- Chapter 52 - Writing a Diary
At night, after Chen Shu comforted Su Xiaoxiao, he let her sleep in his bedroom. Once she fell asleep, he went to sleep on the sofa. Around midnight, he saw Zeng Zhiwei sneak into Su Xiaoxiao’s bedroom. He stayed inside for a while, but perhaps not seeing anyone, he left looking disappointed.
Maybe because he saw Chen Shu lying on the sofa, he didn’t take any further action and obediently went back to his room.
The next morning, after Chen Shu dropped Su Xiaoxiao off at school, he returned home. He happened to run into Zeng Zhiwei getting up. “Xiaoshu, nothing happened today, right?” He asked.
“No.”
“That’s good. I hope Liu Liang’s father gets arrested soon. That way, Su Xiaoxiao will be safe. Of course, you should be careful too. I’m worried that Liang Wei might get angry and come to our house,” Zeng Zhiwei warned.
From his perspective, he really wanted Liang Wei to be caught as soon as possible. Because he needed to protect Su Xiaoxiao, and this situation was making it difficult for him to focus on his second task.
Once Liang Wei was caught, he’d have fewer obstacles. And he could focus on carrying out his plans against Su Xiaoxiao.
“You stay home and keep watch. I need to go to Xiaoxiao’s school to make sure Liu Liang’s father doesn’t take advantage of any opportunity,” Zeng Zhiwei said as he put on his clothes and headed outside.
Suddenly, he stopped, turned around, and said, “Oh, from now on, I’ll be the one picking up and dropping off Xiaoxiao.” After saying that, he left.
Chen Shu remained expressionless. It was obvious the production team had intervened. They were worried he would interfere with the plot again. “Looks like I need to speed things up. If he’s the one taking Xiaoxiao to and from school, who knows what disgusting things he’ll try to do on the way,” Chen Shu thought to himself.
Meanwhile, the online audience was discussing.
“Oh wow, the production team even took away the only task Chen Shu had.”
“Yeah, that scene yesterday must’ve scared the director. They’re afraid Liang Wei might attack at the school gate again and Chen Shu will risk his life to stop him. So now they’re making him do nothing so he can just be a background character.”
“Letting Zeng Zhiwei pick up Xiaoxiao… Tsk tsk, looks like he’s going to get what he wants on the way.”
“Ughhh, I was hoping for a miracle where Chen Shu would stop Zeng Zhiwei, but now it looks like he won’t get the chance at all.”
“Alright, everyone, let’s just focus on Liang Wei and Zeng Zhiwei now. They’re the ones doing all the crimes. Chen Shu’s side is totally boring now.”
Chen Shu’s livestream lost more than half its viewers. Most of the audience had switched to watching Liang Wei and Zeng Zhiwei instead.
Honestly, Zhang Sheng’s strategy was smart. He used Chen Shu as bait to attract viewers, then once they got invested, he discarded him.
Now, Chen Shu was the only one left in the entire building. He walked into Su Xiaoxiao’s room. The room was small, with a bed, a desk, and a pink wardrobe. He sat down at the desk and pulled out a brand-new diary from the drawer.
“What’s he doing?”
“Eh, he must be bored. Probably looking for a book to pass the time.”
“Makes sense, but it looks like he’s holding a diary.”
“Oh, I get it! He’s writing down his frustrations. He’s stuck here doing nothing for more than half a month, so he’s keeping a diary out of boredom.”
“I’m out. Let’s go watch Liang Wei and Zeng Zhiwei instead.”
“Guys, hurry to Liang Wei’s stream! He spent the entire night hiding under a bridge to avoid the cops. It’s hilarious!”
Chen Shu opened the notebook and picked up a pen and started writing.
“April 25th, sunny.”
“Today, my brother took me to school. At the school gate…”
The camera in the room was positioned on the ceiling beam, allowing viewers to see both Chen Shu and his writing. But he leaned forward slightly. Now, the camera couldn’t capture what he was writing.
“Wait, from the little we saw earlier, he’s not writing his own diary. It looks like he’s writing one for Su Xiaoxiao.”
“That’s not surprising. Maybe it’s a school assignment, and Su Xiaoxiao didn’t want to do it, so she asked her brother to write it for her.”
“Yeah, back when teachers made us write diaries, I used to copy mine from the internet.”
“I had my little brother write mine. I’d pay him fifty cents per entry.”
“Fifty cents? That’s stingy!”
Chen Shu kept writing. He wrote a lot. His livestream became so dull that it dropped to just over a hundred thousand viewers. Only a few hundred people were still watching, and most of them had probably fallen asleep. Because all he was doing was sitting there, writing a diary for Su Xiaoxiao, while deliberately keeping the contents hidden.
Who would want to keep watching that?
In the director’s room, Zhang Sheng finally relaxed. “That annoying TV station manager might be arrogant, but he was right about one thing.”
“There are always more solutions than problems.”
“Now that Zeng Zhiwei is handling Xiaoxiao’s pick-ups and drop-offs, Chen Shu has no role left. He can’t interfere anymore.”
“Meanwhile, Zeng Zhiwei can speed up his crimes and push the show to its peak!”
“It would be perfect if he attacks Xiaoxiao again before Liang Wei gets caught. That would make the plot even better!”
“Two criminals, two storylines. The drama is packed now, right?”
Satisfied, Zhang Sheng exited Chen Shu’s livestream. Honestly, he was getting sleepy watching it. He switched to Liang Wei’s stream. There, he saw Liang Wei, covered in dirt, his hair a mess, clearly hiding from the police all night.
“Liang Wei, keep going! I’m rooting for you!”
That evening, Chen Shu stretched his neck. He flipped through the diary, checking everything carefully. After making sure there were no mistakes, he slipped the diary under Su Xiaoxiao’s pillow.
Everything was ready.
Now, he just had to wait for the prey to take the bait.
Soon, nighttime arrived, and Zeng Zhiwei returned home with Su Xiaoxiao.
“Brother,” Su Xiaoxiao ran straight to Chen Shu, keeping her distance from Zeng Zhiwei.
“What’s wrong?” Chen Shu asked.
“Nothing…” Su Xiaoxiao shook her head, then hesitated before saying, “I need help with my homework. Can I do it in your room?”
“Sure.”
Once they entered the bedroom and shut the door, Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t hold it in anymore. She began sobbing softly.
“Brother… I think Dad is acting really weird. On the way home, he tried to… Luckily, I ran fast enough, so he didn’t get the chance.”
