- I Asked You To Simulate A Crime, And You Pulled Off The Perfect Crime?
- Chapter 61 - What? Chen Shu Wants to Assist in Solving the Case?
Hearing this question, Zeng Zhiwei suddenly realized that the lie he had just told didn’t hold up at all. After all, Liang Wei was still on the run, and the police hadn’t caught him yet. His goal was to kill Su Xiaoxiao.
In that case, how could a father like him have the time to go fishing at the West Suburb River? It would’ve made more sense to just say he stayed up all night at the door to prevent Liang Wei from coming after them.
That lie would be much more convincing than fishing!
At that moment, Zeng Zhiwei panicked. He had read Su Xiaoxiao’s diary, which clearly detailed how to evade the city’s surveillance and kill Liang Wei. But there was nothing about how to lie and deal with police questioning!
Damn it!
After a brief moment of thought, Zeng Zhiwei gritted his teeth and said, “The reason I went fishing was that I had faith in the police. I believed Liang Wei wouldn’t dare come after us.”
Su Haoran replied, “Criminals usually have a certain mindset. When they know they have no way out and will eventually be caught, they’ll try to drag others down with them. You think he wouldn’t dare? In reality, he’s more desperate than anyone, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do.”
“You’re right. I was careless. But luckily, Liang Wei didn’t come to my house last night. Officer, don’t worry, I’ll protect my daughter well.”
Zeng Zhiwei answered, letting out a small sigh of relief. His answers during the interrogation were full of flaws, but in the end, the killing method described in the diary was flawless.
As long as the police couldn’t find evidence from it, they had no way to arrest him!
Besides, Chen Shu was still in the way, taking the fall. If the police wanted to get to him, they had to rule out Chen Shu as a suspect first. By the time they found actual evidence, the case would already be nearing its conclusion.
That would be enough.
“Officer Su,” Su Xiaoxiao, who had been silent, finally spoke. “What’s going on with my brother? Did you guys make a mistake? I saw him at home last night, there’s no way he had time to commit murder.”
Su Haoran asked, “Do you know who the victim is?”
Su Xiaoxiao shook her head. “No.”
“It was Liang Wei.”
Hearing this, Su Xiaoxiao gasped and covered her mouth in shock. Zeng Zhiwei also immediately put on an expression of surprise.
“In recent days, the only people who had conflicts with Liang Wei were your family. Plus, our investigation found that last night, it was Chen Shu who called Liang Wei first.”
“That makes him the prime suspect.”
“But don’t worry, we’ll investigate thoroughly.”
After saying that, Su Haoran got into the police car and drove away from the West Suburb.
“Hey, Captain Wang.” He called Wang Zheng.
“How’s it going? Did you find anything off with Zeng Zhiwei?” Wang Zheng asked.
“Yeah, something seems really off.”
“Come back and tell me.”
“Damn! The investigation team is starting to suspect Zeng Zhiwei!”
“I don’t get it. Why is Zeng Zhiwei acting so unprofessional during Su Haoran’s questioning? He’s sweating bullets as soon as he’s pressured like an idiot.”
“Yeah, he wasn’t like this when he killed Liang Wei.”
“Come on, it’s hard to make up a lie. What else could he say besides fishing? He had only a few hours, and his movement was limited to the West Suburb. If he claimed he went anywhere else, surveillance footage would prove him wrong.”
“Right! Even if they suspect him, so what? He doesn’t need to panic. Chen Shu is still taking the fall for him. Compared to him, Chen Shu’s suspicion is way harder to clear.”
“Ugh, speaking of Chen Shu, I just feel bad for him. He didn’t even do anything, and now he’s a suspect for no reason.”
At the City Police Department Criminal Investigation Office, as Su Haoran walked in, Wang Zheng and Qin Min stood up.
“So? What’s the situation?” Wang Zheng asked.
Su Haoran sat down and took a sip of tea. “Chen Shu didn’t lie. Zeng Zhiwei really wasn’t home last night. He claims he went fishing at the West Suburb River and accidentally fell in, which is why his clothes were wet.”
“I asked him several questions in a row, and he seemed nervous, clearly lying.”
“So you think Zeng Zhiwei might be the real killer? Just like Chen Shu said, his phone was stolen by Zeng Zhiwei to contact Liang Wei?” Qin Min frowned. “But why would Zeng Zhiwei want to kill Liang Wei?”
“I don’t know,” Su Haoran shook his head.
At that moment, Wang Zheng raised his hand, stopping their conversation.
“Don’t jump to conclusions. Don’t forget, Chen Shu is very cunning. He might have deliberately set this up to make us suspect Zeng Zhiwei so he can clear himself. Right now, he’s still our number one suspect.”
Su Haoran nodded.
That was true. Even though Zeng Zhiwei was acting strangely and even lied, the evidence they had still pointed to Chen Shu as the primary suspect. Of course, they needed to keep investigating Zeng Zhiwei.
But for now, Chen Shu remained the priority.
Bang! Bang!
Just then, knocking came from Interrogation Room No. 1.
“Captain Wang, Chen Shu wants to see you,” an officer called out.
“On my way.” Wang Zheng responded and walked into the interrogation room.
Inside the dimly lit room, Chen Shu looked exhausted. He sat on the chair, his expression filled with frustration, like someone who had been wronged but had nowhere to turn.
“What? Can’t hold out anymore? Ready to confess?” Wang Zheng asked.
“Officer Wang,” Chen Shu spoke softly. “Earlier, when you interrogated me, you said I used my phone to call Liang Wei, pretended to be his son’s corpse inside the suitcase to evade surveillance, and then killed him.”
“I admit, that’s a brilliant method. But I swear, I didn’t kill Liang Wei, I was framed!”
“Of course, I know no matter what I say, you won’t believe me. After all, the phone records prove it was my number that contacted Liang Wei.”
“But… How about this? Give me a chance, I’ll help you solve the case.”
“And in the process, clear my own name. What do you say?”
Wang Zheng was stunned for a moment. What was this guy up to? Help solve the case?
“Don’t reject me so quickly,” Chen Shu said before Wang Zheng could respond. “While you were explaining the murder process, I found a flaw in the theory. If you follow my method, you might just solve the case soon!”
