- Chapter 80 - A Solution
“What are you laughing at?” Su Xiaoxiao was puzzled. Every time her brother laughed, she felt like a clueless fool who didn’t understand anything. It was embarrassing.
“Brother, when I was kidnapped by Liang Wei last time, were you lying to me too? Did you really not take the body to the police station restroom?”
“Brother, just tell me. I can’t take it anymore. I really want to know where it is!”
Su Xiaoxiao’s big, watery eyes stared at him. Ever since she willingly took the blame for Chen Shu, their relationship had deepened. Like two deserted islands in the sea, now connected, watching over each other.
So now, she wasn’t reserved at all. She grabbed Chen Shu’s arm and pleaded, “You can just whisper it to me.”
“No way!”
“Su Xiaoxiao, be kind! We’ve been following this mystery for so long just to find out where the body is. And you want him to tell you in secret? Do you want us to send you a knife in the mail?”
“Hurry up and tell Su Xiaoxiao! I want to know too.”
“The body definitely isn’t in the police station restroom. Chen Shu only said that to fool Liang Wei into going to the police, so he’d get caught.”
“Ugh, this guy never tells the truth.”
Chen Shu removed Su Xiaoxiao’s hand from his arm. He said, “Xiaoxiao, you only need to remember one thing.”
Su Xiaoxiao asked, “What is it?”
“I never lied to you.” After speaking, Chen Shu stood up, adjusted his clothes, and added, “Alright, it’s getting late. You must be tired. Get some rest. I’m going to take a shower.”
“Oh, okay.” Su Xiaoxiao pouted and lay down on the sofa where Chen Shu had been sitting, planning to take a shower after him.
Suddenly, she sniffed the air. She caught a faint, unpleasant smell from where he had been sitting. “Ugh… Brother, how many days has it been since you last showered?”
“So gross! Ughhh!”
The next day, May 1st. Only eight days left until the show ends. At the City Bureau, Criminal Investigation Department, Wang Zheng woke up late. Compared to before, he only arrived at the department at 10:30 today.
He walked into the office and glanced around. Su Haoran and Qin Min were nowhere to be seen. “Heh, those two are slacking off just like me. They know the final interviews for the show are coming up, so they’re taking it easy at work.”
He placed his briefcase on the desk and went to pour himself a cup of hot water. Then he sat down, sipping tea idly. About five or six minutes later, Qin Min and Su Haoran finally strolled in lazily.
Qin Min yawned and asked, “Captain Wang, have you received the show’s wrap-up notice? We caught the real culprit, shouldn’t they give us an award?”
Wang Zheng looked up. “Not yet. Be patient. Maybe the staff are still busy. Wrapping up a show is complicated work.”
“It’s weird, though,” Su Haoran said, rubbing his neck. “This case wasn’t simple, but we solved it in just six days. Something feels… off.”
Qin Min leaned against Su Haoran’s chair and said, “Honestly, the reason this case wrapped up so quickly is thanks to Chen Shu. If it weren’t for him, they would’ve pinned the crime on Su Xiaoxiao for no reason.”
“Yeah,” Wang Zheng nodded. “That guy was right.”
Su Haoran checked his watch. “It’s almost eleven. What’s taking the production team so long? Just tell us it’s over already!”
Meanwhile, at the ‘Inescapable Justice’ production team, chaos was unfolding.
“Everyone, the head of the broadcasting bureau called our station director and scolded him. Then, the director called me and chewed me out. So today, I called you all here.”
“I’m not going to scold you. I’m cutting your salaries!”
In the meeting room, Zhang Sheng’s sharp gaze swept across the team.
“Alright, let’s brainstorm together. How do we capture Chen Shu? Liu Hui! You! Stop playing with your fingers and stand up!” Zhang Sheng pointed at planner Liu Hui.
“Um…” Liu Hui stood up, flustered, adjusting her glasses. “Before, you told me that this episode’s plot needed to follow up on the previous one, so the investigation team and the criminals would pressure Chen Shu into revealing where the body was. That way, we could arrest him. But now, you see how it turned out. Not only is Chen Shu still free, but the body’s whereabouts are still unknown. I really have no solution.”
Zhang Bingbing added, “Director, honestly, after the last episode ended, we should’ve made Chen Shu reveal the body’s location. Sure, it wouldn’t have drawn as much attention, but at least we would’ve given the audience a proper conclusion. Look at it now, it’s spiraling out of control, and he’s pulled off another perfect crime!”
Bang! Bang! Zhang Sheng slammed the table. “Damn it! Are you blaming me now?”
Liu Hui waved her hands. “No, no!”
Zhang Bingbing scratched her head. “Wouldn’t dare, wouldn’t dare.”
“Hmph,” Zhang Sheng huffed angrily and sat down. “Stop zoning out! Think of a solution, we only have eight days left! The investigation team is running in circles thanks to Chen Shu. If this keeps up, I can’t report back to my superiors!”
The room fell into a tense silence, everyone scratched their heads in frustration. Honestly, this was a tough situation. They were just staff, they didn’t actually know how to solve crimes, let alone outsmart Chen Shu.
“Director Zhang, we still have eight days. As long as we don’t officially end the case, the investigation team might realize they arrested the wrong person and take countermeasures.” Liu Hui broke the silence.
Zhang Bingbing added, “Yeah, Director, we really can’t think of any way to deal with Chen Shu. What are we supposed to investigate? There aren’t any leads. Even with our ‘omniscient’ perspective, we still don’t know where the body is.”
Liu Hui nodded. “Exactly. At this point, if someone can actually figure out a plan, I’d call them a genius!”
Ring, ring, ring. Just then, Zhang Sheng’s phone rang. He frowned and pulled it out, thinking it was the station director, Wu Hong, calling to nag him again, but to his surprise, it was Liang Wei.
He answered the call, putting it on speaker. “Hello, Mr. Liang Wei, how’s your stay at the hotel? The show isn’t over yet, so I’m afraid you’ll have to stay a little longer. Hope you don’t mind.”
A moment later, Liang Wei’s voice echoed through the meeting room, “Director Zhang, I just had a sudden stroke of genius, I thought of a brilliant way to capture Chen Shu!”
