Back at the director’s room. Zhang Sheng was having a massive headache!

“Chen Shu, it’s always Chen Shu.”

“If you were framed, just sit tight in the interrogation room. Why insist on proving your innocence?”

“And now look, Zeng Zhiwei has been arrested, and the show is about to end!”

This program was supposed to last for half a month. Ideally, it should air for at least ten days to attract more viewers and maximize engagement. So, when designing this episode, Zhang Sheng deliberately created two criminals, each with different tasks, to increase the difficulty for the investigation team and enrich the storyline.

But this was only the third day!

Forget about Liang Wei, he got caught immediately, which was frustrating. He was practically a wasted character. As for Zeng Zhiwei, yes, the way he killed Liang Wei caused an uproar.

He was praised endlessly by netizens!

But because of Chen Shu, who, in an effort to clear his name, found the suitcase. The investigation team was able to trace it back and arrest Zeng Zhiwei!

Of course, Chen Shu was truly innocent. He didn’t do anything but still got locked up out of nowhere. So, it was understandable why he was so eager to prove himself.

The result? The runtime of this episode was drastically cut down to just three days.

“Forget it, no use dwelling on it.”

Zhang Sheng took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

“Zeng Zhiwei’s crime skills are top-notch. Maybe he can still stall for a few more days.”

Squeak. The iron door opened, and Chen Shu opened his eyes.

“Chen Shu, you can go,” a police officer called out.

“Oh?” Chen Shu smiled. “What’s this? Did Officer Wang and the others find the real culprit?”

“Yes,” the officer replied. “So, you’re no longer a suspect. Go home.”

“Alright.” The handcuffs were unlocked, and Chen Shu shook his sore wrists.

Just as he was about to leave, rapid footsteps echoed from the other side of the investigation department. Wang Zheng and his team had returned.

“Chen Shu, you’re still here?” Wang Zheng spotted him and asked.

“Just about to leave,” Chen Shu replied.

“Hey, Chen Shu, sorry about earlier. We really did wrongfully accuse you,” Qin Min said with a smile.

Wang Zheng nodded. “Yeah, you were framed. Good thing you found the suitcase, cleared the misunderstanding, and helped us track down the real murderer.”

“Now they realize their mistake. Chen Shu really suffered in this episode.”

“Right? He was just minding his business, then suddenly got thrown into an interrogation room. Anyone would be frustrated.”

“As long as you understand. Next time, don’t come straight to me whenever someone gets killed,” Chen Shu grumbled, then frowned. “By the way, who’s the real culprit?”

“Your father,” Wang Zheng answered.

“What?” Chen Shu was stunned. “Him? Why? Why would he frame me? I’m his son! He killed Liang Wei for my sister, then used me as a scapegoat? How could he be so cruel…”

Qin Min patted Chen Shu’s shoulder, comforting him. “It’s okay, it’s okay. You mentioned before that your father was mentally unstable, especially regarding your sister. His obsession led him to this.”

“You should go check on your sister. When we arrested your father, he was about to attack her. Thankfully, we stopped him in time!”

Hearing this, Chen Shu’s expression darkened. “Alright, I’m going home now.”

With that, he turned and walked out of the station.

Outside, the rain was still falling. At first, he ran, but then he slowed down, letting the raindrops soak him as he strolled leisurely. The climax of this story was finally approaching!

Back in the investigation department, after watching Chen Shu leave, Qin Min turned to Su Haoran with a hint of dissatisfaction. “Hey, Haoran, we totally wronged Chen Shu in this case, and it’s thanks to him that we caught the real killer so quickly. You don’t have a single word of thanks for him?”

Su Haoran’s gaze was deep, and he shook his head. “I still think there’s something off about him.”

“Then tell me, what exactly is off?” Qin Min pressed.

“I can’t pinpoint it just yet,” Su Haoran admitted with some frustration. “But it feels like he’s been guiding us the whole time. Guiding us to believe he was framed, guiding us to the suitcase, guiding us on how to solve the case. As if… he planned everything.”

“You’re overthinking it,” Qin Min rolled his eyes.

Wang Zheng interrupted, “Come on, let’s interrogate Zeng Zhiwei!”

The camera focused on Zeng Zhiwei, broadcasting the scene live. Opposite him sat the trio of investigators.

As the background music slowly played, Wang Zheng began the interrogation. “Zeng Zhiwei, tell us everything. How did you kill Liang Wei?”

“I… I didn’t,” Zeng Zhiwei responded.

“Still in denial, huh? Do I have to spell it out for you before you admit it?”

“Fine, then listen closely!” Wang Zheng stood up and continued, “On April 26th, at 2:30 AM, you used Chen Shu’s phone to call Liang Wei. You made a deal with him, tricking him into thinking you had his son’s corpse. You hid inside a suitcase, and when he took you under the East City overpass, you struck and killed him!”

“After that, you used the suitcase’s buoyancy to float downriver to the western suburbs, where you sank it.”

At this point, Wang Zheng pulled out two photographs. One was of the suitcase fished out of the river. The other was of Zeng Zhiwei at the airport, dragging that very same suitcase.

The suitcases were an exact match!

“Don’t even try saying the killer just happened to have the exact same suitcase as you. And don’t claim that Chen Shu stole your suitcase, he wouldn’t fit inside. The only person who could hide in there and use Chen Shu’s phone at the same time is you!”

“Zeng Zhiwei, stop struggling.”

“The evidence is right here.”

Wang Zheng’s words rang in Zeng Zhiwei’s ears. He stared at the two photographs, his face turning ashen. He had followed the steps written in his journal to dispose of the suitcase. Sinking it into the river should have taken the police days to find.

Yet, in less than a day, they had already retrieved it!

Zeng Zhiwei was stunned by the investigators’ efficiency, and he knew there was no point in resisting anymore. The evidence was undeniable. He had lost. Under their relentless questioning, he had no defense left.

“I… I confess…”

“Whew~” Wang Zheng and Qin Min let out a sigh of relief. The case was finally wrapped up. The murderer had been caught! Now, only one question remains.

“Zeng Zhiwei, why did you kill Liang Wei?”

“Because…” At the mention of this, Zeng Zhiwei clenched his teeth, his face twisting in rage. “Liang Wei deserved to die! A few days ago, in his car, he, he did something to my daughter…”
