student. I’ve seen his photos, he was thin and not very tall. If Chen Shu drained the blood and dismembered the body, then wrapped the pieces around himself, it wouldn’t have been easy to notice unless we searched thoroughly.”
“Plus, it was early April when he first came to the station. Haicheng was still cold. He was bundled up in thick clothing but in reality, it wasn’t just thick clothing. His coat and loose pants were covering the body parts wrapped around him.”
Hearing this, Su Haoran interrupted, “That doesn’t make sense. Even if Liu Liang was small, what about his skeleton? There are so many bones, how could Chen Shu carry them all? If it was just the flesh, I could believe it. But the rib cage? And his skull? How could he carry a whole head on him?”
That question made Qin Min fall silent.
“Good point, Su Haoran. The flesh, sure, but the bones? There’s no way he could’ve hidden all those bones under his clothes!”
“And the skull! That thing’s huge! How could he possibly carry that on him?”
“I got it! Chen Shu made bone broth and drank it!”
“Pfft, why stop there? Maybe he ate the whole thing!”
While everyone was lost in thought, Qin Min suddenly chuckled. A self-deprecating laugh.
“What are you laughing at now?” Su Haoran asked.
“I’m laughing at how stupid I was,” Qin Min sighed before continuing, “Yes, bones are difficult to dispose of. But don’t forget, we’ve seen two sets of sheep bones before!”
Su Haoran stiffened. “Wait… are you saying… those weren’t sheep bones?”
“No,” Qin Min shook his head. “They were sheep bones.”
“But inside each set of sheep bones… Liu Liang’s bones were mixed in.”
Qin Min closed his eyes, recalling the appearance of the two sheep skeletons. The first set had been dug up in Chen Shu’s backyard. At the time, he’d seen it clearly, sheep bones. But how many bones does a sheep have? He didn’t know.
And within those bones… some had been chopped up. Small, white fragments, mixed in with the sheep bones. Not from a sheep. They weren’t from a sheep!
“Hahahaha,” Qin Min clutched his head, crouching down in anguish, laughing bitterly. “Sheep bones, human bones, chopped up and mixed together. At first glance, I only saw the full sheep skeleton. But inside those skeletons…”
Silence. The entire restroom fell deathly silent. Only Qin Min’s bitter laughter echoed occasionally.
“I’m done. I give up.”
“Can’t blame Qin Min, though. When the camera showed the bones, we all saw a complete sheep skeleton. Who would’ve thought…?”
“So most of the bones had already been dealt with. What Chen Shu smuggled into the station was mostly… flesh. Maybe a few bones, but overall, this method significantly reduced the weight and volume he had to carry.”
“Damn. Just… damn.”
“Liang Wei: Holy sh*t, my son had it even worse than me.”
A few minutes later, Qin Min took a deep breath, steadied himself, and stood up.
“Captain Wang, we can now confirm, Chen Shu didn’t come to help Su Xiaoxiao. We don’t know how he managed to pull off the diary trick, but we do know for sure, he was here to move the body. By early May, the weather had warmed up, and the corpse had started to rot. He knew he couldn’t hide it any longer.”
“Yeah,” Wang Zheng nodded numbly, rubbing his face. “We still can’t fully conclude the ‘Liang Wei murder case,’ but the ‘Liu Liang case,’ we’ve pieced it together.”
Suddenly, Wang Zheng clenched his jaw, his eyes burning. He roared, “It’s only been two days since the interrogation. Liu Liang’s body, he must have moved it back to the west suburbs! Search every inch of that place!”
“This time, we will take him down!”
“Chen Shu! I will make you confess…”
“Every. Last. Crime!”
